ive tried every rom, even stock rooted and while my benchmarks are great i get some brief lag exiting programs and there's a delay waking the phone from the power or home button. i though jb had project butter? anyone else having this?
edit: just saw quite a few people have the lockscreen wake lag, sorry to post this again. hopefully this gets addressed and or we get aosp soon.

I don't have lag, but I just rooted and then set up go launcher. I still don't see a ton of benefit to most ROMs currently. The phone is just too new, imho. Prolly worth waiting a few months for the roms to work the bugs out. Until then, i am enjoying the way go launcher basically de-touchwiz'd my note 2.
make sure you dont have "activate S-Voice with home button" that delays the home button response
Try this : go to setting /Developer options /enable Force GPU rendering . Set Window Animation & Transition Animation to .5. Lag will gone

Thanks, this did help with hitting the home button to wake. I've also noticed some slight lag though with using the home button in general. The UI is *so* fast, there's a noticeable lag when i hit the home button it seems. Say i'm on my home screen, i swipe left, i swipe right, i click the Apps button, all of that is lightning fast, but then i click the home button to go back home, and there's a noticeable lag, anybody else notice this, and find any "fixes" for it. I say "fixes" because obviously a 3rd world problem.

Like noted above, make sure you have Svoice home button activation turned off. That causes a lag.

Hi All,
I think this deserves a new thread but if I'm wrong, sorry mods..
Anyway, I'm exceedingly happy with my Hero and although I never thought it was particularly slow or laggy I have encountered a bug which has actually sped up my handset. I long pressed the home button to get the recently run apps list up and a message popped up asking me if I wanted to complete the action using Touchflo or Home. I chose home and the phone took me to a screen with my wallpaper but none of my HTC widgets and only three home screens. Since this happened the phone has been zooming along. I have not felt the need to try to restore touchflo at all, although I do miss the toggle widgets.
As a bonus I have also noticed that a lot of the Apps from the market that had been Force Closing are now working perfectly. Maybe this won't matter after the update, but if you feel your Hero is laggy you could try this.
Hope this helps.

you still use any app the same way you would normally it just brings the home screen back to the basic g1/magic look....
I was thinking of doing this , but really losing the htc widgets is not a solution , so I stopped the google automatic sync , and now the phone is actually fast and there is no lag .
tried yesterday....loosing the 7 screen layout + widgets slows me down much more than TouchFlo slows the Hero down :/ IMO, not worth it :/
I don't think it's a bug. You can do this by holdning down the home button. When the tasklist shows, you press the home button again. From here you can choose to use eather "Android HOME" or "TouchFLO". and you can do the same thing from Android HOME, so it's not permanent! Try it! Play around!

I used to be able to do this but I must have inadvertently changed something and now I can't access the Android Home anymore. I'm quite disappointed since I want to go to the Android Home page to test some things.
So beware. you could potentially lose this function.

u guys. to enable android home page. jusy go to settings-applications - from there go to touch flo and clear defaults.
go back to your home screen and press the home button now. u would be able to choose between android and touch flo from there.if you want to select something as default .... just tick it and there u go.
same thing applies for the android page, if you have selected it as default and want5 to revert back to touchflo. samething, setting-application- clear defaults in the home application .................etc etc,
Yeah, I also removed Rosie, and I gotta say, I really like the Hero now!
Rosie slowed the Hero to a crawl, now it's running again.
I'm eagerly waiting for the update, but if the Rosie update isn't significant, I'll probably end up removing it again..
Losing the HTC widgets is a bummer, but the speed-up it gave me is SO worth it
cant find it
I keep pressing the home and get the choice of recent programs but pressing the home again gets me to home. Secondly, In settings and application I dont get any such option for touch flo etc. Any other way of trying out the phoe without touchflo?

