I know this is a galaxy nexus forum. I am curious to those who owns both galaxy nexus and 7.
I held my purchase thinking it is a blown up and faster galaxy nexus. iPad seemed easier to justify compare to iPhone due to 6 inches of screen difference. 4.7" vs 7"? It wasn't too logical.
However, I wish to have bigger screen to browse web and do some research comfortably in my bed or on my couch.
Are you happy to own both devices or feel like it was a redundant purchase?
Thanks for your inputs.

For some it's not a redundant purchase.
For me, though, I already have a laptop, a desktop, and my nexus. What's the point of having a tablet? My nexus and my laptop do everything a tablet can do in my opinion. It's a waste of money on my part - so no I didn't buy one.

Yeah between my MBP and GN I can get the most done. Its just pain to howl around 15" MBP to do some tasks that a tablet can do.
Maybe I should just save and get a MacBook air or any ultra book that is worth buying.
Thank you for your input

Same here. I have a Samsung Series 9 laptop and a GNexus phone, so there is really no point in purchasing a Nexus 7. I would like to have one, but there isn't anything I could do on a Nexus 7 that I can't currently do on my sweet phone or insanely thin and light laptop. If I had a ton of money sitting around, I would probably get one. As a broke law school student, the $200+ can be spent better elsewhere.

When did you order?? I didn't get any shipping notification yet.
No Regrets
Yes, mine should arrive tomorrow. I've been debating whether or not to get a 7 inch tablet for the past year or so, with consideration of getting a 10 incher. Once I got my Galaxy Nexus (a couple months ago), I didn't think I'd be diving into tablet territory any time soon. The price and the specs were really appealing to me so I went ahead and pre-ordered the Nexus 7.
I use the Torque app with an OBDII bluetooth transmitter to monitor information from my car. It turns out there is a perfect spot open to mount a 7 inch tablet in front of my information center on my 09 Honda Accord. This is probably one of the things I'm looking forward to most.
I've also bought a bunch of apps when they were on sale. I go through so many ROMs on my GNex and not all of my apps/games (Shadogun, Deadspace, etc) will run on my phone. This is another thing I'm looking forward to, all of the new apps and games I'll be able to use and play.
I have two friends that own Tegra 3 tablets. One has the TF300T and the other has the Prime. They seemed a little too large for my liking, but the appeal of having a device that's not always connected, therefore reducing battery drain, was a big plus for me. The added functionality of all the tablet apps is also welcomed.
For the price, you can't beat it. I doubt I'll have any regrets with the purchase.
I'm kind of with Steve Jobs on this one, the 7 inch form factor is in too much of a grey area to be worth it. Too small to be big, to big to be small.
That said, $199 is a stupidly good price.

Same here. Makes me want to cancel the order and buy at a store to avoid the $20 shipping fees.
I thought the $25 credit would only be available when ordered from the Play store.
On a side note. I picked up the N7 because I want to use it with custom firmwares and kernels.
I can't stand it if my Gnex would crash or drop calls due to a custom kernel or rom. I had that happen too many times on my old Nexus S, when there was the mute bug on some roms, you answer the phone and the other person was muted until you toggled the mute button.
Personally, I can't justify it. I already have a GNex and the Nexus 7 just seems like a slightly bigger GNex. That doesn't mean it's not a good tablet though.

I went ahead and ordered one. Comes tomorrow. I love the 7in form factor more than tge 10 inch tablets. Tge bigger tabblets just seem so bulky and hard to carry on the go. I am selling my nook tablet and laptop to pick one up.

I own a GN but also have a Nexus S and a mint HTC G1.
I don't use the NS nor the G1, they just stay in the wardrobe, but I've always wanted to have a "collection" of phones. Now I have three I'm now thinking of what use they are and the value won't increase so what's the point ...
The GN does everything I need from a phone.
Would you sell the NS and G1 or hold on to them? My only niggle at the moment is I want an android tablet and need some funds.
Thanks

You won't get much for a G1. Ironically, I still see people selling them for around $100 but I'd never buy one at that price. You can look to get $250-300 tops for your Nexus S. I wanted a phone collection too but decided that money over weighed having the collection. If you need cash and want a tablet, selling is probably your best bet. Just curious... what tablet were you wanting?

