Would that actually be a step backwards?
No LTE? How 2010..
I was looking at it (virtually) briefly but what draws me to the Note II is the S-pen functionality. No other phone except maybe the Note I offers that at the moment. So there's not really any comparison out there!

1+ and the screen is too small. I, personally find it difficult using phones with screen sizes smaller than the original galaxy note after using that device for over 6 months.

Indeed. It is a horrible trend. Losing features and options we had before...why even go back like that , just plain dumb.
i have one on the way; i use 2 phones one for work and the other for personal stuff and i want to see how the N4 compares to my S3 (e.g., to be the personal phone). that is, how it compares in person in every day use. i've used the previous Nexus devices only to give the S and GN to my kids because of the low in-call volume. (i still have the N1 in pristine condition). the shortcomings you guys mentioned definitely weigh against the N4 being "my" second phone, but the only way for me to be sure is to try it out.
Considering the device costs half as much as the Note 2 on the play store I'm sure plenty of people will find it an attractive product regardless of the lack of external sd, removal battery, LTE, etc. Also because it's a Nexus device Google will likely support it for a long time to come.
That being said, had I the option of both devices and price wasn't an issue, I would take my Note 2 any day.

That's a badass combo for sure... Probably the two best phones on the market to date. I too had ordered the N4 and got that email and just canceled and went with the Note 2 and could not be happier. Looking back, I just got caught up in the hype... would have been a huge mistake to go from the One X to that phone.

I don't think I will but only because of the size. I have small hands and the E4GT is at the top of my comfort level already but the Note is a sweet looking device so I will give it a look if it does come to Sprint. I think the rumored Sprint name is the Galaxy Journal?

I really would like to get one but I'm having second thoughts about paying full price for a bigger screen. I should, but doubt I will knowing my impulsiveness, wait to see if there's any problems initially like there was with this phone when it first comes out. I will also wonder what kind of specs the g3 well have and when it will be here for us. Those are the two I'm watching. Also, if the note still has a dual core snapdragon when it comes out for us, I might pass. Two steps forward with the hardware then one back with the CPU.
Id buy one first day.

Very true statement. If it domes with an S4pro with the new adreno gpu that thing will be a monster. I know that Samsung will eventually integrate lte in their processors but when is the question.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yes. Give me one with LTE and any exynos processor and I would be totally satisfied and have no need for anything else for the rest of that contract at least!
With how big the battery is, couldn't they just put an lte radio in there and have a toggle to turn it off and on like wimax? Then it would still be our responsibility to watch the battery. I could totally go for something like that as long as they kept the exynos. But do not count out the S4pro it has the upgraded gpu also with lte built on the die.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
If it came with ICS out of the box, and LTE support. Would definitely pick it up.
Because I too will be paying full price (unless I come up with a way to sweet talk an early upgrade out of someone) and since I'm not even 100% sold on getting the phone, I'm definitely going to wait awhile and see how it performs. Also the extra wait time will allow a chance for the SG3 to possibly make an appearance, that's the phone I really want.
But I'm a major gadget whore so there's no guarantee what I will or won't buy regardless the cost. lol
I don't know...I like the Note, but I would need a few things in order to lock myself in for 2 more years for it. First, LTE capability. ICS would be good, but not necessary at launch for me.
It would need an upgraded processor though. With the Evo LTE coming out and the SGS III likely to be announced sometime soon, I don't want to get stuck with a last gen processor for 2 years.
Honestly, I probably won't make a decision on my next phone until I see what Sammy has up their sleeve.

Actually, what we really need would be Google Wallet support for our GS3's without the hack-around. But we know that wouldn't work with Apple since they're now Anti-Google. Forget where i saw it... think it was on the news earlier, but i like how they put it. Something along the lines of "There is so much competition between Apple and Google, that Apple decided to recreate the world." in regards to Apple's new maps system.

