[Q] Messaging Notification Issue - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I used to use Go SMS Pro for the backup purposes, then they started charging moneys and I decided to uninstall and use other free options. Problem is that my phone will not notify me now of any text message I receive now. I have toggled the settings in the stock messaging app to notify me when I receive a text message, but it doesn't make a difference. I have also flashed a different ROM to see if that would work, no dice. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Reinstall Go SMS Pro (which is free) and then install SMS Backup & Restore. This will give you the notifications that you want and allow you to backup.

I thought of that, but I am not a fan of GO SMS and would like to use the stock messaging app. I purely used GO SMS because of the cloud message storage, didn't use it for texting purposes. I use SMS backup and recovery now to backup, but would like to be able to obtain notifications for the stock messaging app.

You should be able to just open the stock messaging app, press menu, Settings, and scroll down to Notifications.

quick text in messaging

Is there a way of backing up the "Quick text" in the default messaging program? I backup with tiantium backup, and haven't seen how to do it. I usually don't restore the messages wiht TB - I have tried various backup programs.
I don't know about the stock app, but you can save quick texts using handcent.
If you back up the app and data using Titanium it should backup your quick texts too. When you flash a new ROM or wipe for whatever reason you should be able to get back your quick texts by restoring either the data for the messaging app or the whole app itself.
As far as the texts themselves I recommend SMS backup&restore from the market, it has a "check for duplicates" feature that's great.

So if this were the case, then wiping the 'Messages' would restore any changes to the quick messages. However, it has no effect. Restoring the message prefs program on a new rom also does not restore quick texts.
As far as finding an alternative, I did find another messaging app. However, I was hoping to not have 2 programs on my phone that do the same thing.

[Q]Vanilla Android to TouchWiz SMS restoration?

I upgraded from a Nexus One to the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 yesterday. I used Mobile Backup Pro, to backup up SMS and MMS messages.
When I signed into the phone, my app didn't get pulled down from Google. Also, I want my SMS messages restored from my Nexus to my GS2. I tried Backup Pro, but I didn't work. MMS worked though.
I am not a fan of the TouchWiz UI. I prefer Vanilla Android.
Everytime I try to restore my SMS messages that I saved from the Nexus One, to the Samsung GS2, the Messaging client on the GS2, starts freezing, and locking up.
Have you tried sms backup from the market?

that, or if you are using GO SMS Pro (build in) it's such a breeze
I used SMS backup. Same thing. It freezes my Samsung messaging app
I'd give mybackup pro a try. It doesn't seem to work as well as it used to for applications, but for sms, mms, call log, all that, it works pretty well.

I originally use that. But, it said it was restoring me messages, but only MMS showed up. After that, for some reason, its like Stock android to TouchWiz gives my phone the chills. Its locks up, and force closes on the messaging app.
I used mybackup pro (vibrant to sgs2) with no problems.

i use this one https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&hl=en
as 2nd backup, just in case the Go SMS backup fails
double the protection
because it sends them to my Gmail account, and i can keep a good log of all my calls and sms, etc
it can restore just fine, no freezing
Yeah that's the one i mentioned

Stock msging app FREEZING after importing 13k msgs from iPhone backup

The stock msging app is constantly freez and crash after I imported all my text messages from iPhone. Is this because I imported too many? or is it because of a corrupt import?
Go SMS Pro works without a problem though

It's because the stock app doesn't hide any of the older message and attempts to load all of them whenever you enter a conversation. Go SMS only shows more recent ones and requires you to press a button to load older ones, as an iPhone does.
I'm not sure what Samsung managed to do to the stock app, because on vanilla ICS/JB, Google's stock app doesn't have this issue nearly as soon as the Samsung app does, even though it is also loading all of the messages simultaneously.