Well, I keep changing my mind. I wanted a Motorola Xoom but then the Asus T Prime came out so I wanted that. However, the prices are steep and I really don't know if its worth getting the latest android tablet (which is strange for me because I always have the latest phone). I just want something for movies and web browsing. I'm not really fussed about quad cores for gaming...BUT don't want to get a honeycomb tablet if its not getting ICS. I've seen the new Toshiba Excite etc but its a bit of a minefield...would welcome some suggestions but worried we are going off topic somewhat in a GN forum
Back to the phone collection - its looking like I might have to sell but the OCD part of my brain is saying have the collection. Its unfortunate I need the funds and having them tied up in something I'm not using seems silly if it means I go without something I want.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I usually sell for the quick cash. I keep my nexus one has backup and because its a colkectors phone. But sold my atrix.
Sell them while they're still worth something. I always keep one of the newest that I actually liked as a backup just in case. Gives you a bit more strength to mod when you have a backup plan.
If I were you I'd keep the G1 and sell the Nexus S. You should still get good money for the Nexus because of the recent Update to 4.0.3
I would keep one of them on hand as a backup. You might be in a position where your SGN dies, outside of the contract window, but you are waiting for something else to come out. Would be nice to have the option of going to a backup phone without having to pay for something to get you through to the next release.

I don't like the Xoom since it's screen is pretty washed out as opposed to the Transformer Prime. I like the look of the Toshiba Excite (and owned the Thrive) and expect Toshiba to do pretty well with updates. Hell, wait until the Asus Memo comes around and you'll have a quad core tablet for $249. I'm trying to hold out for it or I will jump on the Galaxy Tab 7.7

I usually sell/give away all my phones when I move on. Except for my G1. That is the grand daddy of all android phones and so i am keeping mine. I would suggest you do the same.
I owned both the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus at one point but had to let go of the Nexus S due to necessity. If I could, I'd collect all the Nexus line of smartphones.
I remember when I first held the Nexus S in my hand, the phone felt like a cute toy compared to my Galaxy Nexus, but i still miss The Little Train that Coukd.

OK after much deliberation I have decided to sell the NS and keep the G1.
The G1 is in pristine condition, like new, much better than my GNS so thought it best to keep the grandaddy!
The NS is on ebay and is ending tomorrow, currently at £97 with 36 watchers and 21 hours to go...
Now trying to decide on that tablet, I don't know what to get. I suppose its all about the look of the tablet and the internals because it WILL get rooted and run ICS so the OS is not important.
I would like to wait for the rumored Nexus tablet but we must be talking at least a Oct/Nov 12 release. I want one now!
wait for the transformer prime tf700t it's going to have 1920x1200 resolution and hopefully fix the wifi issue with the current prime. it's suppose to be release 2nd quarter so it should be soon.
That does look good!
I've decided to go for a Kindle Fire and root to put CM9 on. Use it for 6/7 months and hopefully by then the Nexus tab (or similar) will be announced. The Kindle hasn't cost me anything as the NS just sold for £185, which means I can save my money for later this year.
I can't warrant the price tags of quad core tablets at present.

