S-pen messed up? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Is the s pen supposed to write on the notepad thing when it is hovering over the screen? Also it will act as if it is touching the screen when it is not...is it supposed to?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium

And should the bar have a bump in it where on the back cover the speaker hole?

You're probably bumping into the "Air view" feature without knowing what it is. I recommend you read the manual to understand all of the awesome functionality, including the cool things that you can do with the S-Pen, that Samsung included with the Note 2. Failing that, you're likely to be posting basic questions like this to the annoyance of many. =)
To turn *off* the hover functionality, go to "Settings | S Pen" and swipe the "Air view" to "off".

I don't know if it should, but mine does, too. The middle bar there is slightly raised.

The above link might help you. I've heard of others with similar issues and I believe they fixed it by adjusting the sensitivity.

Edit: Said the same as bigbrotherbear, but he said it better and I let my response sit on my screen too long before submitting. =)

Thanks this has solved my problem

Neat Screen off feature

I stumbled across a cool little feature while the screen is off. Cover the light and proximity sensors for several seconds and the top half of the screen will emit an aqua blue aura that displays missed calls, messages, and battery. I know this feature is somewhat useless, just thought I'll do some digging after it accidentally popped up on me while handling the phone.
Edit: Cool, I didn't realize it was the Quick Glance feature. Thought I was going crazy when I couldn't figure out how to reproduce it.
Hmm I do not see that
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Doesn't happen here, either. Is this some kind of buried setting?
I could see this being useful if it could detect your phone is in your pocket, and when you pull it out, it would show that information.
It's in settings - motion - quick glance.
Then if you scroll down while still in motion to advanced settings there are more options for it in there.

Yeah I found it, very neat. I turned it on, I'll see if I continue to like it or if I find it annoying.I turned on a few more motion features. Why not try them?
The phone must also be laying flat (like on the table for example) otherwise it doesn't work.
Yeah it doesn't seem to be too reliable plus the info goes away too fast for me

thanks for this...no more pressing the power button when my phone is on the nightstand just to see the time or battery...etc...nice feature
Cool.

Does turning this on have and detrimental effects on battery life? Does it get activated accidentally in your pocket?
Love it. Wish it was faster, though. My screen turn on lag is not good

I noticed you can press the touch keys in those few seconds while the screen lights up and it will make the drip sound... little annoying in the middle of the night.

Don't think it would do much damage to the 3100mAh battery. I'm still getting over a day's use, at least 6 hours of screen on with the quick glance feature on. According to others, it only triggers if the phone has been laying on a flat surface. So I think it'll be just fine in our pockets.

Home button + s pen

For the longest time I thought my home button was broken! But it turns out if the s pen is govering the home button doesn't work. WHY?? Is it just me?
I have no idea what your question is... Can you re-explain this?
When the s pen is hovering/air view, the home button doesn't work.
Just tested it on my phone and it does the same thing. Home button does not work when the S-Pen is hovering. Not sure why but I'm guessing the phone thinks you are trying to do something on that particular page because the S-Pen is so close that it won't let you go "Home."
I think it's a safeguard that if your using the pen, it doesn't allow any touches, whether it be clicking something on the screen or using the home/capacitive buttons. Could be wrong, some things might still be usable, but that's how they explained it in one of the reviews(well they didn't mention the home button, but said you can't touch the screen while the pen is also active on the screen-so I assume it's the same for other selections)

[Q] S-pen cursor disappears in s-memo.

Friends,
I use the Galaxy Note 2 to draw, when I draw the s-memo (s-note) in S-pen cursor disappears and this complicates the accuracy of the drawing.
Anyone know how to turn the cursor display when designing the s-memo?
Thank you.
I don't think there is a way... just draw on the screen like it was paper, you don't have a cursor on paper do you?

My s pen seems to be writing/selecting by itself without me actually pressing the button or touching the screen. Is this normal for you guys or do I have me a faulty s pen?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
The Galaxy Note 1, you had the option to display the cursor's S-Pen when he was sketching the S-memo.
The S-Pen has a small gap where the pen tip touches to the sketched line in the S-memo, it hinders much when making a design that requires precision.
Radrian92, that sometimes happens to me.
You may be able to adjust your S-pen; I had a similar problem and adjusted mine to solve it. Here are the instructions I found for the adjustment.

