Ah I remember the exact moment I decided to leave Sprint. They released a list of 100 cities that would be getting 4G LTE a few months ago.
I saw that Columbus, Indiana and Cleveland, Tennessee were on that list...but Columbus, OH and Cleveland, OH were not. I live in Columbus, OH. I read that article and went to tweet about it and Sprint's 3G connection timed out and I couldn't update my Twitter to complain.
I'm on T-Mobile now. HSPA+ may not be the 30mbps that everyone wants, but I gotta tell ya, the 15mbps that I'm getting is a hell of a lot better than the .125mbps i was getting on Sprint's 3G. If I had Sprint, the XDA app wouldn't have even opened and I wouldn't have been able to see this.
Just my experience. The ETF sucks, but I'm still much happier than I was 2 weeks ago.
Yeah... and its kind of sad that even if we were to get Wimax that it would still be slower than HSPA+ (3g faster than 4g!?!?)
The nexus 4 on T-Mobile or straight talk is sounding pretty nice right now.

Complaining won't fix anything, you have the choice to wait for the network upgrades to be completed or pay the etf and leave. I have no issues with sprints service, I get consitantly over 1mbps dl and 700+kbps up on 3g, and cdma 3g is limited to 3mbps anyways. There's no other carrier that would let me use 100-250gb of data a month with no penalties. I have 5 lines and we all use a ton of data a month, hell one of my lines is all data every month since its only use is a hotspot for our house, that line sees easily 80+ gb every month no calls and no texts. Honestly if you don't like the service pay the etf and move to a capped plan that costs more, or wait til the NV rollout is completed.

I think you may have missed some breaking news here or there, because pretty much anyone can get that on T-Mobile now (VZW and AT&T don't have it yet, though)

Yeah, T-Mobile doesn't work in my area, and after 10gbs they throttle your speeds to 2g not to mention t-mo and vzw have terrible customer service. I had t-mo a few years ago and had 1000sms/mo and they switched it to include incoming SMS in the 1000 and not just the outgoing with no notice and stuck me with a 200 overage so I dropped em like a hot potato. They don't even have coverage within 20 miles of my house anyways

all carriers have terrible customer service that's aimed to funnel your money into your bank accounts. to say that a mobile carrier has good customer service is to say that you've never really dealt with their customer service. both t-mobile and sprint have kept me on the phone for hours only to have no answers to my problems.
As for the throttling, dude, they stopped that too.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/22/3258573/t-mobile-unthrottled-unlimited-data-plans
like I said, there have been some new stuffs released, gotta keep up with it. otherwise you may end up sounding uninformed. I have to use 9000GB of data before I get throttled to 2G, that's what the picture above is supposed to show. In the old days, that would be "1.6GB out of 10GB", telling me how much I have to go before I get throttled. Now, I don't get throttled unless I provide internet service to my entire block for a month. Different times.

They never stopped throttling, it says right in your screen cap u get 10gbs high-speed internet dude, that means after 10gb your speeds are throttled. I've never had an issue with sprints customer service in 15+ years. Everytime I call it takes maybe a minute to get a rep on the line and they have my issue resolved as fast as it takes to do whatever is wrong, it took less than 10mins from dial to hang up to activate a new phone and switch 2 others around when I activated my sgs3 Monday night. Now vzw everytime I have to call them for my mom its 2hrs of yelling back and forth with some rude ass moron on the other end, and tmo it was like pulling teeth to get anything fixed usually they'd say they corrected whatever it was but really didn't do sh!t they'd just lie to get you off the phone.

I'm in Miami and LTE for sprint is around the corner but **** sprint been a customer for 11 years bill has gone up now I pay 200 plus a month for 4 lines. Moving to T-Mobile once I can buy four nexus 4 phones. Done with sprint and slow data been playing the waiting game for years. My 3g on gal nexus is horrible and on the epic touch my max 4g is 1.5 Mbps
T-Mobile has unlimited 4g no throttle and my bill will be less. And most important will have a current phone and real 3g speed and 4g. If you think sprint LTE will be fast your smoking something. Down the street on Flagler LTE gets 3mbps. Maybe its not up but I doubt it will go to 30mbps.

Funny my lte hits 27mbps on sprint and the damn rollout is only at 25% of the towers complete. It averages about 22mbps but will hit 27 later at night.
Edit: look at the t-mo screen cap up the thread there it says right under the 1.6gb used that the data is throttled after 10gb. 10gb high-speed data means after 10gb its no longer high speed which means it's throttled and they throttle u to edge 2g speeds which is equivalent of sprints 3g

I also heard from other folks that tmobile prepaid does throttle but heck idk since I really dont trust any other carriers besides sprint. I have no issues with them just the lack of slow 3g around my home area but so far when I get to the corner of my house and at work I get 4g lte since they already started working on the towers here in miami.

