So i have no idea how it happened but my sd card went crazy on me. I was just using my phone and then I clicked on an app that i had on my sd card and said that it couldnt be found, then it said that i had a blank sd card and that it needed to be formatted. I tried everything; pulling the battery, mounting, remounting, putting it in and out, tried to mount in recovery, tried to format in recovery...... NOTHING WORKED! So then i tried to plug it in on my computer (windows 7) and it wouldnt mount, so i couldnt format it.... Is there ANYTHING I can do!?!?!!?!? someone please help me cause it is a 16gb sd card and all i have left is a 2gb one... HA that wont work for me. Any help is appreciated!!

Pull sd out of phone and use a card reader to see if it can be read from the pc. If you can read it with the pc, copy all your files to the pc and then format the sd fat32. Once formated put the files back on the sd and put it back in the phone and see if it works then.

have you ever pulled the SD card out of a device before Unmounted it? Sounds like the the chip inside is dead. There are some places that you can take it to and they can pull the info off of it. its not cheap but they do exist. It all depends on if you really want the info off of it or not.
Have you tried "SD Card Tester" from the Market, Or H2testw 1.4 for the PC?

Hey guys,
A friend of mine gave me his desire to root and flash a rom, while I was partitioning the SD card - everything went well (I used a windows app to create the partitions while the desire was plugged in in USB mode.
All went well until I disconnected it after the process was complete - now the phone nor PC detects the card.
What are my options?
Cheers
You're using a usb card reader on your pc or whilst in your phone (plugged in via cable)?

Yup. Try that
OK this is unusual, I managed to boot into recovery and mount the SD and sd-ext without any issue - I even booted into a custom rom I flashed from SD, but I still can't get the phone to detect it when booted.

Like rootSU said, try it with GParted in your pc and see if it can find it. If so, format it all and re-partition it.
OK I managed to get it fixed - seemed like an issue with the partition - I used recovery to mount USB storage (it worked) and I re partitioned it and it is now functioning correctly.
Cheers guys and thanks a lot everyone for their inputs !

I used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition ! very nifty app !
You're very lucky, its an awful app. I feel so strongly about it, I even put it in my signature (incase you missed it).
I bet its because you used minitool that it broke in the first place.

wow, that is rather fine print haha, I hadn't seen that there - I too have a feeling it broke cause of the app, but it did manage to fix it - hopefully I won't have to go through this again - if I have to I'll use gparted - Lesson Learnt !

hi. i've faced the same problem too with my galaxy mini.
but, when i mount usb storage it said that "unable to write to umslunfile (no such file or directory)" . and when i format sd card it said "error mounting sd card, skipping format".
my sd card cant detected by any phone or laptop. cant be formatted or mounted. what to do? please help me. there's so much important things there.
Hi there,
Ive been through the same issue just the other day and after read and try lots of things, i had to do something stupid but has worked for me... If you have a digital camera laying around, put your sd card and camera will do its thing..will prompt you asking if you want the sd to be formated... Thats it sd alive and hoping to receive runny rom in my case
hope this works for more people. Take care. Peace.

Is it formated fat32? I would use a pc to backup the files on the sd, and then format it fat32 with windows, and then copy the files back.

I have had to do this before and it normally fixes the problem. does your phone see other sd cards or do you only have the one?

One thing to also considered is that when using your SD Card through your computer make sure to 'safely eject' the device before unmounting your SD card, or it can lead to potential errors.
Glad to hear you got it fixed though.

me too. I would like to know how to recover data from it if anyone knows.
I've had this issue ever since upgrading to ICS. It will say sd unexpectedly removed, or corrupted sd card a few times per day. Tried a new sd card, and got a replacement phone from T-Mobile..still does it on every Rom I use. Quite annoying. But, I have found that taking out my battery and holding the power button for a few seconds to drain all the juice out seems to bring it back.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It means that the sd card is formatted to something that its not supported by the phone. I had this problem before, save all the data on your computer, make a folder and name it sd backup. then on the phone do a factory format only on the sdcard. or you can do it on recovery, it will format the sdcard too. then move all your stuff back from the computer and you're good to go
Dude I tried NTFS ext4 and fat32

it happened to me again while i was restoring apps after loading a different rom. this time, i put it in a card reader and ran chkdsk /r on it, and all my files reappeared. so i back it up this time. i am not sure why it happens so much.
i had this with one of my sdcard not long ago. i copied all the data from the sdcard to my computer and formatted the sdcard using another phone and put the data back on it and never had an issue since. i probably could have used the s2 to format while i was troubleshooting but it got fixed before i could try.

