[Q] vijendrahs CM10 rebooted & "updated", phone is messed up - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed vijendrahs ROM on Monday. A couple of hours ago my Desire suddenly rebooted and said it was updating Android(?). When the update was complete, I saw lots of problems: all installed applications were gone, received SMS messages were gone, home button didn't work. However, google account information was not lost. SD doesn't seem to be corrupted.
Has someone else encountered this issue and is there something I can try to fix the phone, other than reflash it (and wait for this problem to possibly reappear)?

[Q] Help - Desire freezing

My Desire has intermittent freezing issues. I thought it might have been due to a poor rom installation so I wiped the Dalkvik cache and factory wipe before I re-flashed LeeDroid 2.2a. I've kept the phone clean and not installed any apps so I can rule out and problems caused by them.
It was working fine yesterday until I was showing a friend how to wipe battery stats, when I went to reboot the phone from ClockworkMod it then froze at the lock screen. I had to pull the battery twice before it actually started up correctly.
It's fine now but I'm just waiting on it happening again.
Has anyone else had these issues?
It was a t-mobile uk handset and I would need to restore to their rom before returning, so if that is the likely solution, can someone pass a link so I can put their rom back on the phone.
Any help or advice appreciated.
I've just got my Desire back from repair (after 6 weeks of grief with HTC, but that's another story on another thread!) and it's doing exactly the same as yours....will appear to work fine, then randomly freeze. This could happen after 10 minutes or sometimes even during boot.
I've rooted it, but it's still got the stock T-Mobile (UK) ROM. I'm wondering if the problem might be caused by rooting, but have downloaded the 2 stock ROMs on the relevant thread on here, but neither will install.
Have you had any joy with your issue?
I'll email you as well.
Cheers,
Rich

2.29.405.2 update bugfest - any way to roll back?

Did the 2.29.405.2 update OTA initially and noticed problems. So reinstalled it from SD card but no help.
Bought sim free, unbranded/locked and never rooted:
Cannot dial out from phone lists or contacts. Going to phone and clicking on an entry in the call list does not launch phone call any more. Going to contacts, opening one and clicking on an available phone number does not launch phone any more.
The only way I can make a call is to punch it in on the keypad! Grrr.
Wifi connects to my home base after a reboot but, after an undetermined amount of time it drops the connection and cannot get it again. Going to Wifi settings shows it scans, connects and tries to obtain IP address. After a short time it gives up, turns wifi off and starts over. Again & again.
Cannot get it to connect again without another reboot.
This is a crippling loss of functionality for me. Can anyone suggest a way to roll back this update so my phone works as id did?
Many thanks all,
M1
First try a hard rest(you will lose all personal data on the phone, pictures and other stuff on the SD will be fine). If that does not work try either the 2.29.405.2 or 2.10.405.2 RUU.
More info - to my horror, around 15 minutes after I had tried and failed to make calls from contacts the phone started making them one after the other as if they were stuck in a spool or something! Ouch - any thoughts?
Backup everything you can and flash the same ruu from shipped roms.

Thanks to all for help on this. Decided worth a trouble shoot before a hard reset and culprit seems to have been an app - extended controls widget. Removed this and all seems well again.
Try this one. This definately works! i have used it.

