I lose about 10% per 30min on browsing (xda or dolphin) on 3g here in central London with full signal. Just wondering if that's normal or am I loosing too much battery there?
Standby on 2g is excellent. Drains about 1% every 2-3hours.
I think it's quite normal.
I lose about 5% for 10-15 min browsing...
i think it's pretty normal, just depending on you screen brightness...
It depends on the screen brightness, and also the cpu usage. You might be able to limit the cpu speed to use less power

Easiest way to find out is checking whats using the battery. I guess it's the display since it's the biggest battery consumer. It's mostly responsible for about 70-80 % of my battery usage. And I already have brightness down to maybe 30 %.
Anyway, go to Settings -> About phone -> battery -> battery use and see what's the reason for your battery loss.
But 10 % isn't too much.
Hey guys,
It would be really nice if people start posting the battery life of their defy on CM7 any build.
Pls mention the build detail and how much do you use.
let me start.
i am getting around 2 days 10-15 hrs on a single charge..
i am using cm7 RC1v2
i listen to music for around 4 hrs, i msg frequently, i take pics, only 2G, wifi for an hour, no gps, no mobile data.
Lets try to keep this thread alive to help ppl who are trying CM7 and wants to know how much they should expect battery life.
Thank you
I m having the latest build july 1 and it charges only till 95............
2g is 6hrs
cm7 beta 6
around 30hs
2h listening to music
1.5h talking
30m gaming
30m web surfing
auto-brightness enabled
wifi/3g constantly on, wifi never sleeps
undervolted:
800/45, 600/30, 300/18
up threshold: 90%
vsel1 when screen is off
vsel2 when battery <20%
wow...that alot of info...thanks..really appreciated..
cmon guys...70+ views but only 2 replies??
I've noticed that if I am busy and I don't have time to play to much with Defy (using it mostly for his basic function = mobile phone) the battery can least over 4 days with moderate use (talk time around 40 minutes). I generally keep it on 2G network mode as the 3G coverage on my current carrier is not so god and I use the internet/data connection on Defy only on demand. The screenshot below was taken on CM7 beta 6.
1 hour usage can drain as much battery as 20 hours standby. So "battery life" can hardly be comparable even with slight difference in usage pattern. Maybe how long 1% battery can last on average is more comparable.
In my case 1% battery can standby 1~2 hours, or use (call, video, game...) 3~7 minutes. I was actually recording battery level/time with pen and paper but not by impression. And I don't notice big differences among roms, including orange, finland, noric, hk/tw, or cm7.
And I noticed that after using the 720p recording patch to record video (in other stock roms, not cm7), battery would be drained at 4% every hour standby.
3 hrs of GPS tracking, screen off, 3G always on:
100% to 70%
Hi !
With rooted froyo (the official one from Orange France), SetvSel to undervolt the proc (vsel3 : 52V @ 1000 MHz, lowering by 2V the others vsel), i could go for more than 26hrs with one charge.
Now with cm7 nightly from 01/06 n°0114 (which by the way works like a charm and was really easy to install even for a noob like me), no undervolting at all, 9hrs drained 35% of the battery (with a more intense use I must recognize), which leads to a little less than 26hrs.
I will try to undervolt it, but I definitely think I will get a better battery saving with cm7 !
It's terrible to see that with some little tweaks, cm7 moto defy beats the stock one.
I consider that I paid moto enough that they can provide these tweaks by default in their product, it doesnt cost much time (in my case less than an hour) and it benefits a lot.

wipe battery stats after flashing a ROM..read few post above to know how to do it..
turnoff wifi,3G,gps,bluetooth and mobile data when u r not using..these consume battery alot!
or else use apps like juicedefender or green battery app to do it automatically..
reduce screen brightness or keep it in auto brightness mode..it will save alot of battery
task killers might help..some people says..but i think it consumes more battery then it gives
avoid using live wallpaper..i know it looks gr8..but its not gud for ur battery
try these and report here..
All the best

