Just thought I would share that this app works great with the nexus 4. It actually is running flawless for me right now go check it out in play store. You can control your led light on the front of the device with just about any notification and color
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlite
Yeah I love light flow I use it on my galaxy nexus
Luckily one of the android blog sites helped test the app so I managed to get a release out before the phone came out. I'd hoped to get one myself, but 10 cart errors later and they'd all gone!
Glad it seems to be working ok. I'm working on improving the calendar reminder notification as they seem to go a little crazy at the moment due to change in the way notifications are displayed now (ie snooze a notification and it won't totally disappear from your notification bar - you won't get an icon, but it's still there when you pull down the bar). So this is causing some extra notifications while on snooze, but I'm hoping to get a fix out for it soon. At least I can recreate it on my galaxy nexus on 4.2.
I was getting my led glowing randomly since installing so I uninstalled.. Was I doing something wrong?
Also how badly does lightflow affect the battery?
Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I have the full version.
I've noticed some colours aren't working properly. eg. Indigo will show the some colour LED as red, Navy and Blue look the same too.
Would really appreciate if someone could make a list of all the true colours that actually work?

A couple of things with this. Swiping away notifications won't stop the led at the moment: vote for this android feature request here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23106
Also try adding the light flow debugger widget to a homescreen as that will tell you which notifications it thinks are on.
As for battery drain, I think it varies for different people depending on what settings they use. I try to set the default app settings to be fairly sensible on battery drain.

I'm planning in a future release to have a section where you can remap the preset colors to new RGB values as it's one of those things that varies a little from phone to phone. The colors were originally based on what the nexus one could manage (it was probably the best phone for color representation) and then tweaked a little for the galaxy nexus.
As I've not seen a nexus 4 (stupid google play checkout errors) yet I've not been able to experiment.
I installed the lite app, dunno why, my led was active all the time (white colour), even without notifications or plane mode. I uninstalled the app, and now my led doesnt work (Nexus 4)
I'd really like to jump on board with this app, but after a report of "My LED doesn't work anymore" I'm scared. I think I'll wait for the dev to get his own n4 to work out n4 specific kinks/quirks.

Regarding to this, I have to say that the custom color mode works very straight for me, the color that I chose is the colour what I see (taking into account the obvious deviations from IPS and RGB led, of course).
Under Settings there's something that says "Additional LEDs Found" and there's 4 LEDs there:
lcd-backlight control
lm3530 control
pm8xxx-led control
spotlight control
Any idea what these are for?
Thanks

Also curious about this.
Also, it does seem to work well so far, but testing the LED in-app does not work. Any idea why this is?
Anyone having problems with Gmail? If I set Light Flow to use priority inbox I don't get notification lights. If I uncheck use priority inbox then it works.

the testing does work. when you get the popup about waiting 5 seconds, immediately click the wake/power button and you should see the led trigger the tests.
Developer said Priority Inbox isn't working right under 4.2. Will be fixed once a fix is found. Regular inbox is fine.

I have a weird bug with LightFlow. When it is enabled i will randomly get Accessibility voice when inside chrome. Like, she will say "NEW TAB" or she will call out the page title of every thing. Then if I disable light Flow, the bug is gone.
Would like to use it but if with this here....i can't. Unless i got something set up wrong, but i check all accessibility settings and they are off except for light flow

Check other Lightflow threads. I remember reading about on the S3 thread or GN thread. I've never had it happen, but remember some other people talking about it.
Tested it a couple of day and is not working properly, light notifications are very slow to get dismissed and sometimes the led blink without a reason

What? No. Outside of only inbox and not priority inbox it's working great. Same as on my S3. It sounds like you didn't properly setup your dismiss settings for how you want it. There are a lot of options.

