[Q] Widgets Dissapearing after reboot, regular launcher, no root - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am completely stock and I have never rooted my phone or done anything other than use Go Launcher Ex up until a month ago. I recently discovered that I don't have to use the TWLauncher but that I can in fact use the regular Launcher on my Epic 4g Touch. So I uninstalled Go Launcher and started using the regular launcher (I'm on FI27 by the way).
The problem is all of my widgets dissapear off of my home screen after each and every reboot (and yes, I wait for Media scanning to complete. Still nothing). This is true for stock widgets and 3rd party widgets. The only issue I've found like this in my Google searches are people that had their apps/widgets moved to their SD card. Mine are not. I'm completely stumped. I really don't want to use the TW launcher and as much as I like the flexibility of Go Launcher EX I really really like the smoothnes and simplicity of the standard launcher and would hate to have to go back either of the other ones.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to do a wipe simply because I am really lazy and don't want to have to reinstall my apps again, but if you think that is necassary please recommend the best way to make the app download and reinstallation as quick as possible for my lazy behind.
Thanks!

App Backup & Restore from play store will backup the apps but not data. There are similar apps for backing up sms and call logs too.

So I'm guessing from your reply that you either A: Have not heard of this issue and therefore do not know of a fix or B: You have heard of it and the fix is to restore my device.
I'll give it another day or two to see if anyone else has come across this and found a fix but I guess I'm gonna have to try a wipe. I just hope that works.
Thank you for your suggestions sir and I will start researching further to try and make my restore as fast as possible.

Best way to back up apps/settings?

Ok, I have the Evo completely rooted.
I want to be able to back up my applications, settings for those applications, as well as standard settings on my phone.
Titanium Backup - I can backup apps, however system info seems to break / cause force closes among different roms. It is hard to tell what is important and what isn't. I want settings such as default ringtone / configured desktop widgets and folders / wifi settings / lock pattern etc. to be backed up and restored easily.
Nandroid - Nandroid backups are almost perfect, except that they don't work w/ different roms. I want it to do exactly what it does.. copy everything as is.. but while retaining the functionality of the rom I choose. I get that this is not what it is supposed to do, I'm just giving it as an example as to what I would like in a back up app.
So basically, I want to be able to easily switch between roms (I use Avalaunch Froyo most of the time, 2.1 for photos/recording etc, and will probably use new Froyo builds coming soon) and maintain all the OS settings and App settings. So far I haven't been able to find what I need. Can someone point me in the right direction?
ive always has this question as well...
I am not sure how often you switch between ROM's, but I switch every other day or so. When I switch I make a NANDROID before hand then when I get to the new ROM I delete the old one off the SD card. I know that isnt an answer to you question. It is just what I do and it works for me. If there is a program that would back up all of it would be amazing.

Not to sound like a douche, but I'm fairly certain you didn't even read the post.
Check out my sig. All your answers should be in my guide. If you have any questions or think it's missing something feel free to leave a comment in that thread.
I checked it out, and it just isn't specific enough. It is good though.
As a previous poster said, I change my rom every few days and do Nandroid backups.. but with the new froyo source released, I'm sure a flood of good roms will come out, and while I try them out, I don't want to have to configure my basic settings each time, such as where I like my widgets, enabling swype keyboard, or disabling default SMS and setting all the options in handcent, etc.
Trust me, it takes over an hour each time. As more cool apps come out, it'll take more time to configure. Also, since Sprint is awesome and lets you upgrade every year now by being a premier customer, I plan on sticking w/ android and want to be able to have a smooth transition when I get my next phone.
Titanium Backup seems like it can get the job done, and maybe I just need a specific listing of which system data file is for what. I tried to copy just the things that seemed necessary, and I still got force closes on things such as trying to open my sound settings.
Most of the system items highlighted in Green in Titanium are of important settings/databases. Also, I can confirm that if you back up the "[DESKTOP]HTC Sense 1.00" entry, then your sense Desktop (meaning icon locations and widget placements) will be restored to where you had them.
If you are not running Sense though, and instead using a custom launcher like ADW, helix, launcher pro, etc...Then I can only guess that if you back up those using the App+Data option that it will also remember icon/widget placements, but that is only an assumption. I have limited experience with those launchers.

