Nexus 4 or Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello Guys i made my mind a few days ago to buy a tablet probably nexus 7 than i come to know that there are not many tablet optimized apps so now i want to buy a phone but confused between Nexus 4 and galaxy nexus ,, htc one x was also i my list but i cut that out as OS updates on nexus device is quicker than htc
The main problem is , in my country i cant order phone from playstore therefore the nexus 4 will cost me around $450 ~ $500.
Whereas the samsung galaxy nexus will cost around $300 ~ $320 so if you guys can tell me is there any advantage of nexus 4 over galaxy nexus (in term of apps availablity) i means if apps in android store will lag on dual core and run smooth on quad core or both can run anything smootly so if you guys please tell me i will be thankful
i am a student
wnat this for day to day purpose
maybe someday for android development.
need a camera once in a while listen songs
want battery atleast 12 hrs

if money is a factor get the gnex.. if its not get the n4

If you can afford the Nexus 4, go with the Nexus 4. Pretty much every app on the Play Store will run fine on the Galaxy Nexus except some of the NEW high end games but your need for a possible development phone, more battery life and a decent camera suggest you are better served by the Nexus 4.
You pretty much answered your own question with the "possible app development" remark because if you are doing that, you will only be left behind if you don't have the latest developer phone.

If you have the money, then get the Nexus 4. If you're short on money, save some more and get the Nexus 4.

haven't encountered a single game that won't run on gnex and I play a lot.
I prefer gnex. the glass back, LCD display, etc.... all keep me from really wanting to get the nexus 4. especially after how easily it broke in the verge review
I feel like nexus 5 will be something I'll really want

I'm sticking with the Gnex as well because of the glass and the fact that I don't really play games. The Nexus 5 or whatever its called is going to be my jewel next year.

Im just waiting nexus 5 on htc,
For now it will be better sticking with galaxy nexus,
Since many dev for the rom, it doesnt matter quad or dual for me.

guaranteed you'll see lots of broken phones after tiny little drops (which happen to all of us).
it's a stupid design.imo

I'll be sticking to my GNex. Upgrading a phone is me going from my Nexus One to a Galaxy Nexus. Going from a Galaxy Nexus to a Nexus 4 is not an upgrade imo - it's just about having the latest phone, hype, etc. There really isn't anything out there for myself that's going to get developed for me to require a Nexus 4.
Glass back? How many people are going to spend more than 10 seconds to look at the back of the phone to acknowledge it looks cool. Not worth the trouble of tip-toeing around with it so it doesn't drop and break, and I assure you many will drop their N4 and many will have broken glass. I'm surprised that the glass even broke. Isn't it supposed to be Gorilla Glass 2? I'm probably mistaken because from videos I've seen of GG2, it doesn't look like something that would crack from a subtle drop to the floor, but who knows.

it's scratch resistant not crack resistant

if you have no nexus device > nexus 4
if you have already the galaxy nexus > dont buy it

If i were you Shah.. I would go for the Galaxy Nexus.. First of all you stated your reasons of why you wanted to buy a phone + you have a little budget constraint.. The only solution to that is..buy a Galaxy Nexus...However, i do love that sexy looking Nexus 4 though, But just like ip4, etc.. it will be facing some problems with the back cracking etc.. But then again, how many of us goes around without buying a casing for our phones? And as far as gaming is concern. The galaxy Nexus can handle all the latest games so far, except for maybe tegra 3 games. Dual core phones aren't yet outdated. (you can check out reviews for Galaxy S3 quadcore vs dual core, basically the same thing) Cheers~ i hope i helped..Good luck in making your decision bro!

No one really knows if it's the blaze or the galaxy nexus. No one can say with 100% confidence one way or the other.
The Galaxy Nexus is not coming to T-Mobile anytime soon. The T-999 is the Galaxy Blaze. A Supposed Sequel to the T-989 with a 720p display.

I'm sure it's the Blaze, not the Nexus. The Blaze has been announced as the next phone to arrive to tmobile. Sorry fellas.