This.
Its almost impossible to get (cheap) nfc tags in Canada. I asked a Best Buy rep at the Eaton Centre store in Toronto a couple of days ago, and he had no idea what NFC was.
I was really hoping the new iphone would have it so that it would become 'mainstream', but guess we have to wait another year now. Also, doesn't help that stupid S Beam is incompatible with Android Beam (try transferring photos to any non-GS3 phone, it will fail..till we get updated to JellyBean)

i remember reading reviews almost 'ranting' about how light the galaxy s and galaxy s ii were. people were saying 'too light', 'does not feel premium because phone does not feel substantial in hand', 'iphone is perfect with high quality weight to it', 'sometimes not sure if in pocket or not'. something along those lines.
and i read this on a youtube comment but I think it could hold some truth. could Apple have not included nfc (even if it wanted to/why wouldn't they want to?), because it already finalized its aluminum design? fail.

Its disappointing to see them remove it. I'm probably going to stick with mine for a little longer as I personally don't see anything wrong with it, Its still buttery smooth.
I'm a little surprised they didn't keep the Galaxy Nexus around a little longer and possibly sell it at a discounted price.
At any rate, there is absolutely no incentive for me to upgrade to the Nexus 4. I plan on keeping my Nexus until it breaks (at which time I will probably just buy another used one) or until late next year when the next Nexus comes out. IMO the Nexus 4 is a good candidate for skipping if you already have the GNex.
About the only thing I do like about the Nexus 4 that the GNex doesn't have is the wireless charging, I hate having to plug my phone in to charge it all the time. However, I rarely have to do that now anyways with my GNex because of the pogo pins. I use the desktop dock every day to charge my phone and listen to music, all I have to do is slide the phone into the dock. Also I like being able to have two batteries as I can just swap them out on the weekend for example when one runs out. I also prefer AMOLED screens over IPS and the Nexus 4 doesn't have LTE. So with all these things considered, for my purposes the GNex is a better phone than the Nexus 4.
Boo LTE....boo amoled....two features I won't miss....I think the nexus 4 will have a long life span....and what new hardware will be out???? I don't see much out after quad core....

Also I don't think they could drop the price of the gnex any further. They wouldn't make any money off of it.

Seriously. Have you guys never seen how its done on other android phones without a removable battery or even the crappy iPhone. You hold a combination of buttons for a certain amount of time and the phone will reboot itself. Same method to get in to recovery.Problem solved. This method is actually easier than having to remove the battery, especially if you have a case. This is the dumbest thing most people keep complaining about with the non removable battery.

Yes, I was sad to see this as well. I was ready to buy another one--and looking forward to seeing a price drop--and now it's gone. And the only thing that will be left in its place is an LG-designed glass-backed phone. Yuck. And even if you wanted this, you still can't get it for another two weeks.
Hm, I wonder if this lack of availability will increase the resale value of my Galaxy Nexus.
Don't want to part with it yet, until I can examine the new one in my hands though.

Actually even a lot of phones with removable battery can be forced to reboot with a button combo. I thought they were all like that until I got my gnex. Although it doesn't matter, other than due to a bad flash here or there, I've literally only had to pull my battery once since purchasing 4 months ago.
On another note, I agree with a lot of you that plan on sticking with the gnex for awhile longer, if I simply wanted the latest and "greatest" hardware I wouldn't have a nexus in the first place.
I'll upgrade when my nexus shows signs of struggling with newer apps, which I don't see happening for at least another year, hopefully just in time for a new Samsung nexus

Judging by your other posts you don't seem to have very many good things to say in any thread. For that I will ignore your "dumb" comment.
I'll wait for 32 GB version didn't Google learn from the Nexus 7 we want 32GB

I currently have the S3 and while I do love the phone, I want to change my phone plan (Telus) and the only way to get the new deals is to pay out the S3 and get a new contract. They are selling the Note 2 for $99, the HTC one for $99 and the S3 for $0, so my choices are between these three phones. Since I already have the S3, I think I would like something a bit newer, but if another S3 is in the cards, I won't be hurt too badly.
I am leaning towards the Note 2 as I want a bigger phone and I like the idea of the S-pen.
What do you like about your phone and would you recommend it to others? Don't forget, I am currently using one of the best phones out there, so I have been spoiled for the last year.
Thanks for the info,
Ian
I went from an S3 to the Note 2. One month later..so did my wife. Even though the software is practically the same, the screen size and S pen make it worth the upgrade.
My $0.02

I would suggest getting the HTC One, don't get me wrong you will probably like the note if you get it but the One is a generation ahead in everything excluding battery life.

