After a year, Google Play is STILL the laggiest piece of software I have seen on ANY platform. How can Google still have it so laggy? I never use Google play because the experience sucks.
How come Google didn't fire the guy who approved the app with such lags and still haven't solved this issue?

You're alone on this one, I don't have any problems beyond things not updating as fast as I'd want them to be, and some downloads never starting.

Are we talking about the market? If so mine is nice and smooth, but it was laggy before but they updated it long ago.
When you scroll up or down when browsing apps its sooo lagy! But when you view an app its very smooth. Also transitions on Google play is very choppy.
Maybe this is an ICS issue because its the same on every app

You may need to re flash your phone or something. I am on my GSII and other than the millisecond it takes for the icon to appear the market is very fast and smooth. I can flick my finger and scroll through fifty apps with no issue..... Every click and backspace is smooth..... You might want to try and smooth your phone out..... Seems like issues from flashing a million times. Don't forget to wipe..... And wipe again.
killing is my business, And business is good.
You're holding it wrong. But seriously the only lag you mention might be when you scroll down the page is caching more apps and you're waiting for it to download. The faster your connection the less lag/caching you will experience. Everything else is as smooth as my latency allows. No lag here.

When looking at a long list of apps, scroll the page/screen one app at a time, then you'll have no lag.
Like everyone's said, there's "lag" because the screen is generating/downloading/updating the blank app icons to the app icon's picture.

To the OP you seriously have some really bad problems with android. You were ranting about nexus and the updates now about the play store why don't you go with iOS or windows phone 7. I personally went with iOS for 6 months and yes there is less bugs (yes they do have bugs trust me ) but the system is so closed the you get bored at it ( at least I did ) and the app store takes longer on iOS ( I do still have my ipad tho ) but is just how it is. Nothing is perfect nothing will be. Personally I haven't played with windows phone 7 much so I can't give you any excuses but that it doesn't have the apps and some are too expensive. Please move on if you feel like it, I do no feel the phone laggy and I don't have problems with it. I don't look for something wrong I just use it as normal and so far mine everything works normal .
For the rest sorry for the long post. Please let's move on and forget about this

Hey guys,
Anyone else experiencing their phone to be slightly slower AT times then when on Sense 4.0? Just sometimes my home screen and other parts of the system will just feel generally slower. The camera seems slower and the 'Developer Options' are really glitch now true. Tell the screen to flash when there is an update and the whole system becomes unresponsive. Really can't understand it..

well, you are the first one from whom i have heard that after installing sense 4.1 your phone is slower...
mate 4.1 is lot faster than sense 4.0 and is locked at 60 fps
try factory reset once and check if these problems still exist
have been using sense 4.1 for more than 2 weeks now and just loving it
Actually it is away faster in the screen switching, it is extremly smooth. However the app drawer lags alittle.
But overall it's faster.

Try a factory reset or if your rooted with a custom recovery just format cache and dalvic cache. Then Give the phone 2 full charges from at least 20% in at least a 2 day span.
It could be a bad app or mod that is causing the issues. Usually it's never a bad ota update that slows the device. Also I recommend a backup program.

Not so great after all...
While I don't notice that my phone is any slower after the update to 4.1, the update hasn't solved my WiFi issue. Which I wasn't really expecting it to, but they did say it should even out the signal, it hasn't. I couldn't tell the difference about the 3D widget stacking or whatever on the stock launcher, 'nor could I notice a difference when opening the app drawer or swiping through homescreens.
That is not to say that the update didn't do anything. I know that benchmarks don't prove much of anything, some argue that they do. I don't really care too much for them, but out of curiosity sake, I ran some. Now, my phone is bone stock, I can't unlock the bootloader because my volume rocker cable is broken. So I'm not rooted, nothing. With Sense 4.0 and Android 4.0.3 I scored horribly, worse than the One X in the stats, at about 3900. I don't know what was going on, but I ran that twice and got the same result. Anyway, after the update to 4.1 and 4.0.4 I scored 5928 and that is with Apex Launcher and Holo Locker locked in memory.
Take from the benchmarks what you will! The 4.1 update does not work miracles, but it's a step in the right direction!

