[Q] buzz Wildfire Brick - No ROM, no CWM - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so I've been searching for about a week; Google, XDA, forums, everything.
Backstory:
My friend found this wildfire at a bus stop, it had no Sim in it but an SD card (which he gave to a friend and has since been wiped).
I've unlocked and rooted a ZTE Skate (Orange Monte Carlo) for use with a GiffGaff Sim and Cyanogen. I'm quite computer Savvy and thought that I'd easily be able to do the same thing with this phone, with Google anything is possible!
Current Condition:
It's in the same state as when I got it, it doesn't have an OS. When you turn it on it just loops the 'HTC Quietly Brilliant' boot loop, holding power and Volume down boots it into a white screen with text (I think this is called HBOOT).
This is the information on this screen:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-1.01.0001
MICROP-0622
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_20aa
RADIO-3.35.20.10

Plus options which I'm sure most of you are aware of.
When I select 'Recovery' it takes me to a picture of a phone with a large Exclamation mark (which is inside a triangle warning sign) over it. After a few moments I'm taken to the 'Android System Recovery' which I'm guessing is the stock recovery.
I've taken pictures of all these screens if anyone needs clarification and also of the back of the phone with the battery off (for the IMEI, etc).
What I've Tried:
I'll try make a list of everything I've tried here but I've tried a fair amount (nothing has actually effected the phone so it's still in it's original state).
Extracting the rom.zip from the RUU for the radio number of this phone and renamed it to update.zip. I then tried reading from update.zip from within 'Android System Recovery'. That didn't work, something about a signature not being valid.
Renaming the same rom.zip from 1. and renaming it to PC49IMG.zip/img so that the HBOOT screen could detect it but that was to no avail.
Running unrevoked(latest version) didn't work as the phone doesn't have an OS and every guide says to turn USB debugging on (which I can't do).
Running the RUU for this phone (which I judged from the RADIO version) didn't work either (it couldn't detect the phone).
Using ADB to push/flash recovery/boot/system and none of that has worked.
If I haven't provided some key piece of information then please let me know, I'd like to get this issue sorted as soon as possible!
Thanks in advance!

OK go to the development section and look for clockworkmod version 5.0.2.8 in pc49img format. Boot to bootloader with it on the root of the sdcard and Allow it to flash. Then flash rempuzzle or any other sense rom and your sorted pal

Thank you so much for the quick response!
I feel like this is getting somewhere now!
So I followed your advice and downloaded PC49IMG.zip from this post.
I copied it to the root of a clean 1GB SD card, booted the phone into Hboot which checks the connected SD card for a zip with that name, It comes up saying Loading PC49IMG.zip but then says 'No Image!'.
I know the SD card slot works and that the SD card works, am I doing anything wrong?
EDIT:
Just to keep the information on here up-to-date I've just posted in the thread I linked to earlier on in this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566677&page=4
When I try and flash recover it says:

I haven't tried removing the current recovery and putting cwm on with your alternative method because I'm scared that it won't let me write again and I'll just have no recovery and no hope for the phone!

This is what happened when I extracted recovery.img from PC49IMG.zip and tried to flash it over fastboot.

Fast boot will not work as that hboot does not have fastboot commands enabled pal. Give me 10 minutes to jump on the PC and I will help you out
edit: ok you definately need to use the pc49img method as your hboot does not have fastboot commands, the reason most people here can fastboot is the have revolutionary s-off, which added fastboot commands. i think either that phone came s-off or met with an xtc clip, hich has s-offed it and gave it sim unlock ect. so use the pc49img way of doing it, and keep the letters all caps, bar zip. like this PC49IMG.zip sometimes the bootloaders have a huff if its not worded right ;P

ok well if that fails, it could be a cid issue, but since your s-off should be easily sorted

Okay so what can you suggest for me to try next?

copy this to the root of the sdcard.
when it finds it it should say "jumping to diag", should give you 2 options, select diag. it should then come up with another 2 options of clean s58 data and device info. go down to device info first and look through it to check if the cid is 11111111.
if it is not copy it down.
then keep flicking through and it should bring you back to the clean s58data menu. clean the s58data. it should say readcid success and write cid success, or something along those lines. when it has finished reboot the device and leave it to see if it fully boots again.
this file is a leaked htc diagnostics utility, used with the xtc clip to s-off and give supercid and sim unlock. since you are s-0ff it will run and do its job, with the added bonus that it will hardcore factory reset the device wiping everything from it, hopefully fixing the bootloop in the process. if it does not then you will definately have supercid and be able to use any ruu you need to good luck and report back

