T-Mobile 4G Unlimited Throttled - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hey, I just moved to US and bought a T-mobile Galaxy S III with Unlimited 4G.
I rooted the phone and used the APN trick (From WarlockW)
Everything went fine, and I was using the User Agent on Google Chrome (As a Android browser)
The speed was like 5-15 mbps , and now it is like 0.02-0.1 mbps. I know that I used alot of data (something around 14,5gb I guess)
The 4G signal is quite good, and still the same at it was when I got 5-15mbps
Does anybody else have this problem, and what should I do?
Thanks guys, looking forward to some feedbacks

I, too, have been getting "throttled" 4G speeds as of late.
I'm a heavy user (~20-40GB/mo), and I see my 4G get "throttled speed" where my 4G icon shows FULL 1/2 of the month.

A few hours ago signed my life away with T-Mo for two S3's, Are you saying 4G icon and your speeds are full speed for 1/2 the month?
Curious on you on a tethered plan or the new unlimited?

Im on TMO's new unlimited (no data cap) 4G plan. I switched over to TMO the month before they announced their new unlimited 4G. So to say, I was VERY excited.
The first month was fine (september). october, was a little sketchy. for a good week, my data dropped in speed significantly. This month, worst. I can't seem to stay on 4G speeds. Maybe its the rain in my area? Or the influx of new customers jumping into the unlimited plan overloading TMO's traffic? Who knows....
Im close to calling in and asking them why my data is so freakishly slow for the past 2 weeks now...

Definitely call them and complain. And tell them to reset it for you.

I was having the same problem so I called Tmobile. They checked for tickets in my area and within a 10 mile radius, they informed me of the network modernization happening in my area. Go to airportal.de and see if they was any 1900mhz HSPA discovered in your area.

Add me to the list of getting "throttled" watching YouTube on my phone and ran a speed test right before, 220kB/s which is awesome for I don't get 4g here. After about an hour of YouTube it started to buffer like every minute. Ran a speed test and only got 90kB/s and it had to have been me getting throttled. It's happened before and I called and complained they fixed it but now it's starting again. I'm getting really annoyed.

Correct, Tmo offers different plans the tether plan does NOT offer truly unlimited 4G speeds and vice versa if I'm not mistaken: D

Ran a speed test last night around midnight:
Download: 0.39Mbps
Upload: 0.01Mbps
Ping: 517
Then I ran a few tests a few minutes ago this morning:
Download: 6.98Mbps
Upload:0.28
Ping:902
Im calling them. Im at FULL 4G bars here in San Francisco.

I would say lately, I have been using my 4G less since it's getting colder outside, and I'm indoors with wifi. I haven't gotten throttled lately, but I feel that the network has been slower than my normal speeds too. I can't compare to what I had before since I didn't think to save a screenshot from before, but I wonder if having too many people using the service simultaneously also is dropping the speeds.

Hey guys, thought I'd give my input. I'm at 15GB usage this month, both my gf and I are getting 15mbps (par for the course around here).
Maybe they're just temporary dips in service?

I wish they were temporarily dips in service. But I haven't been getting anything CLOSE to 15mbps this month. Just ran a test just now and I got 0.09Mbps. This test was ran after I called customer service and them explaining why:
"Due to your location, it is best to be outside for better data service." [But I have full 4G bars inside the house. I never experienced this for the first month with you guys in my house.] "Im sorry to hear that sir, but like I said, due to the frequencies the towers are giving and the combination of your location being indoors, it is best to be outside for better service." [So to say, I should put my bed OUTSIDE while I browse my data hogging phone?] "I'll fill in a ticket for an engineer to contact you."
Total bee es.

Call and immediately ask to speak to a supervisor, tell them you have full signal but the actual speed is crap and it's not "faster and more dependable" as they claim and ask for a credit on your account for the month. This method landed me $20 off my bill. Good luck!

This is also what happened in my area. They don't throttle the truly unlimited.

