Searched high and low for this but have not found a guide for setting this up.
1. I need this as a way to use two Google Voice accounts on the same Android device. One GV number for work and one personal. (Ironically this is the only reason I still use my iPhone as my primary cell phone.)
2. I would love to setup a third profile for my 10 month old daughter so she can play with the phone and not have me worry that she is accessing/modifying/deleting sensitive information.

Looks like you are right. Its too bad. This is such a KILLER feature! I hope there is a way to side load this on to the nexus. Maybe flash it with a Tablet ROM or some other custom ROM?

Any unofficial choice ? Pleaseee )
its only for tabs and not for phones.. the only way to use it on the gnex is to flash pa which has this feature added

is it the PA 2.99+1??
Code:
/frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/config.xml
<!-- Maximum number of supported users -->
<integer name="config_multiuserMaximumUsers">[COLOR="Red"]1[/COLOR]</integer>
Change the number to whichever you like.
Code:
/frameworks/base/core/java/android/os/UserManager.java
public static int getMaxSupportedUsers() {
// Don't allow multiple users on certain builds
if (android.os.Build.ID.startsWith("[COLOR="Red"]JVP[/COLOR]")) return [COLOR="Red"]1[/COLOR];
return SystemProperties.getInt("fw.max_users",
Resources.getSystem().getInteger(R.integer.config_multiuserMaximumUsers));
}
Either change JVP to something else, or change the number.
Good luck.
Go vote up the feature request (cause I'd love to have it on my phone as well for my baby to play with):
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-139
I also took tristan202's post and commented on the ticket as well.
There are mods that enable it. But there are also apps. Try this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hcHBhaG9saWNzLnVtIl0.
Or this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.sferadev.multipleuser
Thanks. The first one looks like a hack for 4.1, then again I just skipped 4.1 and went straight to 4.2 from 4.0.
I wonder how he did the 2nd one, since it is java code than needs to change and be recompiled. Then again, I am not an Android developer (yet - this may make me pull the branch and patch it myself). So this may be compiled in the Java VM on-boot-if-changed and cached for reuse. That would allow anyone to change it via ADB.
Think I'll try that myself.
I wonder why it was disabled for devices with phones.
People on tablets report a perfect user experience switching between users on 4.2 and keeping everything separate, including the apps and settings.
So if that was the case, and a phone call was received when User B was using User A (aka "Primary User" for 4.2 multi user setups), what do u think would happen?
What about an SMS or even MMS that allows saving of attachments?
Clearly those are intended for the "primary user" account on that phone. But the saving of user data gets changed under multi-user mode to those virtual aliases like:
/storage/emulated/0/
/storage/emulated/1/
Etc.
Clearly this may have issues when devices with cellular radios in them and receiving calls and SMS/MMS.
Maybe that is why?
---------- Post added at 10:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:30 AM ----------
Also, if logged into one account and "switching" to another, it can take 3-8 seconds. And that is on the tablets with faster ram and cpus than our phones.
The idea of "switching" when ur phone is ringing might not be viable.

I did, and I think I made the right choice.
Depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for thousands of apps, no. If you are looking for useful apps, yes most of android ones I found exist here. Few don't but you can only wait. If you are looking for stable, fast and extremely reliable phones, yes. New fresh UI, yes. New integration etc, yes. All in all depends what you want from the phone.
What DONT you like? What about things like Gmail integration? Video chat with Skype? Tweaks and modifications?

i moved to wp7 from ios and android. i still use my iphone sometimes because of all the themes. android for me was a laggy force close experience. i love my htc titan. i never have any issues and the screen size is great. everything i need to do my windows phone does, just like my android phone did. the only down side for me was loosing all the customizations that android and ios (jailbroken iphone 4) have. if you dont change the look of you phone with widgets and roms all the time then you wont regret the switch.
Android even though I would never have it, is what Windows Mobile use to be, you had freedom and functionality. I went from WM to WP and even though WP isn't bad it does suck elephant balls compared to WM. WP is stable and quicker, I do remember having to reset my WM phone every now and then but if I need to do something simple like create an MMS message with sound, it would do it, if I needed to transfer a file via Bluetooth no problem, If I wanted to add a freaking wallpaper to my start screen I could. Things which I'm pretty sure you could do now on Android. If you do switch over be prepared to give up a lot of your choices.
I change roms all the time on my hd7. Try something different, try win phone. Don't rely on the opinions of others, especially in these highly bias forums.
Plenty of these threads already.

It's android to Titan, but essentially most gen2 windows phone will have more or less same experience software wise. The hardware choice depends on your taste. Please do remember we don't need processors with size of elephant's ass because OS was designed to rule the hardware unlike Android where you need certain hardware before even thinking of running the bulky OS on it.
^ see what I mean by bias? That post sums this little Winphone world up.

Since you are looking at the Radar and are in the US I assume you plan on being on t-mobile. I would see if you can't get your hands on a HTC HD2. Then you can have both WP and Android, plus it's fun to hack around on. Only down side might be if you NEED a FFC for video chat.