Where do you get these speeds? Also in my area I doubt it could ever reach these speeds because there is no cable internet and the fastest ISP is att with 1.5mb. Also don't trust the speedtest.net it shows fast speed but your real world speed is probably half that. Like when I go near a tower with 4g I get like 18down but that's not real world.
And T-Mobile confirmed there is a new data plan unlimited 4g no throttle. I don't have the service yet so I can't tell for sure but I have checked many times. And I doubt sprint 3g will ever be good it has been bad for so long. Tired of waiting with sprint. Need a nexus 4 and T-Mobile will do even of it is 10gbs which they swear its not.

I get it in a few spots in town(bradenton FL) but not at my house yet I can get it solid at my friends house right off of i75 and SR 64. Will get it at home between now and march when its complete right now there's a total of 16 towers live in the 5counties that are in my rollout, sw Florida from bradenton to Naples well manatee county to Naples area most of the live towers are down the i75 corridor. Ericcson is the subcontractor handling our rollout, and they are just barely ahead of schedule it was supposed to be testing now and live towards the end of Nov but they've turned on a few towers already. I know its not roaming on lte cuz sprints roaming agreement for lte doesn't start until 50% of the rollout is complete nationwide

When NV is complete sprints network will be as good or better than vzw. From what I've seen already its just as good as vzw in the areas it's up. The main thing is anywhere sprint has 3g now they will have LTE which means they will have more LTE saturation than any other carrier in the US. Plus NV is a complete backhaul and upgrade to the 3g network as well for improved capacity as well as bandwidth so 3g will be consistent in speeds over 1.5mbps instead of slowing as towers get crowded

Evil and yellow what you have to understand is your one of the lucky few. Even when LTE is up it is going to get slammed because for the past year they have been selling late phones so once it up sprint is going to have to change the unlimited data. And sprint every quarter for years is losing Money so that does not make me feel good. Makes me think they can't wait to raise the price.
Sprint gave me 100 to stat today but honestly tired of them not getting phones first, slow data, and no more perks. I get the same treatment as if I just walked in the door. What T-Mobile told me today would be cheaper and I can buy a nexus 4 for 300 bucks. If I get even 5mbs down I'm more than happy because that has hardly even happened on sprint and that is when I'm next to a tower. Tired of the pipe dreams. If sprint has fast data it won't last unlimited.
At T-Mobile they told me today 4 lines 1000 min 2 lines 2gig 4g (parents) and 2 lines unlimited 4g no throttle for 160 a month two year agree meant and I bring my own phones so I get a credit each month since not buying phones. Sprint can't beat that.

I've rarely had slow 3g on sprint, at home its always over 1mbps 2mbps later at night. The only times its ever slower than 1mbps is when we get bad storms and a tower goes down and everyone is pushed onto the other tower. But I live in a sparsely populated area east of bradenton and basically share my main tower with about 50 or 60 houses. The only 2 carriers with coverage at my house are sprint and at&t. At&t constantly drops calls here, vzw only has 1 to no bars of 1x and T-Mobile doesnt have any service at all, you have to roam on at&t. Even when I'm in Tampa or Hollywood I still get between 700kbps and over 1mbps down, it maybe because I'm on a business account with a corporate prl tho

of course NV will be a savior for sprint. but the problem is that it should already have a network thats able to compete. Sprint cant say come join us because we are better then prepaid and then get ****tier speeds then cricket. Also people still have a bad taste in their mouths over the wimax screw up. Honestly, they should of focused on getting their 3g up to snuff before ever considering rolling out 4g.
i for one will tell sprint to go screw themselfs if i dont see my city on the lte rollout list within the next 6 months or if i dont see significant increase in 3g performance.

All I have to say is Ouch! The entire 4G network is down (and some of their 3G too it seems), has been since last night, and no ETA for repair...

Guess that depends on how fast their 1x is (It was slow as balls on my Eris...)
This is the 5th outage of its kind for them. The last one was just last week. Verizon's got the faster/superior network but obviously something's not right there. I hope they fix this once and for all, for the sake of those 70 million customers they rape with their nickel-and-diming

Verizon easily has the most reliable network, I was with them for almost two years. Their 3G speeds easily beat our 4G speeds in actual use speed and I experienced one outage the whole time I was with them. I only left because they started throttling the "unlimited" data they sold me after just 2gb. Managed to get out of the ETF only after a bunch of complaints, including one with the attorney general's office.