For the ones getting throttled do you guys have the true unlimited 30 buck plan?
Also keep in mind during the day and rush hour periods, data will be slow because everyone is getting off work/school

they cannot legally throttle you if they are claiming it and advertising it to be unthrottled, class action law suits up the *** ...... furthermore, it is all coincidence, all of it. if you are on the unlimited 4g, your 4g is exactly that, unlimited, and unthrottled.
i burned through 80 GB of 20 MB/s data last month..... yes, 80......
so yeah, case clossssed

+1, see what plans you have. I just got the cheapest family plan they had which has 2gb of full speed 4g and after that unlimited edge/gprs speed. I really dont need unlimited 4g cause i have wifi at home and at work.

Looking forward to forcing roaming and dumping Sprint even though I love my ET4G

As much as I love my Epic Touch 4G, I won't miss Sprint's crappy data speeds one bit. I've never gotten even to 1mbit download speeds in any state I've travelled to. I work in Los Angeles (Downtown, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Century City, Brentwood, Westwood, Malibu, Gardena...) and I've never got one full mbit of download speeds any place I've travelled to in California, Connecticut, Texas, Nevada... So I don't think it is just once city that I'm paying for bad service but every place I need service.
I'm looking forward to breaking my contract with Sprint by forcing a Verizon PRL on my phone. I won't feel in the least bit guilty as in my opinion Sprint is throttling my data speeds every place I go and they claim they are delivering 4G but my phone can't ever stay connected with 4G. When it does actually stay connected to 4G for a couple of minutes I've never gotten more than 600k. I've tested other ET4Gs - all get the same speed where I need them to get good speed.
This video got me stoked (not because I want to replace my phone, just my crappy provider).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySymqERaHEA&feature=player_embedded#t=21s
I've never even downloaded 1 GB in a month of data so a 2GB plan with unlimited minutes will give me more minutes and much faster download speeds for the same price as I've given Sprint for so many years.
The Galaxy Nexus is a nice phone from what I can tell but it isn't the phone that makes me want to switch carriers, it is just Sprint that is driving me away.
Your so cool.
You know about PRL and how to do fancy stuff to your phone....wow
I wish I was like you.
Actually I wouldn't know how to force the PRL but for the HELPFUL people on this forum who post tips on things like this.
So again, I'd like to thank the people on this forum who help me get the most out of my phone!

I'm currently doing this exact same thing. I have forced roaming on the phone and have been roaming since Friday all day long, but I just found out today about prl 1115 and roaming on 3g Verizon. will definitely have to do that tonight and hopefully I will be able to leave this terrible company in no time.

No that is why I'd switch my PRL so they cancel my contract. Otherwise I'd just cancel my contract outright if the ETF was the same.
Lets be honest though, data isn't really up to par with T-Mobile or Verizon maybe. But they offer unlimited data and thats the only reason I'm still on it. 5gb cap from T-Mobile was not enough for me. Also don't we get charged for roaming?

I certainly understand people sticking with Sprint if they get good service.
In my area it is barely usable and I'd rather be offered a 50 gallon drum of water for a month than get all the water I can carry home as long as I only take it home one teaspoonful at a time. I average about .35mbit download speeds in all the areas I visit (some a little higher, some a little lower) and I've yet to lock onto strong 4G signal. One of the few times I locked was at LAX where I got about .8mbit download. I'll torrent on my cable where I get about 30mbit down so I don't exactly need that much data on my phone.
No charge for roaming on my contract. And I only average about 500-1000 megs per month so Verizon's 2Gbyte plan will leave me with PLENTY of headroom (I realize they have larger plans but 2 will be save me money and give me plenty of headroom).
Awsome another "Im leaving sprint" announcement thread. How many of these have I seen already? You forgot to say at the end how android sucks and your getting an iPhone.
T-mobile has the sgs2, I'd grab that one or the sensation XL.
Im debating doing the same thing, but I'll end up paying more for less incentives in the end.
if you were more of a data monger i would suggest you to wait it out for sprint to upgrade all its towers and switch to LTE because i believe we can be grandfathered into unlimited data. fortunately i recently got a tower upgrade in my area. i honestly used to get score btwn ~23kb to 200kb, but now im getting ~1mb down which is insane (lol) and all i ever need to perform the daily routine
check this out. you can search the cities you are in and see if they have any plans to upgrade towers near you
https://network.sprint.com/search/los+angelos,+Ca/
also, have you tried contacting Sprint about this? being a long-term customer they usually bend to your will if you call and complain to a manager, just threaten to cancel. they might let you off your contract hassle-free or at least give you some cash money towards ur bills until you drop them or something. i would give it a shot being that youre determined to leave anyway
hope this helps! and best of luck with whatever you decide to do