Hi everyone.
I don't see anyone feeling bad about battery nowadays with new update. I dont see any improvement in mine :O
I need some informations from you, can you tell me voltage phone reaches when it turns off by itself? Its very strange when mine reaches around 40-50% voltage goes down very fast and it turns off around 3.2v...
Who's with good battery?
Tell me,
*phone time on battery
*display on time
*wifi time on
i feel like mine is not good i dont know the reason why.. my friend gets 7 hours of browsing(7hrs display on), and i get around 4... it cant last 5 hours with display on.
-- 30 % brightness, bravia off, sync off, auto rotation on --
I saw on internet some reviews 2 days of heavy use :O how?
I tried wiping batt. stats, and gonna try again after system creates batterystats.bin
i did it twice, but slight improvement...
regards
hope this isnt spam for you.
Hi
I have voted 8-9 hours for casual use at low display brightness 20-30%. Auto brightness is allways activated and using it in a fairly light room might increase your display brightness without you noticing this. Could this be the reason you are experiencing such high battery drain with display on?
Heavy gaming:
3D games like order and chaos and dungeon defender that utilize the Andreno consumes up to 30% per hour, that leaves 3 hours of use. Battery history show an allmost 50/50 between display power usage and the game process power usage. Buildin speaker also consumes allot of power.
FPSE that to my knowledge do not use the GPU but utilizes the CPU 100% consumes around 20% per hour leaving 4-5hours gaming.
Light gaming and casual use.
My daughters using drawing programs, playing angry birds or other light weight kids games plus some webbrowsing and email reading consumes about 12-15% per hour leaving 8-9 hours of use with dispaly on.
If you add speech calls on 3G your times will decrease significantly, this is consuming 20-30% of battery per hour depending on signal strengt. This is my personal observations.
Bravia is allways activated and I thought this was only used when watching movies or looking at pictures in the gallery?
It is interesting to read the SE support app installed and the SE recommendations to improve battery live. They mention that if your display is at max brightness it will not make any noticeable difference if you have bluetooth, wifi, data, sync etc turned on as the screen is consuming sooo much power at max they also recommend to use earphones instead of speaker to improve battery consumption. The rest of the recommendations are well known as to turn everything not needed off. The recommendation I like the most is a daily reboot to improve system performance
I like your review.. I got the same result with 3d gaming... 3 hours, but i never had 8-9 hours even with light usage.. Not playing 3d games..
Max. I get is 5 hours but i dont know how, i fell asleep on entry screen on asphalt 6...

I began to suspect it's from the battery it self, I reversed to the old firmware .145 the battery was the same, never completes a whole day, 19 hours maximum.
I think its battery too... I bought mine with world generic, and flashed uk generic, its same for me... Has anyone thought that somewhere in system is set battery capacity is example 900, i have read it on this forum in x8... So how to investigate it, my battery dies always ~4 hours display... It went once 2 days, and display time of course 4 hours.

Haha, a nice way of testing it, keeping it running while sleeping :-D 5-6 hours is probably more normal than 8-9 hours, that was when my daughters was using it with a kids drawing program at low light settings, it was not consuming much cpu at no sound was used.
I have bought order and chaos but had shortly installed a cracked version as there were some problems with android marked at the time. I paid for the game but it would not start the download, contacted their support and found a cracked version while waiting for them to fix it ;-)

The batterys voltage will drop allot from 100% to 90% and the voltage decrease will slow down as you are getting closer to 0%. I would guess 3,65 is close to 0%.
The battery % is not calculated from the voltage level but from an internal register in the battery chip that decreases with a value calculated by the battery chip from the exact amount of power used. The battery chip can measure precisly how much power is running to and from the battery.
The android calibration can change this register for example when the battery is getting close to a pre configured safe voltage level, could be 3,65v. It would then reset the register to 0 and the same goes when charging the phone.
If the register show you can have max 5000 units and you are charging the battery and reaches 95% and 4500 units while the voltage show 4,2 which is full, it would then update the register to have 4500 as max level and start to decrese this as power is draining from the battery. If you have 10% left and 450 in the register with voltage at 3,65 it will presume this to be empty and the register would be changed to 0 and battery indicator to 0%. The next charge to 100% should end up at 4150 which would match the exact capacity available for the phone.
The battery will over time slowly degenerate and its capacity will slowly decrease which is one of the reasons the calibration is needed to allways have it show correct battery levels.
The battery is actually not empty at 3,65 but draining it even further will drop the voltage and make the phone crash.
I hope my above explanation makes senses. Had earlier updated and compiled an android kernel battery driver for the old xperia x1 phone. I presume the mechanism for the battery driver in Xperia Arc is the same.

Hey guys,
so I recently purchased an International HTC One X and hsve loved it so far, but I think the battery is draining too fast.
On standby, it drained from 93% to 89-92% in 8 hrs which I suppose is good, but while using, it drops pretty quick. I wanna know how many hours or how much percentage does your battery decrease by while on standby or during use?
By the statistics I have provided, do u think there's anything wrong with my battery?
PS: I used the built in battery app, go to settings>power
Thanks, Id really appreciate it if u could help out since I'm worried if my newly expensively bought phone has something wrong with it or not, ill hit the thanks button

Battery drain
I'm currently on Leedroid' ROM and the behaviour is similar to what I had with the stock rom and looks like the folowing:
Data or WiFi on, autobrightness on, autosync off
Hangs a litle on 100% then dops abruptly from 98-97% to 80% in about 4-5 hrs with a screen time under 30'
from 70% to 30% however, the battery drain "magically" improves giving 6-8 hrs of standby including 2 hrs of screen time of which the most is used to browse the net via 3G.
At the moment my stats are: 13h 50' on baterry, 2h 15' screen time, 21% left
I got a steep drop from 31% to 21%, just as I was checking the stats for this message, but bare in mind this is the first run with Leedroid (flashed last evening) so I expect things to improve.
After 10-12 days on the stock rom I remember getting some 3-3.5 hrs of screen time within 16 - 18 hrs total before reaching 10%.
So i suggest, give the battery a little time to settle, then adjust your usage habits according to what you get (like turning autobrightness off, data off etc).
I for one am waiting for some stable kernel improvments regarding the tegra power mangement (sounds cool, have no idea what I'm talking about and I expect to get some 20-30% more screen time within the same time period (18-20hrs).
I've been running a few battery tests. Last night I wanted to totally burn out the battery so I used it down to about 5% and started a youtube movie streaming over wifi at full brightness. An hour later...... it finally died.
The companion core on this thing can really confuse you are testing standby time or music and video playback.
I want a mod for the phone where I can toggle it to use 1, 2, or 4 cores. To the OS, it looks like core0 is also the companion core.
Thanks

