just got my note yesterday and it's rebooting every so often - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

anyone else have this problem? should i exchange it?

I had one random reboot today. First time though.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2

only time I ever rebooted was from undervolting.

I haven't seen any random reboots yet. Knock on wood.

Stock rooted and never had a reboot.

Did you restore anything with Titanium Backup from a phone that had a different resolution or different family of CPU?

I've had mine for 3 weeks, 1 week unrooted and 2 weeks rooted with no reboots. I would take it back! When you pay $300 for a piece of hardware, it should work properly.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium

I've had this happen 2-3 times, but it's always happened while using chrome. Anyway, it reboots SO fast that I could really care less lol

Stock root, no random reboots.

Im bone stock and I think mine had something to do with Tapatalk updating while I was using it.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2

had it since release.. no reboots...stock for one week, rooted and jellybombed now

I had CWM and installed a few roms. It never wiped the data correctly so I ended up getting reboots all day long. Installed TWRP and did a full factory reset then installed my ROM of choice. No reboots so far (been 24 hours).
Good luck

I got the phone two days ago and I've had no reboots on the phone day I got it. Today the phone reboots randomly. It's happened at least five times already. I've tried a factory reset via twrp and it still didn't help.
I'm rooted and on stock LJC. No overclock or underclock.

Haven't had a random reboot either.

Haven't had a reboot since I got it. Rooted and Jellybomb since day 1 too.

I'm stock non-rooted and have had 2 reboots as well.

Stock and never had a single reboot since launch day.

Lockups on 4.0.4

Never had one single lockup on my gn in two weeks of owning it using 4.0.2
Updated today with 4.0.4 ota and within hours i have a dead phone and wouldn't respond to anything. Had to pull the battery to reset.
Is completely stock, not rooted or unlocked.
Anyone else with issues?

If you can, I'd suggest you do a factory reset (aka wipe the /data partition). If you're willing to root, maybe wipe the dalvik cache too.
Thanks i might consider doing this if it happens more.
Though i dont see why i should need to, given it's unmodded, google sanctioned hardware running google sanctioned apps and os.
Sorry but i'm at the point of ranting, after 2 years of a wm 6 phone i thought the days of pulling the battery were long gone!
Sigh...

I have the same issue. 4.0.2 (rooted, stock) was perfect for me. There wasn't any issue with it. Now that I tried the 4.0.4 OTA update, it will do a random reboot about once daily. It is pretty annoying. Then I decided to flash the 4.0.4 factory image from google's website and then root it shortly after. The same problem exists. I don't think 4.0.4 is as stable as 4.0.2...

My phone never made it past "Android is upgrading... Optimizing applications"
Would boot up to that, screen would wash out, then go black. Pulling battery doesn't help
Hmmm, been ok since the lockup, until tonight when i just saw the google logo on the screen... was in the process of a random reboot.
I have also noticed the wifi off when sleeping option doesn't work
Shame because the battery life is a massive improvement!

Sometimes people confuse a "random reboot" with the graphical shell crashing, I'm not saying that is whats happening with you, I dont know. Just throwing it out there.
Only time I've frozen on 4.0.4 when I was testing an admittedly flawed video.

Same problem with reboots on android 4.04
i got the same problmen with reboots
The day after I uptated my galaxy nexus from 4.02 tot 4.04 it started rebooting twice a day. After a few days i did a downgrade to 4.02 and everything was fine. Yesterday I flashed android 4.04 again. Guess what? Random reboots!
Same problem. Rooted, running stock 4.0.4. Verizon must know about this by now if so many people have the problem. Where's 4.0.5?!

Mine seems to get the "sleep of death" quite often. I will be using it, shut off the screen, go to turn it back on and nothing happens. If I hold the power button in long enough it will reboot on its own. But sometimes that doesn't work and I have to pull the battery.
Running CM9 Nightly. (the one dated 4-7-12)

First hiccup in two months with my Note2!

Well, it happened, I experienced the first real freezing up yesterday. Everything just became un responsive while on a call, trying to end a call, the person I called couldn't hear me but I showed 3 bars of signal then the dialer froze up and I had to pull the battery out to restart the device. Same exact thing happened on my Mom's note2 today. I can't believe anything could cause this phone to stutter so badly. My phone is stock rooted T Mobile ROM. My mom's is totally stock.
I know all electronics can have the occasional hiccup. Anyone else have this happen? Don't get me wrong, I totally love this phone, gps is solid, navigation got me to a location in an unfamiliar area when I was a bit lost. Google maps had one place on the wrong side of the street 800 ft from it's actual location but I can't be certain if it was a clear night. There was rain in the area.
As I said first hiccup in two months.

