LG Home Launcher removal - LG Optimus G (International)

Has anyone removed the home Launcher files without any issues... I'm wanting to remove and just use apex in the the system folder
got LGOG?

ive installed Nova launcher without issue not sure about removing the stock one think it might be built into the rom

I just frozed it with the titanium backup.
Works good. Also did it for lg keyboard and other trashy stuff.
No problems.

Frozen HOME launcher and stock keyboard here too. No problems.

Just back up the stock launcher with titanium in case you have issues. I use Nova Launcher on my GNex and always uninstall the stock launcher without issue.

Open gnex and locked optimus cannot be compared.
On gnex if you delete an app - it just disappears.
On optimus deleting can cause the security error.

My bad. I'm so used to be unlocked and running custom Rom I don't know what I was thinking. The crappy ui overlay that gets put on phones is so embedded some times it can really make customization an issue. Should be getting unlocked soon enough

Well, i love the cm either, and i used to be nexus user.
When i signed a contract and received the phone (Ive completely forgot the specs cause never waited this phone, who waits LG?), i asked why 2nd battery is missing
So my way back home i was hoping battery life will be good.
After coming home, first of all i checked the xda for cm... and almost went ape sht after words "Locked bootloader"
So by end of day, i was seriously thinking about refund cause of internal battery, extremely short battety life, locked boot, and trashy oem.
Tomorrow is the last day of 2 weeks i can refund, but thanks for the unlock news, seems like i will continue my journey with OG

Don feel bad i have the l-01E version from japan and no onw is even working on this version. Im starting to serioisly think of selling

Launcher 7!

Never used it as my go-to launcher before, but the deep blacks our phone is capable of make it really good looking... Super smooth, too. Definitely check it out!
I agree launcher 7 is sweet with this screen.

Yeah I like Launcher 7, its nice and easy. But I think its eating power. Have you guys been seeing the same ? And whats a good fix ?

Had a power issue on the phone before and during Launcher 7. However, the problem seems to have resolved itself on its own.
ACTUALLY, check that...before loading Launcher 7, I tried a live wallpaper (windmill weather, or whatever it's called), and then I saw on my battery usage that it was still running in the background with Launcher 7 loaded...so I killed it and have had good battery ever since. Maybe you're having a similar problem...something from another launcher running in the background??
Honestly, my battery life atm is sick...off the charge for 2.5 hrs now and STILL at 99% (only sent two texts, though, but 3g and gps are both on, so that's crazy good in my book)
I was using the free version of Launcher 7. And in the reviews alot of people said it was killing there phones. The paid version has updates all the time and a update was put out with a fix. I brought the paid version for a $1.50. Since then I havent had a problem at all.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I rocked it for a while on my Evo, battery life was the only reason i stopped. With ADWEX i would get like 2.2%/hr, where as with Launcher7 i was getting close to 5%/hr- almost double the battery consumption.

For anyone wondering about getting the T-Mobile Galaxy SII

I've been an Android owner since the first myTouch 3G. I've owned and loved/hacked/modified both the 3G and myTouch 4G... I've played with IPhones and Blackberries.. And I can tell you the T-Mo SGS2 is the definitely the phone for me.
I'm running the stock ROM, rooted with SuperOneClick (zergRUSH exploit). I unlock my phone with facial recognition (Visidon AppLock Pro, in combination with WidgetLocker) and it works flawlessly. I'm running Wave Launcher which allows me to choose from multiple apps instantly with a swipe of the finger, LauncherPro Plus which cleans up stock home lag and offers endless customization, Sign (paid) which allows me to call/text anyone instantly by gesture, Minimal Reader Pro serving me multiple RSS feeds in a scrollable widget (so I always have my most important news constantly), LPP Facebook scrollable widget with the feed updating every five minutes, the coolest weather app ever IMO (BeWeather), the list goes on and on.
All this on a huge, vibrant and bright beautiful screen (yes there are good screens, not everyone gets the shaft and there are a LOT of very picky complainers) and the best part?
This phone flies. I mean fast. Not to mention I get between 14 (minimum) and 20 hours depending on how heavy my usage is.
Maybe I have some freak phone/battery and I got lucky. Maybe I know what I'm doing and some don't...
I'd be happy to help anyone who wants their phone to perform like a champ.
I don't use custom kernels. I'm on the stock ROM. I took the time to make this bad boy perform like the supreme phone it is, and honestly I couldn't be happier.
Trust me, get this phone. I'll help you hook it up!