So you would have to pay him $100 to get the Note? No chance. What makes the Note worth $100 more than the Nexus? Samsungs amazing TouchWiz UI or their lazy update procedure?
Phone for phone without any payment could be acceptable for someone who is ok with that.
But then I wouldn't even take the Note if he was paying me $100, so I'm biased.
Nope , don't do it ..
Now if the $100 wasn't in the picture then it would be a decision worth thinking about or if he was giving you the $100 =P

Straight up trade or nothing and that's only if you think you could find use out of the Note. I know quite a few store owners who love it especially for their online sales as they can just take pictures of products and doodle on it and send it out to prospective customer.
My father's colleague, who's a Apple guy, switched to a Note also for simply one reason; He could have the text large enough to use it without his glasses on .
There are use cases for the Note for sure, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it like most on here would .
On that note, I wouldn't use one personally as again, it doesn't fit my use cases.
Don't do it, especially if you like rooting and such.
Not sure Samsung ironed out the brick bug, but it's not the device to have if you want to run anything other than stock. Even doing a factory reset was bricking them. Ridiculous.
I wouldn't do it either. Just because something retails for more money doesn't mean it is actually worth more. Then Nexus is a better phone, period.
SGN is a super nice gadjet , but Nexus is the most compatible with android , if it was me , I'll *****slap him with his 100 buks and keep my phone. but this is me, maybe you have a different opinion
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
He should be paying you $100 plus the note to begin with, if you do it not only has he ended up with the better phone but he's robbed you $100 , just because the note retails for more new doesn't mean its the better device, look at the iPhone for example its inferior to the nexus but still costs more.
Keep your Nexus, it's still the backbone of Android.

When i thought to buy a new phone, the first on the line was the Note. So i went to stores do "meet" it. First look, i feel disconfortable by its size and start looking other phones, so i saw the Nexus and it was love at the first sight. When i held it in my hand, i knew that i´ll be my phone.
It fits perfectly.
Today i think that if i bought the Note i was regret. Not only because the size, but the OS updates and customizations.
Keep your Nexus and be happy for the rest of it´s days.
(sorry for the english)

I have both and if its the ATT version its worth it. The dev support over there isnt bad and once you get used to the size, which I did very quickly, I don't even use the nexus anymore as the screen is so much more vibrant. Just slap on an AOSP rom and it turns the note into a great phone/tablet.

In my opinion the only S3 worht having is the international version as the US versions have been nerfed as they usually are by us carriers.
As to the OP keep your Nexus, I have friends who have the Note and they love it but development on it is nonexistant in comparison to the Nexus, heck my old Vibrant has more development going on right now.
I ended up smashing my Samsung Galaxy at the gym two days ago. I bought it in May 2011 and it has been such a sweet device. Instead of getting the phone repaired I thought I may as well just buy a new one. I have been keeping a close eye on the speculation for the conference next week and I've been doing some research on Androids offerings. Please keep in mind I am a university student and whilst I am prepared to spend quite a bit on a new unlocked, device, $500 is more-or-less my limit. 16gb of storage is fine for me too. I have an iPod touch for my music. (keep in mind i'm in Australia).
Option 1: Nexus 4. If the rumoured specs on the LG Nexus are true, and the price is below $500 this would be my first preference.
Option 2: Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Typically because I love the true google experience. I had CM10 and Slim Bean ROMs on my SGS1 before it broke. This is more-or-less $330 online for the 16gb version. Big advantage of having quick, direct Android OS updates too.
Option 3: Samsung Galaxy S3. This is a monster phone, the only thing that concerns me is the size of the phone, especially once a protective cover has been added to it. I can be a little bit reckless and would prefer to keep a cover on it. The specs on this are insane, however the price is around $470 (for 32gb) and I am very hesitant to root the phone this time round. I am also not the biggest fan of touchwiz.
I have also kept in mind that the prices of SGS3 and the GNex are likely to drop after the new phones are unveiled. I am really looking for experiences that people have with these two phones as well. Complaints and recommendations would be great!
Cheers

I bought my Gnex very recently, was hesitating with SGS3 and the 2 things that made me chose Gnex over SGS3 are :
- price (well i sometimes act rational)
- that awful glossy plastic of SGS3
I'll definitively have a look at LGN4 but if I go on being reasonable, I'll keep my Gnex and buy a Nexus tab instead...
I would get the galaxy nexus again. I personally love this phone so much and don't care that its getting out dated. I see myself using it for at least the next year (just got it a month ago from the play store). But that being said I would hold out if possible as the price may drop when the new nexus hits.