I've cracked it!!!!
I was in the process of following the steps in your latest post. I was getting more frustrated because the diag file STILL wasn't being picked up by Hboot and I was at a loss.
I remembered I had an 8GB SD card not being used so I decided it was worth a try to repeat some of these steps with that in it. IT WORKED!
Hboot instantly picked up the diag utitility which makes me think that what was stopping me was that hboot doesn't like SD cards below 2GB (something I'd read about when unlocking my ZTE Skate).
So I restarted the phone with just the PC49IMG.zip on the sd card and low and behold it flashed CWM onto the recovery. Well. As anyone will tell you once you've got CWM on there then everything is nice and dandy! I flashed the latest CyanogenMod 7.2 nightly onto the phone, flashed the gapps and voila the phone is booting into CM7!!!
Thank you so much for your help in this heavy_metal_man, without you taking the time out to answer my questions I would have been lost!
Again, thank you so much. MY ISSUE IS RESOLVED!!!!

[Q] RUU restore for warranty fails: error 140. Anyone can help?

Hi guys,
I own a Fastweb branded desire and back key isn't working anymore.
So I'm tring to restore the branded official rom for warranty.
I got s-off and root and my gold card is in.
I've flashed the old modaco r6 rom to avoid main version is older and flashed downgrade hboot(alpharev) too.
When I start the ruu hboot 0.75 and old radio are flashed properly, but I still have custom splash and cwm recovery also system is untouched.
Ruu stops with error 140 bootloader problem.
I'm still able to flash custom roms and I can s-off again, but I really don't know what to do.
Any help?
Thanks.
Best regards.

Sorry mate, is there a way to change section?
jussy,
I had exactly the same problem so I'll answer even tho this is the wrong thread. You have to start first by extracting the zip file from the RUU. Run the RUU until it gets to the first screen then leave it there (don't close it).
Go to Start -> Run and type %temp%.
Find the temporary folder folder that's just been created (sort based on date) and find a file called 'rom.zip'. Copy this file into another location and close the RUU.

Thanks for replay.
I've extracted rom.zip and renamed to PB99IMG.zip. tried to flash it in fastboot.
Flash process start but stops before finishing leave me in the same situation as before. If I want to flash it again gives me main version is older.
I've s-off it 10 times today and made many try.
EDIT: I've also tried to flash via fastboot commander the .img files in rom.zip but after that I could only access fastboot.
Now I've flash a generic ruu to make it boot.
Tbh mate I'm not sure how to change it lol.. mayb delete and repost in q&a..

Dude, don't flash the zip, just put it in the root of your SD, then switch phone off, hold vol down button and reboot into recovery, your phone will recognize the pb99img.zip and some options should come up. Follow the on screen instructions and you should be unrooted in 15 mins max.

Sorry for my bad english but what you said is what I've done.
1-root and s-off.
2-flash downgrade hboot(alpharev).
3-put PB99IMG.zip (extract as said from my branded ruu) on sd card root.
4-boot power + vol down.
5-It starts, step 1 goes well then at the end of step 2 screen became black and came back with 0.75 hboot s-on and if I try again it gives me main version is older.
So I can only reboot, reflash a rom and s-off it again.
Never ending loop...
Thanks anyway.

I've got my gold card already in.
Sadly there's only one ruu for my carrier.
I can flash a generic froyo ruu but it's not good for warranty.
I can't really help in terms of your issue.
If I remember right, I booted into the bootloader and switched on fastboot, then ran the RUU EXE making sure my phone was connected to my pc.
It eventually came right.
Saying that, after I got the stock ROM back on, my phone went ape (and to this day I have no idea why). Random restarts. Freezing. It was crazy. I had to upgrade the RUU for it to stay on properly. Was really weird.
There are so many threads about rooting for warrantee purposes, perhaps search them or go through thier instructions, cause I'm sure someone may have had the same issue.
Wish I could help you though.

Now this is the second time I bring it to assistence (last time was for vol down) and when they give it back to me it was updated to froyo.
I'm facing problem with 1.15=>1.21 OTA, installation is aborted due to status 7 (if some one can help I'll post the full error message).
Unfortunetly the ruu I've used is the only one from my carrier.
Will they know that my phone was updated by them and I'll lose my warranty?
Any idea about fixing status 7?
Many thanks.

[Q] Which RUU for HBOOT 0.80.0002

Hi, trying to fix my Wildfire and i've got a bit stuck.
It currently won't boot and hangs on the vodafone bootlogo, eventually after a long wait says "SORRY: Process system is not repsonding".
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0002
MICROP-0622
TOUCH PANEL-AMTEL224_16ab
RADIO-3.35.15.31
I can up+power boot and have tried repeatedly to RECOVER and CLEAR STORAGE
but this sees the same result. From what i've gleemed from reading alot of posts and trying numerous things I can't S-OFF as I can't boot.
Only thing that appears to make a difference is running an RUU once vodafone logo comes up and then the phone will go into bootloader but I am getting Errors.
Tried a few versions :
RUU_Bee_Alltel_WWE_1.07.671.2_Radio_1.00.00.1001_NV_Alltel_2_60_NoCNV_release_152081_signed.exe
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe
RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_130814_signed.exe
None of these have actually worked yet and give me various errors. Most progress so far is with error [131] Customer ID Error, which I believe is because I'm not using the correct version.
So any help with which version I should use would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
This might help.

