does anybody know or has anyone heard anything about the touch pro 2 on at&t? when i saw HTC's leaked '09 lineup, it said the barium was for at&t, and the barium looks like the TP2. i read on the at&t forum that the barium indeed is the TP2 for at&t. if this is true i really hope it doesnt look the way it did in the leak. i hope it looks just like the TP2 on the htc website. i mean cmon, the barium has a green keyboard! anyway, if anyone knows of any tips or has any info, please reply!

LOL sorry but dont worry I dought that it will have a green keybaord, but if it does... lol
but I think T-mobile messed up the design too but it seems more realistic, but like seriously why do they do tha?t HTC knows what they're doing you don't have to make the design worse to make the phone nique, but oh well I wich t-mobile didnt mess up the back, and also the front doesnt look NEARLY as good either, and in leaked pics they took off the crhome part on the side, like OMG THEY COMPLETELY RUINED THE FRAME but oh well, I guess its not that it looks bad its just that it looks ugly next to the original touch pro 2 but lol i still dont think the [email protected] version will have a green keyboard

man I really hope it doesn't have a green keyboard. I looked at pics of other carriers too, including AT&T. it doesn't even look like the front facing camera is there anymore. and the back doesn't look anything like the HTC branded model. I like the whole grille thing! and the silver back with black front. if carriers wanna make the phones they release unique, they shouldn't change so much of the hardware and the appearance. like you said, HTC's phones are already well-designed. but the carriers mess them up.
and link278, you're lucky! tmobile is the first carrier to announce the TP2 (supposedly) I hope AT&T is next!! I need an upgrade
are u talking about this pic?
I hope they dont do that because this phone is supposed to be targeted towards enterprise (business) and making it green gives it a childish look. regardless, i'd still buy it.

yep. that picture. yeah I agree I will still buy when it comes out (I already saved up enough money ). but they better not make it green. you reassured me I didn't really think about the business aspect of it.
I just wish I knew when exactly it would hit us AT&T users. I'm getting anxious

thanks but look at these pic:
that d474rpr put up, like really t-mobile did mess up the back too

adn they messed up the front too:

and according to this the front and back wasnt enough they had to mess up the side too:
http://www.new-cell-phones.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/htc-tungsten-cell-phone-t-mobile.jpg
I loved the original design why do carriers have to mess up the designs?
but like fone_fanatic said I will still get it lol.
but if it had a green keybaord, (which I am pretty sure wont happen) I would stick with my tilt till something better looking came around cause that would look really stuiped and kinda ugly it doesnt make sence to have a black sleek phone and then this dull green keybaord i nthe middle of it, I really like the metallic black and silver, that's my favorite color combo but whatever its not that bad its just disapointing I guess I could live with it. (The t-mobile design not a green keyboard lol)
No US carrier has announced the TP2 except Sprint and they were just internal sheets. Now, someone who leaked a few release dates for T-Mobile seems to be right on par. The HTC maple (July 1) just entered the FCC and seems to match up with was has been expected. The TP2 has yet to show anything at the FCC except a European/Asian model. Why the FCC has stats on a foreign model phone, I don't know but whatever. It seems if July 22nd is the correct date... T-Mobile will be the first to release the TP2 (the first "first" in US carrier history, lol)

What stood out to me on those pics at least was that the front facing camera is still there. However, that may just be a European T-Mobile thing. Still, I'm a little positive about it. That front facing camera could affect my next choice of carrier.
This is one of the reasons I am coming off T-Mobile and going to but the pro2 unbranded. They have to mess with everything and turn everything on your phone pink. I don't even like pink as a colour.
it's not only tmobile that messes around with phones' appearance. all carriers LOVE to make the phones unique, when HTC has already designed them well. I'm gonna buy the phone regardless; I just hope the keyboard isn't some wacked out color like green or pink or whatever.