Would not surprise me, my inside man at T-Mobile head quarters has been playing with the nexus and note for awhile now at work. I am 100% the note will be coming out soon but similar to the release of the nexus S and be exclusive to best buy or something. Hes pretty reliable because I get inside photos from him all the time of phones that are coming out before they are even leaked.

ask your inside man for an estimated date or arrival for the gnex..and the note.
I doubt he will tell me, I asked him about the note and all he told me was to expect something on the lines of the NEXUS S. Which I interpret that it is coming out but exclusive to a vendor.
As far as the GNexus I don't know. I will try and ask him.

Not really, since all it has going for it is the 720p display with better resolution. IMO not enough to upgrade from this device.

Dammit! I wish Samsung would just sell the screens on the open market like Apple does with their IPhones.
I would love to grab a screen and upgrade my GS2 to 720p and keep it 2-3 more years
As you guys already know by now, SGH-T769 is the Galaxy S Blaze. I do not understand why they even built this phone..... It is the same as the SII (same processor & gingerbread), but only with a smaller screen (same resolution). If the point was to have a cheaper 4G (HSPA+42) phone, they missed their mark; $150 after contract is not cheap. Pointless Phone.
Will there be any hope that SGH-T999 will be top of the line? Its T-Mobile, so I am skeptical. Samsung has said it will release more info on the SIII (T999 I'm sure) this first half of the year as it gets closer to hitting the shelves. It appears that it will have an HD super amoled screen (finally!), dual 1.8 processors (hopefully that will change to quad). I also hope they will finally get a large battery, include ICS, and keep the good camera with flash.
I really hope we get something better than the Nexus, not a copy 6Months late. Maybe I am just dreaming: but wouldn't it be nice, for once, if T-Mobile had the best phone out there first?

Its a good idea, but I don't think I can pay $540 for a phone with only 16gb of internal memory (no sd slot)...
I am impressed they managed to cram 720p into 3.97". I think it'll be a nice device that hits a sweet spot for customers who don't want absolutely massive phones - many folks thought the Nexus S was just the perfect size. The operative question, though, is how long will it take to upgrade this orphan to ICS? It's really silly for them to be launching brand new model without ICS at this point.
But honestly, if an AWS device with GNex-like specs were available in the 4-4.3" size range with ICS and an active custom ROM community, I would gladly dump the Gargantuan Nexus for something that fits better in my pocket.
EDIT: The unboxing over at Android Community says it's 800x480 which makes more sense - same screen as the Nexus S more or less. So where did that 720p come from in that agent string? The Blaze is T769, not T999.
If the T999 is a GN, I wonder if there will be any actual hardware difference? I know the Japanese model is SC-04 but it's otherwise absolutely identical hardware.

Anyone purchased Nexus 7?

I know this is a galaxy nexus forum. I am curious to those who owns both galaxy nexus and 7.
I held my purchase thinking it is a blown up and faster galaxy nexus. iPad seemed easier to justify compare to iPhone due to 6 inches of screen difference. 4.7" vs 7"? It wasn't too logical.
However, I wish to have bigger screen to browse web and do some research comfortably in my bed or on my couch.
Are you happy to own both devices or feel like it was a redundant purchase?
Thanks for your inputs.

For some it's not a redundant purchase.
For me, though, I already have a laptop, a desktop, and my nexus. What's the point of having a tablet? My nexus and my laptop do everything a tablet can do in my opinion. It's a waste of money on my part - so no I didn't buy one.

Yeah between my MBP and GN I can get the most done. Its just pain to howl around 15" MBP to do some tasks that a tablet can do.
Maybe I should just save and get a MacBook air or any ultra book that is worth buying.

Same here. I have a Samsung Series 9 laptop and a GNexus phone, so there is really no point in purchasing a Nexus 7. I would like to have one, but there isn't anything I could do on a Nexus 7 that I can't currently do on my sweet phone or insanely thin and light laptop. If I had a ton of money sitting around, I would probably get one. As a broke law school student, the $200+ can be spent better elsewhere.

