SD/storage paths altered after flashing PA2.99 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I just flashed PA2.99 and now my CWM shows all kinds of paths for when I select choose zip to flash. One of them is zero? When I tried to restore CWM could not find my backups. So once I flashed a different ROM I tried to restore a titanium back up and it could not find backups. I found the SD path that the system and apps are trying to use and moved the files there and now TB worked. So my question is how do I get all my storage/SD card paths correctly defined again.

This is due to the 4.2 update. A device can have multiple users, so it takes everything on the sdcard and puts it into folder 0, because that is the first user (you). Not sure how you can remedy the situation but I figured I'd at least try to explain what/why it happened.

Would that mean that all my apps need to update to the new paths or should I move all my data to the 0 folder?

Read the forum threads, people. There's a lot already on this.
If you've have read it first, you could avoid this.

I guess I could have tried to search it out before installing the ROM but I was unaware of the changes. If there is a way to get everything squared away that would be great.

Old SD card contents moved to /0 after PA2.99

Hello all,
Earlier while in stock android 4.2, ask my internal storages files like images, music were under sdcard/ directory.
After flashing PA2.99 B5 I can see that all those have been moved to a new directory under sdcard/0/.
As a result my TB folder went under this new /0/ dir and I has to redirect my TB to restore from the old location.
Similar is the case for Camera folder.
Any help why this happened and how to avoid this duplicate folder list creation.

OK.. I was using CWM at the point of flashing PA.
Can I now change the recovery to TWRP? Will that restore the original directory structure back ?

i am having the same problem. Went from stock 4.2 to cm10 4.1.2 or so.
I have the latest recovery installed...
If any1 knows how to fix this i would like to hear.
Hi,
Once I upgrade to the latest recovery, would the sdcard/0 content be merged and get sorted by itself or would I have to manually merge the contents?
Please advice!
Same here. The only backups I can find using root explorer are the ones prior to 4.2 how ever when I open up clockwork mod app it doesn't show the old backups just the new ones. I must have missed something along the way.

I have had the same problem i thought i did something wrong flashing the rom so i re falshed it and now it went from /0 to /0 /0 then i tried to manually move everything back to the root folder and merge all the folders but to my surprise the folders did get merged but not the contents and hence i lost all my camera photos !!
So as suggested please update the recovery before flashing so that you dont land up like me... and if you want to move the content back i suggest using a computer to do it rather than a file explorer !!
I wish there were step by step instructions for this one. There seems to be a lot of confusion.

Nandroid backup error! Please help :(

Hi guys.
I flashed over the new cm 10.1 and made a nandroid backup of my old cm10.0
but then when restoring i get the error that /system could not be restored.
I have searched over many threads on xda and androidcentral for people who experienced similiar problems but to no avail
Changing cwm recovery version doesn't seem to help at all.
Any one have any suggestions please help me out.. I'm pretty lost now spending the last 3 hours trying to recover it..
Thanks in advance!

Use version 5 working
When you upgrade to 4.2 all of the sdcard content is moved from /data/media to /data/media/0
So, the location of your clockworkmod backup is now /data/media/0/clockworkmod
If, you are using an older version of clockworkmod recovery, it will not automatically find the new backup location.
There are two solutions:
1. Flash the latest clockworkmod recovery
2. Manually copy content from /data/media/0 to /data/media using adb

I'm having the same problem. I made a nandroid with CM10.0 and then did a clean wipe, updated the rom to CM10.1, and I've been annoyed by certain things ever since, such as the new file structure.
So I've tried to restore my nandroid of CM10.0 only to find that CWM Recovery can't find it, so I managed to find the backup myself and move it to where CWM stores new nandroid backups, and then I get the same message: "Error while restoring /system!". I updated CWM to 6.0.2.3, the current version, and I still get the same error.
Does anyone know the best way to restore my phone to CM10.0 with my data in the nandroid backup?
MY situation is similar but not quite the same. i did the nandroid backup in clockworkmod. i flashed 10.1. i noticed it moved it to the "zero" folder. so i moved it back. i go back to restore, and here is where things are different. it says its not there. says it can't find a backup.
so i do a backup on 10.1. it creates the backup properly. i check in ES Explorer, both files are there. i go into recovery, it only finds the new one i just created. not the old one.
*sigh*
Since the move to 4.2.x all user data has been moved to /0/data instead of just being in /data
Now, backups shouldn't be any different UNLESS you had the one you want on your SD card before updating. CWM is looking on the original position of the backup but it's probably in the /0/ folder. Move it back to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/<date of backup> and it should find it when you go back to CWM

I tried placing it in the /sdcard/clockworkmod but then cwm wouldn't find the backup, it would just say backup not found. Only after moving it to /data/media then the backup can be seen, but it still gives the error that I'm currently having.
Thanks

I have the same problem.
CWM 6.0.2.3
saves new backups to data/media/clockworkmod but you cant see it when connected to a computer.
move the backup in the above directory to data/media/0/clockworkmod, this is the new sd card directory.
"Im guessing" that if you want to restore an old nandroid, you will have to adb push it to data/media/clockworkmod/backup.
"also guessing" you have to push the blobs folder as well or it wont restore.
you will see other 0 folders and emulated folders in the root directory,I tried to delete these but it deletes folders in the data/media/0 folder.
these other 0 and emulated folders do not seem to contain actual data files, but are more of a link to the actual data files, the new system type i beleive.