Titanium does not backup SMS messages, these are stored in a database, i forget where off the top of my head but shouldn't be hard to find in the forums. You can manually copy this database before a rom flash and copy back afterwards, or back them up online using an app. There are atleast a handful, personally i use SMS Backup + by Jan Berkel. This creates an SMS folder to you gmail account and backs up the each sms indivdually to gmail which makes searching for a buried text a snap, and also allows you to access any message that has already been backed up from anywhere with access to gmail. Did i mention its free .

I found this in another thread regarding pulling SMS messages from a phone, although i haven't confirmed this is the correct (or only) location of the SMS database.
"You can get the sms database from /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases"
I use My Backup Root to save SMS/MMS and call log messages before a flash. It has the capability to back up apps too, but TiBu does a better job on apps.
I use My Backup also. I liked it enough I bought the pro version. Use it every flash for SMS, call log, bookmarks, apps and there data. The free version does all this. The pro version allows you to restore backups to a different phone, only difference between free and paid versions. One quirk I've found is that restoring apps and data you have to do apps, reboot, then restore app data. Other than that its great.
SMSBackup+ for me... never had a problem with it.

I use titanium backup and works perfect for sms and mms. Hit the menu button and select backup data to xml and select the sms option. Also works great for call log backup. To restore just hit menu and select restore from xml.

I was not aware of this, although i do like having my sms's backed up to gmail this is good to know.
The Titanium Backup option sounds good, I didn't know that..
But I use SMS Backup either way.. 60% of the time, it works everytime..
Yeah, TiBu does back up mms and sms messages, I have used the restore and backup many times and its has worked perfectly every time.
Thanks for the replies guys. I personally like the tibu option. As long as I've had the app, i never knew it did that. Tibu is a must have. So it's best to use it beings you've already got it. I'm one that prefers not to have dozens of apps downloaded. I get by as simple as possible. I checked on some of the recommendations and some of them don't backup mms. Thanks for everything guys
Thanks for everyone.

Hi,
Titanium even allows to batch the backup of SMS/MMS, but also Call logs, Bluetooth associations and WLAN networks in XML. It even syncs the backup to Dropbox.
A must have as far as I am concerned when often flashing new ROMs.

Built In Messenger App, is the only one that works.

Has anyone run into the problem where you can only receive text from the built in messenger app. I've tried Textra, Android Messenger, Etc. And all have the exact same history from a few days ago compared to Samsung messenger which is updated completely . I can send from the the 3rd party messengers i've made default, but all responses go to the Samsung messenger even though it is not the defaulted one. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?
I am having the same issue

I'm using Android Messenger and it works correctly. Try re-checking your default messenger settings.

My Textra App, shows a completely different message history than the built in app. One that has a few of todays messages in it, missing some in between. I have no idea whats going on. Also my OTP SMS autofill does not work on any app (when the server sends you a code and instead of having to go into messages and copy the code, it should autofill and self verify) You can imagine the problem i had when trying to do a factory restore and google was attempting to send me a text to verify and it wasnt auto reading the text with the code.

Yes, the problem exists.
Go to Settings > Cloud and Accounts > check the multi-line settings "this is the option that is messing with texts"
Also go to Apps > Scroll to "Messages' and tap on it, Hit Storage >> Clear Data, go back one, and you'll see "set as default" under the permissions. clear defaults and "after you do the wipe it might be greyed out >> open your preferred app and try to text yourself and make sure.

What should multi line settings be? I have DIGITs with my S3 Rugged, but i never had this problem with my V20
I've been using Signal since day one. Absolutely no issues. Even used it to make calls through signal to another signal user.

I didn't mess with the multi-line settings, but just to make sure it is off. I have been using textra with no issue.
My wife started having problems with texts after the most recent update as well. She can send texts and I receive them, but she doesn't receive any texts. I've had her try resetting, turning on and off Wi-Fi, etc. I'm having her try clearing data and cache from the Messages app, I'll let you know if it works.
Edit: Tried clearing data and cache and setting Messages as the default, still no luck. And I don't see any option for multi line settings in Cloud and Accounts. Any other ideas?