I know I still want it too, I guess it still looks pretty nice, and alot better than a kaiser, but honestly, why do they have to make it unique by making it look worse? Like seriously HTC does know what they are doing why doesnt t-mobile just stick to giving people reception and puttign there name on the phone I dont mind T-mobile written on the phone but it looked so nice before, it had chrome on the sides, metalic black front and they ruined the buttons on hte fron too even thought its still metalic black, and also the back doesnt look nearly as good but oh well I should just be happy that it actually is coming to t-mobile but the original design made it the best looking phone that I have ever seen.
The TP2 is definitely in the cards for me as soon as it becomes available for AT&T. Has anyone seen a posted specualtion on that arrival date? I believe I read somewhere it could be as late as November for the TP2 from AT&T. If it is that long away... at least that gives me more time to save up some money. Because when it is launched for AT&T, and if it is green as the Barium pics show, that's enough to make me pay double the price to have HTC's unbranded clean looking version. If AT&T doesn't hack it up, then I'll be glad to purchase it through them.

i haven't heard anything regarding a definite release date for the TP2 on AT&T. but i have heard rumors that it will come out around the same time of the year that the tilt came out, which is october/november. it's late, but as long as it comes out i'm fine with it. like you said, it'll give us time to save up money. this phone IS coming out for AT&T right? More hippie/hacker than childish, but either way your point stands. I don't mind the back too much personally, but that keyboard is over the top. I'd prefer something a little more subtle.

The reason there is no front-facing camera on the TP2 is because no US carrier supports video calling.. yet
Are there any specs for the barium, yet? Like, does the screen tilt? tv-out?etc.?
i've been really curious about something: whats the deal with sim unlocked phones? if i buy a TP2 sim unlocked, i'd be able to use it with any carrier that has a sim card, correct? but my question is, would i be able to use the carriers bands with the phone? like, if i buy the TP2 and transfer my sim card from my tilt to the TP2, would i still get at&t's 3G network? i've never actually known the answer to this :/
It depends if the phone has the compatible frequencies. It usually will have the correct 3G frequencies if it's officially released in that country. Like the Kaiser has support for every frequency set you'd ever need, because it was released internationally, unlike the Touch HD, for example. I'm planning to buy my Touch Pro2 unlocked this time, so I don't have to put up with stupid AT&T. They always manage to ruin the devices in some way, whether it be the keyboard, the color, the Manilla 3D, or the bloatware, or some other travesty.
And, after rambling for a good paragraph or so, the short answer is yes, it should work on AT&T's 3G bands because it's being officially released in the US (confirmed by HTC on its twitter account).