Stay clear of the Bee RUU. The Bee is a different phone compared to the Buzz (Wildfire) and you might end up damaging your phone more. For Error 131, you will need to create a Goldcard. Guide can be found in the link posted above (Pt 3) by sly.

your best bet is to use the goldcard and upgrade to hboot 1.01.0001 (think thats it.) so then you can use revolutionary to s-off
Thankyou all for your replys.
I too think the answer is to create a gold card.
But as I said in my post the reason for trying to flash is that i CAN'T boot and i believe having read numerous guides on making a goldcard you need to be able to boot.
Is there a way to make a gold card without booting or do I need to look at a different solution/method?

gold card is created on sdcard i think,so use a usb card reader hooked up to pc to create the gold card.
A Goldcard is indeed created on the microSD but you need the phone booted and connected to get the CID to created the godlcard
Unless there is another way to get CID then I don't think this is going to be possible. I did ready about mtty.exe but I don't know how to use it or if it is also possible without the phone being once again booted
Thanks for trying to help, all input is appreciated

I'm pretty sure you can do a data reset from HBOOT:
Using the Volume UP + DOWN keys, scroll down to DATA RESET and select it using the POWER button. I'm not sure if it is exactly called DATA RESET, might be FACTORY RESET or something along those lines. When you select that, doesn't it reset everything?
Good luck
That's clear storage, I'm not sure but I think it formats the sd, i think to get to the stock recovery choose recovery from hboot then press vol up + power, there may be something in there to help but it's nowhere near as advanced as Cwm.
Is there any way the htcdev bootloader unlock could help?
I mean if you can get partial s-off with that then you can fastboot flash Cwm and wipe everything.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Clear storage doesn't erase the SD card.
I know that, because when I go back to a sense ROM I install a fix (for the wallpapers and stuff) that requires me to Clear storage.
Oh, I've never done it before, what's it wipe then, just apps and App data?

Pretty much the same thing as Data wipe/Factory reset in CWM.
Delets the /data partition (Not sure about sdext though)
Well tried a few more things and still no advancement...
Can't create a gold card because I ...
Can't get me CID because I ...
Can't boot ...
Any ideas ? ?
Normally, it should be solved by flashing a Vodafone RUU, but I cant seem to find one for the Wildfire...
Anyway, one more suggestion, have you tried rooting your device via Unrevoked from the HBoot menu itself? If that does work out, you can get Clockworkmod Recovery which should help in flashing a generic ROM. Guide here:

Help in solving bootloader issue

Please I have a peculiar problem, I pray you can assist me. I tried to root my telus dhd using advanced hack kit, after running the hack kit the phone failed to reboot. It stock at a blank bLack screen. To solve that, I mistakenly flash a froyo pd98img on a GB ROM. Since then, the phone takes about 20 to 30 minutes to boot. It will start with a splash screen and vibrate for about 10 minutes then takes another 10 minutes to boot. The problem is I can't enter boot loader and I can't use the hack kit again to return to stock since the phone won't reboot in the process.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks for your time.
And why exactly can't you enter the bootloader? Remove and re-insert your battery, Press Vol Down and Power button to boot into the bootloader.
Can you post the text that appears on the bootloader? Is your phone S-OFF yet?

Ok, this is what you have to do. I sent you the pastebin link in the IRC channel yesterday but afterwards attn1 told me that that solution would not work in your case. You need to flash that HBOOT in this way:

Ok, this is what you have to do. I sent you the pastebin link in the IRC channel yesterday but afterwards attn1 told me that that solution would not work in your case. You need to flash that HBOOT in this way:

I sent the code, the phone rebooted to a black HTC screen, and has been on it for almost an hour now? Is it normal? Tanks for the help, it's appreciated.
It shows white screen now with the following information:
Ace pvt ship s-on
Hboot-0. 85.0007
Macrop -0438
Radio 26.03.04.26_m
RUU
What should I do next?

that is normal as you don´t have a RUU in your phone. Does it still take long time to boot in hboot? from there you should be able to flash a RUU as that hboot supports multiple CIDs
I don't think it worked as he is still showing the .007 boot which is froyo.
Question why wouldn't your guide work in this case? Is it because of it being the nam version(pd12000 vs pd10000)? Hboot versions not interchangeable?or something else that as mentioned in the irc

to be strictly plain I am not quite sure..but Attn1 told me that the fix in the guide will only work with just one RUU build 1.32.xxx can't remember now. So he has to flash a new hboot that will allow multiple CIDs...

