Get Most Battery Life Out Of Your GS2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I have lately been running tests of different ROMs and trying to get the best battery life possible! I have tested out these ROMs:
Jedi Mind Trick X1
CM10 Stable Release 4.1.2
AOKP Jellybean 4.1.2
Slim Bean Unofficial 4.1.2
When i flashed these ROMs i did a battery calibration (off app from play store NOT CWM). And ran them on FULL Brightness, GPS ON, BLUETOOTH ON, and running on Wi-Fi! I opened up netflix and watched multiple movies (same movies for each ROM)...until the phone went completely dead. Here are the results i got:
Jedi Mind Trick X1: 4 1/2 Hours
CM10 Stable Release: 3 3/4 Hours
AOKP Jellybean: 4 Hours
Slim Bean Unofficial: 5 3/4 Hours
As most people know the Screen does use over half of the battery. So on this test the screen was on NON-STOP for the amount of time you see above. And 99% of people will not have their screens on for that long at one time. So this is the WORSE-CASE scenario for battery life. I was impressed mainly with Slim Bean and Jedi Mind Trick did good as well.
You may get different results than I did. If you are using a ROM that i did not test or you tested one of these ROMs above and got different results please post below your results.
I hope this helped guys

Thanks for this.... maybe i need to try out slimrom again

I used an unofficial version of it... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964944&highlight=slim+bean
I did do a battery calibration! I suggest doing that and you should have GREAT battery life.

Ok guys. I have officially moved over to the Galaxy Note 2. I no longer have the Galaxy S2 so i cannot add anymore support for it since it is against the rules. I appreciate all the help from this device thread and now you guys can see me at the GN2 forums. Goodbye Galaxy S2 Users

Personally I have the best battery performance, regardless of the ROM, by setting up CPU profiles. Basically you can set one profile to limit the to 432 (or whatever you want) while the screen is off and 1500+ while screen is on. I use ROM Toolbox Pro for this and get really good results. If your interested just do some searching on ROM Toolbox Pro and CPU profiles. Just thought I would share

How come no matter what rom I run my battery still juices super fast

I'm averaging like 10+ wit AOKP runnin at 1242/192 badass/sio on both cores using 4g when I need it on 4.2.2
AOKP B5 3/10nightly NOS V0.0.7

people say that doing battery wipes are useless? From my experiences, i have gotten terrible battery life with those roms. It must have been due to the fact that the battery was not properly calibrated.

Not sure if guys care about 4g speeds sbut this is what i got using edge only... Just used my phone for what it is. A source of communication. I also noticed better and more consistent call quality. Running an older build of cm10 back from October. Im sure I could get even more battery if i upgrade to stable
There's about three hours screen on time

[REQ][ROM][ICS 4.0.3] ::DARKSIDE.EVOLUTION.3:: [v1][UVLE1 Battery Tweek

Hey guys i was wondering if the battery on this rom could be tweeked [ROM][ICS 4.0.3] :ARKSIDE.EVOLUTION.3:: [v1][UVLE1][WiFi CALLING][6.12.2012]...ive noticed that the battery tweak on the DArkside Ucle2 Has IMPROVED ALOT!! was wondering if anyone can relay this request to TDJ? Due to my limitation of post i am unable to post anything on his thread...Thx
No it just sucks at battery life. I went from a full battery to 30% in under 6 hours with only 1.5 hours of screen time vs the 16+, 3 hour+ screen on time with the att base. Ucle2 is much better with battery life until some kernel adjustments are made. No battery tweaks though. I suspect the radio or kernel and since you cant do anything about the latter, try flashing different radios. Try the modified LDE radio. Its the one I used to eat sweet ass battery life with ucle2. Report back with your findings. I had a few issues with the new tmo release so I didn't even bother to try it. I had flashed the lc8 radio with the tmo release.

Yeah I heard the Telus is way better on battery life. For right now I'm sticking with UCLE2 beta 7 with the Telus radio. I been getting 17 hours average on heavy use and I'm happy with it for the time being. My suggestion if you are going to use the Tmo release, try Telus radio...calibrate battery and set all apps to manual sync, so they are not running trying to sync airpush info.
Edit: almost forgot, try to keep your screen low as you can get it. Auto is a waste of battery

I get that it just released etc. Its just that for me the initial performance and battery life has been worse than every ics build I've flashed. Even when when the bases were initially released like this one. I have no issue staying on evo 7.1. It runs flawlessly. It'd just be nice to join the other users having a great experience with it instead I get a broken rom with crap battery life. And before anytime says "its too early let it settle in idiot!"
I flashed back to evolution 7.1 ucle2 earlier. From a full charge on its initial drain I'm at 63%, 11 hours, 2.5 hours of screen on time. Certainly beats the 6 hours and 1.5 hours of screen on time for the tmo release on its initial run don't it?