If you are going to be going back and forth between Froyo and Sense 2.1, don't bother trying to back up your account/widget/home configuration. It's different between the two and could mess things up. Also, many people put out roms that are zipaligned or deodexed, you might not want to restore stock apps on top of those.
I'd recommend doing two things.
1. Use a nandroid backup to save a "snapshot" of your current rom so that you can easily go back to it (with all of your settings intact).
2. Use Titanium Backup to just get your user apps and information when you want to move to a new rom. Setting things back up can take a little time, but it's better than wondering why you're getting force-closes or wakelock problems. This will keep all of your user app settings (like Handcent or Swype) but you will just need to enable them in your settings menu.

Titanium Backup. Has anyone lost faith in it?

I'm hating it with a passion and I don't know if its something that I may be missing. I purchased the full version and use it to ''Backup Apps + Data'' since I know that backing up system data screws up your phone.
Everytime I switch ROMs I run ''restore apps + data'' and upon completion I run into a ton of force closes and terrible lag issues. I also notice that the lag happens when I'm browsing on 4g. (the force closes happen all the time with almost all the apps)
I end up downloading all my apps all over again and losing my achievements and progress in games. I beat Angry Birds in like 2 days and now I have to do it again.
By the way I always download the busybox in the problems link in titanium backup. I always wipe dalvik and factory reset in between ROMs.

I only get problems when I restore system apps, If I just restore user apps there is no problem. dont restore system data, it will overwrite the good new stuff in the new rom you just flashed and frankenstein it into both the old and the new, hence yhe fc's
sounds like you're restoring something you shouldn't. Don't just do a batch restore, make sure that you're only restoring the apps you want.
Different roms work with different version of wireless tether, spare parts, etc. Just as ZJ mentioned, you restore something that a new rom changed and it could cause problems.
Also, be careful switching between Sense and AOSP Roms, even with just user apps. People have had problems with that. But going from AOSP rom to AOSP rom, I've never had a problem. (I have the paid version, and I switch back and forth constantly.)
I wouldn't say that I've lost faith in TB, but I have never really been a big fan of it. The only things I b/u with TB is Angry Birds, and bookmarks. Everything else I b/u to Astro, or just re-d/l from the market. I try to do a clean install from the market whenever switching ROMS to avoid any data issues.
I use it every time I do a rom to restore all my apps and certain system data. The green things are typically OK to restore to any LIKE rom (sense or ASOP)
Restore like sms messages, bluetooth, wireless, etc.
Don't restore the red stuff.
Ok I will try some of those suggestions.

GQ- I feel your pain. I only just recently started flashing roms and I experienced the exact problem you described.
I went from stock to CM6.1 At first it was nice and fast. After I did the batch Titanium restore it started to get really laggy!
Like someone suggested don't restore important system related stuff (such as system settings) I actually ended up using MyBackUp Pro because it seemed to restore with less stability issues.
Another good idea IMO is to d/l a screen saver app. You can find them in the market. Take a pic of each of your home screens so that you can copy them exactly when you flash your new ROM. Just a lil something I personally do...
Does titanium not work well with an Apps2Sd?

I'm very anal about my home screen and have it set up the same way regardless of what ROM I use. It's easy for me to remember because I prefer using 3 screens. I just notice lag when scrolling through my apps or random force closes on apps I use often. Like you mentioned before I only do a batch backup of installed apps and then I restore apps + data only (not system data).
The mistake I was probably making was having the restore overwrite the newer/existing versions of the same app that came with the ROM I just flashed.
I have noticed when I do a titanium full batch app & all data restore my emails will not auto sync. I have to open and refresh to get it to work.