Edit:
To all of those saying Im biased its my fault for not saying I own the note 2, I thought it was obvious from my signature.
I went from s3 to note 2, no regrets! And I'll never have a smaller phone. It's so amazing

hey
i like the htc one but there are a few things one it has NO sd card so what you have for room is what you have no extra room next is there is no WiFi charging as you can get with the note 2 also with the note 2 you can get a larger battery for more time if you need but you really don't need to
remember the htc one has no removable battery or sd card . smaller screen but you know that but htc one has a great set of speakers also the htc one has better low light camera for pics .. and it is a new er phone ..
be honest if you can wait for 3 months the new note 3 will be out it will have the faster ram CPU and gpu and is only supposed to be going from 5.5 to 5.7 in size

This comment is inexcusable. Look at the guys name. He's obviously bias. OP..... word of advice. ... nothing is more of a complete package right now than the note 2! Period! Almost 2d battery life 4-6 hrs screen on time. ..... every day. Can't go wrong! Htc are overpriced pieces of junk if I'm being honest

Con - after you have a phone with such a big killer screen and amazing battery life you won't be able to go back to anything else..
Once you go note, you never go back

These 2 comments say it all; htc one is cute, small, and nice speaker design, but no storage, no battery change, and htc is in big trouble..
there is absolute NOTHING that any other phone out right now, does as good as or better than the Note 2.
End of story..
Many thanks for all the input. The only thing I am hesitant about going with HTC is I had the SGS before I got the S3 and I am used to the way Samsung does things on the phone.
Is there mush of a noticeable difference between the pentile screen and the non-pentile screen?
It's going to cost me about $100 to pay off my S3 (on a trade-in) and cancel the contract. The Note 2 is $99, but the plan is a lot better. Now I have 'My Fav 10' and 100MB of data for $50/month. The new plan is unlimited Canada wide calling and 3GB of data for $60/month. I almost always go over my 100MB limit, so I am paying an extra $10/month anyway.

Everything excluding battery life ?? My friend...the one cant even accept a memory upgrade...are you serious ??
Lol....
Obviously your opinion is biased and inaccurate...
HTC made a valiant attempt with that device...
But it appears that sales are not doing well....at all...
And once again HTC remains in serious financial trouble...
Stick with the winning team...
The one that allows you to actually look at your battery...or add that fresh 64 GB class 10 Kingston card...
Please don't try to convince us that an inferior device wins out over the most innovative, and best running device on the market today...
That attempt would be...well...embarrassing...g

No SD card , No Removable battery & not so great battery life but hey it looks and feels cool.

Amen brother...
Enjoy that machined aluminum after it gets all scratched up too lol
I'll take my "cheap" plastic that has not been in a case yet doesn't have a single scratch or scuff on it
I don't blame inspiredbyhtc for his input. I would also praise the S3 on a forum if someone asked. I love my phone as he loves his. I have never used the HTC One, so I said I would consider it when I upgrade and he gave his opinion.
But, on the other hand, I guess he had it coming since he is in the Note 2 forum. That's like a Montreal Canadian's fan going to New York and cheering for the Canadians and getting beer poured over him.
Ian
I'm very impressed with the note 2. Just switched from the htc one x. Htc phones are not as easy as samsung to root and unlock. Delt with the same things as the one, cant change battery, no ext storage. I'll be sticking with samsung for a long time.