When did you order?? I didn't get any shipping notification yet.
No Regrets
Yes, mine should arrive tomorrow. I've been debating whether or not to get a 7 inch tablet for the past year or so, with consideration of getting a 10 incher. Once I got my Galaxy Nexus (a couple months ago), I didn't think I'd be diving into tablet territory any time soon. The price and the specs were really appealing to me so I went ahead and pre-ordered the Nexus 7.
I use the Torque app with an OBDII bluetooth transmitter to monitor information from my car. It turns out there is a perfect spot open to mount a 7 inch tablet in front of my information center on my 09 Honda Accord. This is probably one of the things I'm looking forward to most.
I've also bought a bunch of apps when they were on sale. I go through so many ROMs on my GNex and not all of my apps/games (Shadogun, Deadspace, etc) will run on my phone. This is another thing I'm looking forward to, all of the new apps and games I'll be able to use and play.
I have two friends that own Tegra 3 tablets. One has the TF300T and the other has the Prime. They seemed a little too large for my liking, but the appeal of having a device that's not always connected, therefore reducing battery drain, was a big plus for me. The added functionality of all the tablet apps is also welcomed.
For the price, you can't beat it. I doubt I'll have any regrets with the purchase.
I'm kind of with Steve Jobs on this one, the 7 inch form factor is in too much of a grey area to be worth it. Too small to be big, to big to be small.
That said, $199 is a stupidly good price.

Same here. Makes me want to cancel the order and buy at a store to avoid the $20 shipping fees.
I thought the $25 credit would only be available when ordered from the Play store.
On a side note. I picked up the N7 because I want to use it with custom firmwares and kernels.
I can't stand it if my Gnex would crash or drop calls due to a custom kernel or rom. I had that happen too many times on my old Nexus S, when there was the mute bug on some roms, you answer the phone and the other person was muted until you toggled the mute button.
Personally, I can't justify it. I already have a GNex and the Nexus 7 just seems like a slightly bigger GNex. That doesn't mean it's not a good tablet though.

Hah. Nice. So the Galaxy S4 might be released as soon as Februrary 2013 with the following rumored features (from the article):
1) A 5" SAMOLED display which may or may not be the new flexible tech. (Getting into Note territory here...)
2) Will have a quad-core exynos or qualcomm cpu
3) The design may be different for each US carrier again (bummer)
And I loved this quote :
The S4 will see some external changes but retain its popular rectangular shape with rounded corner concept,’’ said an official from one of Samsung’s local partners.

hmmmmmmmm....... I'm waiting to see what HTC would come up... Some of their designs badly need a successor... say, the HTC Desire Z, it was the last phone they made with a keyboard.... and that was about 3 years ago already.... I'm quite a fan of phones with keyboards, so I'm also gonna be interested what Samsung would put out witha keyboard... Now that I'm on the samsung bandwagon, I'm quite inclined to get a samsung phone...
but yeah, nice to see the S4 is already under development... but I'm afraid 5" of screen is too big for me already... The S3 is on a sweet spot on it's size, still fairly big for me, but does have some advantages. Meanwhile, the Note, when I saw it... it looked amazing... but simply, the screen was too big.... so I skipped it and here came the S3

The Korea Times website is just the online version of a reputable Korean newspaper. It's not sham news site like the dailynews.co.uk is with alien abductions and whatnot.
I'm holding out for the Note 5... or maybe the S6. I just can't decide.
I realize this is a totally subjective topic, but if the 5" screen size rumor holds true, this would suck moose junk in my opinion, unless the plan is to decrease bezel of current sized S3 handset to accomodate more screen.
I sold the Note to move to the S3 specifically because that phone was freakishly and totally unnecessarily gargantuan, so I hate to think that Samsung is moving that direction with the S4 also.
Again, my hope is that they bring the screen out further toward the edges on the same size handset as the S3 currently is, but if not, I think it's HTC time for me, come next Sept when I'm for upgrade.

Agreed, I was hesitant to go to the S3 because 4.8 sounded too big as my kid had a infuse 4g at 4.5...but they figured out how to make the 4.8 the same size basically as the infuse so hopefully they do this again as I just dont think I can go bigger than the S3. I would look for this to be out in June/July just like this year. I will be halfway through my contract so it wont matter much to me...