I have tried LED Flash, Moment Flash, Falaxy Flash, and more from the market than I can count or remember and so far none work.
**Edit**
List of apps that work
WINNER: Tiny flashight + LED
The best option IMO
This is the real deal here. Works perfect and adds some other neat features. Thanks doink123 for developing this great app and for making it free for all of us,
The only single, tiny little complaint (or rather, suggestion) is a widget to toggle the LED on/off, but other than that, amazing.
Runner Up 1) Power Control Plus - $1.99 In The Market)
It works as a widget to toggle the LED on and off. And it works great, only down side is it is $1.99. For me, I use the flashlight on a daily basis so it is worth it for me until a free alternative is found or developed. it does have a lot of other great feaures to but you can read those in the market.
Runner Up 2) Instant Heart Read - Free In The Market
An app to check your hearbeat, but instantly turns the LED on so it works as a flashlight app. Kind of a cool app anyways, I am leaving this on my phone just for fun.
Dunno about the Epic... hard to say. But on my EVO I use "LED Desire light" which gets very bright when turned up all the way (probably because the EVO has 2 LEDs). And it has a widget.
Hopefully they make a compatible app/widget for the Epic flash soon. EpicFlash would be a nice sequal to MomentFlash (love this)
Well I found an app that works... sort of.
It is called Flashligh LED
The app itself is very basic. It does not turn the light on/off like a toggle. Rather, there is a timer and when you hit the button, it turns on the light for X amount of time.
Now, the app will turn on the light, but only for about 1 second or so, no matter what you change the time setting to.
Still not what I am looking for, but getting closed. Woot!
Nexus One Torch was my favorite on my Nexus! The widget matched perfectly with the Galaxy TW theme!
I surprisingly use the flashlight ALOT.

Bump. Hopefully now that this device is released someone can take a stab at this. Woot.
I'm using Power Control Plus from the Market & when you add flashlight as one of your buttons it works! It turns on & off the light with no problems. It is a slight delay when turning the light on.
^Awsome tried it and it worked. Thanks!!
I can confirm it Power control plus works, such an elegant solution, better than some cheesy flash light picture taking up the whole screen.
Thanks journeyman73!
Just so you can fix it OP, its Power Control Plus is $1.99.

Right, it's what I'm using at the moment. As an addendum, you can turn the flash on and off with the icon in the top right.
Hi guys,
I've just released Tiny Flashlight + LED v2.2. I tried to make it work on Epic 4G by guessing the right parameters (because I don't have an Epic 4G device).
Can you check it and tell me if it works?
Sorry great app but led did not light up
Confirmed, Tiny Flashlight does not light up the LED on my epic.
I reorganised the first post with the new apps that have been found to work.

So LED shows up now, and clicking the power turns it on, w00t!
There is a little red label above the power button that always says 0%, what controls that?
Also, the power button doesn't turn the light off, but exiting the app does so this is much better than what we had before!

Anyone know if there has been a mod/script/patch/app to allow for customisation of the LED notification yet?
Lightflow doesn't seem to work on ICS and haven't been able to find anything else - would love to tweak it - happy to test - my nexus is root ready for anyone wanting to make me a crash test.
Cheers.

LightFlow work (check "Run in foreground")
LightFlow works fine for me. Notification LED is only shown when the screen is off.
...If you didn't already know that...
LightFlow works for me about 60-80% of the time. But it's not very reliable.
Light Flow seems to work for me okay so far. The only issue is that the colors aren't "true." What I mean by that is that my "yellow" glow has some red and green in it as well, especially around the edges of the notification light.
Anyone else seeing this?

Since we don't have LED notifications you guys can check out Dynamic Notifications. Gives a nice clean look to notifications https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications
What's wrong with Flash Alerts 2? I use it all the time, if you opt for it, you can buy the premium version, I just use the free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.megawave.flashalerts
He didn't say there was something wrong with it, apparently he prefers that app. Does flash alerts give led notification? I thought it was just a flash from the flashlight.

so basicly the second screen but full screen i dont get it this phone has the best notifications ever just put date and time as your secound screen off mode then turn see all notifications on on the lock screen and boom second screen shows when you miss a call double time the screen and you see who it is. why would you install and app that turns on the screen when you have a second screen just for that. or am i missing something
Can't see it from a distance. Led is great for that.

well i've had notes up untill now and i cant say i missed the led i actually didnt even realize the phone didnt have one till i saw this post. seeing that all it did was say hey unlock your phone something is happening lol now i look and i see oh its just and email back in the pocket you go. i think this is better cause now your phone doesnt have a light that says to everyone i'm checking a message of some kind lol now it just looks like i'm checking the time.
Led was great, color coded for text messages, email, missed calls, etc. But hey, if you are happy, I'm happy for you.

