Question about epic touch 4g flashed to cricket - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Why can't I get 3g speed? All I get is 1x data speeds. It isn't my area because I have had other phones flashed to cricket before and I got good 3g speeds. My nexus s 4g didn't have any problems.

I think it has to do with crickets radio frequency, and the fact that it's flashed and not made for cricket.
And also Samsung doesn't make the best radios

I know with Page Plus, you need a Verizon donor phone to get 3G unless the phone you are flashing is an actual Verizon phone. Wonder if Cricket is the same way?

There is a thread over at www.cricketusers.com that will help you get 3G.
Lot's of info for Epic Touch Cricket phones over there.

[Q] 3G/4G Working On metroPcs EVO??

Im wondering if anyone has discovered hot to link metropcs flashed Evo to 4G speeds or 3G anything faster than 1x??
The Evo uses Clearwire's WiMax network for 4G service, so I doubt you'll be able to get 4G.
What about 3G?

we'll thats the bad thing about metro PCS
well 3g speeds are governed by your network and 4g speeds wimax.. uses as stated before clear wire service from sprint so basically if metro does not have a 3g network you can't get 3g on your phone and metro only has a 4g LTE network without wimax support your also down in that category i know this because i flashed my old eve to metro for a month and got sick of the damn slow speed so i switched back to sprint thank god i kept my contract with sprint while testing out metro.. but you do get what you pay for ...
Thanks
Htc Evo flashed to metro thanks xda!!

Boost Mobile 4g Question?

Hey do you guys think may 31 when boost comes out with 4g and the HTC Design 4g i will have to switch phones because i flash my HTC EVO 4g to boost awhile ago. Or do you guys think it will just become part of a plan and just wait till someone post then 4g APN like how you used to get 4g by going in EPST and change sprint to clear-wmx.net???????????????????
No 4G settings are unique not universal.
People may use 4G profiles from the EVO Design to get 4G on OG EVOs because of the amount of ROMs the OG EVO has compared to the few ROMs the EVO Design has.
So what your saying is im going to probably have to get the HTC Design to get 4g on boost
You will absolutely need to get a Design to get 4G.
Similar to how a 3G enabled boost donor phone is required to get 3G on a boosted EVO.
The dude at boost mobile sated 4G is coming to the og soon he said. I live in west palm beach Florida so it may be different but less than 58days its coming.

If u have hspa+ coverage (like Tmo) get Simple Mobile. Unlock & use any compat phone. I'm friggin loving it. Dumping VZ was a great day lol. I found u don't even have to unlock a Tmo phone. Just put in the APN for SM and ur good. Love it! I unlocked the doubleshot anyway tho

Sprint S3 on Page Plus; help enabling 3G

I'm using a Sprint S3 on Page Plus that I purchased off ebay. The voice/text/data work just fine but the data speed is 1X and I'd like to somehow get the 3G to work. Can someone help me with that?
Thanks in advance.

Using a Sprint GS3 on Page Plus may mean that the 3G won't work. As Page Plus operates on Verizon's network, the Sprint radios in your GS3 won't operate on Verizon's 3G frequencies. Your best bet would have been to buy a Verizon GS3 as you likely could have gotten the 3G to work.

How does, then, one sell a Sprint GS3 (SPH-L710) with 3G working on PP, on eBay? There are listings if you will see, with a working 3G. I just made the mistake of buying one with 1X data.
1X just means that you're in an area with no 3G. It doesn't mean that you're getting "1X" data speeds because 1X is what SMS and MMS are transferred over, its not actually a "data" signal
It may be that you just dont live in an area where verizon gives 3G

I'm pretty sure Verizon has 3G here (I live in the city of Chicago, and moving around the city doesb't give me 3G either).
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the guy who did the flashing couldn't get 3G antenna to work with PP, which is what he told me.