Then use bluetooth, or a headset, or speakerphone, and if you don't want to, why care what other people think for fraction of time that you hold it up to your ear? 99% of the time we're using our phones as computers, so the larger the screen the better. Sacrificing screen size to please others is retarded; not the other people you're so worried about.
^^^ This. Me.
I really hope they don't go back to different form factors. It's so easy to find accessories for the GS3.

Whoever said anything about worrying about what other people think.
I don't want a big ass phone. I'm only 5'3 and my hands are far from being the largest. If the phone was any larger then I'd have trouble holding it properly. I also just don't like the look of the larger phones. When I see the note I think to myself it is ugly because it is so big.
People other than me may find the larger size more welcome or be indifferent, I just don't want the phone to get any larger.
Can't wait till we start rockin 25 inch phones. That will awesome! Can't wait for 2023!!

Nexus 7(2013) or upcoming Nexus 5?

What do ye educated individuals think I should get? I already have a Nexus 4 and am looking for something else to tinker with. Money is an issue so I would have to sell the N4 to get the N5. I've weighed out the Pro and Cons of each device and the one thing that get me back to the Nexus 5 is that I would like to start my own YouTube channel with it. "Broke Techie With a Beard," and what a way to start off a new channel with a review/overview of a Nexus 5! I know both will get 4.4 for sure but dat screen on the Nexus 7 is very impressive. I've included a poll to help things out. Thanks guys and trolls!
I vote neither since you're broke. Keep the N4 and don't worry about something new right now.

Thanks man, I do appreciate the honesty, but I will be running into extra money in the very near future and everything bill-wise has been taken care of. Been busting my ass with work and what-not so I figure get something I like. I've always been passionate about technology and I would like to do something with it, ya know?
You can't really compare the Nexus 5 to the Nexus 7. Why? The 7 is not a phone. So ask yourself one question. Do you want a new phone or a tablet? Would you sell your Nexus 4 for a new Nexus 7? How would you make calls? Are you buying a carrier type Nexus 7? If you are thinking about that, then can you see yourself carrying a 7 in. tablet where ever you go? Hope you have big pockets.
You're comparing apples to oranges.

I understand what your saying. I do. But I'm not comparing the two, basically I'm asking which device is REALLY worth the money in everyone's opinion. Go with the N7 and start a YouTube channel with a slightly dated device with an up-to-date OS or a brand new device? Just trying to gauge people's thoughts.

Gorjira,
Like the N7 Gen I, the hardware is not the latest and greatest but it got the job done on a low price compared to the competition. Same with the Gen II, not the latest hardware but it gets the job done. I have the Gen II N7 and it is smooth and fluid with close to no lag. If you want the latest and greatest hardware then go for the Nexus 5. If KitKat 4.4 is to reduce system requirements and resources then the N7 Gen II would be super smooth and fluid and no lag. :good:
Listen to Datsun! Do you want a phone or a tablet?? You can make YouTube videos with both devices. Is it the cam that us important or what? Or do you use the device to review apps? And N7 is not a phone but there is an internet (lte) version

I was asking myself the same question. I don't care about camera, so I won't consider it in my upcoming reasoning.
I had never owned a tablet before and the ones i tried had been way to large to give me great usability. However, I wanted a new device to play around with. When I am at home i used to read on my n4 constantly, play games, flash new rooms etc. Then, I talked to a friend of mine who has the n7 2012. He advised me to get the new n7 instead of the n5 which I did. It actually does make a big difference. It sits perfectly in one hand is blazing fast and provides a great user experience in general. For me personally, i made the right choice. Upgrading to the n5 might bring a slight improvement. But it's nothing to what a tablet brings in. Especially, if you don't own one already. So I'd say go with the tablet, you won't regret it.
Cheers.

What's the next big phone?

I have been patiently waiting for something awesome to come out. I'm beginning to get annoyed by the slowness of my old GNex however and am anxious to step up to something new. Currently I am with Verizon, but with no contract.
So what is everyone else eyeing now? I was hoping to get the next Nexus (6 or whatever it will be) but there are now rumors or it being a 5.9" (HUGE!) screen and that's just too big in my opinion. I'm good up to about 5" of screen space! Who knows, I may end up just picking up a used Nexus 5!

Note 4, Nexus 6
I'd just wait for the fire sale on N5 after N6 comes out, like with N4.