I am very serious, I found it to be very smooth to begin with on 4.0... I didn't have my screens filled with lots of widgets or shortcuts though. That might make a difference. I haven't tried using a livewallpaper yet either. I do notice that Recent Apps seems to be a lot smoother, but with the stock launcher, I don't see much. The app drawer might be quicker to open than before.

I'm experiencing the same after my ota - its great that the menu bar has gone but the home screen and recent apps just feel a bit sluggish.
For example, when opening recent apps, the current app will appear but other apps to the left of it appear after a slight delay. Swiping home screens is definitely more sluggish here; before ota it was a bit jerky (when swiping, home screen would occasionally jump from one position to another, but in general they followed finger location exactly), but now they lag slightly behind my finger, and instead of jumping positions they pause for a moment and then continue to move smoothly. I think this could be caused by the business calendar app though, it usually only happens on that page...
The problem with the launcher closing when a few apps are open is still just as bad as it was before (and still takes about 15-20 seconds to load the launcher again, which does seem a bit excessive...)
But despite the complaining above, it's really not the end of the world and I don't think it's worth bothering to do a factory reset and see if it works although I'm gradually growing to hate sense and might build up the courage to root and flash some experimental roms soon...

Hi,
Had the same problem. Turns out at least on my device after update to 2.17 the dev option "Don't keep activities" was ticked.
I know it wasn't before.
Wonder if it was a battery saving measure. Anyway made my phone sluggish so I turned it off, all back to normal.
Cheers
Out of nowhere my GS3 is very sluggish. Swiping between home screens is jumpy. Some games literally run at half-speed. Launching apps can take quite some time. Etc...
I haven't installed any new apps since the last time I noticed it was running smoothly. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this. I've tried battery pulls, hard resets and clearing the cache from CMW. But nothing seems to work.
I was thinking that maybe an app had been updated in the background that is now a problem. But I can't think of a way to tell which apps have been recently updated.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Many thanks!
-Jason

Factory reset, restore no apps. Check got lag. Add one app, check for lag. Continue until lag is found
And when you add an app back, dl it fresh from the market (no restoring anything).

One of the first things I thought of was that maybe Nova received an update that I wasn't aware of and it had broken something. So I tried TouchWiz and GoLauncher... all with the same result. Overall, the phone felt slightly sluggish. But some things apps and games became unusable. The new Rayman game literally ran at half speed. Other games would run at full speed but you could tell that control response was just a hair off. So you would end up walking off a lot of cliffs to straight into an enemy before you could get a jump off. It also effected load times on most things. Some apps that would load in 4-5 seconds were suddenly taking 30-40.
I can repeat this problem 100% of the time. I even tried toggling off the CPU option but Power Save still gave me the same issues (which doesn't make sense).
I have a completely stock never rooted GS3 and have had this sluggishness since the update. It happens when the screen auto dims, even though I have auto-dimming turned off. It also happens when I wake the screen up. I can't get the notification bar down or anything for about 5 long seconds; then it's fine until the shadow of my finger covers the front light sensor and the screen dims. It's almost like a hiccup. I'm going to factory reset this weekend. Was hoping to get Jelly Bean before I did so I didn't have to download all my apps again, and set all my settings. This is my first Samsung Android and it's an amazing phone when it's first started but after it runs for a few hours it gets buggy; so I'm pretty disappointed.
A note to anyone trying to solve this mystery: before the update I couldn't get my calendar to accept custom notification sounds, now I can. Since not everyone had that issue I'm guessing the software had issues since the day the phone was built. In manufacturing sometimes **** happens.
When in doubt pull it out . Oh I miss the BlackBerry Battery pull days to fix lag

Hi guys.
Anyone got serious and annoying lag on the latest SwiftKey? It's so unfortunate, on my GNex it still runs as smooth as butter and no lag but on 2 different note 2 handsets it just runs like a dog. Laggy touches and it'll slow and catch up. Soooo frustrating...

Cheers.