I second that.. Is there anyway to work around that..?
bar control or home switcher should do the trick....
bar control allows you to add a shortcut to home or touchflo on the notification bar permanently, and home switcher just jumps between the two i believe.

so, just got my phone looking and feeling pretty much how I wanted it using go launcher but I am noticed that either i have a problem with screen sensitivity or there is a problem with go. I am finding that i have to click some icons several times to launch them, seem worse in drawer.
Anyone else finding that the get the audible click but nothing happens?
EDIT: switched back to ADW and everything is back to normal, gotta be an issue with GO..
No. The only problems I've had with Go Loauncher EX is that there was a lag between the start of a horizontal swipe and the homescreens starting to swipe - resolved once I stopped the wallpaper from scrolling too, and in the app drawer sometimes a long press doesn't launch "edit mode".
Other than that it's all gravy...
odd, my problems disappeared when moving back to ADW. Cheers anyway though.
+1 haha i thought it was just me that was having this issue.when you select something on launcher it indicates the touch with the glow but nothing happens?press couple times and it will open.that is what i was having.was making think i was having lag.went back to touchwiz not a issue.
+2 Hot damn, I thought I was going crazy.
Edit: I emailed them about it but it definitely goes away with a different launcher
cool hopefully they will have a fix in no time.those guys work hard.its hard to go back to touchwiz after go.i also use there go pro messenger.built in backup etc like the laucnher.
Having the same "lag" problem.
So, we're all NOT crazy
Cant say I have had this issue and I have been using GO Launcher for quite some time now.
Yes, I noticed this bug also.
I'm using go launcher ex for some time and this came out since 2-3 weeks.
I hope they will fix it soon.

Sent dev an email though.
Same observations. Especially bad for icons in the dock. I have always disabled gestures.
+1 I also have this problem from time to time. First I tought it was me missing the right spot on the screen, but it must be a bug.
As we all know that the 4.2.2 update made our phone as fast as the 4.1.2. But it has a bug, at least for Maguro (not happening on my N7). Do you ever get a laggy scrolling on homesceen, when entering app drawer and scrolling in recent apps? I believe everyone has it. But only few people notice it. I have tried all 4.2.2 ROMs. AOSPA, AOKP, PAC, etc and all of them has this bug (I have done a clean flashing). And I have tried all launchers, Nova, Apex, Holo, Action Launcher, Stock, but the lag is still back!
The (systemUI) lag has to do with rendering (static) wallpapers. This can be solved by:
1. Setting a live wallpaper
2. Temporarily, by pressing the app switcher button, rotating the screen and pressing the back button
3. Disabling system autorotate
4. Making the launcher (instead of systemUI) handle the rendering of wallpapers. In Nova launcher, use the 'force scrolling' option, in Trebuchet (CM) use the 'wallpaper quick render' option
5.. Using an app to set static wallpapers as if it were a live wallpaper
Also, emptying cache for all user and system apps using Titanium Backup seems to affect the issue positively. Please note that this might result in some settings being set to stock (like the keyboard, snooze duration and some other minor things).
Well, this is only for temporarily solution for those of you that getting sick of this bug. Waiting for the fix from Google.

Another finding is that changing the wallpaper makes the transitions smooth again. But the choppiness returns after a while. I'll try your tip tomorrow and report...

To me 4.2.2 seems the most stable version so far, it's very much consistent, and scrolling in the recent apps menu gets laggy after I scroll a certain amount, and ofc when removing the process it lags, but this was present in 4.2.1 as well, i would have to say that as far as performance say, it's much more consistent than previous versions,
Static wallpaper or live, i see no difference

There's actually a lot of truth to the live wallpaper trick. Back on the Photon forums, we would use this technique to smoothen out the UI on our ICS and JB releases since we did not have a proper kernel and drivers, thus terrible onscreen performance. But this fix has existed since ICS! And it works!
Regarding the live wallpaper being smooth. It might have something to do with scrolling wallpapers too. How is everyone's feelings on a static, non scrollable wallpaper? Or is that what we are talking about?
I've had the choppyness too.
I am now using plasma beam and will report back. I also am going to try it on my nexus 10.
I'm telling you guys, try out the combo I posted in post 2. It really removes lag.

i use it like that(single homescreen no scroll)and i noticed the same lagging issue after a while
but i think it has to do with how you set the wallpaper, when i used zedge or image2wallpaper to set them the issue stated on the OP appeared
but if i use the stock gallery to set them and the problem is mostly gone
something else ive noticed is that the status bar lag only happens when on the launcher screen, open any app and pull the SB and its smooth, go back to the homescreen and pull it,its choppy
EDIT
still happens even after using the stock gallery

I've noticed the same problem with 4.2.2 ever since it came out. I usually use Phase Beam so I never noticed it. Only when I switched to a static wallpaper (one of the stock ones) for a day did I notice that the transitions into and out of app drawer and scrolling through home screens gets choppy. I never did find a way to reproduce it reliably, but I do know that if you use it long enough it will start to happen.
Immediately fixes itself by setting to any Live Wallpaper as OP had suggested.
Problem only started to occur with 4.2.2. Never had it happen in 4.2.1 or 4.1.x.