If you can save all your files to computer then let the computer format sd card to default fat32 not ntfs. Then move files back to sd card and it should fix the problem. I have done this method several times and it worked for me.
Hey guys, I did a quick search and couldn't find an answer. Basically, I'm having trouble with TWRP -- it won't mount/recognize my SD card at all. All the advice I've seen so far is to format the microSD card as fat32. Unfortunately, this fix doesn't work for me, as my SD is already formatted to fat32.
Are there any other alternate options?
Thanks!
EDIT: this is on TWRP 2.3.2.3
you probably need to update TWRP. If you rooted using the Galaxy Note 2 tool kit, it's a slightly older version. Here's the thread on TWRP, which you can find the latest version.
I think i'm on the newest version. I updated it a couple days ago using goo manager to 2.3.2.3, which seems to be the newest one
that would be the newest. I had that problem till I updated. My SDXC card is formatted in NTSF. Maybe, you need to reformat it in your phone.
yea, I'll try that. wish me luck

I'll check in a little bit phone is dead and cycling battery. But my 32gb showed up. Are you sure you're not changing it to show external storage
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
you need to go into advance menu, file manager. Then you need to look externalSDCard directory or similar name. That's your SDXC card. Don't use that external/internal option in one of the other menus.
This tends to be case in some of the file manager apps as well such as ES File Explorer.
ok, so, it seems it's not under external_sdcard, but under sdcard. So I guess to access the sdcard i have to go through that. Thanks for the help
Is there any way I can change the default backup location for TWRP to use the SD card? I can't backup to internal storage since I don't have enough space

Hidden in plain sight, really not that hard to see lol. If you can't take the 3 seconds to look where it says internal or external you shouldn't even bother trying to worry about it simple as that.

Tapping on "use external SD" just has it snap back to "use internal storage" and the error message "unable to mount '/external_sdcard'" comes up. So no, it's not that I'm blind.
well i flashed a kernel and didnt like it so i went into recovery and began flashing my nandroid backup. from there it was all going fine but stopped in the middle and said, oops something went wrong. after that i tried to get back into my sd to see if i had another backup. i then realized that my sd card was unmounted and i tried to mount it but to no avail. this is where i began to freak out because everything was wiped and the backup didnt work and i couldnt boot to anything except the bootloader and recovery. i finally got adb working and was able to flash cm9 directly to the phone so i have my phone working again YAY! so phone isnt brickd, maybe just sd card.
so is there anyway to try and recover my sd card to get my stuff back? i havent tried to format it yet because i want my pictures and all that :/ still need to get a card reader and try it in a pc

i havent had a chance to do either of those but i tried using the adb fastboot commands to makes the sd card recognized and mount again but it didnt work. gotta find another sd card or something or a card reader. any suggestions other than that?
Sorry but if the captain's thread didn't fix it than your card is most likely bad. I would try it in another device before trying to format it just in case. Maybe someone else will chime in with some other ideas.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Don't format it until you try it in a card reader. There's a chance the card is corrupted, but I've also had cards not read on my phone, at all, then pop it in a card reader, and Windows reads it without a problem
yeh i will definitely do that thanks. im really hoping it just glitched out and my phone isnt reading it and can save everything. no idea how it happened still. just restoring a nandroid backup and it said there was an error then no sd card :/
so got a card reader and popped it into the pc and it was all there now formatting the card to exFAT and going to see if it works
so its still saying there is no sd card... i know it works because it read on the computer fine. any ideas of why its not showing up in recovery or on my phone? and ideas how to fix?
I don't think the Evo can read exFAT. I'd go with FAT32.