Thanks for the info! I switched from Sprint a few months back and traded my Evo 4G for a Vibrant. I'm running MIUI. At first I loved this phone, but I have yet to get GPS truly working which apparently I use more than I thought. I didn't buy a phone when I switched because I was waiting for the GS2, but it took so long to come out that I'm now interested in the Galaxy Nexus, but who knows when/if that'll come to T-Mo.
Now that I've waited this long, would you still recommend getting the GS2, or waiting for the Galaxy Nexus? My patience is wearing thin though. If I were eligible for the Magenta Saturday discounts I would jump on the GS2, but it's for new Unlimited Value lines only. Any advice or thoughts?

Craigslist?? Other option is if you're eligible for a renewal on your contract..you can consider getting the phone at the subsidized price & pay cash for it..
If that was the case, I'd just sell the Vibrant on craigslist and take the cash to put forth on the GS2
I ended up selling my Sensation to get the GS2 and am very happy I did

you have to be using WidgetLocker
In WidgetLocker, go to: Settings > Advanced > HomeHelper
Check all three boxes:
"HomeHelper Compo.."
"HomeHelper Block Home"
"Block Home in other.."
Then click on "Select System Home" and choose WL HomeHelper.
Mission accomplished.
thanks...it works! still a little buggy though...but i guess thats just the app...the stock lockscreen comes up before the camera unlock...really annoying that you have to slide that first...is there a workaround for that?
edit: i disabled stock lockscreen in WL...seems to have done the trick..for now its working great...i like that it still shows the status bar when you turn it on...that way i can see see the time and battery info without unlocking it
another edit: found that if you long press the home button the recent apps list still comes up...if you have anything listed you can go to that app which then unlocks the phone...so this camera lock app is still useless

That only happens because you disabled stock lockscreen (it turns on "easy wake" ) otherwise long pressing the home button does nothing.
And I haven't found it necessary at all to disable the stock lockscreen, what you're talking about does not happen to me at all.. I've never used "disable stock lockscreen"
yeah...i figured out a way to get rid of the stock lockscreen...still..this app is a little annoying because after you unlock it, you have to use a slider unlock anyway for widgetlocker...if they ever get the unlock feature to work right (one that goes straight to the homescreen, without any bugs) ill gladly use it...but an ICS rom will probably be out by then..ONE CAN DREAM
try this- put some of your most used widgets on your lock screen so that when you unlock the phone you can read your news/check weather/texts our whatever so that it doesn't feel pointless to unlock your phone
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
yeah...i guess...i already have a widgetlocker set up that i like...by the time i come up with a new layout its not even worth the face lock feature..cause hopefully ICS is right around the corner
From what I read ICS is a major system hog. I'm not sure I'll even run it unless it's a custom ROM.

Android 4.2 Issues on Galaxy Nexus

Hello Guys
Let's share the bugs that everyone experiencing with the new stock JOP40C Android 4.2 for Galaxy Nexus
I'll go first
I have a problem when in a call the phone keeps doing a weird vibration and once i done the call i find the phone on the homescreen and have to go to the notifications menu to hang up
the other issue is randomly force close for the launcher and some apps
the camera is very laggy when rotating from landscape to portrait
anybody experiencing those issues ?
Ok guys anybody experiencing random reboot on the stock android 4.2 Galaxy Nexus
You can star this for Google to fix : http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39912
I am not. Also, and unrelated, I'd like to point out the redundancy of your title. Android 4.2 issues on, say android 4.0.4 would be revolutionary, but as you've directed this... Anyways, did you update ota, or flash the image manually? I've read of many issues from the image flashes prior to ota, that I haven't experienced at all since my ota on my drive home.
In stock browser in full screen mode i'm having a weird effect on loading bar on top, don't know if thats supposed to be like that or not.. just strange and sometimes the adress bar becomes bugged strange behavour
Yeah you might wanna reword that title...
Anyway, this update SUCKS!!!!!!! I was trying to be positive about it... Focusing on the cool new stuff... But then that shifted to at least neutral with the crappy changes.... But now this just sucks!!!!!!!!! I just got my first launcher FC EVER!!!! On my galaxy nexus.
No root, never flashed, been stock all the way on this phone just like any regular user. I used to root on my tmobile g2 but decided to keep my gnex all stock.
So what he hell!?!?! Force closing stock launcher!?!?!? Are you freaking kidding me?!? This update is turning into a total joke, its not funny google! Your pulling anAPPLE move on your most loyal customers(nexus customers!)
EDIT: this is a rant.. I was pissed at how badly 4.2 has screwed my phone up. But no i didnt mean the part about being as bad as apple..
I do think 4.2 sucks though. Especially compared to 4.1.2, in my experience they seemed to have sacrificed new features and "style" over stability with 4.2