Online nandroid screwed me. Or did it? Help.

So I made a backup of my Aokp rom with a long times worth of tweaks and settings, with online nandroid. I flashed another rom and hated it, so I went to go restore my backup and it was nowhere to be found in CWM. Does anyone have any idea where it went? I couldn't find it in the backup folder and onandroid didn't make a folder in my SD

i stopped using cwm a while bac,k use twrp now much better imho. it should be in the internal sd card under cwm-backup-blobs.
Can you post the log file at /data/local/tmp/onandroid.log
Did you save the backup to the internal SD and accidentally wipe it while flashing the new ROM you didn't "care" for? Hate is such a strong word especially here..it comes down to user preference..no ROM.is a bad ROM really..its just what you want to get out of it.
One more reason for me to not use the online nandroids. Never liked the sound of if when it came out. Too many things can go wrong.

HELP!!! I think I deleted ALL my storage.

To make a long story short... while I was in the process of updating my phone from android 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 I was getting frustrated by the multiple /0 directories in recovery. On androidcentral i read that all you had to do was update your recovery and poof..back to normal. I was originally on CWM recovery but I kept reading that TWRP was better so I decided to try it out.. I downloaded TWRP, it didnt fix the multiple directories and I didnt like it so I went back to CWM.
While doing some more reasearch I read that all you had to do was move the contents of the duplicate /0 folder to the first one. I decided to give it a go and i MISERABLY failed. Instead of simply dragging and dropping I DELETED THE 2ND of the 3 /0 folders. Not realizing that the third /0 folder was where all my storage was.... So now I have 0 backups because I went from CWM to TWRP and I have none of my data. Is there ANY POSSIBLE way to fix this...:crying: :crying:
I don't believe so. Unless the erase failed or you made a backup in Kies.

Look in your sd folders. It might have saved some things, but I dunno if it would have kept much from being deleted.

Just move everything that is in your "0" folder to you sdcard root or you external SD card. Recovery can't see all of the folders for some reason. At least that's how I fixed it.

When moving between 4.1.x ( / storage / sdcard0 / ) and 4.2.x based roms
everything for 4.2.x is moved into your
/ storage / sdcard0 / emulated / 0 /
In order for you to get it back just get root explorer and move everything thats inside
' / storage / sdcard0 / emulated / 0 / '
to
' / storage / sdcard0 / '
if twrp STILL doesn't see the necessary nandroid backups then you'll need to flash to a 4.1.x based roms
and then redo the process.
Everything should be fine after that and all you need to do is reboot your phone twice. once for the phone to read
all the files in the root of the sdcard and then again going into custom recovery to find your twrp backup files.
You now and can restore from the nandroid you previously had.
twrp and cwm are both the same its just most recommend using others because of the extra features it has.
all in all, both CAN'T read ALL files but it should be able to read ALL folders.
I've been switching back and forth as well from PA, PAC-man, and LS and what i usually do is flash to 4.1.x
and then move the files, clearing cache and dalvik cache then rebooting and my phone hasn't ran into any
problems from doing that.
If you're staying on LS and trying to restore BACK to The Goodness JB rom, then move this folder
' / Emulated / 0 / TWRP / '
to
' / Storage / sdcard 0 / '
and twrp should be able to read the nandroid because the path to backup and restore is usually ' sdcard0 / TWRP '
or when using an external sd card
' / ExtsdCard / TWRP ' <- JB default location
' / sdcard1 / TWRP ' AOSP default location
Hopefully this info helps you.
Spark91
Your post should have it's own sticky. I've seen this issue repeatidly, and a lot of users end up giving up and staying with either TW or AOSP.
It's only a work around for now until custom recoveries can be fully optimized for 4.2.x based roms reading
from the ' / emulated / 0 / ' folder instead of the sdcards root.
Yeah, it's actually been one of the reasons I've been sticking with TW Roms. I remember that headache with the Gnex. It's terrifying when you don't know what's going on. Lol

Which version of TWRP are you running? I know that the older versions had a lot of trouble going between 4.2 and 4.1 Roms. They have done a good job of fixing this recently. I'm currently on TWRP 2.4.1.0 and it's been working fine for me. Try the newest TWRP file.
Also, as far as I'm aware, you WILL NOT be able to restore TWRP nandroids from CWM. They use different organization schemes when running Nandroids, so you can't switch between the two and restore backups willy-nilly..
My recommendation, update to the latest TWRP and see if you can find the files. Otherwise, go into your Root explorer and copy everything from the "0" folder to the base folder. It's tedious and time-consuming, but it should work.

Thanks everyone for your input. The verdict:
I was so impatient i decided to back up my current rom, locate where that folder was via es file explorer, moved my backup to that exact folder and ta daaa!! Only thing is my sd card is crazy now cause i tried so many things and moved so many things around (i have a sdcard 0 0 0 directory) and i put my whole "0" folder on my ext sd card which took up a lot of space. I took the 0 folder off and put it on my desktop. Im missing a few things but from what i can see, nothing too crucial thus far.
My future plans: I just unrooted to accept update ( running mb1 now, what is that all about). So after class i will be rerooting and throwing Goodness back on there. If i run into any problems, ill be back (terminator voice)