Speaking from experience in my area. It is a simple fact that Verizon 3G beat my wimax speeds in Jax, FL.

I'll take decent Sprint speeds with cheaper service anyday. Once Sprint gets their **** together, their speeds will be just as good if not better than Verizons on 3g. 4g is nice, but unless you are tethering it, it really doesn't make a difference when you are browsing the web on your phone.

Yes I have and it's not even close to as good as the commercials try to suggest it is.
Also, in the last speed tests released a few months ago the average 3g for Verizon was around 700k while the average Sprint wimax was either 6 or 8 mbps (can't remember which)
Not even close.

Obviously the speeds are just fine for you (or you're exaggerating) since you're still with Sprint even though you've been complaining about them even on the evo forums for a full year now.

Speeds vary greatly depending on location, congestion, and capacity. In real world use, my 3G was noticeably faster on Verizon than my wimax is on Sprint. In addition, finding a spot where Verizon didn't have coverage was rare. It is unfortunate that they started throttling.

Lmao, decent sprint speed? I love my phone but sprints network makes me miss T-Mobile on a daily basis... My 3G was just as fast as sprints 4G and that not even close to an exaggeration... Sprint network as a whole is abysmal and the only reason they beat out AT&T in customer satisfaction is because big blues customer service is worse then sprints network. If sprint was GSM I would take my ass back to magenta who I only left because I was afraid of the merger... That being said my phone makes me happy enough not to pay the etf and I only have good things to say about sprints customer service (from my experiences with them)
Rant over lol

I was with Verizon for 2 years before the EVO 4G. Not a hitch, always had 4 or 5 bars, now i get 2 max with Sprint (same location). Speeds with Verizon were better too hands down. Sprint had their bad days where the internet would have made no difference if it were completely dead or producing less than 15kb/s. Unfortunately, i was stuck on those 15kb/s days in jersey. However, when i first switched to Sprint with the EVO 4g, data and signal were FLAWLESS. i honestly don't know what happened to Sprint now...
Hey there. I just switched from tmobile to sprint after my contract ended. I switched from the tmobile gs2 to the e4gt. With the t989 I would get 10-23 mbs. With this phone I can barely hit 500kb. I was considering switching back. Is there a way to speed up data speeds or should I wait for an lte phone from sprint?
Apart from running the Verizon prl, you can't do much.
Welcome to sprint buddy.
Call the Sprint CTMS department and start a ticket.
(866) 984-4962
That is the department that actually checks and repairs the towers.
I get up to 1.9 megs in the afternoon now.

Funny and sad how these '' slow 3g threads'' pop up every couple weeks. I did the same thing.
To the OP, like someone said before gonna have to do a search on changing your prl. That's what I did and it helped. Speeds still sick but at least improved.
Or you can wait a year or so until Network Vision hits your area.
I know 10 mbs was 4G but even with my vibrant I would get the 3-7 mbs. And how does Verizon prl help?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I must be in a good area since my 3G speeds are typically T1 speed at home and work but there are times like right now I will totally lose signal at work. A Sprint store is about 4 blocks away so I would think that would be in my favor.
This is a good resource https://network.sprint.com/
I'm sad to say this but I think I'm switching. It is way to slow and the verizon prl has a risk of getting my contract terminated. I love this phone but I can't handle it.
The Vibrant had HSPA+ as well...true 3G GSM data is maxed out at 3 Mbps at perfect conditions, just like Rev. A

I'm in the sticks 20mins east of bradenton and have great speeds 90% of the time(1+mbps down) the bad thing is where I live there's only 1 sprint tower and no vzw data coverage and minimal voice coverage so if sprints tower screws up or goes out I have little to no service at all. But like I said 90% of the time probably more than that in 2 yrs I've only had service issues maybe a total of 10 days, thats all the hours added up and stacked end on end in consecutive order, I have 1-2.2 mbps down and 500kbps-1mbps up

At home in Queens, NY I get wonderful 3G speeds regardless of the time of day (1 - 2.2 Mbps) but at work in Manhattan I get absolute crap (100 - 300 Kbps with 4 to 5 bars of signal !!!). To make it worse, while testing the download speed at work, I see the transfer taking pauses of several seconds... it simply hangs for a few seconds as if it's waiting for something to happen. It does this on both download and upload.
T989 to 1989 speeds. You really need to determine if sprint will work for you in the first 14 days. From any other network, sprints speeds are usually a downgrade.
Unfortunately, I can't even use 3g in many places its that slow. I'm holding on and hoping it improves.
In the Cleveland area I get decent speeds 700-1600kbps, but at work 30 minutes west I get great signal but 200 kbps speeds or less on 3g!. 2 hours west in the Toledo area I get less than 100 kbps on a very strong signal which is where it isn't even usable.
I need an air rave in my home to get signal in the basement, and although the air rave speeds are good since they piggy back off of my home internet, it doesn't make a big difference since i prefer wifi in my house anyway.