Thanks. Sprint has been telling me for years that either they are upgrading towers in my area so that is why it is slow, they are having a problem with a tower in my area so that is why it is slow or just wait a month or so as they will be upgrading towers in my area. "I ain't fallin for no banana in my tailpipe again".
I agree, I will ask to leave nicely but I doubt Sprint will let me off just because they have crappy data service.
It is my fault for sticking with Sprint for so long, I have no one to blame but myself. I'll miss this phone as it is a great phone but in the 20 cities I've tried it in (switched it once so far) none of them gave me good speed. I had the 3D before this and while it got slightly better speed it still sucked compared to what other carriers are delivering.
there is absolutely no reason i got better service 3 yrs ago with my iphone 3g, 2 years ago with my nexus one, and this past year with my fascinate and nexus S on cricket, than this crap ass slow sprint 3g internet. I get over 8 mbs close to here on 4g, but not at home, nor anywhere in my hood. so i'm bout to roam the **** out of them and dip ... i cant stand slow 3g, this was the reason i got a nexus one in the first place, tired of slow edge speeds with iphone on tmobile... i might as well have a iphone on sprint since they get all the 3g bandwidth i hear... terrible terrible shame, because i absolutely love the device and a galaxy nexus with CRAP OMAP is not appealing, i'm basically just going to flash it to boost or cricket if they can't do any better with the 3g. its retarded slow ... like 69 kb on sprint tower, 300-500 on vzw
EDIT: and on cricket I was getting 800 down consistently 1mb some other places and this was including at home. So why does cricket have better towers in this area? who cares... they do.

I did this recently with us cellular. I didn't change prls but I moved out of their service area. I got a threatening letter that I violated my contract and when I cancelled I was told I had to pay a prorated etf. I wasn't too impressed :X

I sincerely hope that by the time you do that, Sprint changes their policies and charges you for every abusage KB you use.
If you can't handle adult agreements, don't enter into one.
If Sprint is not providing the service that is written in the contract then be an adult and have the ETF waived.
Either way, grow up.

Thinking about abandoning my SGS2 on ATT for Sprint

I'm on ATT with an SGSII right now and get ****ty data performance. Voice isn't that much better. I get like 1 - 2 Mbit download speeds, and the phone is capable of something like 18Mbit. I'm thinking about making the move to Sprint. Anything I should know? Anyone using an Epic 4G Touch in the SF Bay Area?
As far as data goes, you'll most likely not get those speeds on Sprint (as far as 1-2 Mbit) but just like anything YMMV (a lot here complain about their data speeds and they don't even get close to those speeds).
But to my knowledge, the AT&T version gets way more support in development due to it being GSM like the international SGS2, so ports are easier and what not. So if you like rooting you'll probably miss that.
If data speeds are your primary reason, then do not switch. There's a very good chance that your speeds would be even worse with Sprint. They're working on it, but their data network sucks right now.

