I have the same problem. I have a At&t note ii and holding the back key does nothing. Anyone know whats up?

I have a Bell 7150. Long holding the back button does nothing. Long holding the physical button will bring up the Task Manager.
Something do with LJ2 build?

You guys need to wait for your respective firmware update or flash new or custom rom

there is no issue with the latest update. Just go to the mobile settings - select display and the select multi window and the side bar will come automatically

To slove your problem,
go to settings/applications, select the tab all and saerch for com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService
Tab it and choose to Clear data and force stop (don't worry you won't lose anything)
Restart your Galaxy Note 2.
When you're back on your homescreen, long holding your finger on the back key and your multiwindow sidebar will be back again :victory:
I had the same problem in the past.

Help, I have a Galaxy S7, NOT Edge. When I first got it a sidebar appeared and I arranged my items then closed it to open again. Well, now I cannot get it at all, I was holding a few items and pressing my on/off key and it appeared again, now I cannot get it to show up. I have found several YouTube videos on how to turn it off, but nothing to turn it on.
I have tried looking in settings, unless there is a section I am missing. I know there is a split screen, that is not whst I am looking to use.
I have held back button, I have held back button and on/off key at same time. I have swiped screen, with screen off or on, nothing.
Would really like to have it back.

Lucky son of a gun!!!...
I have my fingers crossed the AT&T version will also have Multi-Window at launch or at least get an update soon after.
What do you mean by multi? i have just tried it... Holding down the back button for 2 seconds, and then opening a program. It just opens up a new program at full screen
Drag an icon to to the top and another to the bottom

It's just a setting you need to correct. Do this:
Click and open the phone
Tap the menu button (next to home key)
Click on call settings
Check the auto screen off
thank you very much

App to swap the Back and Menu/recent keys?

Guys,
I know it's easy to do when we have root. Also it might already post it somewhere. I couldn't find it.
What the name of the app let me swap the Back and Menu hardware keys for Non-root phone ?
Just picked up the Note 4 this morning.

I don't know of a way to change touchwiz keymapping without root and xposed framework.
but if you're unaware of this, you can actually bring up menu by holding the recent apps key for 1 second
I care more about the back button. I'm holding phone with the left hand and can't reach to the back button

Here's something that may help. Settings > Device > One handed operation > Side Key Panel
It will put a soft key version of the Home/Back/Recents button on the left side of the screen. It's barely visible until you swipe it when needed. I also use my left hand and had problems reaching the "back" button.
i really hate it too!
freaking samsung should atleast give us a option to choose if we want that button to be menu or task manager.

Would either of these work for your situation? One is pie type launcher on screen the other just puts a dedicated back button on the screen? I've been searching for a post I KNOW I saw with a root free app that someone found that'll let you swap the buttons and even assign a hardware button to a function but I just can't relocate it
I'm using ADW launcher. the back button on screen maybe a temp solution
If we have root, this should work fine:

[Q] Universal Switch enabled, screen unresponsive

So I activated Universal Switch on S6 Edge to check it out, something went wrong in the settings (long story short, got a pop up while setting it up), now screen unresponsive.
It works, I just get this blue horizontal line scanning the screen and nothing else but the power button and home button works. Tried safe mode, no bueno. How can I disable US feature without resetting to factory or at least no data wipe (if possible!)?
Android 5.0, rooted with pingpong, no custom recovery, knox 0x0.
All help is appreciated.
Same
[The exact same thing just happened to me someone please help
Fixed!
The way I had fixed this is by holding down the power button, both up and down sound buttons, and the home button until it restarted. When the device turned back on it gave the option to turn the setting off. Hope it helped!

how to turn off universal switch
hit home button 3 times
Thanks alot
It worked buddy
It doesn't give me the option to turn it off
Hi,
I have been struggling with Universal Switch on a Samsung S5 Neo. I switched it on, but was never able to switch it off again.
These are findings so far:
-> Did a factory reset using "Sound Up", "Home" and "Power" button simultaneous.
-> The device comes back and wants to configure itself again.
-> I restored my settings from Google, but this immediately brought back "Universal Switch"
-> Factory Reset again and configured the device, but told Google that I want to use it as a "New Device".
-> Now I can use my device in a proper way.
-> In Google Play Store I find all my Apps which were linked to my account and reinstalled them and I am back in business again.
-> Took me half a day to sort this out.
The programmer who designed and programmed this should be hung and shot and poisoned, because this is absolute Crapware.
Hope this helps for all the others who are suffering.
You can also push the home button three times and it should turn it off.
thank u ur the best
Ok, so i have exactly the same problem except my home button doesn't work
Anyone one know how to sort this without having to take it in to a store?
I was faced with this problem before and looked everywhere and couldnt find a fix. This was a while ago. So I dont remember what I did to clear it. I was cleaning off the screen and touched the home button as I was wiping it off and the problem began again.... I just came across your comment because all the others failed. I pressed the home button 3 times quickly and the blue lines stopped scrolling. In addition, I went over the accessibility and I turned off the "Universal Switch" option as much as the option allows. I hate this function. I do not use it or need it (for my needs). I hope I can remember what to do next time this happens. I swore to myself I would remember last time, but apparently that wasnt a guarantee. This time, I will write it down and put is somewhere I know I will find it next time I see these nefarious blue lines scrolling. Hopefully I wont see it again since I disabled it more than it was to begin with. Thank you ever so for commenting. You saved me a lot of frustration!
great fix

Why would you want less screen for your apps? Tap or swipe down to get your buttons back. I don't believe you can lock the buttons there.
Im comming from galaxy note 2 and mis having dedicated buttons. Now its one more step to access any of the home buttons. You are right about loosing some screen size if buttons are on all the time. I would like to try both ways... If not I just have to get used to it.

Found a solution that might help others..
I installed Pie Controls and not have access to home buttons and more at thumb level. This used to need root, but not any more.
Only function that need access is the back , for this in setting go to General > Accessibility scroll dows to Services and Pie is listed as Off just turn On and back button in pie control will work.
Cheers if it helps anyone.