Hey I'm all for what works for you but the overall feedback from other users as well as myself running my second battery purge just isn't consistent. Anyways I'm not going to debate what sucks and what doesn't suck. I'm only asking everyone to chill out with the slander on peoples work. I mean Mr X and TDJ are rolling with things but dammmmmm, the overall @ss woopin they are taking is ridiculous.
Oh no!! I hope I'm speaking for others as myself but I in no way blame the devs. I'm flaming T-Mobile for this release not them lol for god sakes these guys are our saviors from a ****ty phone experience. As someone stated before. It'd just be nice for one of these multi billion dollar companies to release a fully working rom for once. Instead of enhancing experience like the devs want they spend it fixing the crap churned out by these companies. I've owned my share of android phones and can't think of one release that went smoothly for everyone as a whole.

If you want the latest software, most stable, and best battery life ROM, go with MMuzzy's AOSP ROM. Using it now, and its amazing
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
ROMs themselves rarely ever have an actual impact on battery life. Most postive effects for battery come from the kernel, and negative ones from rogue apps.
Before you ask which kernel offers the best battery, it really depends on the requirements of the user and the phone itself. You'll just have to try a few.

Flash kernel in cwm the same as you would have a rom. Be sure to clear cache/dalvik first.

I've tried many ROMs and Kernels with no success in the battery life department.
My phone charger died so I downloaded an app...Easy Battery Saver...my phone was still at 34% after 1 day and 7 hours. I was NOT heavily using my phone but still this is the best battery life I have ever experienced. I was always on the "battery saver apps are useless" team until recently.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still flashing
Just love my new app.

Hmm.. thats strange. I'm on MMuzzy's ROM which is pure AOSP and I get around 2 and a half hours of screen time. And some people around the forums have gotten around 5 hours of screen time with different combinations of ROMS and Kernels.
I have tried numerous roms, if not all of them for the galaxy nexus, and there is a difference between roms, even using the same kernel.
I have been getting amazing battery life using Eclipse.

I used to get some awesome battery life. VZW + 2100mah. Typically 4 hours screen on time was normal.... now I'm lucky to get 1hr. I can't remember if it was the jelly bean update or the inclusion of Google Now.
Does letting the ROM settle really help? I have been getting terrible battery life out of my 2100mah. The battery just drains when the screen is off. No rogue apps, but this is a fresh install as of 24 hours ago

I wasn't going to put my 2 cents in but because there are so many complaints about this being in the wrong place, I just have to now.
I have tried many different ROM's and kernels and found there always seems to be the "right" combination sooner or later. Right now I am on AOKP w/Franco M6 and getting about 14 hours with 24% battery left, 2.5 hours screen time, mostly LTE and moderate phone use, best I have seen of any combo for me on this ROM. For CNA the right kernel for me was lean kernel. A little experimentation and patience and you will find that sweet spot soon enough.
Edit: the whining drew me to it, sucked me in so I couldn't stop myself from answering
If someone can get 4+ hours screen with mostly 3G, let me know. haha.
Wrong section
However as for battery life slim ROMs work great but I'm on jbsourcery built in trinity and I've definitely had worse d: the only ROM I've used that's had has battery is pa however they've had multiple updates since then so I'm sure its not horrible now

2 things here:
1) OP, wrong section. Questions belong in their own section, the Q&A section. Development is reserved for Roms, kernels, tweaks, etc.
2) If you guys see something posted in the wrong section, report it. No need to get in an internet gang war about it. Us mods have a life too and we can not be here 24 hrs a day to watch over you. When you hit the report button, we see it.

Battery life on Slim Bean 3.1.0

I'm still too laconic on XDA forums to post this in response to gmillz' SlimBean 3.1.0 ROM posting in Android Development, so here it is.
I'm getting the attached battery life after one day, one full power cycle on my new 1850mAh battery and fresh installation of the above referenced ROM. Here's my battery today on slim bean...I love this ROM
Since my phone "lost" my IMEi (actually, it was just not able to read it anymore), I flashed back to Stock Samsung 4.0.4. Before, I used SB 3.0.
And I can also report that battery life is much better now. Perfect example is a night in flight mode, which results in about 1% loss vs 6% loss @ SB.
As there are several guys I talked to which have perfect battery life with this ROM and I also had till 2.8 or so, there must be some misconfiguration. Or a battery draining app.

I've been running this ROM for the good half part of this day, and I must say, the battery is not as good as I hoped. Maybe I'll have to let it settle in, but CM so far beats this in terms of battery life.
I agree with the comment about stock being better than SB 3.0 and onlychevy's 3.1. It is a downer to realize most custom roms don't actually optimize for better battery life. I test the battery life by playing 5 minutes of youtube on 3g only to see how much is drained. On SB, 1% is drained for every 2 minutes of playback, and 3 minutes on stock.