"the camera is very laggy when rotating from landscape to portrait" --> Yes, this is extremely annoying.
And also I find that when the camera shot in landscape mode, about 10% of the upper and lower part of the viewfinder are cropped (i.e. the things you actually shot are more than what you saw in the camera app)
1). I don't have problem with phone call
2). Yes, launcher FCed! But only happened once after first reboot after flashing factory image.

No, just needed to rant
Plus the fc had just happened like 5min before i posted that. It was weird... I was browsing here on chrome, then pressed the home button and tried opening the launcher, and it got stuck loading for like 10sec... Then fc'd. Soo i tried again and it got stuck again and fc'd. Third time it finally worked.
I expect these things on rooted devices or custom launchers... But on stock its just sad, especially when it's never happened before the ota.

Flickering in Notification Bar
I have observed one strange thing on takju 4.2, If the notification window in already pulled down and and suddenly some new notification comes(like sms, email etc), all the notifcations start flickering wildly till I clear them all.
I am on stock no rooting nothing.
GNEX 4.2 default browser
Hi
Really hope someone can answer this for me, I've got a stock GNEX just got 4.2 by deleting my Google Services Framework cache and hitting update. Everything seems to be ok, but I still have the stock (blue icon) browser, I thought the default browser is chrome on 4.2. Also I don't seem to be able delete it, no biggie just annoying to have an app that I'm never going to use.
Anyway to remove it manually without rooting etc..
Many Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer this
Only issue I've noticed so far is the camera rotation is indeed very slow on my phone too.
Now, in 4.2, every notification makes my phone vibrate. This doesn't happen with earliers versions. I don't know if it is a "new feature", but I don't like it.

According to Google : Chrome is not part of the AOSP but for the new devices such as Nexus 4,7,10 it's the default browser but old devices like Galaxy Nexus i guess for now the default browser will be the Android Browser , who knows maybe with next major release of Android that will change
As for how to delete the default browser you need root privilege to delete the app apk from the system apps using something like Root Explorer
I had three soft reboots already since yesterday (at least that I noticed, maybe more while I wasn't looking). This is a clean install (flash_all.sh from the factory image).
To hell with it, I'm going back to my beloved CM10.

