[Q] Please help, new guy here. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys, I just flashed AOKP on my Glaxay s3, when I tried to look for the stock camera app it wasn't there. I also wanted to know how I can update AOKP to milestone jelly bean 1, thanks guys!

Stock camera app isn't gonna be on that rom and second you won't able to just "update" to milestone they are different roms. You'll have to wipe and flash milestone. Read a bit and you'll discover things

You must flash a .zip containing GAPPS after you flash your ROM while in recovery. Doing so will add: Play Store, Camera, Gallery, etc.
And I agree with the poster above; make yourself at home around the forums here and you will find a wealth of information.

There are "noob" guides for people new to flashing that will explain what you've asked and more. I'm on break at work so no time to look them up but search "Noob Guide" or maybe someone will post a link to one. Good luck and happy flashin'.

If you don't find/want the stock camera app you can use Camera ICS (link below) from Moblynx. It's somewhat similar. I used it on Atrix 2 and Atrix HD because their camera apps weren't so good.

New here!

Hey guys, I'm new the the SG3, I came from the amaze, I love this phone! A few questions... how easy is the rooting process, what are some of the really good roms, and should I use ext4 it cwm? Thanks in advance, guys!

All the answers to your questions are covered in the stickies. If you need a little direction after spending some time reading pm me and I will do my best. I check in on a regular basis.
Rooting is very easy. You can flash rooted stock jb rom. Which will save you time on updating and rooting. You can find it in stickies, it's called root66, all steps are there.
As to rom, it comes down to what you want to heve on your phone. If you want to have everything clean and simple + android 4.1.2, go with cm10. But it doesn't have many stock futures of the phone.
If you like stock futures of sgs3 like motion. You can go with FrostyJB. It's great rom and my favorite.
You need to do some research on that and find what you like the most.

I also followed the guide here to flash the root-injected ROM. I'd never done anything like it before, so I read the instructions several times - but it was a pretty simple process and I am very happy that I did it.
Personally, I have stuck to the stock ROM since I need T-Mobile's WIFI calling. I understand that TW-based ROMs will have this, but I haven't looked around yet. Simply having Apex launcher has made such a vast improvement that I am very pleased for now and have just about everything I have wanted as of yet.

[Q] New member intro and question

Hi guys, I'm new to the android world here, and so far I'm loving every minute of it...so far I have learned how to root my s3 (yay me!!) and also installed a few ROM's here and there. I came across this Team-Venum Wicked Sensations v1.0 SGH-i747 which I really wanna check out but, I have a quick question. Do I have to install the "Kuban updater fix", and if yes, do I have to reboot when thats done or can I go ahead and install the ROM then reboot? If I have violated any rules I apologize... here is the thread I am talking about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039513&nocache=1 thanks again

Hi. i have been watching that thread also to try it out. Looks like there are a few little issues they may have worked out so Im just waiting to see. The updater I believe is how you can update the ROM and customize it. I dont think its "needed" but looks like it would be a great benefit. Again I did not flash this ROM yet but what I would do is first just flash the ROM and then reboot. Make sure it boots and everything works. If that's all good then I would flash the updater.
Ok thanks man

[Q] Install Jelly Bean onto HTC One V?

Hi, first of all I'm a noob. Second of all, I've been looking through some guides online on how to install Jelly Bean but they all haven't been very clear. I've already managed to unlock and root my phone and I'm trying to flash stock Jelly Bean rom onto it.
So, are there any good guides on how to do it? Thanks for your time.
Flash stock jelly bean? You normally get that if HTC released JB for your device...if it didnt flash a custom ROM which is running JB.. Just go to forums-ur device- pick a JB rom that suits you and instructions will be provided for sure, and flash it... Good luck m8

Thanks for the help! I finally found a tutorial (androidauthority.com/one-v-gsm-aokp-jelly-bean-rom-120690/) that made sense in the mean time, though. Hopefully it works!

Oh darn, I wished I'd had seen that earlier! But it's okay now, I saw a fix in the comments section and Jelly Bean is running on my phone now. Thank you for the help as well!
Ah, I feel like going for CM10. Is there any instructions on how to do this because there doesn't seem to be any step by steps in the thread?

You're CDMA or GSM? Either way download the Rom.zip that the thread provides (here in XDA) place it on your device, make sure you extract the boot.img, reboot to recovery, wipe everything, install CM10.zip and also the Google Apps.zip
This made all the difference for me my first time.