Update
Feedback from many users of Samsung Galaxy S II phones appears to suggest that the display calibration problem is prevalent mostly in Qualcom based units. These include models from:
1. T-Mobile USA
2. AT&T Skyrocket
3. Telus Canada
4. Rogers Canada
The Exynos based Samsung Galaxy S II phones are known to be calibrated considerably better. These include models from:
1. Sprint
2. AT&T (non-Skyrocket model)
3. International version
End update
Many people are complaining about the quality of their T-Mobile SGSII displays. I noticed the problems myself and decided to perform some detailed testing.
Here is how you can reproduce the simple test:
Download the blobs.jpg to your phone. A copy of blobs.jpg is attached here. Or simply point the browser on your phone to: http://cheema.com/blobs.jpg Tap and hold the dark gray rectangle and then select "Save image" from the menu. Note that it is not entirely black. It is dark grey. Testing with a black screen gives you false hope that your display is good.
Turn off automatic brightness and dial down the brightness all the way to make it as dark as possible. Go to Home->Settings->Display->Brightness.
Open up the "Gallery" application and locate the blobs.jpg in the download folder and view it in a mostly dark room.
At this point you'll probably see a greenish display with vertical lines and dots all over. If you see this you have what some of us call a bad/non-calibrated display. Based on the data I have seen so far, I think that all T-Mobile Galaxy S II owners suffer from this. Most people believe they have a good display because they do not have a the equivalent Sprint phone to compare with.
Results of detailed testing of T-Mobile SGSII screen
I performed the detailed tests with a total of 4 units. 2 from T-Mobile and 2 from Sprint. I set all phones to identical brightness level (lowest) and proceeded to run a few screen tests.
1. Blobs test
For this test I used Gallery application to display the blobs.jpg file attached here. [Click the pictures to see the full size versions]
I slowed the camera shutter down good bit so that I could see details that are not be visible to the naked eye. One thing was pretty clear, the Sprint phones (#1 and #3) had imperfections too. Lines and blobs. This made me think that perhaps all Super Amoled displays have them. However the reason nobody sees them on Sprint phones is because their displays are properly calibrated with correct contrast, saturation and color temperature values.
This is pretty close to what you see with a naked eye:
2. Reading test
For this test, I simply loaded up a web page that I was reading earlier and found difficult to read on T-Mobile SGSII. http://alexzambelli.com/blog/2009/02/10/smooth-streaming-architecture/
This was the deal breaker for me. Click on the image above for the full size and the compare the last 2 phones. This problem cannot be fixed by cranking up brightness. As that brightens up the text too. And you want the text to stay black and sharp for good contrast.
3. Picture test
For this test, I grabbed a picture from Flickr and displayed it on all phones.
For this test, you probably should look at the larger shot, before drawing any conclusions. The smaller picture simply does not show enough detail.
While none of the phones in the picture test show entirely correct colors, the Sprint phones do a commendable job. "T-Mobile 2", goes off the deep end and shows the tree to be mostly green, when in reality it is mostly yellow.
4. Front camera test
For this test, all 4 phones were switched to front camera and the camera settings were reset to default. I then put the phones down on a table and took a picture with my Canon 60D. By now I was not expecting any miracles and I did not get any.
T-Mobile units continued to show that they were not loved by their creators. On a side note, I am beginning to think that the T-Mobile units may also have something wrong with the front cameras. I'll have to set aside some time to perform detailed front camera testing for comparison with the Sprint phone.
Conclusion
In an earlier post I stated my belief that all T-Mobile SGSII phones have screen problems that do not exist in the Sprint version. These tests with additional units back up that belief. There is no good way to explain the consistent bad performance of T-Mobile phones when compared to the Sprint phones. While we do find the lines and blobs present in the Sprint phones too, their presence is inconsequential. Proper calibration of the display masks these lines and blobs. The T-Mobile phones unfortunately suffer from incorrect display calibration. Some are much worse than the others. Many will continue to claim that their T-Mobile phones do not suffer from the same problems as the two units I tested here. While statements like "My phone looks OK to me" are well and good for the individual user, they are not scientific. I invite any skeptic to find a Sprint SGS2 and put their T-Mobile unit next to it and run these tests. And then come back and show us the results. I would genuinely be surprised and happy if any T-Mobile SGSII phone out there behaves differently from the ones I tested.
I do not know if the incorrect calibration can be fixed with a software update. I hope that it can be. It would certainly save an otherwise awesome phone.
I would be open to trying a different test with all 4 of these phones and compare output. Let me know if you have a specific test in mind. In the meantime, I will probably run a few more tests and will update this post with new data, as it comes in. I will also be happy to update this post, once anybody finds solid evidence of a single T-Mobile SGSII phone with a good display.
My hope with this post is that we raise awareness of the issue so that people building and shipping these phones wake up and fix the problem. If we continue to pretend that the problem does not exist, then it most certainly will not get fixed.

Just tried it and my screen looks fine. Looks like the phone on the right.
You're right man I never noticed but I see what you're saying. When you pull the notification bar down its not really black it is grey. Same thing in the browser when you hit the menu button, the menu that appears has a grey background color instead of pitch black.

Very interesting. You followed all three steps I listed above and looked at the result in a dark room?
But then again I just downloaded a plain black wallpaper ( hate to say this but like the iPhone 2 g black background) and its pitch black!!! So I guess it's a minor software issue ( or not?) I don't know.