EDIT: If the LG Nexus is revealed as expected with all the rumoured specs, should I be worried that the battery is not replaceable? I've seen so many people with iPhone battery issues but then again this isn't Apple.
I don't think you will have much issues with your battery. I have never had any issues with my battery's on any of my phones (including gnex, dinc, and gs3). The only thing I would be worried about with the battery is if the phone locks up you can't pull the battery, but I am pretty sure you can hard reset it with volume + power.

Hmm thanks. Hopefully the phone is reasonably priced to buy unlocked!
I'm planning on getting the GNex very soon. I could care less about outdated hardware, as I've spent the last two years on a KIN device (A weird pre-Windows-Phone Windows Phone) and an LG EnV3. The GNex has the added benefit of always getting immediate OTA updates, and when the time comes (And it will come... ) to start playing, I know I have a fabulous development community to immerse myself in and hopefully contribute to. The user experience ALWAYS outweighs an edge in hardware.
Also, price is a huge deal for me, as I'm on a student budget. I can't run around and drop $200-300 on some shiny new toy that came out, when I drop similar moneys on a monthly basis to get to school and back. So yes, the fact that I can get a LTE Galaxy Nexus for $30 off of Amazon and continue my Verizon contract is a fairly big selling point for me.
That being said, if Verizon were to get the new Nexus device and it happened to be reasonably cheap (Say, $100 or below) then I would likely shell out for that. However, those chances are slim to none, so I reckon I'm safe.
Hope this helps.

I'm thinking it'll probably stay on at $300 or so if that Nexus 4, if the rumors are true, is even offered on the Play store off contract. I purchased my Gnex early August and couldn't be happier.
same thing that happens on every device, price will drop like crazy. Let's face it, most of the people here will probably get the new Nexus device. This one will get old, outdated, and eventually will be "left out". Still this phone is one of the best phones that i have used. A good balance between performance, hardware and most importantly the budget.

why would it get old and outdated? phones on the nexus line receive updates for a while..at 1.2 dual core and 1 gb ram it should be ok for quite a while
i get that people will always buy the latest and greatest (i'm also looking to get the nexus 4 when it drops) but the great thing about the nexus is that we get a pure experience AND updates..you can't future proof your phone any better than by purchasing a nexus

The price will definitely drop but this is still a great phone that is plenty fast and will continue to have support from developers.
Delayed Gratification Will It Pay Off
For months and months I've been itching to get an android phone. Late last year I came across Republic Wireless offering a $19/mo plan for everything on its Beta program of Wifi utilization and Sprint's cellular service. Recently I was invited to purchase the Motorola Defy and sign up. Republic ran into a problem with the Defy only being a single band phone and is now testing the dual band Defy. At $249 it seems overpriced for a device that's fast becoming outdated. That sent me searching again and led me to the Galaxy Nexus and prepaid. Seemingly no one has a bad thing to say about the gnexus. So I've been itching to buy and go with T Mobile or Straight Talk here in Madison WI.
But I'm cheap and love a bargain. I want the Gnexus. I can pick one up today for $340 from swappa with lots of extras. On the other hand Google could reduce the price on the brand new tomorrow (before Sandy screwed that up). What to do? Shall I sit still or jump in today?
I would think it would be the perfect time to buy a Galaxy Nexus. As soon as the Nexus 4 comes out, the price will drop.
From the leaks I've read, they don't seem THAT much different, especially since the galaxy will most likely get Android 4.2.
Gnex is pretty decent performer and will be a good option for budget conscious buyers in the coming few months. I expect the prices to reach around $300 very soon.

Looks like not much reason to get the Galaxy Nexus now that the Nexus 4 was announced for $299!