I too have it but barely noticable!
I guess its because its learnt too many custom words from my sms's.
Long time Swype beta user, I converted to the newest version of the SwiftKey out of pure curiosity, and after trying for some days found that this is a keeper, and it is so fast when I open it and no problems whatsoever with this keyboard, I use also the default keyboard for hand writing with the spen board switcher, just amazing experience, so far. Btw I am using 240 dpi.
About your problem, try cleaning cache plus dalvik cache and reinstalling one or 2 times plus reboot. Hope this will help.

In Hebrew if I flow more than 2 words it stops understanding what I flow, so I don't have THAT problem. On English its pretty annoying..
This happens sometimes. Sometimes the keyboard doesn't even disappear or anything like that because it's stuck. Only thing you can do, I imagine, is clear cache, and start again. Pain in the butt! But hey... it's all you can do ATM.
Happens with me too. When too many processes are running in the background, it sort of lags sometimes. Also it has crashed on me twice till now. Not much but just putting it here. You can try clearing the cache and see if that helps in any way!
unlink it from your SMS , facebook and twitter.
I use Swiftkey and no lags at all.
Thanks for all your replies guys.
Yeah have emailed them and got the usual. We work on improving it all the time blah blah. She said to use a task killer... Strange as we all know this isn't the best way to handle memory any more. That'll just ruin things more. Anyway...
Yeah I don't have it linked to any of my accounts, I don't have twitter ect anyway so I don't know what's causing the lag. I wish it was as smooth as my GNex... I don't understand, this phone is twice the specs and it lags on a keyboard, weird...
Sent from LV-426...
Strange, I never had the problem and I use Swiftkey for 3 months (with stock and dualnote roms (actually))
I think you should try to install again your rom, maybe you have some files corrupted and it makes it laggy.
If you are root, you can also try to use Greenify to decrease your ram usage or/and remove some app activities to disable autostart of them. (autostart or system tools app can do that)
Oh ok thanks man.
Yeah I haven't rooted yet. Going to but haven't got around to it haha. So fully stock and I'm having these issues. It's not unusable is just slower than it should be. And my GNex runs it perfect. It's strange.

Strange indeed, SwiftKey is an app I've never had issues or freezes with, and I restore it with data with TB on new roms like once a month.

Wow all I can say is that Swiftkey has been giving me lags ALL The time. I'm on MC3 and I"m not sure if it's the update or the program, but I have even reset to factory, started anew, backed up, cleared cache and then restored, I've tried EVERYTHING. Still laggy as hell and then buttery smooth at other times. Strange.
I noticed at times that it took a while or the keyboard won't show up at all. I was using latest Samsung Rom based on xxdmc3 with both Swype and swiftkey. I'm now on ARHD and its doing fine so far. Somehow I think the issue it with the libraries that calls for the keyboard to pop up when needed, and not necessarily from the keyboard app.

is there an option to use one keyboard for S-pen and another for key-press... like stock for s pen and swiftkey for hand writing??
I've a problem with Swiftkey on Quicksheet (from QuickOffice Pro) either on stock Polaris View :
When I have modified a cell, I can't modify a new one. These softwares freeze. And with the stock Samsung one all is ok.
Have you been facing this ?

Is there any reason to use Swiftkey over Swype Beta? Because Swype works for me flawlessly and I have Swiftkey on my GNex and it seems to me that Swype is quite superior to Swiftkey?
Thanks again guys for your feedback.
Yeah I get all that bad stuff. As I've said I've emailed SwiftKey and they haven't helped me at all. Really disappointed.
I get laggy input and keyboard bring up is sometimes slow too. Geez, this device is quad core and should fly compared to my GNex... My GNex runs it like butter. Never misses a beat. Really confusing.

I've had my note 4 for a couple weeks now, and I have to say that the phone is not as powerful as I expected. Whenever I run a resource heavy app, the phone experiences severe lag after exiting the app. For instance, the Caustic app, which is a music mixing app, runs descent on my note 4 but after exiting the app the launcher becomes very stuttery and laggy. I loaded the phone up with Nova launcher prime, and it does work better, yet still lags. I have clean master installed, and I've gotton notifications from it a couple times telling me the RAM is above 80% and the CPU is hot.. I've always been under the impression that clearing processes from RAM on Android is a no no, but as a last ditch effort, I went ahead and did it anyway. Over all, I'm not happy with the phone performance. My 2013 nexus 7 performes better, and this is supposed to be a beefier device as far as hardware is concerned.. Should I take the phone back to AT&T?

