Is Galaxy Nexus with stock 4.2 missing the Emoji keyboard? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I know there is a dictionary for this, but there's a Emoji keyboard out on the web to, but I can't find it on the phone?

I installed it in add on dictionaries but it is not shown under keyboards so I can't select it.
On Nexus 7 it appeared under keyboards when i installed it under dictionaries. On Nexus 4 its also there.

But if you check in /system/app there are no .apk that is called whats the apk in the .zip is called.
That's why I think there are no emoji keyboard on 4.2 for GNex, but only the emoji dictionary. You can typ "star" in english (not "swype") and there will be a choice to pick a star.
Strange that there is no extra keyboard for the GNex.

It's definitely there, I was able to enable it in "language and input" settings. Granted this is a custom rom, but it was meant to be stock.

It's not on my stock Factory Images "takju" for Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 (JOP40C) from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
EDIT: What ROM are you using? Check if there is the missing apk...
/Söder

I'm using MMuzzy's stock ROM compiled from AOSP for the toroplus, which may explain why it's there. I pulled 2 apks from system/app and one lib with a similar name from system/lib, so you can try pushing these there, and setting permissions.
http://db.tt/AyLp4ej1
Edit: the three files are in the .zip, just extract them, it's not flashable.

No on the HDR, I believe that's a hardware issue (or a laziness one). I'm not sure why the ota would not have it and it be in an AOSP compiled ROM.

Well, I pushed your files now, (the same that has been out in .zip before the release of 4.2) and it workes. Accually nothing usefull. =)
Does someone know if OTA's work if you have done changes to /system/ , or if that's being checked?

[THEME] Gingerbread with Keyboard /new 2.2.6 Market for CM 6.1.1 Stable

Here my new Theme for CyanogenMod 6.1.1 Stable!
Many users like the new Gingerbread style so I created
this little Theme.
For notification color,clock color etc.use attached "xml.file".
Extract from zip file and copy to /sdcard/CMTheme) then sellect in CMSettings.
If "CMTheme" folder not exist, make a folder on your sdcard called CMTheme
put the "xml file" it in there.
GO to setting>CMSetting>User Interface>Tweak extras>Select a Theme.
Version 1.0
- Initial Release
Version v2.0
- Added 2 new Nexus S LiveWallpapers, but Microbes have little bugs
- Launcher support only Portrait mode
- Many backgrounds added
- Modified some images
Version v2.1
- Music apk themed
- Now with themed ADW Launcher and landscape support
- New Android market 2.2.6 (not 2.2.7) but better then nothing
I have no problems at the moment.
Hope you like it.
Enjoy

P.S.You can find a Gingerbread keyboard here,too.
Maybe it works:

CM Stock Dialer + Smart Dialing

I found this somewhere and finally pushed it. It is the standard ICS Dialer, but now with Smart Dialing FINALLY!
I used Root Explorer.
Rename /system/app/Contacts.apk to Contacts.apk.bak
Copy new Contacts.apk to /system/app
Set Permissions the same as the old Contacts.apk (rw-r--r--) [screenshot below]
Reboot
Requires Root (and RootzBoat 4.0.3 rom?)
Something tells me it was the custom CM9 dialer. So if this is an issue I can remove the links.

Did you set permissions correctly? Should look like this

I was using this on an RootzBoat AOSP 4.0.3 rom, maybe that's a reason. Have you guys tried just installing it? I also did it on a clean install.
Try:
Clearing cache from Settings>Applications
Fix Permissions
Installing it
etc
I can't see an AOSP rom being all that different from stock.
Off Topic: I think our phones can take screen shots out of the box? I think I've accidentally took a few but never figured out the correct combination of button presses. I'd like to take a few screen shots of the dialer in action. Hopefully I'm not completely out of my mind and the Nexus CAN take screenshots natively.

Thanks, updated first post. Great indirect way to finally figure out what I was really after!
This is an AWESOME feature. MUCH needed. Plus saves me from downloading an alternative. I hope Google implements this into all of their stock dialer builds.
If this does require a custom rom, then I'd say its work it. I'm using RootzBoat which is pretty much pure stock. Doesn't feel any different then when I was on stock 4.0.2.
Worked first time on AOKP. Very nice, thank you for sharing.
Does not work on ARHD 2.1.1, possible because it's 4.02. Moved and set permissions correctly. Oddly enough, if I try to straight up install it it says "there is a problem parsing this package."

[BOOTANIMATION] New Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean Boot Animations

The app does not work on jelly bean.... as far as my tests have gone... use at your own risk... or just download it to make me feel my app is popular :3
Full functioning Jelly Bean animation from Galaxy Nexus and the original animation that was on the Nexus 7 when it was given at IO, before the OTA a couple hours after.
The second is my personal favorite. You can grab these animations on my app called Aniboot. It has many other animations, and is very easy to use. Try it out and see what you think.
Here's the link to the app.

pull the stock backup in the AniBoot folder on the external storage partition "/sdcard", then rename it bootanimation.zip. Finally, push it to /system/media and /data/local.
I mentioned it brakes after i found the error, but i'm still trying to fix it. So far, no luck. I don't know if it just has to do with JB or what, because i'm using the same method and it just doesn't cut it.

Figured it out. My boot still didn't work after using the method above but I used "Root Explorer" to check the permissions on the files pushed when your app edits the boot screen. They are set to rw-------. Changed it to: rw-rw-r-- and I now have a custom boot animation!
Apply this in your app and I bet it will fix it! :highfive:

Bumping to say I pushed the downloaded JB I/O animation into the right folder via root explorer and it worked like a charm.
BTW thanks for making the app!
Also the 1280x800 animations should really be 800x1200 for nexus 7 support as it boots the animation in portrait. Not sure if that is possible with what you are using for raw images.

What rom are you running (I'm assuming you're installing this on a nexus 7)?. I'm not sure if it would make a difference (but who knows). I have this bootanimation on my N7 with AOKP 4.2.2, My Xyboard with stock rooted ICS 4.04, and my Razr Maxx HD on stock rooted JB 4.1.1.
I'll do some other testing. I have a few friends with N7's.

Isn't working for me, even though I think it is user error.
Using root explorer I changed the permissions to rw-rw-r. I didn't see a folder named local inside my data folder.
I'm sure I didn't put it in the right place. Also, do we need to install the apk, or just copy/paste/rename/permissions of the zip?

Are you looking in the /data folder in the root of your device?
It's different than /sdcard/data.
So if your rooted, you can use rootexplorer to navigate to the topmost folder using the "parent folder" option at the top of every file/folder directory list until you cant navigate upwards any more. That /data should have a /local folder in it.
The apk is just a download and install process. No copying/pasting/permission changing necessary.
Yeah I tried the apk and all it did was make my auto-brightness go crazy. Dim->bright->dim every few seconds. Had to uninstall with titanium backup and everything is normal again.

This archive is meant to be flashed via CWM or TWRP recovery. Not the stock one. I guess you can search the web for genuine .apk and try installing it as a usual app.

Strange. Probably we have different flashing archives, cause I didn't delete AOSP keyboard. After the L keyboard flashing I simply chose it as a default disabling AOSP one in settings.