I am not sure I follow. The pulled-down notification area is not really supposed to be black. It is grey. However I do see lines in it, in a dark room, if I turn the display brightness all the way. Something I do not see on the Sprint units.
I love this. People will find ANYTHING to complain about, even if the phone is perfectly designed.
This phone has the clearest & most vibrant screen of any phone I have ever had. It crushes all other phones I have ever owned and makes my coworkers iPhone 4 and 4s screen look sub-par.
You can complain all you want but what do you expect to happen? T-Mobile sure as hell is not going to do anything. And getting it replaced with another one clearly isn't going to make a difference. Unless you plan on switching to Sprint (terrible idea) then I suggest you forget about it and move on to care about things that actually matter.
cheema said:
I posted the earlier thread, comparing a T-Mobile Galaxy S II with the Sprint equivalent here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320163
I posted a couple of pictures comparing the screen performance. There was a bunch of confusion from people who said that their phones do not look like that. I suspect that they haven't really tested their phones the correct way. Here is what you have to do:
Download the blobs.jpg to your phone. Note that it is not entirely black. It is dark grey. Looking at a black screen tells you nothing. A copy of blobs.jpg is attached here. Or simply point browser the browser on your phone to: http://cheema.com/blobs.jpg Tap and hold the dark gray rectangle and then select "Save image" from the menu.
Go to Home->Settings->Display->Brightness. Turn off automatic brightness and dial down the brightness all the way to make it as dark as possible.
Open up the "Gallery" application and locate the blobs.jpg in the download folder and view it in a mostly dark room.
At this point you'll probably see a greenish display with ugly lines and dots all over. If you see this you have what some of us call a bad display. Based on the data I have seen so far, I think that all T-Mobile Galaxy S II owners suffers from this. Most people believe they have a good display because they do not have a the equivalent Sprint phone to compare with. If they did, they would notice the following:
T-Mobile units have bad contrast. This is specifically bad if you are reading a lot of text. On T-Mobile units, the white backgrounds appear to have a blue tint to them. For most websites and apps, this works OK. But for some that do not use a plain white background, it makes readability much worse.
Colors in pictures are washed out. See my previous post, linked above, for an example.
I am not planning to return the phone at this time as I do not believe there are any T-Mobile GSII phones out there with good displays. I'll suffer through the bad display with the hope that Samsung fixes this issue with a software update. It is very likely that they messed up color/contrast/saturation settings that can be fixed in software. I also think that Sprint units have these lines and dots too. However we do not see them because Sprint displays are setup correctly.
Note: The attached photo shows T-Mobile GSII on the left and the Sprint version on the right. Both are running Gallery software showing the same exact image: blobs.jpg (attached).

I tested this out....downloaded that image and set brightness to 0 and opened the image in a dark room....i can see it was not pure black or a little shade but no dots or visible lines. I'm not sure if it should display completely dark colour but it's not bad for me.
followed the steps. I do not have this problem. Guess i'm one of the lucky ones

Very strange that Sprint's panel, at least, looks way better.

Well the thing is its not perfectly designed, the gs2 is advertized with amoled which should be crisp and sexy and if every has that blurry screen problem then they have the right to bring it up. As you can see in the attachment in the original post, the Sprint version does not suffer from the poor screen. My hope is to raise awareness of the issue and have Samsung fix the problem quickly.

I was just thinking. Could this be why we never got the same screen contrast app like the sprint verison and at&t version have?? That might have made it even more visible.
I am planning on purchasing in-store on 11/9 so was thinking about getting accessories beforehand. Problem is I don't know which color accessories I should get! I prefer the White Note 2 but won't hesitate for the Gray if that's all they have.