Android 4.2 IMPRESSIONS/THOUGHTS/REVIEW/OVERVIEW

After finally getting the update, I tried 4.2 for the first time. To be honest, I imagined 4.2 to be a needed update to the already amazing 4.1.2.
PERFORMANCE
Like some of the users have stated, there is a slight slow down in performance. After using 4.1, the drop in frame rates in 4.2 is more evident. Apps run slower, laggier, and less smooth. Not all apps though, just some. To name a few would be Apex Launcher, Lock Screen App, Whatsapp (only slightly) and a few others. This bugs me. Project Butter? I definitely do not feel that its faster now despite what people have said.
STABILITY
I don't know how many apps I couldn't run because they forced close. And I'm suspecting its due to this 4.2 update. So now I'm patiently waiting for the updates to hopefully solve the problem.
NEW FEATURES
- Lock screen
I really dislike the new lock screen. It just looks ugly to me. The fonts they used in 4.1 was already great. Why change it to this? Google Now has been placed down at the bottom now, making it slower to access it in my opinion. There were a few times where the phone couldn't detect my swipes - maybe it could just be my fault for not hitting the right place). The idea of having widgets on the lock screen is well...rather niche. There isn't even a lot of widgets that can be added on to the lock screen unless I have to reinstall all my apps that I installed before the update. The worst thing about is, it lags. Even on the lock screen.
- Quick settings menu
I don't really find this helpful. Here's why. I already have an app called 'Notification Toggle' that basically adds toggles in my notification bar. Its minimal, quick and fast. I have no problem with Google adding their own version. Its just that in doing that, they have gotten rid of the settings button at the main notification drawer (one finger pull for notifications). Their own toggles are alright. I'm OK with the look of it, but 5 toggles just isn't enough for me (the others are just shortcuts e.g. settings, profile, battery). Hope Google puts back their settings button like in 4.1 or just improve on their toggles.
- Photosphere
One of the main updates in 4.2. I do like the software and layout behind it. Its really well thought out and its definitely an improvement from 4.1.I can access things faster, capture pictures faster and do photosphere - which is googles new 360 panorama that is similar to Google maps Street View. It isn't exactly perfect but I'm guessing its also the users part to take a well-stitched photosphere.
- Keyboard
This is probably the part where I won't complain. This keyboard is the keyboard I've been waiting for. After using Sense 4's keyboard with 'Swype' gestures, I couldn't find any keyboard that could outmatch it. Everything was perfect for me with that keyboard. But now finally I can say that I have found a better one. Not only aesthetically but also functionally. I type faster and smarter now. Google has done a great job with the prediction engine. Almost 90% of the time I'll get the word I want. And even if I don't, the word will more than likely to appear next to the main predicted word. But I believe that the upcoming updates will improve on that.
CONCLUSION
And no, if you're wondering I'm no apple guy. I prefer Android over iOS. These tiny little things just tick me off sometimes. Especially when it comes to performance issues. Most probably either jumping back to 4.1 or flashing another ROM. I think the only thing I wanted from this update was the 'new' keyboard and probably photosphere. I could've just got it separately and not complain. But anyway, that's my thoughts on 4.2. Quite disappointed as you can tell. If you're thinking of updating, think again before you do.
UPDATE: Replaced lock screen with Widget Locker. One problem down. Weird, but it seems a tad faster now for some reason. Battery life is about the same or maybe a little worse.

I applied the OTA as soon as I was presented to it, and I have to say that something must have gone TERRIBLY wrong! I had an extremely fast and responsive device, now my gnex is really unusable. Slow, hanging, lags is not the proper word, we are talking about geological eras, here! Instead of going back to stock, I want to test some custom roms (I have to reinstall anyway, so what the heck... I will seize the occasion) and see what could have happened, but I am really desperate. I am trying to understand if I really have to go back to 4.1.2...
I did ota and dont have any sort of lag(camera orientation only), i have over a 100 apps installed and none of them have force closed or slowed down

Yes, that is what I have to do.
I have resistances to doing a full reset because I have made a backup of the SD, but I am happier if my data stay where they are!
For the moment, I will experiment with a couple of ROMs, so I can wipe everything but the SD via recovery.
I'm mostly disappointed with 4.2. A few nice additions I guess: lock screen widgets though it's more or less personal preference, native swipe texting and photosphere. I also like the foundation for multi-users. In the future I think that will be a big thing.
But there are too many downsides. Performance lag compared to 4.1.2 (yes, even after clean install) and my issue with my cheek still pressing things despite the proximity sensor having shut off the screen (I've pressed random numbers and even managed to hang up on people during calls because of it). These are the major things bothering me.
I'll probably be downgrading to 4.1.2 in a few days.

