[Q] Help....bootloop after Revolutionary (radio problem) - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I followed the instructions on here to flash my DINC2 with TACOROOT and then used REVOLUTIONARY to obtain s-off. However I got an error message when I tried to enter the command "fastboot flash zip 1.09.01.0312_vivow_Radio_PG32IMG.zip" when the bootloader screen came up on the Droid. Now it is boot looping. I have tried to use that command several times all to no avail. I would get errors, and most recently the message is "waiting for device".
I am at a dead end and not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Name the radio PG32IMG.zip and put it in your sdcard and boot into bootloader
sent from my paranoid android

Thanks! That worked great. No more boot loop and it is telling me that I have Android 2.3.3 and software number 2.18.605.3. However, after running Revolutionary one more time to make sure I was in s-off, I can no longer boot into Hboot once I have rebooted. Nothing happens when I push the Vol- and Power at the same time.....when I release the buttons it boots normally.
Any ideas?

Don't let go of volume down until it gets to the bootloader screen.

Why did you run revolutionary again. Should a just checked by loading into hboot
Plug your phone up and in cmd prompt. Type.
Adb reboot bootloader
I think that's it. I'll double check

Great. Thanks a million! I used Rooted and now on to the adventure. SuperSU_V0.93 to achieve Super User. Dumping some bloatware via Titanium Backup Pro. Any thoughts on a good custom ROM? What are some good beginner tweeks to this thing? I would think there is a lot better stuff out ther other than the regular HTC and Verizon stuff.....

Roms are a never ending debate around here. There are a lot of good ones. I recommend you try a few and see what you like. Try a sense one, a miui one, aosp ones...You'll want to spend some time on the forum reading around and seeing what people are saying. There are also several threads dedicated to discussing "best" roms.

Wow.......way too much fun. I left work a couple hours early just to go mess with this Droid. My wife just gave me a strange look....LOL! Thanks everyone for your advice and help!

Just put the Radio on the root of your SD card. Rename it PG32IMG.zip. Reboot your phone into hboot and it will ask if you wish to install the update. Select yes by using the volume up/down buttons. Once yes is highlighted use the power button to select it. After the Radio has updated remove the PG32IMG.zip from the root of the SD. Then reboot the phone and it should work.

If you have the adb tools on your computer, "adb push radio.zip /sdcard/PG32IMG.zip"
If not, shut it down, pull out the sdcard, and insert it into your computer. Copy the zip file to the top directory and eject it.

I'm stuck in a boot loop after trying to flash the radio zip. I also tried the method of copying over the renamed PG32IMG.zip onto my SD card... With the SD card method, what I get at HBOOT were:
SD Checking...
Loading... [PG32DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading... [PG32DIAG.nbh]
No Image or wrong image!
Loading... [PG32IMG.zip]
Checking... [PG32IMG.zip]
Then back to HBOOT. I'm still S-ON, HBOOT-0.97.0000 and Radio-1.09.01.0622. Any ideas?

Flashing Radio, I need help please. I am willing to pay for personal assistance!

I have managed to root and S-OFF my phone (so I'm told), but no matter how I try I can't manage to flash the radio that goes with the android revolution ROM. I've not been able to get ENG S-OFF so I'm trying to flash the radio from the SD Card, but that failed as well.
My radio performance is pretty bad. I really need the new radio flashed to my phone to corrected radio issues.
Is there someone who understands radio flashing process well enough to walk me through it? I am willing to pay for the personal assistance.
Thanks,

Check in the zip file; you should have a file named 'radio.img' - extract this file and copy it to the folder that you're running fastboot from (if you're using the SDK this is probably the tools folder). The file must be named 'radio.img' for that command to work.
If that doesn't work, exactly what error are you getting?
Edit: or do what sslysi says if you're wanting that radio; everything you need's in the download from that thread.

I can't follow android revolution for flashing radio because I can't get the tool to get ENG S-OFF. Already tried this method.
Any other suggestions?

This is exactly what I did. Extracted the zip file and copied out the radio.IMG file into android SDK tools folder. I don't remember the exact error. I will follow up with another post. I should have put it in my original post reporting the problem. Maybe I'm just too frustrated with all this. In addition I can never get my phone into bootloader using vol- and power button. I'm sure there is a reason why all this stuff isn't working. I just don't know enough to put it all together.