Just one question...when you flashed the hboot did you get the OKAY.finished in the command prompt? Your is still at slow motion for booting??
If the answers to the question are: Yes. No...then you can flash an unbranded RUU and it should work. :good:

No, I didn't get OKAY in the command, It didn't show finished. The phone screen just showed black with HTC written on it for almost two hours. Then eventually it rebooted to white screen withe info I posted above. Yes it's still at the motion boot.

Then I don´t think you have flashed the hboot....the process will take 2 or 3 hours I guess. You need to get OKAY. Finished near the end to know that you have achived the goal.
If you want I can lend you a hand via teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/) but you have to put the phone in fastboot usb first. When you are there just send me the ID and PASS over a Private Message (PM)...

[Q] Help....bootloop after Revolutionary (radio problem)

I followed the instructions on here to flash my DINC2 with TACOROOT and then used REVOLUTIONARY to obtain s-off. However I got an error message when I tried to enter the command "fastboot flash zip 1.09.01.0312_vivow_Radio_PG32IMG.zip" when the bootloader screen came up on the Droid. Now it is boot looping. I have tried to use that command several times all to no avail. I would get errors, and most recently the message is "waiting for device".
I am at a dead end and not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.
Name the radio PG32IMG.zip and put it in your sdcard and boot into bootloader

Thanks! That worked great. No more boot loop and it is telling me that I have Android 2.3.3 and software number 2.18.605.3. However, after running Revolutionary one more time to make sure I was in s-off, I can no longer boot into Hboot once I have rebooted. Nothing happens when I push the Vol- and Power at the same time.....when I release the buttons it boots normally.
Any ideas?

Don't let go of volume down until it gets to the bootloader screen.
Why did you run revolutionary again. Should a just checked by loading into hboot
Plug your phone up and in cmd prompt. Type.
Adb reboot bootloader
I think that's it. I'll double check

Great. Thanks a million! I used Rooted and now on to the adventure. SuperSU_V0.93 to achieve Super User. Dumping some bloatware via Titanium Backup Pro. Any thoughts on a good custom ROM? What are some good beginner tweeks to this thing? I would think there is a lot better stuff out ther other than the regular HTC and Verizon stuff.....

Roms are a never ending debate around here. There are a lot of good ones. I recommend you try a few and see what you like. Try a sense one, a miui one, aosp ones...You'll want to spend some time on the forum reading around and seeing what people are saying. There are also several threads dedicated to discussing "best" roms.
Wow.......way too much fun. I left work a couple hours early just to go mess with this Droid. My wife just gave me a strange look....LOL! Thanks everyone for your advice and help!

Just put the Radio on the root of your SD card. Rename it PG32IMG.zip. Reboot your phone into hboot and it will ask if you wish to install the update. Select yes by using the volume up/down buttons. Once yes is highlighted use the power button to select it. After the Radio has updated remove the PG32IMG.zip from the root of the SD. Then reboot the phone and it should work.

If you have the adb tools on your computer, "adb push radio.zip /sdcard/PG32IMG.zip"
If not, shut it down, pull out the sdcard, and insert it into your computer. Copy the zip file to the top directory and eject it.

I'm stuck in a boot loop after trying to flash the radio zip. I also tried the method of copying over the renamed PG32IMG.zip onto my SD card... With the SD card method, what I get at HBOOT were:
SD Checking...
Loading... [PG32DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading... [PG32DIAG.nbh]
No Image or wrong image!
Loading... [PG32IMG.zip]
Checking... [PG32IMG.zip]
Then back to HBOOT. I'm still S-ON, HBOOT-0.97.0000 and Radio-1.09.01.0622. Any ideas?

I did everything to be s-off, I used revolutionary I download more than 5 custom ROM and it turns out that now the Cellphone doesn't recognize the radio, I mean the SIMcard and CDMA, No service is the message for every ROM, I decide to Install the original RUU, but still be the same issue.
I don't know what to now,
Note: before set s-off I unlock the phone.

I think you have to s-on your phone , then re-lock your phone through HTC dev , then s-off . if you htc-dev unlock your phone you have to relock before s-off

Cannot access recover mode

So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

The one step here I'm halted by is producing a Goldcard - the link to the website on the tool doesn't work any more (I've scoured t'internet, and that's the general consensus). Any idea where else I can input the CID to get a Goldcard Image?
Also how do I run the RUU on my computer? What file is it in the HTC Desire Android Upgrade folder I need to run? Afterall, there's no file titled 'RUU.exe'
Thanks

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.