This seems to be a recent development for myself, then. There are a few Sprint phones that look to be fully flashable to PP with 3G/MMS working. You may have purchased one that wasn't fully flashed. Making it work would likely require changing more than just the APN. My advice would be to contact a seller on ebay who is offering the service only and see if they can assist.
Why not just flash the radios? Your on xda where everyone flashes about everything. The seller would of flashed them. But not to mention he's legally not allowed to do anything about phones that are flashed to a different network as it became illegal the other day. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken

No idea how to flash the 3G radio.
As far as the legality is concerned. This phone was unlocked much before any of that, and since now it is not tied to any carrier anymore (and no terms of service), making changes to the firmware should be perfectly legal.
You'll need a donor phone to get 3g. Some might help you here, or go over to the Page Plus forum @ Howardforums and you should find your answers there. You'll need a newer build of QPST and DFS CDMA Tool demo.

Yes, they most certainly do... Google could have answered that for you much quicker
We might be quibbling about definitions here. If by 4G you mean LTE, then no, Straighttalk does not have 4G (of the LTE variety). 4G might also refer to HSPA+, which you'll get with Straighttalk if you have an HSPA+ compatible device.
I used a Pantech Element tablet with a Straighttalk microSIM i was swapping between an iPhone 4S and got HSPA+ service just fine. Now ofcourse the iPhone 4S does not have LTE but it would show a "4G" icon, the Pantech Element tablet was LTE compatible but i wasn't using it on any AT&T LTE plan, but it would display the 4G icon as well when on Straighttalk.
Most of it is marketing parlance really. AT&T markets HSPA+ as 4G sometimes by using qualifiers and adjectives like "enhanced backhaul" and so forth, but it's still really really fast data, even if it's not LTE.
Just be mindful of the data cap on Straighttalk though.
If you're going to flash your Sprint S3 (which is CDMA) to Straighttalk, then definitely no 4G, as you'll be using Verizon's CDMA service on Straighttalk and using EVDO (which is 3G) for data.
Have you thought about selling/trading your Sprint S3 for either a TMobile or AT&T version? You'll get much faster data on Straighttalk either with Tmobile or AT&T.

That would be your best bet. In that case, you wouldn't have to flash either variant, since both of those carriers are supported on Straight Talk. The only thing you would have to do is configure the data settings to enable it. Your best bet would be to get the T-Mobile SIM, if they have good coverage and HSPA+ in your area, and use it in a T-Mo GS3. You may be able to go to a local Wal-mart and pick up a $45 card & SIM package and save a few $$ over buying it straight from Straight Talk.

Testing Tmobile with unlocked S3

Hey All,
I've placed a Tmobile sim in my Att unlocked GS3. Ive seen many posts stating that the Att version wont get 4g on tmobile but 4g works fine for me; regularly I can get 5 to 10mb downloads. My issue though is that Im sometimes dropping from 4g to 2g/Edge then back to 4g. Should my phone be dropping to 3g instead ? Im quite shocked when it happens since I usually had strong 4g not far away at all.
Is the general consensus to to simply get a Tmobile device instead of bringing something from at&t? I really dont want to root the phone or flash roms at this point since Im just testing out the service.

You are in a refarmed market from the sound of it. The reason you go from 4g to EDGE is because the refarmed spectrum is most likely not through your entire coverage area.
T-Mobile uses the 1700 band, which at&t does not support, as their primary 4G deployment. This is why it is always recommended to get a T-Mobile S3.
That said, there is a firmware image for at&t's GS3 that unlocks T-Mobiles AWS band not just for 4G but for LTE as well. It is in the at&t forum - you will have to read the entire thread to get the relevant files and information on how to do it. Note that this CAN brick your phone permanently so only attempt it if you are willing to take that chance and you are familiar with download mode and ODIN.
The upside of using that hack is that the T-Mobile S3 doesn't support LTE at all.

Thanks for the clarification and info about the hack. Assuming I get a Tmobile device, should I expect to see a 3g icon instead or would it still say 4g?

It'll say 4g.. A 4g icon really means 3g/h+ and a 4g lte icon means lte