Agreed. These are my 3G speeds:
This is Sprint's so called "3G". There's really no point of unlimited data when Sprint's 3G is basically already throttled the whole time.
Even though I think their "3G" is so bad, I still don't switch to another carrier since Sprint has Unlimited data. I still don't switch despite the fact that those carriers (ATT, Verizon, T-Mo) have prepaid plans that are half the price Sprint. Oh, and did I mention those plans have data limits that are higher than the actual carrier plans?
But nah, I'm not gonna switch to prepaid even though it would be so logical.
(This post isn't serious. Instead, it's basically how I interpret people's posts complaining about Sprint's 3G. If you don't like it, switch carriers...)
Oh I totally agree I have no plans on switching I've been with Sprint for 3 years and am just hoping they improve their network to something more acceptable

Their 3G speeds are okay for me like I like it because when I'm out side of the house it takes about 3 secs for a page to load which is impressive to me and at least you got some data connection I rarely use 3G to surf the web but try updating ur PRL to get your 3G speed and more to the latest and fastest version

100% Sprint. It's what I usually get around my home area. 1000-150kbps throughout the day, 1500-1900kbps at night.
The thing is, I live in a suburban area so the towers aren't used as much. I'm willing to bet that throughout the day there are only like 4 or 5 other people connected to data that actually use their data.
Here's my 3g speed, guess I'm lucky.
I've noticed a few times when I have crappy data speeds. My phone was showing 3g in the status bar, but if I went to SettIngs-->About Device--> Status the phone was actually connected at 1x not 3g. Not sure why it doesn't show 1x in the notification bar.

Can anyone recommend one with good reception and real data (not the 30kbps 3G sprint has)
Thanks.
In NYC i get 2mbps on where ever the subway is above ground
1.5mbls when ever I'm outside
1mbps ish in building

Isn't slightly over 2mbps the max for 3G speeds? If you're getting consistently over 1, I wouldn't complain. There are plenty of people elsewhere getting a fraction of that...like 10% of that.
I'd be thrilled with consistent 1-1.5mbps 3G speeds. I'm around Chicago, so LTE is in a few places which is nice, but I'm excited about when they finally upgrade the backhaul for 3G so the speeds will be better.
As for the OP, I would also try changing modems as well, see if some of them work better. Check with other NYC people and see what they're using. Modem can have a HUGE impact on speeds.

Having tried Att and Sprint....I got pretty $hitty coverage with both and this was living in the Bay Area.
For my previouscontract, I selected ATT based on reading the online reviews about them having absolute the fastest service. What the reviews didnt mention was that I couldnt get ATT service 10% of the time which got annoying real fast.
When it works...ATT and Sprint work great....but the 10% of the time you don't get connection, you'll wish you went with Verizon. They might be a tad slower based on the bandwidth test results online...but at least the coverage is more consistent
I will try changing modems, and see if I can get a better reception, thanks.

I don't mean Sprint 3G, I mean the technology limitations themselves. Even if I hop onto Verizon's network with a 3G PRL, I don't ever remember seeing anything over 2mpbs. I have plenty of friends and co-workers who have Verizon and I've never seen anything over that on any of their phones either.
Is it more of a CDMA/GSM 3G thing? Is GSM 3G faster than what you could get on a CDMA network?

Gsm carriers use a backhauled network capable of much faster speeds ....at least on speedtests
Sprint is implementing backhaul tech over the next year or so.
On 3g (hspa+) I have seen as much as 12mbps down but average 3-5 . This is on our att phones.
Funny thing is though side by side we did some comparisons last year and web pages actually loaded slower on attempt s2 vs sprint s2 .. we never really found an explanation.

Sprint is actually getting better. With the softbank deal, Sprint controls a majority of the lte footprint. They are also getting an $8 billion cash infusion that will help them finish building out their lte footprint faster and at a higher quality. I know a few people that work for Sprint corporate. They have big plans and are actually executing those plans

I'm near Baltimore and over the past 11 years have had Verizon, ATT, T-mo, and Sprint. Each provider had pros and cons. I eventually stuck with Sprint (6 years now). They are the most reliable and ever present. Not the fastest but the only time I've been without service is in the Shenandoah mountains south of us where there is no service coverage by anyone. Sprint has addressed every problem I've ever had as long as I was patient with the rep. Oh wait I was patient with the reps from every provider and they bent over backwards to help me. A Sprint rep have my wife an iPhone for $25 during her last upgrade. We presented then with a problem on our bill and they hooked us up with the phone and fixed the bill.
I don't think any service provider is going to be perfect in all situations. I myself would pick reliable over fastest speed.
Just my opinion but stick it out things are changing with Sprint.

