[Q] Tethered device gets faster down/up than I do? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

My friend last night had hit his data limit. So I turned on tethering for him so he could hook up his iPhone phone to my phone's data. Just out of curiosity, I had him do a speedtest.
He managed 19 down and 17 up.
I only got 6 down and 5 up.
Over several tests, he consistently managed much higher down/up than I did.
He would go, then I would go. So we weren't both testing at the same time.
After I disabled tethering, my speeds didn't really improve.
WTF?!?

[Q] Wi-fi Speeds Way Down

I am fully rooted running netarchy's 2.2 ROM with the 3.7.8b kernel. My speed tests using my home wireless connection are usually 12 Mbs download and 1.5 Mbs upload with my N access point and round 8 and 1.5 with my G router (20 down 1.5 up cable connection). Today, I am getting roughly half the download speed and the same upload speed from both the router and access point. I do not have a computer with wireless to test with, however my desktop is getting 16+ and 1.5.
I am having no other problems with the phone and my signal strength is great. The only other changes I have made recently are updating both radios, 2.15.00.07.28 and wimax 26023.
I have tried older versions on the kernel with no change in my wireless speeds, what else should I be trying?
Has anyone else experienced this? And yes, I have rebooted all of my routers/cable modem, access point and phone.
Thanks for any help
An update, I watched the speedtest closely this time and my speeds starts really high (close to 10) and then quickly throttles back. Hmmm.....
Is wireless N active now since the 2.2 update? My speeds are the same since 2.2, roughly 18 dl and 5 up, but I have noticed the range is better thats why I'm asking if N if active, or did they just give us a better driver. I have not tried to isolate just an N broadcast. But I'm thinking my speeds should have increased if I was connecting with N.....

Can Sprint blackball your bandwidth?

I have no idea what is going on, but my 3G speeds have gone to ****. I've tried everything to get them back... I just don't get it...
This is with 2 'coverage' bars on CM6...

How long ago were you getting good speeds? Because it could just be the Sprint network, because they have gotten a lot of new people because of the new phones to come out, and that could be the cause.
I've had my phone since Aug 11th... So almost a month and a half... My speeds have just got worse and worse as time has gone on... Maybe the network is overloaded, I don't know... but man it sucks.

Try rebooting. I was having that same issue some weeks back. I was hitting > 14.4kbps on 3g and 3.2mbps on 4g. I did a quick restart and 3g shot back up to 600ish kbps.

sometimes this is the case, not just the evo, but having to reboot the wife's hero also.
I notice that at night my speeds drop dramatically. I can play youtube vids in the day time without any stutter but once it's about 8pm the numbers on speedtest drop and I have constant buffering. I don't know if it's because everyone is home and bandwith is being used a little heavier or if sprint automatically drops the bandwith at night.
I've tried rebooting multiple times with no luck... looks like I'm either being capped or in high usage area...

your ping is pretty terrible too - did you try other servers?
My 3G got really bad right before the unofficial launch of 4G here. Not quite as low as what you show, but BAD compared to what it was.

Welcome to Sprint, mine is exactly the same. I can rarely get over 500 kbps at night but can usually get 1 mbps or better during the day. The weird one is that at night my upload speed is almost always higher then my download speeds.
Night before last I noticed my browser was unusually sluggish so I did a speed test. Download was 39 kbps upload was 150 kbps, did a test the following morning and it was 1101 kbps down and 550 kbps up.
This is in a very rural area, so I seriously doubt if the tower I am connecting to is getting overwhelmed with bandwidth usage.

Haha, I can hope my man...
Wow, yeah that's pretty bad. I am getting 960Kbps (1040 max) down and 88Kbps (158 max) up speed on one bar (-89dBm)... ran Speedtest right now to check what I'm getting.
Stuff might very well be congested over there, although one way to for-sure rule out bandwidth capping is are you doing anything to cause them to cap your bandwidth?
I'm consistently hitting right around 400 kbs down and 800 kbs up, the only time I hit higher is when I'm roaming then it's 1 mb down.

Not that I can think of.. I use my phone a lot, but it's not like I'm browsing torrents or anything... Most of my bandwidth is probably youtube and ROM downloads...
Does the rom you run have any affect on 3G speeds? I've been running CM6 forever though basically...

I'm on CM6, the 9/19 nightly I think (or 9/20 I can't remember). I don't think it has any affect on 3G speeds. I flashed the latest radio and PRI if that makes a difference (didn't notice one).

<Q> Data Speeds/Reliability?

Hi!So just some background info, I have had the Samsung Fascinate prior to this phone and had 2 replacemnts through verizon. I was having data issues and the phones had hardware issues so they gave me the Droid Incredible 2.
Anyways, I have been getting extremely slow verizon downloads lately. Sometimes apps will take 10 minutes or even more to download when I remember that they used to download in about 5 seconds one or two months ago. I am NOT a heavy data user (as in i'm not in the top 5%), and I have the Unlimited data. Browsing speeds, market download speeds and everything is slow and getting really frustrating. (download speeds around 10-200 kbps!!) [tested with speedtest.net]
Does anyone have any ideas? I have called verizon and they said their was some kind of market (non android) block on my phone since last march, but disabling that didn't really change much.
Let me know if anyone has experienced similar issues within the past month or two or has a fix! Thankss
(i was going to try to root and flash roms/new radio to see if that would help? but idk :/)
My apps seem to download about the same on this phone, as my Original Dinc.
I flashed the 722 radio and that helped me alot.
My speeds were slow also. Everywhere I went.
Now when I am at home they are halfway decent (700-1200 kbps) (I am normally on wifi anyways)
And at work they are better. (1700-2200 kbps)