I think the bugs are because something is wrong with the OTA update itself.
I did a takju factory image flash with a clean storage and no performance issues or bugs at all (Except december), but when a friend of mine did the OTA he got most of the bugs people complain about.
Advice: wipe your phone clean and flash the factory image or wait for 4.2.1
I'm quite happy with 4.2
The lock screen is the matter of preference, I like to have the access to the camera when using PIN or gesture lock. In the future I see having some news or weather widget there but definitely not gmail or messaging. I'd quickly regret that if my phone would get lost or stolen.
I love swype functionality. It's a nice blend between two keyboards and it doesn't lag.
Photosphere is big, with some patience you can get amazing results. Try using some kind of tripod for best results.
Gmail pinch to zoom is the long awaited update and works great but also thanks to scaling your emails you can now scroll between emails more easily.
There are parts where the device feels more laggy, less responsive (camera orientation, multi task list) but these will hopefully be fixed with the future updates. And knowing there is no December in people app Google is probably working full speed to bring that 4.2.1 to us

I was having the same issues, when I installed it, but now I flashed a ROM and they changed these things. Try it yourself!
One more thing: white is really white on 4.2

One annoying thing, that you haven't mentioned, is that I'm able to change the notification (calls, texts, etc) volume from the lock screen.
Edit: As soon as I get enough time, I'll downgrade to 4.1.2 again.

4.2 made for nexus 4 which is quadcore device,so is it feel any different in gnex with dualcore??
I feel no difference between the two performance/battery wise. No dramas with it or whatsoever. I see no reason why not to upgrade to 4.2 but that's just me

Have you noticed...

Everyone wants to unlock their bootloader so they can run a custom ROM, the supposed purpose being to improve performance and gain new features. But then, once they get the new ROM on there, they keep posting about all the problems they are having, and how this, that or the other doesn't work as well as stock. After goofing with every, and I mean EVERY ROM available for the Razr M, IMHO there's absolutely no reason to use a custom ROM if you are expecting "like stock" performance. It's fun, it's addicting, it can get crazy sometimes, but don't expect it to ever be "Final". More than likely, it will be abandoned the moment a new phone or Android version comes along, and you'll be left with all those unsolved FCs and "almost works" features left hanging. Sad, really.
And then there's the whole "let's take the stock ROM from some other phone entirely and try to make it work on our phone" thing. I totally don't get that. If you like the Necco Choco-Android-o-rama's OS so well, why not just buy that phone instead? I'm just sayin'...
Rooting? That's totally different. I don't know what they do in other countries for bloatware, but Verizon certainly loads up some stinker software here in the US. Tell me, unless you're really into that sort of thing, why would the average shmoe care about Zappos? I certainly don't! And, if I wanted an app for NFL football, I'm perfectly capable of picking one from Google Play, yeah? Same with all the Amazon shtuff. Yeah I get it, advertising helps cover manufacturing costs, and all that jazz. Sure they do it to every new PC from Brand Name X too, but at least you can uninstall it. So rooting is sort of revenge for hogging my limited storage space and then limiting my ability to do anything about it.
And since I'm on this rant anyway, please... PLEASE!!! No more of this "Let's see if we can make our Android look like an iPhone" crap. Or worse, "Windows 8 Phone" crap! - Ewww! That's like taking a Jaguar and trying to make it look like a Ford Pinto... you might manage it, but who the heck would want it?
This rant has been a Public Service Announcement. The thoughts and views expressed herein are not to be considered... period. :silly:
You said it!
I linked to this from my restore where I have a commentary section.
I totally agree. Don't flash ROMs if your going to complain. Its one thing to report to the devs and quite another to ***** about it. And good on ya for the entire rant.

I really hope the motox stock can be ported.
It would be a big event if he & others did it.
I thank them on each post.

I originally rooted and unlocked my bootloader on this phone because of the screen shake issue that a Motorola introduced in an update if that didn't happen I may not of rooted the phone its stock ROM has such a good layout its no wonder so many complain. I however knew what I was getting into. Rule of thumb to new flashers backups are your friend and don't piss off the developers.
I like stock... de-bloat it and its good to go... just wish I could find something to mod the navi bar... remove the recent apps button replace it with the menu button and change color of it...