I was stuck at 2.29 update.
Then i used this guide and windows tool.
So i did this process and it rolled my phone back to stock android 2.1 rom 1.X
The first version that the phone was bought with.
This tool will boot the phone into bootloader and load a stock 1.x rom ota off the sd card as the tool will extract it to sd card and then load it.
This will wipe all your data not sure about the sd card as i dont remember any of that because i formatted my sd card after i had used the tool.
Thats because i had rooted my phone and tried custom sense hd rom.
The only reason i had was of the battery usage as the consumption was very badly increased and that the 2.29 rom was unstable.
PS: I did first try the htc service in Denmark. They couldn't help me and said i was stuck with the 2.29 rom update. :/
After my phone got rolled/flashed back to stock android 2.1.
The next day in the morning i could upgrade again to android 2.2 rom ver. 2.10 OTA from htc servers.
Maybe this works for you as i did for me and others.
Turns out it wasn't the app.
After a couple of days playing ok my sim free stock htc desire is unstable again.
Cut me off mid call - went to phone and clicked on last call entry - absolutely nothing happened, repeated with same problem. Exited phone to home screen then opened contacts and tried to make call from there - same behavior, a complete hang.
No web access either so opened wifi manager to find it hanging on "obtaining IP address" from my home network and continually shutting down and restarting wifi automatically at this stage.
Noticed general UI lag and several apps failing to open too.
Left phone alone and again, around 10 minutes later all of the actions - including trying to make the phone calls started running one after the other. Like everything had been caught in a spool or something. After this all seemed OK until it happened all over again later.
Although the UI seemed OK and some apps worked as expected, the only way to get phone and wifi working whilst it was hung was a warm boot.
Dreading a hard reset as it's going to waste another day or two getting everything reconfigured just so (can't find a back up solution that does everything - multiple mail account settings etc) but looks like only option.
Will try going back to mikep99's suggested rom as soon as I have time and will not be responding to an HTC OTA auto update offer again.
Grrr.
I still suspect an app conflict.
Can anyone recommend a util that might give me a clue which app / sys process could be hogging system / radio resources?
just got another OTA update pushed to me. installed (nothing to loose) and Congratulations my phone has been updated to 2.29.405.5.
Not sure whats going on here as that was the update I got 2 days ago. This time round it was only 4.8mb download so I'm assuming it's an update update. Hope it fixes things .....

[Q] App Install/Uninstall & Text Message Errors (Cyanogenmod 6.1.1 rooted)

Good Afternoon,
I'm having some issues with my MyTouch 3g Slide, and I was wondering if anyone could do me a huge favor and help me out. I just recently got this phone about a month and a half ago, and just rooted it about a month ago (using the new root method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754020), so I apologize for any noobness. I tried searching the forums, but I haven't been able to find anyone with this issue, so I figured I'd rather ask to see if anyone knows what to do, before I start trying methods for similar issues to fix it. Anyways, here goes:
Short version: Installed apps from market, got low space error from excess apps. Moved some with "apps2sdpro" to sd card. Next day, apps wouldn't install/uninstall, apps moved to SD card weren't showing up (SD card itself was accessible though), camera froze up after taking a few pictures and black screened on reopening after force close. Rebooted phone, received text messages which were clearly sent hours ago (yet had signal & made calls during time), sometime after moving apps. Factory reset didn't fix issues. Restored Nandroid of original stock backup, then reflashed Cyanogenmod again. Error seemed to be fixed. Next day, started moving some apps to SD again, no noticable issues (aside from weak wifi connection). Afterwards, problems installing/uninstalling apps & receiving texts again.
Longer, more detailed version:
A couple of nights ago, I was downloading some apps from the app market, and my phone started popping up a low memory storage error, so I decided to go on a purge, and move almost all of my apps to my SD card using "apps2sdpro", including the ones that according to the program, were "phone-only". I'm not sure what, but unbeknownst to me at the time, apparently something got messed up with my phone in the process. The next day, everything seemed to be working fine, though I still had a low memory storage indicator, because I didn't get a chance to move all the apps over yet. I was taking some pictures with the phone, and the camera program force closed on me after a few pictures. I tried restarting it a few times, and it would just bring up a black screen. So I figured maybe it's the low memory, and tried to move and uninstall some of the apps. Any app I tried uninstalling, just hung on the "Uninstalling..." screen. So I tried Installing some apps that I put on my sd card after downloading to my computer, and the same hanging thing, except with the installing screen. I also noticed that all the apps that I had moved to the SD card weren't showing up on my app list. When I went to the apps2sd program, no apps were showing up on my SD card, and all the apps that I could move to the SD card had "0" memory size in the phone apps section. So I restarted my phone, thinking it was just a bug. As soon as my phone came back on, I received a number of texts apparently from hours ago, one of which I know my girlfriend had sent me the night before based on the content, but I had signal all morning, and even made a few calls earlier without problems. I did a factory restore, but that still didn't seem to fix the problem. So, I restored the Nandroid backup that I made before originally flashing Cyanogenmod, then reflashed Cyanogenmod and gapps onto my phone. Everything seemed to be working fine again, so I assumed whatever the issue was, I fixed it. The next day, I started moving some apps to my sd card, and everything seemed to be working fine. Yet when I woke up today morning, I once again couldn't install/uninstall any apps, regardless of size, and after doing a factory reset, I received a text message which my friend had sent me hours ago. So that's where I stand now.
My system information, if it helps:
Phone: T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide
Android Version: 2.2.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.29.6-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-6.1.1-Slide
Build Number: FRG83
Once again, I apologize for any noobness, or if I missed something obvious, but I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. I'd rather ask someone that's probably been doing this for some time, and knows what they're doing, rather than try to start taking pokes at it myself, and potentially do more harm than good. If you guys need any additional information I forgot to mention, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any help. ^_^
Did you wipe data/cache between re-installs?
Nope, only after the initial root. I saw something in one of the forums saying not to wipe out the contents because it bricks the phone or something, so I assumed that you're not supposed to do it after the initial root. ~__~
It will not brick your phone, I've done it numerous times. I'd bet that will fix your problems. Wipe data and cache in clockworkmod recovery and reflash cyanogenmod and gapps.
Thanks for the help! I've been really busy, so I just got around to trying that last night. I wiped both the cache and the data, reflashed cyanogen and gapps, and everything seems to be working fine for now, and hopefully it stays that way. The phone seemed a bit buggy at first, having trouble getting signal, but after I rebooted it again, it was working. The problem usually hides for a day or so when I think it's fixed, so I might have to try something else, but either way, I appreciate the help & reply. ^_^