Few questions with flashing ROMs

So I've been using mikfroyo for a bit now, then I wanted to try and switch to CyanogenMod 6.6.1(i think?)
Regardless, I did all the main steps...backing up all the apps...nandroid backup...wipe of everything...install ROM however a few issues arose that I wanted to address when I flashed Cyanogen..these issues all caused me to restore my mikfroyo..
1. When I try and restore all my apps and data with Titanium, it asks me to install EACH AND EVERY app that I ever downloaded before. Is there a way I can just auto accept them all? Am I pressing the right buttons for backing up and restoring? I usually run the batch operation "Backup all user apps + system data" and when restoring I always select "Restore all apps with data"
2. I could not post my original wallpaper that I had from mikfroyo, it would either use a random cyanogen themed wallpaper, or the screen would just go blank
3. All my saved game data was officially gone. Honestly this was the biggest issue, playing a game where you level up for months just to see it all go to waste is just demoralizing.
If anyone has the answers to these issues I'd be very grateful. I'd really like to explore beyond the world of MikFroYo!

1) Sadly no
2) I don't understand this question?
3) If you saved with Titanium this shouldn't be an issue
1) there is a way to not have to install all apps automatically but you have to purchase the paid app of titanium backup.
2) which wallpaper are you trying to use??? I also don't understand this question.
3) with titanium backup it saves the data for the apps you backup. Bit you need to make sure that you choose the correct batch to backup.

1) that is a limitation of the free version sadly. Titanium is one of the few apps I can honestly say was worth paying for & now it's actually on the market unlike the way I had to buy it
2) all old wallpapers will be gone from that directory sorry :/
3) you just wiped EVERYTHING! However, with titanium you'll be able to restore game data hopefully
sorry for being undescriptive about number 2, but what i mean is that when i used mikfroyo i just had a wallpaper of a hot girl, and when i switched to CMod it automatically set the wallpaper as soemthing from CMod of course, but when i tried to set it back to ANYTHING else of mine the wallpaper would either switch to another CMod wallpaper, or the wallpaper would just be black
also i hear a lot about mybackup as an alternative, can anyone confirm that my issues wont occur using this app as opposed to titanium? (saved data/installing each and every app one by one)

I used MyBackup Root and it was pretty seamless to me. I've never used titanium so I don't know how to compare it. MyBackup Root does APK's and their data though, and it's all automatic

Go Launcher screwed my phone up

Ok. So I saw some reviews on Go Launcher and decided to try it. I didn't like it so I uninstalled it and everything I installed / widgets/apps from store.
Now I can't get into the dialer (crashes with android.process), can't download anything from market, randome google.process.gapps crashes..
how can I fix this? I don't want to factory reset.
Please help.
Are you positive it was Go Launcher? I doubt that was the cause of the problem. I might be wrong though, but I've never had any problems with that app. Hope you figure it out.

It might help if you can give more info.
Are you rooted or stock. What else did you delete besides launcher?
FML.....
Why or how does Titanium backup freeze apps behind the scenes? Contacts Storage and Calendar were frozen. I unfroze them and rebooted. now everything seems to be okay
Yes it was GO Launcher EX. I just removed that and yes I am rooted.
thread can be closed...
For the future.... I backup in recovery every few days and delete older ones. This way you don't have to start from scratch if you eff something up. Very helpful since I like to tinker with different ROMS and settings.
Don't freeze any apps. Why people do that stuff is beyond me.
You have 768mb of RAM, more than enough for the OS. Android is very good at managing memory.
Go launcher couldn't have caused those issues. All it does is replace your launcher.

[Q] Have any of you deleted the stock Launcher for whatever ROM and use another one?

Was using [ROM]DARKSIDE-Dewizzed-V2.5.2 [1/27/2012] and i got rid of the stock launcher in favor of GO Launcher and I deleted the stock SMS/MMS for GO SMS.
everything worked fine.....nice and smooth.
But I tried [ROM] Juggernaut v4.1 [Vultures Edition][Team Kang][12.27.2011] and did the same thing.....It runs slow and not smooth anymore...
oh yeah...I used root Explorer to delete the stock apps...
Have any of you done this type of thing???
You don't need to delete anything for future reference. Just hit the use as default.
I never deleted key stock apps like launcher, browser, contact, messaging, etc
Because I had a bad experience with my Old G1 that my 3rd party launcher (launcher pro, go launcher) keep fore closing and couldn't use my phone. In the end i had to flash another rom and lost all my data

Oh ok...thanks for the input.
A safer option is to freeze them thru titanium backup. They arent using up any battery in the backround and you can defrost them if you ever need them.