relative to where you are, i great great 3g and 4g speeds.
just like any other cell phone provider.
To the OP. I would say go buy one and test it out first in the places you go daily. I have no issues at all where I am with call quality or data speeds. Also the simply everything plan cant be beat.
However, as stated, the ATT version gets, MUCH more dev support because its GSM, and it will likely get updates first.
BUT, it is great to have the extra .2 of in inch on the screen and also to have an LED for notifications
On sprint, you will get 1-2 Mbit MAX download speeds. In almost every case, less than that.
If you have wimax in your area, then you could get anywhere from 5-15 Mbit (it varies greatly, and depends on signal strength). Most of the time when you're indoors you won't get great 4g signal strength.
If you consistently use more than 2gb of data per month, then sprint is a decent option, or verizon if they are still doing double data deals.
Last I heard sprint recently improved in SF bay area, so you may have good results.
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/sp...coverage-in-san-francisco-bay-area-2011-12-08
Sprint is also cheaper than AT&T, and many employers offer discounts for sprint.
If speed is your concern in good 4g areas all my tmobile friends get 15mb /2mb on thier sgs2
I have the sprint one i usually get 300kb-800kb/500kb in the day time
at night(2am-6am) 1000-13000/ 800-1000kb
I'm about to switch because of the throttling that att is about to start doing. Grandfathered into unlimited, but they don't like us using more than 5gb.
sent from my ppc through win97 servers bypassing exchange security
If speed is something you desire, two words:
Don't
(see what I did there?)
As a 13 year Sprint customer, I have to say that I've never been more disappointed with their service. My 3G speeds have been terrible, and inconsistent on top of it (from bad to worse). I cannot in good conscience recommend that anyone switch to Sprint at the moment.
Hopefully they'll fix whatever's been broken for the last 60 days or so (and it could just be the iPhone effect), and I'll be able to once again recommend Sprint. At the moment, not so much...
I miss att i got the epic 4g touch and wish i was still on att. I would trade you if you switch i had good att speeds in union city ca 94587.

I would not switch for data speeds. This is what I get right next to a tower at work. Granted I get maybe 250kbs at home, but I never get more than 40kbs while at work, sometimes like 10-15kbs. And its a heavily populated area. they are doing upgrades, or so they say.
Here's an overview of my last speed runs, not impressive...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Yeah, for your own sake, do not switch just for the data speeds, not worth it, anything else Sprint is good.
Depends on where you are. I'm in Charlotte NC and Sprints data sucks ass. In the Northeast from Baltimore to New York is crazy fast especially in D.C. I been up there and sad to come back to slow molasses ass data. Thank god for wifi. Try the Epic Touch for two weeks and then decide.
4g from my house.

I advise going to the Sprint store where you live and testing data speeds on the floor phones.
Then, if it's satisfactory, you always have 14 days if things change depending on other areas to travel frequently.
It really isn't helpful to you if someone that's on the other side of the country is telling you about their data speeds.
All carriers, even Verizon, vary based upon area.
As far as with the Epic Touch, make sure it's up to date so you don't have any LOS issue and you'll love the phone.
You really have to get one and try from home, work, etc and remember you only have 14 days to return. Here are some average marks for me...middle of the pack tests. 4g on different server about 150 miles away. That's why I have high ping...

Lmao. Visit the sprint section before you think of it. May as well go to Verizon because you won't be happy with sprint data speeds at all. Ps winmax kills your battery something fierce
Around here Sprint has been sucking, but, I've tried Verizon recently...Sprint is actually extremely competitive with Verizon (3g) data speeds around here these days. I thought Sprint sucked around here, it ends up the grass is, in fact ,always green on the other side....in fact, it is actually as green and often greener on the Sprint side.
Is my point to OP that Sprint is good for his purposes? Lol. No, far from it. In fact quite the opposite. I could switch to AT*T for cheaper than my Sprint line (for tiered data, guh) but much much better data rates, or Verizon for better coverage and only slightly more expensive...but...I haven't. Why? When the meat hits the metal I've got something that is already great for me (acceptable speeds, relatively speaking) and have something I would hate to lose (unlimited data).
I think from the sound of OP that he has something that is great for him (can live with his tiered or throttled data) and has something he would hate to lose (2-4+mbps data rates).

Sprint data... worse lately?

Has anyone else noticed just how much slower sprint is lately? I mean, we all knew that they've began having major issues last year, but now, seems worse. I literally can't get above .15mbps on any of my three phones. That's in most of the Denver/Aurora area. Before it was slow, now it is just not usable.
The only excuse Sprint ever has is the network vision, but really? I'm pretty fed up with this dial up.