[Q] need some serious help

I have been using ai.keyboard for a long while. There's been an update and 2 more because the first "update" messed the app up, and 2 more Fixes have still not gotten things working right with the app. The phone now boots up and displays a box "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped." and the pone won't boot any further.
I have reversed the system using CWM to an earlier version where it worked fine, and for a while things were ok. after a reboot, the updates took over and self updated many apps, and the phone requested a reboot.
Poof! same "unfortunately" message came up.
I reversed the system again to 4 previous KNOWN GOOD, Working well backups, and I still cannot boot the phone.
I can boot into recovery and do all that is allowed, but cannot get it to boot now without that message.
I wanted to fix permissions, but I notice it's no longer in CWM or in "Phills Touch" recovery.
I'm stuck at this point, and would appreciate any help.
I'm on Stock T-Mobile 4.2.2 Rooted and it's a Samsung Galaxy S4 - white
Thank you!
Aloha-
Update-
Flashed a CWM 6.0.3.2 which included "Fix Permissions" but it did not make any difference with the problem at hand.
Operation restored - Phew!
Since I had no alternatives left, I decided to return to stock and see what the results would be.
After restoring to an out-of-the-box bachup, I rebooted, and was getting the same message. I did a Factory restore so that all the Root-required apps would be removed, and after the phone rebooted, the message came out only one time and I reset the phone to work with my google profile, and set all the requirements to make calls via T-mo.
I used the phone for a whie, and having no problems, I decided to try rooting it and see if it would work.... It worked fine!
after a few minutes, I flashed CWM Restore and booted to recovery and recovered my nandroid backup I had made just before all the problems started happening. I got an update message for Ai.Keyboard and did it. BAD IDEA!!!!!!! It farkled up, and then searching the internet I saw already that many users were too, having the same problem I was having! I uninstalled the app, and rebooted and reinstalled the app to see if it would work. It was like I first installed it a loooong time ago, and seemingly, most of the problems except for backing up it's settings worked. So, I'm now re-conficuring the settings manually and the phone is acting normal.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
This is the SECOND time I have gone to such drastic measures. The first time, the problem was that I just could not make or get calls,
and the T-Mobile "Tech" in the store said it was not fixable, and suggested I call support and send it back to repair.
well, maybe the third time I'll have to.......
I am sure it has to do with app.

Phone broke down on its own.

Hi Friends, installed oreo on my phone and everything was fine. One day the phone suddenly hung up, then started to reset. I installed Cleanrom. The problem persisted in him. The battery was a little swollen, I bought a new battery, and the problems remained.
The phone was reset when entering whatsapp last night and the software was corrupted. When I deleted system / data / cache with Twrp, it gave errors and the phone is no longer available. I came to mind to install kdz, I installed kdz, the phone was fixed. Currently whatsapp installed is still no problem but I can not root phone resets.
Do you think my phone is broken, is there a solution for this? What should I do. Thanks.