I would ask friends/family if they have att unlimited data and try to get grandfathered in. I've heard some questionable things about sprint mostly their data speeds and data coverage. I guess it all depends where you go. I live in LA and my data speed is awesome but most of the time my signal sucks. Thinking about switching to the note 2 myself.

Well everyone seems consistent that Sprint sometimes has poor coverage. That was my thought as well. I've never had it but that's because many people I have known or work with have and it seems next worst after Tmobile for coverage. That's in the Los Angeles area but I'm also factoring experience with people traveling around the country.
One guy on Sprint will frequently want to conference call by calling me first then calling the third number, and I can't recall having a call where his connection didn't drop and of course take the call with it.
Every time I'm tempted to try Sprint I remember the experience of people I know who have it. By the way, I haven't heard anyone actually complain about Sprint in years, but I think they're just used to the dropped calls.
I live in in about 45 miles NE of LA, and Sprint coverage around here and all around LA is bad on a good day and terrible the rest of the time. The data speeds are laughable. I just switched to ATT because they HSPA+ is night and day faster than anything I got on Sprint, even on their doomed WiMax network. While there voice coverage was OK, there 3G speeds were just so absolutely horrible, and the fact that 4G is all but non-existent with them made it an easy choice to switch after many years with them.
If you are not in a 4g area, the data speeds are awful.
Typically a good coverage area without 4g would give me less than 1mb down and up. If I was in a lower coverage area it was far worse. 4g areas were great, but they were very hard to find.
I just switched to att and I can tell you without a doubt that (sans 4g) my worst speeds so far on att beat my best speeds on sprint. Unlimited data is great, but only if you can consume it faster than a snail can run.
Other than terrible speeds, I was very happy with sprint. The price was good and the service was good. Coverage was just OK.
Sprint should never be an option when considering a data plan.
Had sprint for 13 years in Dallas because of low prices and 4g coverage. Finally switched to at&t because coverage was so bad and have never been happier with a cell phone. Avoid sprint at all costs if you can.

Moved to Att from Sprint. Better data coverage and speed and infinitely better customer service.
Unlimited data at slow speeds is worthless.

I also moved from Sprint to At&t and could not be happier, back when I had nextel it was good, they had service back in the woods but once sprint took over it sucked, I miss the old Iden network. I had no reception in my house, and I live in a very good coverage area with any other carrier, even T-mobile had better service. But I also have unlimited (5gb) data for $30 and my total bill for the family plan for my wife and I is $150 so I dont think I could switch now if I wanted to.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NO!!!
12 year Sprint customer here. I still have one year left on my Samsung Epic 4G Touch (S2) and it is simply not usable as far as data goes on 3G. Make damn sure you live in an area that has LTE before making the switch.
I'm lucky to see 50~100kbps speed tests on Sprint. Youtube doesn't load. Webpages time out. Streaming audio is a no go. I've tried every combo or ROM and modem I can think of.
We have 4G WiMax downtown, which my phone is WiMax, not LTE and it does work on 4G when I'm down there but I get maybe 4000~6000kbps which is very usable BUT the sad thing is I'm getting 6000~8000kbps on ATT 3G/HSPA+, not even there LTE.
Sprint blew up big and doesn't have the network to support it the speeds. Few years ago data worked fine on early Smart Phones but it seems like ever since they got all these Androids and the iPhones, it went to hell.
5GB of working data on ATT is way better then Unlimited that really doesn't work.

I could be mistaken but I believe Qwest is still piggy-backing on their network along with who knows how many other prepaid carriers. None of which benefits Sprint's customers when it comes to data speeds.

Switching from Sprint to AT&T after ten years on Sprint is one of the best tech choices I have ever made. AT&T honored a 25% discount I had at Sprint that Sprint wouldn't honor it if I renewed my contract. Data speeds are now fast enough to be useful and customer service is amazing. EVERYTHING has been better on AT&T.

Don't even get Sprint if you live in an area with LTE. It will drop out with 100% signal strength and be very spotty. At 100% LTE 1 min you'll get 20mbs, the next mins you'll get 2mbs.
Go with a Net10(att) $50 unlimited plan. HSDPA+ and they claim themselves there is 50,000 minutes a month and NO data cap soever
Signing up with Sprint is kind of like buying a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get. Well, besides horrible data speeds and coverage.