REQUEST FOR INFO: S-PEN Hover Clicking?

Hi all. My programmer friend and I were wondering about editing the code to allow mouse style clicking while the S-Pen is hovering to open apps and links etc. I know that this is possible physically because when I boot into recovery and hoover and click it works. I just want it to work on my rom in either a apk or system mod.
I have viewed the S-Pen sdk http://developer.samsung.com/android/technical-docs/S-Pen-SDK-2-2-5-Tutorial
but was wondering if something already exists or can be modified such as in the build.prop etc.
Any info or app suggestions / mods would be great!
Thanks in advance! I think with would be a great feature while using the hoover scroll function in a web browser then by able to click while hoovering.
I found an APK and explored it in .zip viewer called spengesturepad.apk in system/app
I wonder if this is the apk that needs modifying.

This would be nice.. My question is when you hover to avoid accidently clicking something do you mean tapping the button on the side of the pen as well to get it to click while hovering.. Or is that even possible

Yea exactly. Using the button to click and open the item you are hoovering over!

Like the idea especially since my Damn pen always seems to be selecting items I don't want whenever I hover over things. Btw do any of you get their s pen tip stuck? I ask because I would write some letters and as I lift the pen to continue writing it still draws a freaken line to where I finally touch. So freaken annoying :banghead: any ideas on a fix? TIA

Unfortunately I don't have a link but yes I read some where that under the button on the s pen there is a screw/knob you can twist to make it more or less sensitive. Seems yours is to sensitive. Hopefully you didn't get a defective pen or worse device. Good luck bro.
Ps top answer your question it hasn't happened to me THAT bad before. Maybe once or twice a week if that I'll hover over some thing and it'll select it or scroll

i posted a how-to for adjusting the galaxy note 10.1's pen. it's the same for he gn2.

I don't know if there is a setting to change this behavior, but spen driver is firing events for button click and hover, so it is possible to write root application that would do this. Obviously incorporating it in custom rom would be even easier.

I would too, and Virus is a beast of a dev!!! He doesn't have a Sprint Note 2 though, so I'm not sure if he's even messing with this anymore or not. I'll ask him in the morning, as we are both on the East Coast and it's kinda late now.

Having some problem with s-pen and screen capture tracing...

Hi,
Have noticed when trying to trace an image with my s-pen on the screen with the button pushed that sometimes it just doesn't seem to "take" and capture the image even though I have traced all the way around to the little beginning circle. This seems to happen mostly if I am tracing a smaller image.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just a bug? If it is a bug is there a way to fix it?
SECONDARY QUESTION:
It seems the only way to crop out a square image is to do a screen capture by pushing down the s-pen button and pressing it to the screen then using the crop tool. However, it would be nice to be able to actually draw a perfect crop square in the same way we do a trace capture. Is there any combination of buttons that does that?
I have noticed on my Note 10.1 tablet that I can trace an image in one multiview screen then just drag the into s-notes in the other pane and it pastes. However, with the GN2 this "drag and drop" doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong?
Last thing. Have noticed that on my Note 10.1 I can do a screen capture of the active multiview pane; however, with the GN2 it seems to capture both multiview panes then squishes the entire capture into one pane. Again, am I doing this wrong or is that a bug?
Thanks!
for perfect squares, well and now everything I have been lasso'ing a larger area and then using the photo editor app to crop them down ...for the reason that I noticed the longer I take to get a clean lasso the less chance I have of it working.
Interesting find on the screenshot deal. If I take a screen shot by hand swipe it is normal. Taking it with the pen results in squished screen.
As for the drag and drop I swear it worked out of the box...then the ljc update changed it but I could be wrong. I just know it does not work that way anymore. Similarly I recal draggingbthe lasso'd image to say messaging in the icons at bottom of screen ...now after the update I just hit messaging

I guess the point is that there are a number of things which work as they should on the Note 10.1 that don't seem to work that way on the GN2. It's not a screen real estate issue so I'm not sure what the problem is.
Just seems kind of buggy to me, especially the tracing part.
My Note 10.1 came with a specially designed version of photoshop but I'm not seeing that on my GN2. Am I missing it? I guess I just expected these to be close to the same except smaller. Maybe not.
For instance on the Note 10.1 in multiview each pane gets its own Min, Max and Close buttons but not here. Odd.