It is my understanding that some processes can flash with ENG S-OFF. I tried a number of methods to achieve ENG S-OFF, but can't get there. I am open to suggestions.
Thanks again,
Are you sure you are rooted? Hold down the vol - button whilst switching phone on to enter the bootloader. Once there it will tell you if you have eng s-off. If not use the tool from the link I posted before. I successfully used this app to root my phone after I had downgraded my phone.

Help with flashing radio Desire HD
Hey,
I am an experienced and an advanced Android user/modder with a Desire HD. Here's how I flash a radio
First of all, you'll need to check if you're s-off. To do that, power off the phone, remove the battery, then replace the battery. Then, while pressing the volume down button, press the power button to start the phone in fastboot mode.
When the screen loads, check and see if it's S-OFF or if it's S-ON. If it's S-OFF, continue by following the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054304
I'll summarise it for you according to my own experience for you. I'll assume you're rooted and S-OFF
1. Download the radio of your choice. Rename it to PD98IMG.zip
2. Copy the PD98IMG.zip file to the root of your SD card.
3. Turn off the phone
4. Remove the battery, then replace it
5. Press VOLUME-DOWN while pressing POWER ON at the same time. Keep holding those buttons and do not release them until the fastboot screen shows up
6. At this screen, choose the BOOTLOADER option using the VOL-UP and DOWN to select, POWER button to confirm
7. The phone should then be scanning the SD card for the PD98IMG.zip file. When it's done scanning, it'll install it automatically.
8. Reboot and enjoy!
Also, you might wanna check the md5sum key after downloading your radio to prevent corruption of data.
P/S- You don't have to pay me, just hit the thank button.

[Q] Stuck in "quietly brilliant" loop

Hi,
my rooted Desire seems to be totally knackered. I really need some advice here before I just ring up and order a new phone!
When I turn it on it just seems to repeat the "quietly brilliant" animation forever.
I have tried clearing storage in HBOOT, that did not help.
If I try and enter RECOVERY in Hboot I just get a red warning triangle.
If I then press VOLUP+POWER I get into Android system recovery but it also says "E:Can't open .cache/recovery/command". Doing a Wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache doesn't fix my boot loop problem
However, I can the "Apply sdcard:update.zip" and that gets me into Clockworkmod recovery. In this recovery I am able to navigate up and down the menu with the volume keys but the trackball button doesn't actually select any of the menu items. The power, home & menu buttons just turn the screen off.
I'd really appreciate any help at all!

It might sound odd but it was a long time ago - I don't actually remember.
But after I rooted I installed a standard HTC ROM... I did this because my carrier was taking ages to supply updates.
Then at some point I foolishly applied an OTA update o) to the rooted ROM. This may be what has caused my CWM recovery to stop working.
However, after doing this my phone has been perfectly usable for around a year - until now.
I'd run a ruu here and root it with revolutionary again.

Actually, can someone cofirm if I need a goldcard for flashing an RRU? The reason I ask is because I've been searching for a method to create a goldcard when you only have FASTBOOT access.
If I don't need a goldcard, then I'm heading in the wrong direction. If I do need a goldcard I don't seem to be able to find a way of creating one without a working phone. I don't have the original gold card I used to root the device with in the first place. I should have kept it.

No, the only access I have to my phone is via FASTBOOT. I have read that the ID required to make a goldcard is based on the card itself rather than the phone so my next plan is to try creating the goldcard on another device to use in my Desire.
that is another way good luck fingers crossed
I created a goldcard and applied the RRU successfully! Thanks for all the advice.
Unfortunately I think i have a hardware problem since my phone always starts up in safe mode and I get a long vibration during start-up.
My optical trackball button also doesn't work (hence the problems selecting items in CWM recovery). I think it is permanently pressed which explains why it always starts in safe mode.
It looks like I'll be looking a new phone after all. Samsung Galaxy S2 I think.