I know right! It's like people don't follow any OS anymore, they troll down my posts! But all good joy of meeting exciting people at XDA!
I moved from Android (and iPhone before that) and am very happy here. There are certain shortcomings that will be addressed in time, and as long as you don't need to customize your phone all the time you should definitely give it a try. Its quite a refreshing take on mobile UI/interaction.
I went from windows mobile (wizard, tilt2 then the htc pure) where i was costantly changing roms and the back grounds. One rom would fix one thing but break another. I just was never satisfied and truthfully i spent more time fooling and changing things at work then i did working. Then i got a windows phone 7 mod for my pure. started playing with it but wasn't sure if i would like it. Then i found a great deal on a HTC surround online and since my contract wouldnt' be efffected and in 6 months i could change if i didn't like it via contract upgrade, i dove in. This was pre-nodo. I was glad for the switch. in the 1st few months though i did have rom flashing withdrawl..damn u xd for getting me hooked. But... i learned to use a phone for what it was ment to be used for. The surround was super stable and the MS commercials were right. Glance and go. I spent less time messing with my phone and more time using it. The live tiles just work. Well contract time came, and i waited watching for 2nd generation phones. 8 months later... att had a black friday sale. Titan for 1 cent. I now own a titan and i WILL NEVER own a phone with a smaller screen again. It's freaken amazing. My only hopes that would make it even sweeter will be if Nokia releases one with the same size screen in 2 years. (i have always been a nokia fan at heart for there hardware)
Now the good for windows phone
The integration in the people hub is sweet. Change from texting someone to facebooking them with one button in the same interface! In the contacts, scroll left and everyones facebook is there. I created groups and if i click on "Family" i see all my familys facebook only. If i click on only 1 person, i can see only that persons. No app loading. no wait. how sweet is that. There are countless ways things integrated in the O/S.
if i hit voice, say movies it will bing search the web and present me with a list. When i click on it it shows the list again but with user ratings, what kind of movie it is and how long the movie is. When i click the movie i would like to see, it gives me movie art, same info but showtime to the left showing i can scroll that way. Scroll to showtime and there is the closest place to me that is showing it and all the times with a buy ticket box under it. If i click the movie location i can get directions, phone number and address + website of the theater. if i scroll left i can see all the apps i have currently and any app i could want to download for doing these tasks. If i click buy ticket ( you may have to have msn movies for this but i am not sure) it took me into msn movies to pre-purchase the ticket.
Oh and the directions link i told you about takes you to bing maps with a gps step by step, ready to take you there. If i clicked on the phone number instead, it would dial the movie theater.
There are tons of these little extras you will discover in windows phone, already there, and not talked about.

Just because total amount of limitations.
In every way, starting from missing features and ending on OS design inconsistencies.
I truly believe WP7 will be good OS in one year the earliest.
from galaxy s 4g to radar
pros:
- so easy, a caveman can use it
- pretty ui transition. smooth
- dedicated camera button
- LED flash, decent camera
- (supposedly) guaranteed to get timely OS updates
cons:
- alternate browser (no opera, etc). there are "alternate browsers" but they are just skins on top of IE9. NO
- no swype (there is knock off but it sucks)
- VERY limited app selection. most are 1-3 stars rating w bad reviews
- decent apps are $1-5
- no gmail app and nice stuffs like threaded view like web version, no priority emails, etc
- google voice apps cost $ for push
- cant "send text to..." by voice via google voice
- cant "send email to..." by voice
- "navigate to ..." doesnt give easy voice navigation like android. clunky to use
- cant set default app for certain action (always send email via some third party app, etc)
- individual volume settings for ring, alarm, music, notification, keyboard
- no speech to text in any text field (i miss that little mic icon on ALL keyboards)
- slow. does things smoothly, but get things done SLOWER than SGS4G. same 1Ghz processor, 512MB RAM.
- no flash. say what you will about flash but having a choice is better than none. plus SGS4G can handle flash video on websites quite well
I'll be selling my Radar soon. bought it cause stupid samsung wont give me ICS/android 4.0

I am trying to find a way to change the Device ID but I can't find out where it's at on the phone. I am trying to get another account with a game but it recognizes the phone even after I change the android ID...so I figure it must be using the Device ID.
I am using a Verizon Nexus if that changes anything.
Is there anyway to change the Device ID?
if you're rooted, buy titanium backup, go to settings -> manage android id -> create new (random) android id

which game?

it is probably using the phone number or your gmail address in your accounts
these 2 permissions would give them that information
PHONE CALLS
READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. An app with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.
USE THE AUTHENTICATION CREDENTIALS OF AN ACCOUNT
Allows the app to request authentication tokens.
Try Privacy Blocker. It's not free, but it has options for you to change/spoof almost all identifying info on your phone, including the ones mentioned by Zepius