:good: Thanks I was all set to download an app. No need now!
Easy solution to those missing the led, we can just make an app that makes the second screen flash different colors at full brightness. Heck let's turn it on permanently and the screen and go rainbow in equal divisions of color based on the order the notifications come in. I'm tempted to put a /s on this but I think I might actually use it if it became available...

Agreed. The camera led is obnoxious. Brighter, blinking, colored images on the second screen needs to happen.....why on earth are All the second screen notifications white?!
Also.....missed call AND text reminders need to be standard on new devices. Is there a rational explanation why my brand new tech still needs an app for common sense stuff?

Wow thanks for that!!!
NO LED
IF we can get this app to display on the second screen I think we will have a almost perfect solution:
NoLED app by madmac
For rooted phones w/ Xposed, just get the enable ambient display module.
Like most, I feel really empty without the LED.. I've been using, and have been dependent on the LED ever since my beloved Nexus One
and every Nexus/Pixel since..
Giving thanks:
Forcing us to pick up our phone just to see if we have any notifications is just uncalled for.
I want to check my phone when I want to, not because I have to.
I've tried pretty much every alternative out there -- they either didnt work how i wanted, or were just too ugly how they displayed the info.
Welp, enough rambling. Let me get to the point.
Lets us all give a round of applause to @grokus,
for providing us non-led'ers a true solution in the hell storm that has been created over this whole ordeal :victory:
He's been taking suggestions on what to include as well!
Behold, "Pixel Pulse"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
Description:
- Pixel Pulse uses the systems ambient display, in a VERY minimal, clean, efficient, time interval approach, to display whatever app you want to 'pop up'
- Pixel Pulse will 'cycle through' each app if multiple notifications are present
- Notifications can either be displayed as; icon only, icon + app name, icon + notification title, icon + title + content, or a mixture of all three depending on the app(s) you choose.
- Color choices, and more
How to use:
- Must have Ambient Display enabled. - (I just have the 'tap to touch' slider on).
- Have 'New Notifications' (Inside Ambient Display settings) enabled. - (This just allows Pixel Pulse to take over how to display the notifications).
- Battery Optimization (for this app) disabled. - (So the system continues the run the app without shutting the app down) ---- Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization > Pixel Pulse app > Don't Optimize.
- Go back into the app, set everything up as you like; colors, the time interval between pulses, what apps to display, how to display, etc
Going a Step Further:
- Once you have everything enabled you will be greeted with a persistent notification that displays "Pixel Pulse is Running". This notification will be present at ALL times; pulsing like a notification when the screen is off and in the notification drop down. Lets get rid of this (look at the next line).
- Settings > Apps & Notifications > Pixel Pulse app > Notifications > uncheck Pixel Pulse is Running > Enjoy :good:
And there you have it! Enjoy your new LED notifications haha  -- Cant wait to see future development.
Thanks so much for the mention! I'll subscribe to this thread so if anyone has any issues or requests feel free to post them here.
I came across this a few days ago and even donated to get the pro features but for the life of me couldn't get the repeating pulse to work. It would show when I got a notification but then never repeat no matter how many seconds I set the interval to so I just gave up on it.

Yep, ambient display is turned on (tap to view) and set to wake screen with new notifications. Have Pixel Pulse enabled with notification access, interval set to 10 seconds, apps configured and timeout set to 0.
I think this one would be a better implementation for notifications because it does a light ring around the phone AND a pop up toast for the app.

Don't have DND on and made sure to disable all battery optimizations so that wouldn't affect it either. I'll keep messing around with it though cause it seems like it's just the app I'm looking for at least until OnePlus implements an AOD or someone makes a working AOD port down the road.