I'm sure it will. However I will be new to AT&T and they still haven't acknowledged that the white model exists. I will be pissed if it's not available.
i dont think it will, probably not for a couple weeks or months after. I suggest going going to a T-Mobile store and actually taking a look at the titanium grey. I was dead set on white as well until i saw the color in store. White is nice, my current note is white, but its overdone now with everyone getting hone phones and a phone that size it attracts a lot of attention in that color.

I went today into at&t store to ask questions bout the note 2 and she was telling me that blue is the only color they are releasing on 11/9. I think she is nuts. She even said she saw it with her own eyes lol. Don't believe that she is creditable but just thought I'd mention it

So it has been reported that the Verizon N4 White versions are now showing Oct 31st for availability. Is this only for preorders that are made NOW due to a backorder situation with the number of white phones that have been preordered to date? When I preordered my white on September 26th, it said it would ship by the 23rd. I called verizon last night and they said it looked like it was going to ship next Wednesday (presumably to be here on the 23rd).
So is this new date valid for people preordering now, or all preorders?
I have to say that this is my first experience buying a phone through Verizon, and I'm completely shocked at how bad their system and communications are. They provide either no information, or completely confusing information. Dominos Pizza has a better order and information system than they do. It's absolutely stupefying how bad it is.
probably for new pre-orders going forward. that's gotta be the only reason it was delayed, because they ran out of stock of the white ones ya know?

That's what I suspect, but the information they share is terrible. Heck... my preorder is still "processing" like everyone else here. Most systems change from "processing" to some other status that indicates that whatever you ordered has been successfully processed and is awaiting shipment or something.

Most systems only do that when the order has been successfully processed and is awaiting shipment. Given that Verizon has been saying the pre-orders will ship by 10/23, it's not the least bit surprising that their system is still saying what it says. When it's actually awaiting shipment, it will say it's awaiting shipment.

Shocked on the white demand, I just feel a male should not have a white phone, but maybe that is me

Really? White phones are for girls now?
EFF that. If cornball guys can wear pink shirts and feel cool, I can use a White phone. When did white become girl only?
I pre-ordered white. I usually rotate each year between white and black. Mine said the 23rd when I pre-ordered, hopefully it doesn't change.

Yeah news to me too lol. Black, or white phone I'm fine with. don't think I could ever pull off a pink phone though. Had a black gear but for the gear 2 went with gold for something different. Note 3 was first white phone wanted to be different from the crowd and my normal.

Old school mentality. I used to only rock dark colored phones for that reason but if I look at my friends white S5 and compare it to my Black S5 his phone looks so much better. It has a more premium look to it and the screen also "looks" bigger. I opted to go with a white note 4 this time around. The phone just looks so much more premium in white and also the demand is much higher so resale value like someone else pointed it is much better.
As you get older you stop worrying about what people think about the color of phone you carry around.
White phone, black case = class
I used to only own black/grey phones. Bought the white Note 3, threw a black case on it and it's a beauty
white is for girls? lmao okay. sure.

Because 99.9% of females own white iPhone's. One major reason why its perceived to be more for women then men.
Someone has gotta be reasl insecure about something to say its feminine to own a white cell phone Lol. I had a black note 3 and the dark Grey note 2, seriously considering white if it's in stock on release. Anybody know if the white feels the same in hand? On the note 3 the black felt much better and grippy than the white one.

99.9 percent of females own iphones, regardless of what color it is. does that make the iPhone a woman's phone? no.

Maybe that is why all the white note 4s are so much in demand that they pushed the date back. More girls are buying note 4s now!! Maybe? I hope so because this girl preordered a white one. I hope many more girls do the same on here

Was gonna get a white one til I saw the date.. I want it now!!
Yes, I'm a guy. White is not a color for girls. Technically it's not even a color.