Did you figure out anything or you bought a new phone maybe?
why not just run Bluestacks on your computer?
Hi folks,
I'm the owner of an M8 and one of the things that made my decision to go with the phone was the remote control app.
I've never used the EPG function and just went with TV provider not listed to get access to just the remote functionality. Now they've stopped us from doing that, just to add a new room or remote.
Here's what I want to ask the forum. With the tools that we have as a community, we're able to unpack and modify Android apps. What I want to do is remove the area/post code part of the setup and drop users into adding a remote/room and it just be an app that just does the remote function alone
1, is this a worthwhile endeavour?
2, what are the legal aspects of this?
3, would I be able to post it on here as well as on Google Play?
I would like to release it on Play for other users to use, but that could get me into some legal issues unless I remove all references to HTC, but that is immoral and I'm not keen on that idea. Please reply with any ideas on how I should go about this. Am I able to do anything on the back of them abandoning it?
Mods: I'm not sure if this is in the right place, so please move it if required.
If it's free, u could always post it in the apps & games section of XDA.

Hey Everyone,
I just picked up a shiny new Alcatel Idol 4S with Windows 10 for $288 from T-Mobile US.
Some interesting things out of the gate:
1. I was browsing the ROM, and it has a "Field test" app that uses InteropServices.
2. It uses the Lightning bolt and Gear screen to flash with WDRT.
3. There are two PROVXML files baked in the ROM to remove "Nokia Glance Screen" and "Nokia Feedback App". They don't appear to be present in the rom though.
4. From looking in the "Device Platform ID", there is no difference between the T-Mobile-Branded one and the unlocked one. It is "ALCATEL.8996.IDOL4S".
5. the partition layout is "Different" than the non SD820 phones.
6. perhaps most interestingly, the phone appears to be 100% identical to the TCL 950 Android phone. right down to the supported bands! http://www.tclmobile.com.cn/index.php?g=Content&m=Products&a=detail&tp=TCL950_overview
I'll update with more after I unbox it.
*Update 1*
1. Now that I have the phone, they have a rather extensive testmode app. It can be launched from the dialer via ##2886#
2. I was able to install Interop Tools and follow the process outlined under "For All Other OEM Devices" to get full reg access. I then changed my MTP root to C:\
I need the open market FFU. Any sign of that yet or anywhere?

As far as the prov xml goes. Glance being removed, does that mean it removes all drivers. dll files, packages, registry entries, etc..?
Do you see any reason the screen hardware would not be capable to run glance? Before I returned my last 6071w I had glance installed, but obviously not working...but I had not spent more than a day working on it. The camera hw is more than capable, but needs tons of tuning. We would only be limited to regedits for now, which do not add up to much. It really needs a fw tweak or update to improve most of the areas. RAW images though can be generated with out much mods like that. I believe the camera app Proshot allows images produced/saved in raw mode.

I tried to pull it from WDRT, but it says that it doesn't exist yet...Hopefully they will post it soon.

It is able to be pulled down now. For some reason I am having issues flashing it with the default app. Not sure if it has to do with something I did or not. Anyone else try flashing the Open Market FFU yet?

4. From looking in the "Device Platform ID", there is no difference between the T-Mobile-Branded one and the unlocked one. It is "ALCATEL.8996.IDOL4S".

This has led to an issue for flashing the open market FFU btw. Since the current PLAT ID of both phones are the same, and the Open market FFU is identifiable by PLAT ID ALCATEL.8996.IDOL4S.NA

In my spare time I found out a way to enable AT&T VoLTE Services for this phone. Been testing it out the past couple of days...But I am not officially working on this...
In fact, the method I used should work for any current Windows 10 mobile phone, but I only have a 950XL and IDOL4s to test on.
Can you please share the steps regarding how to enable VOLTE on IDOL 4S?
Thanks a lot.

Hello all, I've started working on a really simple night mode app, but before banging my head on a wall, I'd like to share the idea to see if it's feasible. The principle behind the app is to change the system settings in "color profiles" programmatically. This would be my first experience in app developing, so I really don't know how it will end. I just started with a new uwp project and almost set a very basic interface.
there is no color profile, just one simple for tiles
There is: Settings - additional features (don't know if it's the exact translation, it's the last option though) - color profiles. There you can find the color temperature.

If you plan to impliment with the color profile app then you could only target Lumias.
The lumia series use a specific oempanel.sys and colordata.bin file to drive the displays. Each driver and bin is tailored to the device. So not sure how you plan to pull off the night mode app unless all you do is automatically flip the color temp to warm some how...
I was sure it was an entry in the registry. That's bad news. Anyway the idea was more or less what you said, just change the system settings at a given time. I find that the warmest setting might be not that dim, but it's already something.

Unless there is a way to port the method from Windows 10 to W10M...not sure how or what driver is used for the latest Desktop version.

Still though. Having it programtically or on a schedule switch it for the Lumias is still a good start. If you succeed with a similar schduled interface it might benefit Lumia users. I know I would have liked it to turn automatically to warm without having to switch it manually.