Absolutely!
However, if i may give one .. maybe two suggestions.. lol
1. While its pulsing, with hidden content.. Maybe remove the "pixel pulse" name and only show the icon itself? thatll clean it up a bit more i think.. (also: when new message is received, the content still displays, but then 'goes away' and continues to pulse without the content -- is that intended?).
2. When you have multiple notifications; gmail, sms, etc .. maybe have the notification cycle through each app every pulse? (first pulse could show the sms, then the next pulse, gmail, etc..) Or 'stack' them (maybe 3 at the most?) on top of each other while it pulses? .. So you get to see all three apps at one time? Or a combinations of those if you have multiple notifications from various apps? ..
Hope i made sense :silly: -- i can elaborate if need be ha

I only have a Pixel to test on right now so please bear with me while I try to understand this.
I suspect that the first wake up might be your device's initial wake but I could be wrong.
I'll be adding a way to only show icons in addition to the hide content option (like the ninja mode).
On the pixel they do scroll through all current notifications each pulse. The pixel only shows one full notification at a time. What happens on your device? I can try other ways if you're willing to test it for me.

I'm liking this a bit better than a couple of the other apps mentioned throughout the OP6T Forum .
Your set-up notes in the OP got me to give it a look & once set-up & tested,I immediately went to this one as my go-to LED Notification replacement.
Those who choose to use this or any other LED replacement apps are going to see usage in the battery stats.
This may be near the top in usage,my suggestion is don't get caught up in the numbers, just use your phone as you normally would.
You may see less remaining at the end of the day vs not using it at all, but,I'm willing to bet it won't be close to a "panic" / "wall-hugger" level.
If this wasn't using battery/in-use,the next app or process in line would be showing the higher % use, hence the tail-chasing of the battery life discussions,LOL.
I recommend anyone give this a shot & support the developer if possible............. :good:

I got my 7T yesterday was wondering the same thing, given that it's been a cornerstone of most every phone I've owned. So I did some searching around and found this, which seems to be working great, and is developed by an XDA member.

There is a thread about it here:

Using it now. It evens allows to put the light wherever we want. On my car, i only see the bottom of the phone.
Looks great so far!
Although "Notify Buddy" is a very nice app and works on Oneplus 7T i found out that it has a quiet high battery consumption. There are two other apps, that worked fine for OP 6T:
"Plus Beat"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vaf.vishal.plusbeat
"Pixel Pulse"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
They both need a workaround to be usefull on OP 7T:
- notification change to "important"
- enable popup on lockscreen
- disable "stealth mode" in app
Under this circumstandes they work fine!
Have fun with your new Oneplus!

Yup, unsinstalled notify buddy precisely for that, wasting too much battery.
I have pulse beat here, but doesn't seem to work. Going to disable stealth mode. And enable it on lockscreen. O7t here.

ok I got it to work. But it seems like everytime it pulses the fingerprint scanner is there as well. For 1 thing its too bright, 2nd i'm concerned about battery life and burn in. What can we do with this?

I dont know another way. battery life is okay with plus beat, burn in depends on the frequency and time...
have a nice day!
Plus beat is much more battery friendly than nottify buddy.
There is no way to sey PB notifications to important, at least i don't see it. Android 10 on 7t here. But ir's working good with stealth mode disabled.
Not quite the same.. But I use an app called Glimpse, works perfectly for me, it lights the screen up when a notification comes In, I set mine to light the screen up for 30 seconds, gives me chance to read it unlike the oneplus light up screen setting which lasts for 8 seconds.
you can select apps for notifications.
you can set screen on time and you can set it to repeat alert until checked based on a time setting...
The app is light on background battery usage.
The app is also well supported on the Xda forums...
Couple of tips, turn off the built in oneplus light up screen setting or Glimpse will not work correctly.
Also consider turning off optimisation in the battery settings and locking the app, so that android does not close it down in the background.
The app is free and ad free from the Google store.

I also use a xiaomi Mi band 4 with my oneplus 7t, I set my phone to silent, use the mii band app to send the watch notifications, via vibration from my selected apps, sooooo much better than the phone beeping loudly, it disturbs nobody, more zen like... Plus the Mi band 4 is low cost, very long battery life, Amoled screen, works wonderfully...
Plus the notification message can be partially seen on the Mi band.
Looks interesting. For now, plus beat does the job, but i would like for it to stop showing notifications after you see them in the status bar.