Where Did the Nexus Go
It's no longer available at the Play Store.
I really hope it drops in price....seeing the Nexus 4 at the EXACT same price as the Galaxy Nexus was until yesterday though kinda makes you jealous...on the one hand..I have the urge to put it for sale on Ebay to get money for the Nexus 4 but on the other hand, the Galaxy Nexus already has so much development for it (PGM, awesome kernels like Franco etc, Firefox OS) that you would have to (temporarily) give that all up until devs get their hands on the new device and port it all over to the new Nexus 4.

It will get 4.2... that's one of the reasons many people by the GNex in the first place - we always get the updates! ^_^

The GNex is $50 w/2year. I just bought mine last week and that's what I paid.

Just hoping to get some thoughts for or against the note 2 in regards to the press release regarding the nexus 4 with very similar specs going to sell for $350 out of contract.
I have to say my mind was blown, to have official updates as they roll out, and being able to have a large library of roms to choose from is a major selling point for me.
Looking to possibly keep the note 2, but I really am on the edge of my seat... thoughts about nexus 4/note 2 would be greatly appreciated.
I paid the same as you and I have no regrets. The Nexus looks to be an awesome device but the Note 2 is in its own category - are you forgetting that? And do I have to remind you about our amazing 5.5" RGB screen? I repeat, no regrets! I frickin love this thing.
Great specs and price on the nexus 4. I thought it would run about $450 at least for the phone with those specs.
I haven't got my note 2 yet but I am seriously considering getting the nexus 4 instead.

It is a beautiful screen, cant deny that Im just having trouble digesting the fact I could buy both the tablet and the phone for under $700... I could even eat the $50 restocking fee and still afford both... :/
Does anyone know where the cost are going?
Are devs jumping on the Equinos bandwagon?
I am thinking about the same thing. I love the screen and size, but I am not a fan of the smooth back. It feels like I am about to drop it bc its so slippery. I feel as if I am holding a priced possession rather than a phone. I have noticed myself being extra careful bc of the back and I don't want that. I wish the back had some kind of traction for grip. I am seriously thinking about returning this and buying a Nexus 4. And don't forget we can get a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 10 for what we paid for note 2.

I personally am going to try to push the return policy till almost the last day (14 days) So I can hear some early reviews on the nexus 4. I dont mind sticking with the note 2, but the true multi-tasking feature has not even been released yet (patiently waiting for samsung to update, never done that before)..... and that was kind of a huge setback for me.

Yes, you can buy both devices for less than $700 but then of course you have two devices. If that does not matter to you, I say go for it. I sold my iPad and GS3 to downsize to a single device. So far I am loving it.
btw IF I do decide to return the note 2, I am sure as hell going to miss the pop out video player. I am in love with that.
LG... lol after my g2x I learned my lesson. No thanks. Even if they paid me

I'm thinking about returning my note 2 too. I believe it's 30 days if you buy it at full price.... Could be wrong though

I bought it off-contract as well, at full price, but I still think it's only 14 days.
The S-Pen should be a major factor when buying a Note 2. If you are simply using it as a phone or web browser, I think your original purchase of a Note was the problem. If you paid $700 for a product that will help you be more productive, then it's money well spent. If you paid $700 for a toy... not sure what that makes your money, just know it's not well spent.
Notes are productivity investments, tis why the Note 1 still sells for well over $500 new. If you define the word "need" for yourself, you will never have to worry. (side note, the current Nexus can't be beat when it comes to Dev support, and it's cheaper still... so there's that)
I'm actually very surprised at the high amount of people from this forum, that jumped so fast on the note 2 before Google announced what they were bringing out. ( official specs, not speculation)
The question is..... Is removable memory, bigger screen, spen, worth double, not to mention the wireless charging?
I have a g tab 2.7, and like Samsung.
I do miss the amoled screen of my N1 though.

I just wish I could buy a Nexus type back cover. Something with a little grip. I don't use/need cases, just need a back cover with grip. Is that too much to ask? lol