[Q] Accidentally updated boot and lost root HTC G2`

First off, I'm fairly noobish. I've had my G2 rooted since the phone came out. I've used CWM and tried out about a dozen ROMs successfully.
Tonight I made the mistake of not having PC10IMG.zip present on my sdcard after flashing a new rom and pushed the wrong button when it asked if I wanted to update my bootloader. This is the ROM I was looking to try out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493404
Now, if I have PC10IMG.zip present when I go into the bootloader I get the message "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot.
If I rename the file, the bootloader will load successfully and I can get into Clockwork Recovery but CW Recovery doesn't actually do anything and I'm pretty sure it's because I lost root and s-off when I accidentally updated the bootloader. Any time I choose a menu option in CW Recovery, it just goes to the CWM emblem and sits there. If I press power or menu key, it brings me back to the menu list.
I have several roms and backups on my SD card, including a backup I made before all of this happened tonight.
This is what is at the top of my bootloader:
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.82.0000
RADIO-26.02.01.15_M2
eMMC-boot
Sep 2 2010, 17:59:00
So basically, I have a phone that will not boot past HTC screen and any attempt to go into recovery or factory data reset sends me into ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.7 which doesn't work because I've lost root and s-off.
I even tried using PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed renamed to PC10IMG.zip and get the message "main version is older, update failed"
Did I brick my G2?
Any help is very appreciated! I'm good at following directions and am willing to do the work to teach myself the various steps. I just couldn't find this particular scenario anywhere online. So if there's a way to say "Do this (link to instructions), this (another link), etc etc"; I'll gladly wade through all the guides. That way I'm not making anyone write up a step-by-step if the work has already been done.
In the spirit of trading knowledge; I work as a repair technician for a cellphone repair shop (physical repairs) so if anyone has any questions regarding doing physical repairs; I'm happy to help out. Make a post and PM so I know to go read it and I'll help anyway I can.

Some of these instructions seem like they need the phone to boot...
For example, I can use adb to push everything except for the files that need to go into /sdcard/
I have another phone that I can just drop the files onto the sdcard root, however there are some other areas that aren't working either
adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
returns 'Failed to set prot mask (Inappropriate ioctl for device)'
This is happening because without the phone booting, the sdcard isn't accessible, right?
C:\Users\Jove\Downloads\g2>adb push su /sdcard/
failed to copy 'su' to '/sdcard//su': Read-only file system

The phone does not boot past the white HTC screen. Clockwork Recovery doesn't work. Renaming the stock rom to PC10IMG.zip doesn't work.
Is there another way to flash to the stock rom?
Also, how do you "thank" responders? Looking for the button and haven't found it
Can you get into the bootloader. Press power+vol down. If so, can't you just drop the factory rom on an sdcard and name it pc10img.
If you can get in the bootloader your not bricked.
EDIT : what was on the pc10img file that you updated? Try and get ahold of a guy named nipqer. That dude is money, he would definitely be able to help you lol
My hboot is oo.76.2000
Can you just flash the older hboot? Maybe that is why it says your trying to flash a newer version. Is the hboot you have on there now the dz? You might have to flash the g2 hboot, then put the stock rom back on, downgrade and reroot.

Grab the latest rom for your phone from here http://www.shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision
Run the exe or extract the rom.zip from it and put it on your sdcard as PC10IMG.zip.
Do a full downgrade and root.
Or you could maybe try run misc_version in recovery to allow the downgrade in the first place

Nipqer, I downloaded the stock rom as instructed (I actually already had the same file, but redownloaded just in case) renamed it to PC10IMG.zip, put it in my sdcard root, started the phone in bootloader, and got the Main Version is older! message.