well, the main reason why folks are not as excited about the new ROMs, is b/c there are not any ground-breaking features on the 4.2.2 or 4.3 operating systems. When I got my first android, I had Froyo. Folks were dying to get to Gingerbread in order to vastly increase performance/battery life.
the deal with Jelly Bean, is that the upgrade from stock 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 or 4.3 is minimal at best - and the changes are mostly aesthetics (although, I read that 4.3 has better bluetooth connectivity). but mostly, 4.2.2/4.3 are primarily geared towards tablets.
the race is on now to see what KitKat can bring to current phone users.
in terms of improvements, just as radorix said, these custom ROMs eliminated the shakes that I was getting on 4.1.2. so for me, while that was not a huge deal, it's enough for me to go custom.
personally, I like the tiles layout of 4.2.2 as well as the AOKP customization, so I'll stick with that for now given that my battery life/performance is stock-like.
*claps* You said it. The Razr M has actually been the first Android phone I owned where I've kept the stock ROM. I think it does fine with 4.1.2 atm, and if I really wanted a change I'd probably just theme it.
The only thing that matters to me is stability and speed. I like a fast phone and I like to o/c, push the phone. I like to test things and try to understand its problems rather than build myself because I don't have the time. If I can find the right medium between speed and stability it becomes my dd, naturally. But stock was built for a reason and every now and then I go back to 4.1.2 because I miss some of the features. Like the far left quick settings menu and Circle Clock. Why have to find a work around to add all these features and fixes to a reimagined custom OS that causes more problems when its already working? We wouldn't have anything to work with if we didn't have the source to start at!
Couldn't agree more. I've had 9 different android devices in the past 4 years. Only ones I haven't rooted are my Sony tablet s (original, don't even get me started with their abandonment of this thing, hey let's leave bugs, make a seemingly unlockable boot loader, not share any code, abandon it after realizing all the bugs exist, then support everything we make after it) and my original nexus 7. I too came back to a stock debloated deodexed ROM for the RAZR M.

Lol. Not the only Sammy device they've dropped. Heard of the Galaxy Player 4.2?
Oh and ezknives, you do realize the menu button is completely redundant right? Considering it pops up if needed and isn't even supported/required for Holo apps

Not for me... with-in various apps it does not... when on different ROMs and I removed the multitasking feature and replaced it with a menu key I was able to utilize features that was other wise inaccessible... like deleting messages in Facebook app for instance... that cannot be done without a menu button or opening your browser and requesting the desktop site... I just need my menu key its never there when I need it...and I don't know what halo apps are nor use it I don't believe...

Holo means apps designed for android 4.0+.
It's the ICS+ ui style. There should be a way to access the menu without a dedicated button - either built-in or by telling the system it's a legacy app that needs the settings button to appear

Meh. I disagree. I've been running CM since it went official and I haven't had any complaints. I experience much-better-than-stock performance and battery life, plus it is way more customizable. I love it!

I just tried it again. Froze on reboot, wouldn't let me into recovery, same BS as all the 4.3 versions. And I wrote the book, well thread, on how to install it, so yeah I wiped etc.

i'm enjoying better than stock performance on the stable 4.2.2 branch, and i built a custom kernel for CM10.1 for better performance. I tried the 'stock' life and its boring lol. The custom ROM features and better performance are what makes it worth it in my view. 4.3 will be even better as work is continually being done on it, and it hasn't been out that long. Also, I think we need to give appreciation to the devs for giving us options as far as what we can run on this phone compared to being stuck with only one choice.
CM is getting good. Recently the "display freezing" issue got fixed, also more fixes for cardock audio and wifi. It simply takes a while to get it all done properly (with that what's left is SIM I/O and HDR (works with Moto X camera application)).
@netizenmt: Booting to recovery is not affected by the ROM you have installed, so you screwed up the installation at some point.

Would you offer a build for a Bluetooth phone user that has the SD swap working?
One that might quiet this thread?

There are a few tricks to getting 4.3 installed and running but it will never happen if u just quite and go back to stock before u get it up and running correctly. I had a terrible time getting 4.3 to boot, keyboard forcing close, stability etc but I figured all that out and wouldn't think of going back to stock. The amount and way if partions the internal drive alone will keep me from ever going back to stock.

You actually just made my whole point.
While it's cool you had time, patience, skill and effort to resolve your issues with 4.3, that's not the point of this thread. So do I. The point is, if you think you're going to slap one of these ROMs on and everything is going to work like stock, forget it. If that's what someone expects, they should stick to stock.