Damn, I know in Atlanta it is rather bad as well.
Just hard to remain optimistic, specially knowing that the unlimited model, while nice, isn't going to help with speed. Just too many people can abuse the already suffering network. While limits suck, they really force people to watch their data use, or pay for higher usage.

I checked out tmobile prepaid, and prepaid just makes more sense seems like. Yea, you pay full retail price if you want a nice phone, but you don't need to pay any hidden upgrade fees, or weird surcharges sprint has, nor is it as expensive. And I can't speak for everyone, but I honestly don't see network vision doing anything but allowing sprint catch up to the point where most others are already at, except for years later. And if they keep this unlimited model going, I only see the network continuing on suffering. Sure, Lte would be nice and the fact that all new high end sprint phones are lte capable. Unless you're in major 6 markets though, yore stuck on crawling 3g till at least 2014, that's when they plan to roll out lte here in Colorado, not to mention it will only be the initial roll out, only among major highways, even spottier than wimax.

The thing I've noticed about CD a devices is that they don't drop calls nearly as often as GSM models do. I've noticed this with several devices amongst my family. I'm not saying cdma is immune to it, just that they tend to transfer from tower to tower better.
With that in mind, I'd probably go to Verizon if I switched... but I can't stand the amount of things they will charge you for. They charge to block numbers, GPS, etc. T-Mobile sounds ideal as far as pricing goes but if GSM drops calls often then I'm not too sure.
A few months ago i was on cricket with the og epic, i was tired of they crappy service so i was looking to switch. Sprint grabbed me with their truly unlimited data. Guess i should of researched speeds as well =/ but i have hopes for sprint, im stuck with them for 2 years and network vision should (hopefully) hit buffalo ny by then. if i dont get a significant increase in data quality i will most defiantly go with verizon. They may be a bit more expensive but hey, the phrase "you get what you pay for" may apply here

Really?! I prefer GSM over CDMA any day. Unless, we are talking about CDMA-Advanced. My reasoning is the whole data speed aspect. With GSM, your 3G speeds are much better due to HSPA and HSPA+ technology. On Sprint, have you ever seen speeds over 2.5mbps in an excellent coverage area with no network load? The max CDMA network that Sprint has can go is 3.2, which is theoretical. TMobile HSPA+21 network can reach 10-12mbps without many issues. HSPA+42, 19-25 in my area during off hours. Verizon CDMA, while much more consistent, isn't much faster than Sprint.
I understand your argument with dropped calls, but I actually have found the opposite to be true. I have less dropped calls while on the go on my T-Mo company phone (GNexus), vs any of the Sprint devices I have. And that is among same area. I am guessing our experiences differ due to coverage in respectable states.
Sprint was good here for a week or less when NV was apparently being worked on in my area.. now it is even worse than before! I'm not sure what they did to the nearest towers but everyone I know around complains lately that their signal inside their house is worse and not as reliable. I've been considering jumping ships to a different carrier, perhaps the T-Mobile prepaid plan... considering I only use like 40 mins a month and only need dependable fast data on the good. Sprint better hope LTE and NV starts working here in the L.A area

I used to hit around 1 Meg in the morning. From this speed it drops into nearly single digits throughout the day.
My 3g speeds have gotten cut in half in San Diego this month. I don't even know what its like using the 4G option on this phone which leaves me a little bitter at this point. In fact, listening to others talk about 4G in their areas feels like a series of short stories, wise tales, and mere fables. I'm probably gonna switch to T-mobile once the GS3 drops next month since they are finally getting a decent phone line up. I'm getting tired of the emasculating feeling of begging my girlfriend for data as she hits the WIFI tether Icon of her Verizon unlimited droid all the while knowing that the 4G option in my notification bar is simply a useless battery draining light.
Ans I thought I had it bad lol. The funny thing is that I can take my tmobile phone ans my sprint phone to the sprint store ans tmo would test at least 2x faster vs sprint on wimax, that's with full bars since they have signal boosters at their stores.