So I tried caustic not sure how long but it does lag the launcher after exiting. (nova launcher)
Also after reboot every thing is running smoothly again and started caustic again and it does not lag after exiting ~5mins of running (maybe I didn't leave it running as long or what not I'm not sure but that's all I can observe so far)
Hope that helps you a bit.
This is exactly why we need the ability to flash custom roms on Samsung devices. The out-of-the-box experience sucks. The phone performs night and day on a custom rom.

Thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it. My girlfriend has an AT&T Note 4 as well. I loaded hers up with the caustic app, and had the same laggy results. Yea, sometimes after exiting the app, the lag is so bad I have to reboot, other times a simple screen lock and unlock takes care of it, and other times there is no lag at all. When I was using the touch wiz launcher it caused lag everytime.. Nova launcher is working much better, but still not satisfactory..IMO, if I have what is considered to be one of, if not the most powerful smartphone currently, I shouldn't be dealing with this at all.. I think it's probably just Samsung bloatware interfering with phone function.
Personally I don't think it is a deal breaker just keep an eye out for those apps it may not be 100% compatible with our phones.
You may want to report the issue to the developer of Caustic. It could just be a software glitch isolated to this phone.
I personally haven't had the chance to see this phone lag at all and I definitely use it very heavily.

I personally haven't had the chance to see this phone lag at all and I definitely use it very heavily.

Do you use a cleaner app? I use clean master, and about once or twice a day I get a notification from clean master telling me the phone is preforming poorly, and ram is over %80. This usually occurs when I have a few apps open, and I usually do experience minor lag leading up to this. I allow clean master to wipe the ram, then reboot the phone and all is well for a while. This is very discouraging..

While a bit counterintuitive to what we have been seeing on windows etc.
This phone is designed to use all of its ram.
It should not lag while doing it and apps that causes it to lag is probably dev error so make note of those apps and keep an eye out for it.
Ram is not being used unnecessarily android purposely stores cached in ram to allow it to load faster.
It is not the app's fault. I made a thread about this same exact behavior a couple weeks ago but not a single person responded. Jittery, laggy performance after exiting a game or other graphics intensive app. Only thing that would get rid of it was a reboot.
I got a PM from Samsung Support about it though which surprised me. I think they may be aware of some type of issue.
It happened for me after two different apps closing so it's not your app. And it doesn't happen after every closing either. The jittery behavior is not limited to the launcher either. Next time it happens open another app and scroll, like the browser. It was terribly choppy.
The good news is Samsung reached out to me which is always a positive sign for fixes.

Yea, definitely not the apps fault. I've confirmed this by installing the same app on my Nexus 7 and Galaxy S4; the app runs fine on those two devices without any lag as a result. It may be compatability issues with the newer qualcom chip, or possibly all of the bloatware on the phone weighing things down. These ideas are all speculation on my part. It's good to hear that Samsung is aware of the issue. Please keep us posted on anything new in regards to the issue. Just an FYI, I've replaced Nova Launcher with the Google now launcher, and for the last 3 days the phone has been running remarkably smoother. Hopefully lollipop will fix these issues.. Root would definitely be nice.

If I get any updates I'll make sure to inform you all. I'm using Nova and it seems pretty fast. Were you having issues with it that made you switch to Google? Or is Google Launcher just that much better?

I was having some minor issues with Nova Launcher. I was getting random crashes, where Nova itself was actually crashing, which was a first for me. I was also getting some lag while scrolling, opening and closing apps. When I use Nova Launcher, I tweak allot of the settings, so that may have had something to do with it, but I've used Nova Launcher for the last year and a half on my Galaxy S4 w/o any problems.. Google now launcher doesn't have any options for customization of any kind, but it has been very smooth and effective.