Slow Network Speeds

I just got my 5t, and as I was transferring files over wifi I noticed the transfer speeds were abominable. I chalked it up to a temporary bottleneck, but unfortunately things have stayed that way. I'm running stock with no modifications.
For reference, I ran a speed test on the 5t and on my op3 within 60 seconds of each other on my generally stable fiber connection. The result was:
Oneplus 3: 8ms ping, 32mbps down/62mbps up.
Oneplus 5t: 19ms ping, 0.63mbps down/9mbps up.
I've run these tests multiple times and the results are pretty consistent. Is anyone else having similar issues? It's so bad that I'm going back to my op3 until I can get it fixed or return the phone. It's worthless as is.
Factory reset the phone and check again.
Also have this problem... On my fresh 5t getting 0.65Mbps down constantly compared to my moto x 100Mbps down on home network. Tried factory resetting already still getting the same 'capped' speed of 0.6ish. But for some reason the upload is unaffected.
Edit1: Turning on airplane mode increases downloads to about 30mbps, taking out the sim card with airplane mode off still gets less than 1mbps.
Edit2: I think i may of fixed it... changing my routers (c6300) output power from 100%->75% seemed to allow my 5t to get higher speeds about 40-50 mbps. Changing to 50% power gets speeds to about 66mbps. Still not max speeds but at least I can use it now. Changing to 5ghz also allows 5t to get max speeds 100mbps-ish down.

Pixel WiFi issues, anyone else?

Like the title states, since opening the package I've had very bad wifi performance. If I do a speedtest my ping is 3ms and 300 download, but i'll constantly get no connectivity with the wifi on. Pixel 2xl beside me works fine. If I shut off wifi, everything works. I've even done a factory reset, same problem. Anyone else have this issue?
I concur.
The distance on it is very crappy

Except I have the Google mesh kit and literally inches away from it LOL
Your complaining about 3ms ping and 300mbps download...lol cmon
I'm about 15 feet away from the router and getting poor to no signal strength on 5 Ghz. My S5 and Nexus 10 are rock solid. This might be a deal breaker.
Edit: I have a turris omnia router with horsehair plaster walls. Will enable 2.5 and see if it is better.
I haven't seen any issues with mine. I actually have a stronger Wi-Fi signal with it throughout my house than I did on the 2XL.
I'm having WiFi issues too...
I started noticing them right away but i used the cable to copy my Pixel 2 XL files to the Pixel 3 and figured it was the background processes going nuts and causing problems. But after about 15 hours it was still going (i was up all night sick, probably because i purchased a phone with a notch). So I figured i'd try again when it was done.
So this morning i went back into the living room after it finished and the problems continued. I have a router mounted to the wall up in the corner by the ceiling. Its within 10 feet of me, and still my wifi works intermittently. I'll try to load google.com to do a search and it fails, i'll reload 4-8 times before it finally loads, i'll enter my search and hit the search button, and it'll fail. So i'll hti the reload button another 4 to 8 times before it loads.
Using YouTube, the first two thumbnails load, but nothing else. Something is wrong with it! Everything that uses data is doing this, and when WiFi is off, the issues are all gone.
Yep! Exact same problem. I had to reserve an IP for my phone just to get it to connect at home. Every now and then I have to toggle off and on the WiFi cause it'll stop working. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Also glad someone tried resetting too, I almost did myself. Hopefully it's software and Google fixes it. If it's hardware I'll be pissed.

On my Pixel 3 XL, my speeds are fine. It's just that I can't connect/stay connected. This has been happening since I took it out of the box 3 days ago.
From my post on this issue in the Pixel Community over in the Google Product Forums:
"Just recently, I came back home and the phone refused to connect to the wireless network (no wifi "radar" icon in the notification area at all). I sat next to the wireless access point and opened up Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi and it said disconnected. Going into the Wi-Fi area to have it search for networks it would find none, then find some, find all, find all but my own access point, etc. (my old Nexus 6P doesn't have that problem).
When that settled down, I chose my access points and looked at the details. Both my 2.4 GHz band and my 5 GHz band were full strength and saying "Excellent" in the Settings next to Signal Strength. The 2.4 GHz band had a Link speed of 144 Mbps and the 5 GHz band 866 Mbps, about the same as what I see with my 6P. I spent 10 minutes tapping on one or the other trying to get connected. Sometimes they would, but then drop. Other times, they wouldn't. Then the wifi scan dance would begin again. Again, nothing similar on the 6P. I finally got stable connections (I ended up having to reboot the phone to do that) and ran speed tests from DSLReports.
On the Pixel 3 XL, I got my Cox rated speed of 100 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up for 5 GHz and 66/11 for 2.4 GHz. On my 6P, I got 79/10 for 5 GHz and 69/10 for 2.4 GHz. So, if I can actually connect, I'm not seeing slow Wi-Fi speeds. I'm seeing darn good ones. It's just that I can't get the thing to connect. And when it does, it doesn't want to stay connected."
My Galaxy S5 outperforms both Pixel 3 and XL on 2.4 and 5. They can barely stay connected in the room adjacent to the router. This is sad. Will likely return both and try the 6T.