Sprint is becoming a victim of the iPhone own success the way AT&T did when the iPhone first came out. Sprint went from being 4th place in the networks to 1st almost overnight due to having unlimited data and high quality phones. Unfortunately they weren't prepared for it network wise.
I keep getting emails about them building/buying/renting new towers here in Los Angeles, but thus far I haven't seen any quality updates.
My recommendation is to call and complain. Most of the time they'll give you an Airrave for free to keep you as a customer.

I think that sprint lineup is far from being the first.
A lot of people buy in the whole unlimited data thing, that's just how Americans are. Why have limits when you can have unlimited? Those people don't think about speeds, they think that all data is same lol. Sadly, they also usually don't even get close to 2gb, which is the lowest tier cap by competitors.
Yay, I have unlimited. What is it good for when everything takes ages to do? Videos aren't even worth the effort over sprint mobile data. Having a tmo ans a sprint phone side by side, I can buffer a YouTube in 720p on tmo and watch 2 minutes of video before sprint would load same video in sq.

Sprint 3g speeds

Is anyone having trouble on 3g. Seems much worse than my Evo. Having trouble connecting to Xda, Facebook etc. During in my car in the same place I eat lunch everyday and I barely have 1 to 2 bars.
I am just an old fashioned country doctor Jim.
Please put sprint tittle on the topic
Anyways try to update prl and profile, if that don't work call sprint to help, they probably will reset your data settings, and it might help, what speeds are you getting on it?

I can say that the 3G 100% better on the S3 than my OG Epic. It is also now 10x faster and 33% lower latency since Sprint either upgraded or fixed the tower(s) covering downtown Denver, CO.
Which is really good since I don't expect to see LTE for another 18-24 months!
Well try that thanks. Will upload some speeds when I get a chance later.

3g has degraded for me. At work I use to get about 1.5mpbs. Now I'm lucky to get .7mbps. I avg about .4mbps. This may have something to do with iphones sharing the same 3g. I really miss wimax as I used to get it almost everywhere I go. I live in the bay area.

Funnily enough, slower for me here in Long Island. I'm lucky to pull over 512k down and up here in my office. I was often getting higher then 1mbit but it's sprint so there was always fluctuation.
I never really had any complaints with Sprint speeds on 3G but after playing with this phone on my office wifi for most of today - I wish LTE was around already, this hardware really deserves better speeds.
it depends on what tower I'm connected to. at home (South Philadelphia, pa), it's nice and zippy. at work (Port Richmond, Philadelphia, pa) it's awful, but that seems to be the trend near my job. Verizon was almost as bad, everyone on t-mo and metro have issues, and at&t is terrible, as well. i don't know what the problem is, Sprint even has a dedicated tower only a block from my job.

I'm actually getting better speeds on my s3 than any other sprint phone EVER. I consistently get over 1mbps where on my iPhone and gs2(on 3g) I would never even get over 600kbps. It makes not having wimax or lte that bad
I am assuming it has to be Sprint because my wife just bought Evo 4G LTE and having the same problem .

As a reader of several forums, it is apparent to me that there is a pattern of such anomalies being reported by some end users of Sprint's LTE-capable phones in some areas. Remember that these new devices right now are connecting to the legacy EVDO and 3G network, which is in the process of being replaced completely on a localized basis in Sprint's Network Vision rollout.
Because these anecdotal reports are sporadic, and seem to affect more than one LTE device design, while most users report no such problems, I suspect that something is going on with the interaction of these devices with the under-construction network locally. Hopefully this is temporary. The phones are supposed to work fine with the legacy network, and with the under-construction changeover, but I suspect there are some issues.
Sprint has not owned up to any such problems. So we just don't know for sure. Personally, if I were one of those affected, I would not accept a two-year contract beyond the 14-day trial without concrete commitments from Sprint to fix this.

I wish I could get 3g speeds like that from Sprint, and that is why I am switching to Verizon.
Below are the screenshots of 3g speedtest.
Sprint on the left, Verizon on the right.
It is highly variable on location.I was driving home in traffic through Staten Island and the speeds varied from 2 mb down to .4 mb down and 1 mb up to a low of .2 up. Tried it at four locations. The worst is by far my home in Jersey, .4 down, .2 up. Thank God for Wi-Fi.