so do you think there really is something wrong with my battery?
i read on a popular android website that they played a video on mx player in loops and it lasted for 6 hrs and 6 mins, which makes like 17 percent for every hour of viewing. I downloaded mx player, gonna watch a movie, and hope the battery drain is on par
The less battery doesnt bother me much, what does is that im worried that there MAY be something wrong with my battery, gonna try out for a day or 2, gonna see if my results can match urs, thanks
just hope theres nothing wrong with my battery
PS: i have everything stock, i unlocked bootloader, flash CWM5.8.x.x but returned to stock later.

So the browsing drained about 70% of the battery right? Suppose those 11 hours of sleep took even 10%, and u have 21% left, so u spent about 70% on the browsing right? Thanks
when you charge to 100% it drops down to 95% then charges back up to stop over charging, who ever it doesn't show you the % it just says 100% thats why you can lose ~5% in a few seconds when first taking it off charge.
yesterday i got 14 hours 9% left and had just a little over 4 hours screen time on leedroid 5.1.

Battery Fix
I had a pretty serious battery issue during my first couple days with the phone, where the battery drain was extremely fast and inconsistent, sometimes dropping 5% at a time and giving me maybe 8 hours of life total.
The issue was that the battery tracking in the phone was messed up. When you go to Settings>Power, the default setting for "Fast Boot" is on. This seems to mess up the way that battery drain is tracked. I fixed the issue by turning Fast Boot off, charging up the phone to 99% (it wouldn't reach 100, that's how bad it was messed up), then restarting it. Now, it works perfectly and easily gets me through the day with moderate/heavy usage; I watched a 30 min video streaming from youtube of wifi and lost only 7%.
The downside is now the phone takes 5 seconds longer to start up .

Now, it works perfectly and easily gets me through the day with moderate/heavy usage; I watched a 30 min video streaming from youtube of wifi and lost only 7%.
The downside is now the phone takes 5 seconds longer to start up .

This is what I was looking for thanks mate!!!!!!
Why not join the Battery Stats thread that has like 20-30 pages of discussion already.. I fail to see how a new thread every day helps people to find what they want to find..

I did that, and streamed on youtube for 30 mins, lost like 9 percentage, is it good? or is there something with my battery?
All of your battery issue will be sorted out people..don't forget that One X is still running on GB kernel n so is transformer prime..Nvidia n HTC are working on the ICS kernel..n once they are out with it our HOX is gonna blow away everything in the Market in both performance n battery life

That's perfectly fine. Battery drain will never be perfectly consistent (perhaps your video had better graphics/resolution than mine did). Looks like your battery's OK now.

Hi all
I noticed that the battery of my nate 20x 5g drains extremely fast under 20 % it went directly from 20 to 16 then to 8 then to 3 percent
Also the battery life 100 percent at 1pm drains to 30 percent at 6pm using only whatsapp and some calls it isn't as good as my p30 pro (1.5day normal usage)
I need your help cause if it's the same on all mate 20 x I'll be obliged to change the phone even I love everything on it except the battery life

hm thats weird. check ur screen brightness, thats the no. 1 battery life sucker. also, switch off all unneeded sensors when not in use (wifi, mobile data, BT, NFC, GPS, etc).
aside from that, have a look at your performance profile (performance, balanced, battery saver) and also check and see how many apps are non battery optimized in settings, as well as how many apps are allowed to run in background and be launched automatically.
Thanx so much for your quick reply
I'll check this out and I'll give you a feed back

wipe the phone don't install your sht wipe other crap apps and test the battery ... if still bad , need replacing...
Below 20% battery usage increases rapidly, this is normal.
The phone's wattage usage is constant as is its V+ power rail voltage. Volts X Amps=watts therefore as battery voltage falls the phone's voltage converter draws more amps to make up for the difference in falling voltage.
The phone's actual wattage consumption remains almost the same except for power lost in the voltage conversion.
Best to NOT use after 20-30% as it stresses the battery unnecessary.

Hey man,
Unfortunately its normal for that phenomenon to occur not only on the mate 20x but on other phones as batteries age losing their lasting strength. My sammy a70 also acts this way at the 20% point where battery scales down rapidly as you've described.
This is due to a few factors like one or more cells inside degrading over time as estimates to the battery gauge will be missing by the percentage of juice represented by the missing/damaged cell. There are other factors that come into play but this is by far the most frequently occurring event.
You can try replacing the battery which entails thermally heating the back cover to open the phone or buying a battery case like the one I linked below which I bought a few months ago. It has helped me extend my 20x's battery to 6 - 9 days under medium to heavy use without a recharge while killing bt, gps, data, etc. Under light use I was able to pull off 12 days without recharging.
