I thought that all of my videos can be played perfectly on Note 2, but it wasn't the case, I think
What makes it weird is the video that can't be played are .avi files.. It's my first time encounter the problem with .avi files (it always with .mkv though :silly: but surprisingly all .mkv files works perfectly, even the 8GB ones )
It will only play the audio files and the video are completely blank.. I've tried with stock video player & MX Player (please don't suggest to use another video player ) but they'll only show the thumbnail (in stock the thumbnail won't move as the other vids;static)
I've attached the media info of the .avi that won't play.. Should I convert that into .mkv, maybe?
Just in case, not all of my .avi files can't be played.. Just this one
If you don't want to use a different media player, then I think converting it or re-downloading (if possible) could work.

Well, I'm quuite thinking to convert the video, because I'm note sure re-downloading will solve the problem (since the video didn't have a problem playing in my pc using klite media player )
I'm just curious, is there something wrong in the mediainfo I've attached that makes Note 2 can't play the video..
have u try force software decode in mx player? have u try play it on pc?
if u can handle the conversion, convert always is the best method for me

I tried putting a small video clip on my memory card. When I open it it plays like it's in slow motion, and it's really choppy. The audio for the clip plays in normal speed.
so a few questions...
Is there a best format of video files for my excalibur?
Is there mabey a player better than windows media player?
I hacked my psp a few years back. I was able to download full movies and watch them on it. I may be asking too much... but I'm wondering if it's possible to do this with my phone.
when I'm at work with my phone in my hand the ol' boss doesn't mind. Of course when I'm hanging on to a game system.... the **** hit's the fan!
Here you are a free bit of software that can recode videos http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html download link @ bottom there is lot's of speal...
I use A-One FLV to AVI but it's not free, there is alot of software that can do it.
I recomended SUPER as i know lots of peeps use it, so set the resolution 320x240 keep bitrate down on video larger it is larger output file, audio can be set to mono and again about 64kbit/s and still be fine, .mp4 is a good quality for Mobile video or for even more compression .3gp
Re: Player TCPMP "to which is free" or CorePlayer "the pay version"
I've tried downloading TCPMP. When I try installing it I get a message that the install package isn't designed for my device.
this is where I'm downloading it from.

Is there a different version that I need to use?

Try VLC Media Player you will want codecs CCCP is XP & Vista compatable "if you have any other codec packs installed then do not install"
well i actually wanted to start a mobile movie thread
like..i will be encodeing movies for mobiles..which will play without a hitch...and patches...
and uploading them on rapidshare or megaupload..
sooo what say??
what happens if you run out of battery in the middle of a movie, can you fastforward it afterwards and in an "easy" way? If it's possible, it depends on the video format, video player or both?
I am just inquiring if there is any way we can play .mov files on the HTC EVO 4G. I got a video on e-mail that the extension is .mov file type.
Any leads will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
You can try renaming it to .mp4 instead of .mov, similar format but it might not work.
Also, you can try to track down a media player in the market. I would say try vplayer but i do not think that is free anymore
Download RockPlayer from the market. It can handle pretty much all video formats, including .mov.

VPlayer work like a charm. Unfortunately I had to pay 2.95 but I guess it gets the job done.
Thanks everyone !!
How do you watch videos on your EVO? Do you convert them and then drop the file on you sdcard? Stream from Dropbox or something else?
I usually convert them to one of the supported file types.
I just throw the video file on my sd card then use RockPlayer. I use to convert all my video files but RockPlayer can play just about all types of video files. There is a lite version on the marketplace. I dont think it can play .mkv files tho. Hope this helps.

I third this. It actually plays .mkv files just fine, or at least I haven't had any trouble with them yet. I recall you have to set it to software decoding rather than hardware, but I'm not sure if this is related to playing .mkv's or if it's for all filetypes.

You're probably right about 720p, I just checked and the videos I was watching are 624x352, which still look smooth and clear on the EVO.

He all... just thought I'd follow up. Tried a 720 .mkv file... just as I suspected. Slow and choppy. I will have to convert that file type to a mp4. so... uh... thanks!
Mkv and mp4 are just containers. As long as the codec used is h264, the video should play just fine. I have many 720p videos on my phone that play just fine. Just make sure to keep the bitrate under 3000kbps or so.

Hi! I have problems playing some videos, particularly 720p movies that I downloaded via torrent. The video format is .avi and i'm using a class 10, 8gb micro sd card. It says unable to play video when i try it on my GW. The video plays fine on my pc through VLC media player, but when I try playing the video using DivX player, an error pops out about audio codec... (forgot the exact error type name) So I assume that the problem is the audio format. Is there any app that can solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

Try MX Video Player. An AVI-File is just a container, so it can contain different video and audio-codecs which the Video player (whether PC or Smartphone) has to support.
greets
THE-E
I will try it as soon as I get home. Thanks! One more question about this app; what are the other codecs for? should I download and install them all for my GW? Sorry but i'm really clueless about video formats and stuff.
May I..??
No need to download any codecs...in my exp,..it's support any vid format.but in particular case,if u want using h/w(hardware) accelerator playing some vid playback and it says doesn't support, just download mx armv7 neon codec...but if u still in stock rom,no need to download that codecs..

Or try Mobo Player. I have positive experience with it.
Use software decoder

ahh so that's it then.. i've nothing against the video support of this phone, i still love it. just wanna try and find out how far our phone can go in terms of video playback. xD.. thanks for the tip!
I cant seem to find one that works from the market and didnt see much in my search in this section. I used to use Arc Media player but that doesnt seem to work anymore. Most of them will play the file but there is no picture, just audio. Other files such as AVI seem to play fine with most of the players I have tried.

You can try moai video player. Its free of the market and plays almost everything. Also FVD video downloader will download videos to your sd card and has a built in video player.
Thanks for the replies I will give them a try

I've generally had great luck playing any video format with mobo, including wmv.
I like MX Player. It has hardware decoding capabilities. If that doesn't work it supports multi core software decoding.
Rock Player plays just about anything
There's also a VLC player in alpha mode I think that may play it. Ill post it when I can.

Winamp and power amp are what I use. Pro versions aren't free though. The Google play version works as well. Not sure if it plays local wma files, but it definitely play wma files from its server.