I got an EVO 4G LTE and returned it after 4 days. My wife got one at the same time. The MAX download speed I ever got was like 300k. Averaged about 50k.
My S3 on ATT LTE gets 20mbps.

I beat that speed on 3g with my Sprint GS III in the Bronx, and my Photon in Jamaica queens NYC. To all of the people that switched to Verizon at a time when Network Vision is rearing it's head is a shame. Their lack of investigating the issues will cause them to pay more for the next 2 years while people like me will save lots and have unlimited data.

I am tried on knocking sprint about their slow data speeds.

I am slowly becoming a fan of sprint's internet speeds. Please check out my signature line for the speed I got on my laptop computer. I am thoroughly impress with the speed I am getting. I was knocking sprint because I was getting faster internet speeds from my home internet but now I am getting faster speeds from my phone internet. If sprint can duplicate this standard everywhere they my have a chance of being the number one cell phone provider one day.
ill continue knocking them for a lack of LTE and unusable speeds on 3G

Best speed I've gotten over the last month was a 422/308 kbps in jersey
I've gotten as low as 20kbps and my highest speed was 800, on average I get 200-300kbps on one phone and 500kbps on the other (samsung sph-a900 and apple iPhone respectively), and ~6months+ ago (for 6 years) I was getting ~1.2mbps with spikes upto 1.5mbps. (And at Lunch/dinner time the speed drops to about half of the average) Have not had a chance to try LTE yet because it's not available here.
I am finally starting to pull some decent speeds. My 3G speeds have been increasing and I get LTE around my area. My prior Wimax phones got no love. Soon as I took the GNII to work, 4G popped up.
Highest I have gotten in my area is 8mbps, slowest about 1.3mbps. On 3G I routinely stay over 500kbps and sometimes in the 1.5mbps around town. All far better than what I used to get.

I was pulling upto 20gb/month a few years ago when I was getting 1.2mbps and avoiding slow WiFi (most of the hotspots around here are 300-600kbps) now that my data speed is 400-600 dep on time and phone I try to use hotspots more and I only pull a couple gb/month at max (though to be fair I use less mobile data overall, for a month I test-drove AT&T and was pulling upto 5mbps on HSPA+ and upto 27mbps on LTE and I still stayed WELL within my 3gb limit (and even really pushing hard to burn though the data at the end of the month by streaming HD videos I barely got to 2.5gb)
Also, just for the record, it's "100gb/month" of data (as per reports on androidforums) for 3G - no idea what the cap is on LTE

Read an article today how boost mobile or virgin mobile is throttling their speed after the user consumes a certain amount of bandwidth.
The speed would be throttled down to 256kbps.
I LOLd. I wish I get 256kbps from sprint.
As an aside, both those networks run atop the sprint network...So they get the same speeds as sprint users.

One on sprint the other on solavei. Which is tmobile really.
The solavei phone kills sprint in data speed. Constantly getting 10-15 mbps all day.
Lately my sprint note is to slow for decent test.
I love unlimited data but is it truly unlimited if your connection is piss poor slow?
The solavei plan is Unlimited 4g

No $10.00 per month smartphone fee. I have been a sprint customer for 14 years but for the first time considering leaving.
Even when the lte gets worked out . The data plans will most assuredly change. I just hope they get it together soon.

I hear you on that. I tested out the internet on my ATT iPad3 (HSPA+ and LTE) and I gotta say it's very tempting to switch (Pulled 4-5mbps on HSPA+ and 20-25mbps on LTE) if ATT would offer me a bit more data, like T-Mo does @ 5gb/month (T-Mo reception is **** here) I'd probably switch. There comes a point when you say "if I cant really physically use more than 5gb/month of data, why am I paying for it?" I'm really hoping LTE is as big of a game-changer as Sprint claims (I've seen some impressive speeds posted on HoFo) but given what happened with Sprint's implimentation of WiMAX, I'm not holding my breath...