Coolest Rom?

I tried to install latest illusion and liquid JB 2.4 but dont like them, internet doesnt work on liquid jb and there is also no market app on either one, not sure if its the ROMS or my installation.
Now can any one plese help me to find the rom that has best features (good bettery life could be a bonus).
thanks in advance.
Your install process is way off. There are support threads and q&a's and instructions in the OP of the thread... No such thing as a "coolest rom" try them for your self with proper install procedures before saying they're ugly or don't work.
T-Mobile SGS III
Coolest ROM?
That made me laugh.
You need to go through and pick which ROM or ROMs fit your needs. No one can pick a ROM for you, another members ideal ROM may not be your ideal ROM.
As for the installation process and having certain apps not being there or not working properly, you need to read the first post of the thread, also know as the OP. Reading it will let you know what to download and how to install/flash it through recovery.
Here's some advice that will save you in the future:
-read the first post/op of each thread
-have questions or problems with the ROM? Read the first and last 10 pages of the thread, if the problem isn't addressed or your question isn't answered, then politely ask for help.
-Google is your "friend", usually typing your issue followed by xda in the search bar and you'll find what your looking for

Ok thanks for your help guys. i'm not sure what i did wrong. here are the steps that did and one of you might be able to help me.
Downloaded odin and rooted and installed cwm through GalaxyS3RootUSCanada.zip (http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-r...gh-t999sgh-i747sph-l710-fail-proofnoob-proof/)
Downloaded the Rom and installed it --> cleared cache etc.
Now is there a problem with installing CWM throuth this file?
Why didn't you just use the toolkit stickied in development? I know nothing about the software you linked to.

Maybe you should read the op before installing something.
Clearly says you have to flash gapps after flashing liquidsmooth. This is why you don't have the playstore.

Agree here. Never understood why folks would go to that site, then come here to find support for it.
Either root66 or cf-autoroot is the best and easiest imo.

Beats me but I won't give support for things sourced outside of XDA. Not just because XDA always has the best but because I know nothing about external offerings.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Khanbaba59, there is no "cool rom" so to speak. You have to read up on which is best for you, then try them. Be sure to READ the OP on installation process to avoid anything going wrong.
As your questions have been answered, I will close this now as it will cause confusion and bickering about roms.

[Q] Noob Feast Here

Hi Everyone,
As the title says I am a noob to rooting and have been researching the various roots, kernels, roms and add on packs, and some answers on what would be the best package for my phone to accomplish the results of what I would like to do,
My Phone Specs:
Samsung Galaxy SII
SGH-T989 (T-Mobile)
4.1.2 (Android Version)
3.0.31-1003885 (Kernel Version)
What I would like to accomplish is remove a bunch of bloatware that came with phone (mainly all of the T-Mobile bloat)...and I would like to connect my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet to the phone and be able to use the phones data connection as a wifi connection via usb tethering.
There it is, let the feast begin...
Thxs in advance for all the answers and comments

This link will help you how to root. Before you click on it and follow the steps, when you get to step 13, skip to step 18, and then go back to step 14, but skip 18 this time around. This makes a nandroid backup of your ROM (Recovery Menu > Backup).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195283
After you've rooted, download "Root Browser" or something similar to that from the Play Store.
After starting Root Browser up, browse to system/app. Then there will be a load of apps there. Simply click on it and select uninstall.
Be sure to know what you're uninstalling. If you mess up, just restore from the backup you made earlier in recovery.
As for your second option, I'm not sure how to help you with that, sorry!
Good luck!
EDIT: I found a person you had a problem while he was rooting. This thread will take you there and show you he solution as well

CyanogenMOD is probably still the biggest, and if you're new to custom ROMS and rooting, it helps to be able to Google for answers. I see Jedi around a bunch here too, so you'd probably be okay getting help here, but I don't know much about it (I stick with CM). The latest out is CM 10.1 (which is Android 4.2.2).
Another step (once you get confident with using the various ROM/rooting tools) to fine-tuning your phone is updating your radio, and there's an excellent thread with the radios listed for the T989 here.

Yup he's right CM is the biggest in custom ROMs but you can start off with the ROMs based on stock like Jedi, Infamous, & Northern Touch, etc.
Then after you become comfortable with flashing you can move onto AOSP ROMs.
Have fun flashing