Could you please say it again? I couldn't understand if you have a problem with your phone or not.
Sounds like a common application that is installed on both your and your Mom's Note IIs experienced a small problem. Check Notifications to see what may have updated on both phones.
Its really hard to know what causes the freezing as we install different apps everyday. It can be from some apps we just installed or from something else. Luckily for me, I haven't had anything like that since I got this in Oct. 2012. I rooted mine in December but with stock ROM and still perform as great as before.
I usually restart my phone weekly. Its just like something that I used to do in all my old phones. Maybe it helps freeing up some memory.
Some of you root the phone only to keep the stock ROM and stock Kernel, etc.
The phone really does not need it.
Unless you are looking to modify the unit by over clocking it and changing the stock ROM to something exotic, there is no need to root the Note II.
When you flash changes to the unit, there are going to be bugs and other things that pop up now and then.
I have a Sensation runing Sense 4.1, Android 4.0.1, overclocked to 1.83 Mhz, with all types of tweaks. The Note II blows it away in every way, stock.
I will not root it until there is something worth flashing.
The phone just came out a few months ago.
I am sure there is a nice ROM caming down the pipe.
I will be waiting.
I really hope I don't run into this issue with the freezing! I got the phone on release day in store and haven't had any issues thus far.
C.S.
maybe try rebooting every once in a while.... keeps things fresh... i reboot at least once a day.

[ISSUE] Random Reboots

So, I've had my new N7 for a full day now and I have had about 5 random reboots that I have noticed. Anyone else getting this? Also my calendar app isn't syncing for some reason, get the sync error. Thinking a factory reset is already in order, but just wondering if I am the only one.

Well i believe you jinxed me because shortly after reading this I had a hard reboot. I attempted to dump a last kmsg but it is not enabled in the stock kernel. I also saw that after reboot my SwiftKey was all messed up. I am rooted and unlocked. I am wondering if the way that SU is integrated into the system is what is causing these issues.

I don't think root is the cause of these reboots. My nexus 7 has rebooted twice already and it is completely stock as I have only used it for 2 hours so far. I installed both updates too.

Bought a 32gb and a 16gb on Friday. My 32 has been flawless. My wife's 16 has been getting reboots quite often. Will probably return it. Just wondering if this is a 16gb problem or is it affecting both current models?

I don't think this is a widespread issue yet. Something software wise was wonky. Battery drain was crazy, screen wasn't even showing up in the battery stats. New one has been flawless though. Crazy good battery and no reboots * knock on wood*

Thanks for the reply. Ya I am getting about an hour of screen on time per 10% battery drain. Battery exceeds expectations since it is a higher resolution screen, and a smaller battery compared to the previous generation. We found a office Max with one so we are just going to exchange the 16gb model and hope we don't get another wonky one.

Getting repeated texts...what?

Doesn't seem to matter the rom, I get text messages 2-3-4 plus times. Sometimes randomly. Ported my number from Verizon nearly a month ago.
Any thoughts? Is extremely frustrating trying to hold text convos.
Currently on wicked V4.

I had this happen to me as well, it's stopped now but I believed it to be rom/ kernel related if neither it's the sender as it's only happened from one person in particular that was running cm on a s2.. I'd do a clean install from wiping everything and going from there

I've had this issue with every touchwiz rom. It's random and sparratic but it could be a T-Mobile issue too I guess

I should have included that. It happens on touch wiz roms. Haven't tried cm.
Also happens from everyone. Regardless of verizon, att, sprint, tmobile.
So annoying lol. I have reinstalled and tried a few different roms.
Have not tried stock. Phone was rooted and modded the moment I got home from the store.

This sane thing was asked a while back. Has something to do with the port from previous carrier. Mainly from a CDMA carrier (Verizon/sprint). However, it is hit and miss, as I ported from sprint and have had zero issues. Even from all my friends on other networks. And my phone has been on almost every ROM made so far, with a multitude of mix and match kernels.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I didn't see that post. Can you link me or tell me what the fix was?
Is very frustrating. It doesn't happen at first, soon as it does it ramps up until I am getting the same text 10+ times randomly throughout the day.
Which when sending 100 texts on purpose back and forth becomes a nightmare quick.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
It may take me awhile to find it. It wasn't posted like yours. It was a question asked inside a thread totally unrelated, and someone from t mobile chinned in and said they have issues when numbers port sometimes. That it is just a waiting game until resolved.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Crap. Never mind. It was not receiving from other carriers.

I was way off. Are you using go SMS or any other 3 red party messaging app? I have seen it happen with go quite frequently. Of not, we may have to look at APN settings to see if you are using multiple, or maybe your number isn't accepting the message with an acknowledgement right away.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Ahhh gotcha. Don't have that problem.
I did at first. Thought like you did it was at fault. Had to fresh install last night, be the 2nd fresh install without installing go SMS.
Does it with the stock app.
I probably should call Tmo

It might be the battery. About three months ago I was having the same problem on the 4.1.2 stock rom, rooted, and had xposed module on it. I used the .tot files to go back to stock and I still had random reboots. Tried different roms from Cm 11 to a the e986 roms to, but continued to have the random reboots.
After a while, I realized that it was past a certain battery percent that it would reboot randomly, so I bought a refurbished battery on Amazon and have never had random reboots ever since. That's just my phone though, and a suggestion if you're have similar problems as my phone.
I will keep an eye on that. Thanks.