If I remove the PC10IMG.zip and load the bootloader, any option I choose on the bootloader list like Recovery or Factory Data Reset; loads up Clockwork Recovery, which is non-functional. None of the menu items actually work in CW Recovery.
Am I missing a step here?
As far as the question as to what was on the PC10IMG.zip that I updated from... that's just it, it didn't prompt me to update until I had removed that file from my sd card and then it was just a matter of pressing the wrong button to tell it NO.
Ok, so you had a file named pc10img.zip on your sdcard, randomly? My phone will only want to update if I have a file named pc10img.zip on the sdcard, otherwise it just skips through.
It updated to whatever that file name was, that would help to know. Did you have the dz boot on your phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I honestly don't know which hboot/rom it read when it did the update. I had a PC10IMG.zip on there that it had been using for a ROM from nearly 8 months ago and I don't even remember which rom I was using. I want to say it was PyroMecha_Micro-2.3.5 but thats a shot in the dark. It's the last ROM I remember switching to.
To the best of my recollection, here is what I did... I tried using CWM to install:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493404
And when it wouldn't work, I removed the existing PC10IMG I had on my SD Card, rebooted, it booted fine... went into CWM, installed the ROM, it said it installed correctly and then froze on white HTC screen. I left it there for over 10 mins and then pulled the battery and used voldown+pwr to load bootloader; that's when it prompted me to update (I believe it was VolUp to update, VolDown to decline) either way, I ended up updating it.
I've attempted to go through the instructions for misc_version and could not get the fre3vo debug to work even after reading the instructions for narrowing down the debug search parameters.
I was able to download the following
Download this PC10IMG.zip file, which contains the DesireZ Engineering HBOOT,
My bootloader reads this PC10IMG.zip and does not prompt to update or anything. However, any attempt to recovery or factory data reset sends me into Clockwork Recovery. Once in CW Recovery, no matter which menu option I choose, it brings up the Blackhat with an orange arrow forming a circle beneath the hat. The home key and the power button bring the CWR menu back up. Basically CWR is non-functional.
This leads me to believe that I AM using the DZ Hboot, am I right?

I actually have the entire clockwork backup I did before I started. Is that of any use? I also have previous backups from last summer.
Just in case I haven't said it enough: Thanks everyone! It's been a learning experience and I'm still hopeful that I can get this thing going.
I'm working right now, and its hard to comment back, but I know, I think on irc channel #g2root they can give you immediate help.
Have you tried running the previous backup that you have?

No worries, I'm at work too. I have an LG G2X I'm using so I'm not in a hurry; its more a puzzle I'm trying to solve since I'd rather not turn my HTC G2 into a paperweight. LOL
I haven't fully read the thread but it looks spot on. Thanks for the link!
Or you could maybe try run misc_version in recovery to allow the downgrade in the first place

Nipqer is there a way to change the version when my phone won't boot past the white HTC screen?
I can connect using fastboot usb and I can connect with adb if I let the phone boot into the white HTC screen.
However, as stated before, my CW recovery doesn't work when I try to load into recovery and I cannot access my SD card from my terminal on my PC (when using adb while the phone is on white HTC screen)
It sounds like I have the exact issue that is in the thread mrbmg just posted but I don't see a fix for it under the circumstances I have.
If we can find a way to resolve this under these circumstances, I'll gladly write up a How-To for it.
Thanks!
I hear that. I think that is the thread you are looking for. I've done that before when changing out my radios, but I never flashed my roms through the pc10img...
I try to make it a habit when I'm using the pc10img option off my sdcard to switch it back to another name.. it happens though, I've never unrooted that way though. Should be interesting to fix.

Yeah, I definitely don't feel like it is UN-fixable but I'm learning as I go for sure. I cringed the moment I hit the wrong button on that update LOL

[Q] buzz Wildfire Brick - No ROM, no CWM

Okay, so I've been searching for about a week; Google, XDA, forums, everything.
Backstory:
My friend found this wildfire at a bus stop, it had no Sim in it but an SD card (which he gave to a friend and has since been wiped).
I've unlocked and rooted a ZTE Skate (Orange Monte Carlo) for use with a GiffGaff Sim and Cyanogen. I'm quite computer Savvy and thought that I'd easily be able to do the same thing with this phone, with Google anything is possible!
Current Condition:
It's in the same state as when I got it, it doesn't have an OS. When you turn it on it just loops the 'HTC Quietly Brilliant' boot loop, holding power and Volume down boots it into a white screen with text (I think this is called HBOOT).
This is the information on this screen:

