I'm running Task AOKP, and it was reading the SD Card fine. I took it out and used a micro sd card adapter to upload some music onto it (didn't have cord on me) and when I plugged it back in it would say "Preparing SD Card" but my photos or music won't show up. I tried rebooting and mounting and unmounting but nothing worked. Any solutions? Searched for this but didn't find a fix other than "Try a different rom"
If you didn't "safely remove" the card from the computer it may have become corrupted. Are you able to see the contents if you put the card back into the computer?

Turns out wouldn't read anything for the first 7-10 minutes of it being in the phone. After that the stuff showed up. I don't know why it takes so long all of the sudden.

Sometime yesterday my epic stopped seeing the media on my sd card. The data is on the card, but my phone just won't read it. Any ideas?

Did you try popping it in and out? Happened to me once.
Sure did. I did it several times with no luck.
I have always been suspicious of the shutdown + battery pull technique (leaving it out for at least a solid minute) and yet oddly, it seems to work for things like this sometimes. It certainly can't hurt. And if you see the media scanning process begin on start up, you may be good. Maybe try that?
You mayb have to reformat your SD card. Backup your sd to a computer. Go to settings/sd card and phone settings/unmount sd than reformat. Than restore your backup. Reformatting usually fixes SD card issues.

Before you reformat, make sure you don't have a file with a name that has a "period" at the beginning like ".nomedia" at the root of your sd card. Folders are fine, but a .nomedia file stops that section from being scanned, so if its placed on the root of the sd, nothing gets scanned

So i have no idea how it happened but my sd card went crazy on me. I was just using my phone and then I clicked on an app that i had on my sd card and said that it couldnt be found, then it said that i had a blank sd card and that it needed to be formatted. I tried everything; pulling the battery, mounting, remounting, putting it in and out, tried to mount in recovery, tried to format in recovery...... NOTHING WORKED! So then i tried to plug it in on my computer (windows 7) and it wouldnt mount, so i couldnt format it.... Is there ANYTHING I can do!?!?!!?!? someone please help me cause it is a 16gb sd card and all i have left is a 2gb one... HA that wont work for me. Any help is appreciated!!

Pull sd out of phone and use a card reader to see if it can be read from the pc. If you can read it with the pc, copy all your files to the pc and then format the sd fat32. Once formated put the files back on the sd and put it back in the phone and see if it works then.

How old is it? Sometimes they just go out, especially with heavy use.

If ur phone has a recovery mount usn on phone recovery. Then scan the card with a data recovery tool. Its worked for me in the past

have you ever pulled the SD card out of a device before Unmounted it? Sounds like the the chip inside is dead. There are some places that you can take it to and they can pull the info off of it. its not cheap but they do exist. It all depends on if you really want the info off of it or not.
Have you tried "SD Card Tester" from the Market, Or H2testw 1.4 for the PC?

I have a 32gb sd card that i have had in the phone since i got it (in july), been working fine. all the sudden while i was on twitter a notification popped up saying the card had been removed. so i took the back off, removed it and put it back in, it wouldnt read the card. took it back out, turned the phone off, turned it back on and when it was back on i reinserted the card, it said card inserted, then never mounted it.
i took the card out and put it into a card reader on my computer and it worked great.
any ideas on what else i can try?
stock rom, rooted. if that helps.
anyone?
If it isn't detecting on your phone, try plugging it via usb->microsd adapter or sd. If windows doesn't detect then the card is probably dead.
Pull everything you want to keep off the card, reformat with yourcomputer, put it back in your phone. Should detect it then. Same thing happened to me on cwm6.0.1.4 touch.

What does it say in Settings -> Storage?
I had similar experience recently with 64gb card after attempting format it to FAT32 on computer. I wrecked the card and it become totally useless, but the symptoms where similar, except it would show me "empty card" message and attempts format it on phone would "succeed" yet would not mount, keep showing "empty card"...
If you have another card, you could test with it, if it works, then perhaps format on computer could fix it.

I wish people would read complete post before replying...
i dont have another card to test.
the card works great on my computer, just not in phone.
when its in the phone it just keeps popping up n the notifications saying "SD card is safe to remove" 5 min after i get rid of the notification, it comes back.
i got a message on my phone asking me if i want to reformat it (i had already copied everything from it to my comp for a back up) so i did that, but it didnt work.
I will try reformatting on my computer.
Try a factory reset and reformat the SD to FAT32 or just use the phone to do it.

My external sd cart (named extSdCard) on my sgs3 747 Lh9 dissapeared after backing up with rom manager and then pushing a file over from my computer to my phone. I tried putting it in another android phone and it called it a blank sd card and it wouldn't even open! Please help me figure out how to fix this, I have alot of important stuff on my external sd.
Seems like it got corrupted. You can try out some of the file recovery apps from the market but I've never used any so I can't vouch for them.

Don't format your sd card yet. This happened to me several times. It's the phone itself. The card doesn’t stay locked properly. You'll notice faster battery drain for a few days if it's like anything that happened to me. Back up your sd card if possible. Reinsert the card while the phone is off. I push the metal guard in a little so it stays in. Turn it back on. It should work. You can follow what I did at your own risk.

Similar thing happened to me a few days ago. Notification bar said that the card was damaged. I simply put it into my PC card reader and ran Mini Tool Partition wizard (Google the free download) and I did a scan and fix and I did lose some files from a recent folder transfer (which is what I think caused the problem) but the card file system was quickly repaired and no reformatting was necessary. In other words, the card did not have physical damage.
So, just realized that using a Micro SD with the Note 2 isn't as easy as just inserting one in. I'm reading that the phone has to be rooted and some other apps have to be downloaded in order for the SD card to be used with the phone. Is that the case? So, if the phone isn't rooted the SD card is useless?
Pictures and videos and any music you may download all go there keeping them off the internal memory makes the SD card very useful.

I believe you were given some very wrong information. You can use a micro SD card on a non rooted phone and no apps have to be downloaded to use one.

That's weird and confusing. I found this info on youtube. The other thing, why isn't my phone recognizing the SD card then? Well, it shows on top but I can't store anything on it as if the phone doesn't recognize it's in.
Maybe its upside down..lol
But you'll need to reboot after inserting it. The phone should say preparing SDCard. Or you can mount it in settings.
Open your camera app and set the storage to Memory Card then you can use your file manager to move your other files to the sdcard..
Also, if you use your browser to download things, you can set the default to the sdcard as well.

Try reformatting it on your computer in fat32.
