Currently there are known issues between the Samsung and Windows. Refer to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837434
You can try the solution there. Works for most people. For me it doesn't and I'm just waiting for Samsung and Windows to sort things out.

Hi, I'm new to the galaxy nexus. I used to use the rezound.
So far everything seems fine except usb connect to the computer.
The usb works fine when charging, but when I connect to my computer for storage or unlocking, I get "USB device not recognized" problem.
The samsung driver has been installed and debugging has been turned on as well.
Also, when I was using the rezound, there were no usb problems.
Am I missing something or having a defect device?
Guess you are on windows xp?

So this : (took from jubakuba thread)
Get the drivers:
Uninstall any previously attempted drivers if they don't work and move to the next.
Samsung's website has a download here under "Manuals & Downloads > Software."
Option Two: Try this one as well.
PDAnet's drivers may work if the above options don't. Simply install PDAnet (after uninstalling any previous attempted driver installations) to get the drivers.
While that is downloading, on your Galaxy Nexus: turn USB debugging on.
This can be found in Settings>Developer Options>USB Debugging

Thank you, I'll try the third option
Whoops nevermind.

I tried this on Q & A a few weeks ago but i still haven't had any luck. So i'm hoping so Mac users will chime in and help on a possible solution to this problem.
Here's what i can tell you so far about the Galaxy SIII (at&t) & AFT...
Android File transfer works with Stock TW 4.0.4, by simply selecting PTP it opens AFT automatically on snow leopard/lion/mountain lion.
On CM9 AFT works on snow leopard but doesn't work at all on lion/mountain lion. The SD will mount on windows
On CM10 AFT works on snow leopard but doesn't work at all on lion/mountain lion. The SD will mount on windows
I might also add that with my Galaxy Nexus AFT works on Stock 4.0.4 and Stock 4.1.1 as well as CM9 and CM10
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
A friend answered the question for me. its apparently a Samsung kernel change that's causing the problem.
If I were to guess I would say Apple is not bending over backwards to help Samsung debug anything lol
Until then I'll wait....

And me too ....
I use WiFi File Transfer Pro. AFT doesn't work on my mac any longer.
FYI, it's also AFT that is a crappy piece of software. It has never worked properly. Use ADB or one of the many "wifi transfer" apps in the market. Or look into using FTP which I use on a daily basis, very nice and easy to use and is quite fast compared to other third party solutions.

Okay i'm trying to root my phone using the galaxy note tool kit and your phone has to be in debugging mode. Well when i turn debugging mode on nothing happens. it has attempted to install the drivers like 3 times (it doesn't try every time i plug my phone in only once in awhile) but all 3 times it has failed to install the android_samsung driver. can anyone help?
I have heard people say to install pdanet on your pc. The Samsung drivers in it seem to work on our Notes.

I have ive tried 3 different cables
Maybe try a different pc then? I know I had a hell of a time using Revolutionary to root my Evo 3D. It just would not work on my HP Lappy running windows 7 64bit. I had to use my wife's little Acer Netbook. Worked like a charm. so try to use another pc in the mean time.

Hello, I've been trying to get my phone to connect to my mac via USB but have had no luck. I've tried Kies, AFT but nothing has worked out. I'm just trying to transfer my music and bluetooth takes way to long. I've searched other threads but it seams like no one has come up with a solution to the problem, is there anyone who can point me in the right direction or have a simple fix? I'm running CM Nightly 10.1 20130222 and my Mac is running Lion 10.7.5. Any help will be appreciated, thank you.

Is that the factory cable included with the phone? Different (even rear) usb ports? Sorry for the small questions. Starting at the bottom

yes it is the factory cable, I have tried other cables as well. Tried both of my USB ports. Is there any other program other than AFT and Kies that I could use? Im using Wifi File Explorer Pro right now to transfer files but I would like the speed of USB if I could get it

Check your drivers in windows. Also make sure you are NOT using fast charge.
I bet it is the cable. I had the same issue. Go to device manager and enable "show hidden devices". Then delete every driver that has something to do with your phone. Then plug your phone in with a diffrent cable. Worked for me. Also you can try to enable or disable usb debugging.

I had a similar issue. I couldn't get the phone to be recognized on my work PC (using a cable that has always worked) or at home on Mac using Android file transfer and a different cable. What I think happened in my case is that I was connected to my PC in MTP mode then I unselected MTP so that neither MTP nor PTP was selected. That is what was aiming for (I only wanted to charge not connect). Though then when I went to plug in later as described above nothing came up. I looked all over for the USB settings to change it back to MTP but couldn't find it. I am sure it is there somewhere.
Anyways, after rebooting several times with no luck, I went nuclear (factory reset) which did the trick. I am running Shiny 4.4.2 and have had a pretty buggy go of it. I am likely switching ROMs, not that this necessarily has anything to do with it.
Good luck!
