Is it possible to go from perm-root to 100% stock? I'm talking both the recovery and the ROM. If so, can anyone link an explanation or any necessary files? Thanks in advance.
I saw some guides on this forum that show a way to flash back to a stock rom which should also return the phone to s-on state.
I would however like to know if the clockwork recovery would also be flashed back to htc recovery.
Would that return the phone to 100% stock state as it applies to warranty?

Please use the search tool in the future... there's a thread for this in the android development section.

Hey guys, I am rooted and running Virtuous rom and I just wanted to know IF I ever wanted to go back to the stock G2 rom what would I have to do that? Thanks
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
two options:
1. If you were smart, you made a nandroid of your stock ROM the minute you confirmed the root procedure worked. If you did, simply use ROM Manager or boot into recovery, wipe everything, and restore that nandroid.
If you didn't....
2. Download one of the many stock ROMs in the development subforum, and flash that through ROM manager or recovery. Remember to wipe anytime you switch between ROMs (especially Sense-to-stock, or vice versa).
Is there any stock roms on rom manager that I can just do from there?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Nope, just Cyanogen and Virtuous. Just find a stock ROM that you want to use, download the .zip file, and put that on your memory card (don't unzip it, just drop the whole .zip file as-is). Then, in ROM Manager, choose 'Install Zip from SDcard' and navigate to wherever you put that zip file. ROM Manager will give you the option to wipe and to perform a backup of your current ROM before it flashes the new one - choose both options and let it run. super easy.
Alright thanks man

So it's not a stock ROM then ? If someone is looking for a stock ROM, then flashing a custom ROM isn't going to be what they need, surely ? Because they may well not want root either. Often folks ask for a stock ROM because they are doing a warranty return or similar. Or just want to go back completely to how it came from the factory.
That ROM that you linked has also got a modified RAM disk, and is zip-aligned. So it has several changes from a stock ROM.
If you're doing warranty work, that's close enough to stock. I don't thing you can 'unroot' your phone and go back to *totally* stock.

It's very straightforward to remove root, there are several guides on it in the dev section.

That's funny I never saw where he asked for a complete stock, unrooted rom for warranty purposes, guess you should give him the right link then since you seem to know what he REALLY wants. and from his second post by asking if he could find a stock rom on rom manager I would think since rom manager requires root to work, he might be looking for a stock rooted rom.
If you want to correct people please give the right awnser then, in this case give him what he's really looking for, as far as the link I provided it seems the only person not happy with the awnser is someone who didn't even ask the question, so keep up the good job "awnser police".
Just curious how much time did you spend researching that I am wrong instead of giving the OP what YOU THINK is the right link??? Time well spent.
But I guess it seems to happen, instead of awnsers we get posts trying to prove who's MORE right.
Well no hard feelings on my end, hope you have a great day, and happy posting.
@ XXMAGIC MANNXX Heres some more links you can check out from the HTC VISION Wiki, but be careful with these could have undesired effects,

Bingo. Get the Samsung Vibrant AIO tool and flash yourself on back to whatever stock ROM it comes with, then just use Kies Mini to get to the most recent version.
I just upgraded the Vibrant I bought yesterday from 2.1 --> the most recent Froyo build. Simple process.
Good luck!
Wrong section, but I'll help.
It's simple, just use ODIN to go back to stock JFD, then upgrade through Kies Mini, and it'll put the phone into the newest release of froyo that Samsung has pushed out.
welll .. I was looking for a way to completely unroot my phone today to send it back by the 9th. But to my surprisement the unroot threads are gone. The links in the index are there but when you click on them ... they dont work. They are not in the development or the general section .. I went thru all the pages. A search didnt find anything on how to unroot this so I can take send it back.

well thanks ... guess no one believe in putting "unroot" in the title for unroot threads anymore.... since that is what i was looking and searching for .. not a stock ROM. I gonna try this out ..thanks for the help again.
Wait, what happened to the 1 step unroot thread that simply required you download and install the zip file? I was planning on using that tonight.
I knew I should have downloaded the file yesterday...

yep .. thats what I was looking for .. gone it seems. I just unrooted mine I believe. I had a completely stock backup with the odex files and all .. all I did was flash the recovery image using odin after restoring the stock recovery and then a master reset.
the links I used to get the stuff I needed were:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321811
last page of this one to get the recovery since the link in the first one doesnt work

I didnt use this since I had a backup but this is the stock ROM that you can probably use in jangst123 method instead of using that deodexed one... but I didnt do that ... so I cant confirm that myself .. although .. couldnt see why not.

Well wouldn't unrooting bring you back to stock status? Either way hope this helped.
If your using the stock zip make sure you flash stock kernel first and then stock rom or you'll be stuck with custom kernel logo if you had one installed.

eh not really .. I was using a "stock" but rooted rom. I was looking for the keyword of unroot... which is probably why I didnt see that one. Since there are stock ROMs that arent really stock like rooted and all.
But yes that did help and I`m sure its going to help others as well .. so thanks again for the reply.

Which ROM you have installed? Have you tried to flash official stock rom again? If no, try to flash and see.
If you are on MF2 or ME6 ROM, then you might need to restore EFS backup.. Anyways, give us more details so that we can investigate futher.

Why? When I was an admin in a big forum like this, requests like yours never ceased to amaze me. This is a public forum, not a private messaging service. How can anyone else learn from any of it if its parts are deleted every time something's resolved!?!
It's a selfish request... in exactly the same way that someone saying they'll PM someone to privately continue the discussion, when said discussion is guaranteed to contain information from which others may benefit, is selfish. I'm not saying you're selfish, or calling you a name or anything like that. I'm simply pointing-out that maybe you didn't think it through before asking a mod to remove the thread. It's participants aren't the only ones reading and learning around here.

Which rom are you using? Check that.
Do you have Odin flashable stock rom? If not download that, then you can flash the whole rom with Odin or from there you can extract the modem file and flash with Odin. The process is not actually easy if you have never done it before. Or you can search for the specific rom modem which is flash ready and download and flash that. The easiest method would be to flash stock rom altogether.

I think I didnt make my clear, I meant what ROM did your phone originally come with, which modem or baseband version, do you know that? Was it international rom or country specific? The rom you flashed later didn't have the right modem version that is why you are in this mess, find out which rom your phone came with and then download that rom then you can either flash the whole rom or extract the modem file and flash that.