Another fantastic question! Me Personally, I Like my Electronics to be white. I hope my "manhood" is not in question (not that I care). to me, the device has more of a premier Look when it's white. My furniture are mostly in black. To each his own I guess.

iPhone has turned out to be A "female" dominated Phone! quite frankly, let them have it. My lady is strictly android though. Lucky me..
Warning!! I just came across this at work when my co-worker asked me to set up his phone. I realized something was wrong when I saw the screen and size of this note 4. I decided to show it off for those who is considering picking up one from ebay or Craigslist. See the comparison from a real note 4 and see for yourself. There's no real difference w/ the software but the hardware might be a concern since the battery(charger) is not Original it might blow-up or melt. The fake one is really flaky and has weird random vibration and I would not recommend using it at ALL!!
Sm-910f. Looks like a rooted international version because it says custom.
That's correct.

It is definitely fake. Look at the lock screen. The one on the left says "ergency calls only" instead of "emergency calls only" like a real Note 4. Also, if you look at the batteries the one on the left says it is 11.something watt hours instead of 12.41 like a real Note 4. The "SM-910F" you see in the about phone screenshot is easily faked by editing the build.prop. I could make my SM-N910T say "SM-910TURD" if I wanted to..... The MOLY baseband is another dead giveaway.
It's nothing more than a very good clone

+1 the 910f wouldn't have a different screw pattern or the spen wouldn't be closer to the edge.
The screen is another giveaway. Looks like its using an LCD instead of an Amoled. Definitely fake.

It's a fake...the over spray on the paint job is a hack of a job for a phone. Camera is offset plus the rear speaker look like a sticker. It's a custom rom of the international version but the phone itself it's a knock off. Also, it started to heat up bad when I tried to charge it.

If it work....the Recovery mode is in Chinese and I don't know if your can odin it since it's not Samsung official. Someone on the other thread said MTK but I don't know and wouldn't want to try since it's not my phone

+1, the screen on the fake is of a cheap quality...I tapped on the screen and heard a hallow sound compared to the real note 4. It's not thick so one drop is probably done. Also, you can clearly see the LCD screen grid on the fake like those of a cheap IPS tablet or phone.
Interesting. Sorry your friend purchased that.

We see a few of these occasionally, but we are really good at catching them. This is a fake white one for your observation. One thing about them is the IMEI usually registers as an unidentified Nokia phone and the model number is one that doesn't exist from Samsung. Another thing to note: the obvious bezel alignment and other aesthetic features are only slightly different. This one is a bit more obvious.
One last thing I noticed was that the cloned Note 4's always seem to have a piece of blue clear plastic over the SIM slot or the MicroSD card slot.
I have previously received a fake SM-910F that looked and felt EXACTLY like the real thing. It had me fooled for a whole day of usage before I realized it secretly having a MediaTek CPU, having minor OS glitches every now and then, and none of Samsung's ROM tool recognized the phone.
Here are some pictures
S-Pen and fake Touchwiz
Front view looks EXACTLY like the real Note 4, because it's actually using the Note 4's digitizer:
Top of the screen:
Note that the home button is completely matte while it should be a bit glossy:
Back the phone, again looking exactly like the real deal (and probably made with real parts)
Top of the phone:
Side of the phone:
Fake IMEI label:
Unknown IMEI/Serial
Some weird Chinese recovery menu instead of Samsung's Download Mode
It's absolutely scary on how well the Chinese are able to counterfeit these days.
The fake one looks like the Mlais M4 Note Handset.
New update....the phone overheated and melt the battery. Like I expected it would. I warned my co-worker since he was going to give it to his daughter as a game/movie phone. Glad he gave it to me to check. If he didn't I can't imagine how bad it would have been!
Wow that's crazy.

Looks exactly like the fake alpha i bought last year. Quality was crap...it was a MK proc, just garbage...no LTE either. Funny though, even the ATT guy didnt pick up on it being fake.
To know which are real or not.
You can check if the KNOX are there:
with:
1. Download mode REAL with knox & here is a Guide.
2. Samsung info app (General label/Tools). IF knox are not found =FAKE.

This is a quick and easy test and the first thing I did after I looked at the battery bay sticker. If it doesn't have Knox, it's fake.