Then try to swipe on lockscreen between widgets if you have some. You will notice that the lag is still there, but atleast its a better deal to have it on lockscreen then on homescreen.

I don't know man. I'm either lucky or just not as picky but I don't even notice lag there. I have a few screens of widgets on my lock screen too.
Set a static wallpaper, go back to home screen or lock your device. Then, swipe down the notification bar and notice how choppy it appears.
Now, go inside an application, like Calculator - swipe down the notification bar and notice how smooth it is.

edited op. i had lag on 4.2.2 with the stock launcher but once i installed nova and changed all the animation speeds everything changed to bullet speed.
Thanks for the video.
No offense but I don't think we're talking about the same sort of "lag". The one we're talking about is a system bug that came with 4.2.2. causes frame rates slowdown when scrolling between homescreens, lockscreens and in recents. When it appears you can even notice it while switching between the tabs in notification pulldown (gets really choppy). Problem appears randomly, sometimes after couple of hours, sometimes after a day or two. It cannot be eliminated by simple launcher change and turning animations off.
Turning animations off makes scrolling look faster indeed but it kills fluidity on the other hand which I really really don't like.

Rebooting, changing wallpaper, rotating screen (under recents) are known workarounds to temporarily get rid of this lag. Probability to reproduce the issue is lower when you did one/ some of them.
Workarounds aren't a fix for the sluggishness - it's still a workaround. And nothing is a workaround for worse RAM management compared to 4.1.2.
Hmm try opening a couple of tabs in browser (5+) and open the tab switcher and scroll. If you see lag, well done. If you don't, the flash 4.1 to see real butter. I can go on and on but the browser is the most apparent lag. Battery life too. Do not suggest me to flash custom kernels, been there done that. 4.2 is just a laggy mess all over. I've wiped, flash factory images, try out many roms even the rom OP is using. But none are as fast as good old 4.1
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Look's as fast as F1 car! :good:
While the majority of this update brings smoothness and (possibly) better battery life for all, there are a few things that can make life more difficult for the power user. Here I'll list what I found, and I'll try to add people's replies as they come in.
Superuser is kinda broken
None of the 4.3 superuser hacks have been 100% successful, many parts don't work. For example, restoring apps with TB or RTP result in only the apps being restored, but data is left behind. Tested with Chainfire's SuperSU for the S4 (which also works on any AOSP 4.3 ROM)
Secure Settings Helper can't toggle airplane mode anymore
This one is particularly bad for Tasker users, as many of their profiles that depend on Secure Settings toggling airplane mode for them will now have to do it by hand until someone finds a new way.
USB OTG slightly broken
Mounting with StickMount on my Galaxy Nexus is fine, but after unmounting, sdcard disappears and shows content from root directory. Sure, everything is safe and sound in /data/media, the mount points just get a little messed up. Perhaps this is due with the root issue?
Slight stutters
Slight stutters have been noticed in the following areas: when pressing the recent apps button, switching from notification to quick settings, and CRT off. I don't get these often except for the recent apps, which seems to be persistent. All the others, at least for me, come and go.
Feel free to post whatever thing you notice in 4.3 that seems off!

my gnex after 4.3 is running like butter on silk. it's that smooth. 4.2.2 was more laggy than 4.3

Same for me here!
I have experienced a better battery usage. But i have made a clean isntall, so I dont know if the better battery usage is due to the 4.3 itself or the clean install.
For this first day, no issues.

Here I have the lag every time i make appear or disappear the quick-settings panel, except the first time from when I pull down the notification bar.
Independently of having or not having notifications.

its really hard to notice for me if there is any difference between the first time and the rest...seems like the same, only difference is when there's a notification.
Another minor lag: Google Now
If I press and hold home button, the Google 'circle' shows up normally, but if I do it swiping the finger from the bottom instead of pressing and holding home, the Google 'circle' animation showing up is laggy.
Mostly importat to see if they fixed the problem with eMMC speed.