Plus options which I'm sure most of you are aware of.
When I select 'Recovery' it takes me to a picture of a phone with a large Exclamation mark (which is inside a triangle warning sign) over it. After a few moments I'm taken to the 'Android System Recovery' which I'm guessing is the stock recovery.
I've taken pictures of all these screens if anyone needs clarification and also of the back of the phone with the battery off (for the IMEI, etc).
What I've Tried:
I'll try make a list of everything I've tried here but I've tried a fair amount (nothing has actually effected the phone so it's still in it's original state).
Extracting the rom.zip from the RUU for the radio number of this phone and renamed it to update.zip. I then tried reading from update.zip from within 'Android System Recovery'. That didn't work, something about a signature not being valid.
Renaming the same rom.zip from 1. and renaming it to PC49IMG.zip/img so that the HBOOT screen could detect it but that was to no avail.
Running unrevoked(latest version) didn't work as the phone doesn't have an OS and every guide says to turn USB debugging on (which I can't do).
Running the RUU for this phone (which I judged from the RADIO version) didn't work either (it couldn't detect the phone).
Using ADB to push/flash recovery/boot/system and none of that has worked.
If I haven't provided some key piece of information then please let me know, I'd like to get this issue sorted as soon as possible!
Thanks in advance!
OK go to the development section and look for clockworkmod version 5.0.2.8 in pc49img format. Boot to bootloader with it on the root of the sdcard and Allow it to flash. Then flash rempuzzle or any other sense rom and your sorted pal

Thank you so much for the quick response!
I feel like this is getting somewhere now!
So I followed your advice and downloaded PC49IMG.zip from this post.
I copied it to the root of a clean 1GB SD card, booted the phone into Hboot which checks the connected SD card for a zip with that name, It comes up saying Loading PC49IMG.zip but then says 'No Image!'.
I know the SD card slot works and that the SD card works, am I doing anything wrong?
EDIT:
Just to keep the information on here up-to-date I've just posted in the thread I linked to earlier on in this post.

Fast boot will not work as that hboot does not have fastboot commands enabled pal. Give me 10 minutes to jump on the PC and I will help you out
edit: ok you definately need to use the pc49img method as your hboot does not have fastboot commands, the reason most people here can fastboot is the have revolutionary s-off, which added fastboot commands. i think either that phone came s-off or met with an xtc clip, hich has s-offed it and gave it sim unlock ect. so use the pc49img way of doing it, and keep the letters all caps, bar zip. like this PC49IMG.zip sometimes the bootloaders have a huff if its not worded right ;P

ok well if that fails, it could be a cid issue, but since your s-off should be easily sorted

copy this to the root of the sdcard.
when it finds it it should say "jumping to diag", should give you 2 options, select diag. it should then come up with another 2 options of clean s58 data and device info. go down to device info first and look through it to check if the cid is 11111111.
if it is not copy it down.
then keep flicking through and it should bring you back to the clean s58data menu. clean the s58data. it should say readcid success and write cid success, or something along those lines. when it has finished reboot the device and leave it to see if it fully boots again.
this file is a leaked htc diagnostics utility, used with the xtc clip to s-off and give supercid and sim unlock. since you are s-0ff it will run and do its job, with the added bonus that it will hardcore factory reset the device wiping everything from it, hopefully fixing the bootloop in the process. if it does not then you will definately have supercid and be able to use any ruu you need to good luck and report back
I've cracked it!!!!
I was in the process of following the steps in your latest post. I was getting more frustrated because the diag file STILL wasn't being picked up by Hboot and I was at a loss.
I remembered I had an 8GB SD card not being used so I decided it was worth a try to repeat some of these steps with that in it. IT WORKED!
Hboot instantly picked up the diag utitility which makes me think that what was stopping me was that hboot doesn't like SD cards below 2GB (something I'd read about when unlocking my ZTE Skate).
So I restarted the phone with just the PC49IMG.zip on the sd card and low and behold it flashed CWM onto the recovery. Well. As anyone will tell you once you've got CWM on there then everything is nice and dandy! I flashed the latest CyanogenMod 7.2 nightly onto the phone, flashed the gapps and voila the phone is booting into CM7!!!
Thank you so much for your help in this heavy_metal_man, without you taking the time out to answer my questions I would have been lost!
Again, thank you so much. MY ISSUE IS RESOLVED!!!!

Can you be specific as to what's happening?
Tapped out from my sexy nexus 7

Cannot access recover mode

So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

The one step here I'm halted by is producing a Goldcard - the link to the website on the tool doesn't work any more (I've scoured t'internet, and that's the general consensus). Any idea where else I can input the CID to get a Goldcard Image?
Also how do I run the RUU on my computer? What file is it in the HTC Desire Android Upgrade folder I need to run? Afterall, there's no file titled 'RUU.exe'
Thanks

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.