[Q] Wiked JB v3

So I am thinking about switching over to this ROM, now that Frosty ROM is no longer being supported by the dev. I have been reading through the treads and I don't see any issues people are having with this ROM. That's a huge plus!
I wanted to ask before flashing, does this ROM have themes? Does it have the ability to run the Galaxy Note 2 gallery and Camera, if so where is the download link? Does tethering work? How is battery life?
Sorry for the 20 questions, but I have to use my phone for work. I have to have it work.
Themes should work it has the option within aroma installer for the note2 gallery and stuff battery was awesome for me when I tried it got 4 hours on screen and 14 hours through the day.

I've been using Wiked JB v3 for about a week now after having tried about 5 other ROMs over the past 3 months. As another poster noted, Wiked is TouchWiz based, which I've decided I like better than CM/ASOP. When you flash Wiked, Aroma gives you several options including multiple launchers, gallery options and a couple others I don't remember offhand. I've been tremendously pleased with Wiked - it's stable, I've noticed nothing that's broken, battery life has been good (not great, but good), and no noticable issues related to voice or data signal. The developer is planning an update soon and seems to be providing stellar support to users.
Good luck!

I went ahead and flashed it last night. ( I came from Frosty 11.1) and I really like what I have seen so far. Since this is my first battery cycle the android system is pretty high (20%) and gsiff_deamon is what is driving it. I know this was an issue on Frosty, but am wondering if it is for Wicked. On Frosty the gsiff_deamon would run all time after experiencing a HOT BOOT. The solution was to reboot the phone. Is this the same thing? I have gotten 11 hrs out of this battery as of now and I am at 14%. Screen time only 1hr 36 min... I know I have to go through 3 cycles to really tell if battery is good, so that's why I am taking it with a grain of salt. If it does keep up, I might have to find another ROM. I was getting 16-17 hrs with Frosty running stock kernel (2 hr screen time)

If battery continues to be an issue for you, one you might consider is Team Sonic's FreeGS3 R7.1.1 "Resurrection". It is also TouchWiz based but has been tweaked in a way that gave me really good battery performance. I had a few random issues with it and decided to switch, but it was overall a good ROM.

Extended battery dying quickly

If you look at the screen shot, my 4300 MAH battery was dying with only gps on on low brightness screen time of 2 hours and 30 min. This is very short compared to a week ago when I got it, I got almost 6 hours of screen time.
Also I had about 45 min of screen time with juicedefender on and then idle from 7 to 1:47 today and 73% battery!?
Remember this is an extended battery, this seems too quick.
Could it be the battery, or programs on my phone. But I checked battery and screen was the most battery consumption on Low brightness. And nothing running in the backround

Restoring data. Like games or text with titanium backup or mybackup. I think that is what I was reading. I never used cm10.1 for more than 5 min, but I read the thread everyday to see how it is going.

Well, the only stable is cm10 stable, which is android 4.1.2, not 4.2.2.. but I personally love cm10 stable. You could try to dirty flash, but I have never went down an android level over dirty flash, but I would imagine it would not end well. I would recommend a clean flash. If you need a good backup app, look into app backup and restore for your apps and mybackup for text and app data. It can backup so much and is so simple to use. Both in play store.
Sorry about having to clean flash, but after you do, if it isn't your battery (which I believe it isn't), battery life should be improved greatly.

Thanks man, one of the best answers I've gotten from this site.
Last question , I chose 4.2.2 FOR the battery life improved through idle, but this changes everything, do you think staying here would give me useful features in otherwise wouldn't have in cm stable?
App Backup, while backing up can I multitask? I have hw to do lol and need the browser

I know people will argue otherwise, but the only thing different I see in 4.2.2 is 4 things.
the camera, which I flashed on 4.1.2 because I found a zip. Loving it.
4.2 keyboard, which I also have on 4.1.2. Very cool.
The lock screen which personally I think it is a good idea but it isn't that important to me. Cm10 stable is better suited because it is simple.
And last which is the quick toggles. I like this feature too but isn't a deal breaker for me. As cool as they are, I just use the power widgets in cm10 stable and they work just fine.
I know they say 4.2.2 helps improve battery life, and yes, in the long run it will. I don't know what nightly you flashed, but they are exactly what they are, nightly. They are just test for new things they put in to see if anything breaks. I am personally gonna wait till I see a stable 4.2.2. Rom until I make the jump up. 4.2.2. Is gonna have bugs as it is brand new. I can wait until the bugs are squished. If you want awesome battery life, you could try some of these touchwiz ROMs. Sometimes AOSP doesn't play nice with some phones as every phone is different.
So do as you wish. If you can live without some 4.2 features (which some you can get on 4.1.2) then make the jump. If the battery still acts up on 4.2 to where it bothers you, then switch. If you don't mind it stay. It is all up to you. .
I also forgot to add: if you flashed a nightly of cm 10.1, you could try the snapshot (monthly build by cm people).
These are considered more stable for daily use.
I am gonna go to bed now, but if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask/pm me. I will get to answering them as soon as possible.
Hope it all works out.

I had the worst luck with most aftermarket batteries, tried all brands, from everywhere, some didn't bother about telling you there is no NFC chip, and, they all got super hot while charging. None of them seemed to hold a charge longer than OEM.
