Volume rocker does not go to SILENT, only vibrate...
I had this working but I am not sure if I am the only one.
Volume up gives you more volume
Volume down goes to vibrate then one more gives you silent but I cannot get the silent option anymore.
What gives?

it should "click" one more past the vibrate mode to give you silent. Thats what it does for me.

Once I go from the lowest volume setting to 'vibrate mode', there is nothing past that. only options i have are silent with vibrate, or audio with vibrate. I don't like it, as there are times i don't want my phone to vibrate at all.
Does anybody know of a fix?

I had the same problem must have absolute silence, no vibrate allowed!
Here's how I did it: when you swipe down for your notification bar, uncheck the "VIBRATE" setting (should be third one from the left: Wifi, GPS, Vibrate).
It should change your vibrate to mute.

Doing that works for me -- but alas no volume rocker silence mode.
"simple sound widget" is a nice add on. Just pull down notification tap on it and you can go into complete silent mode with no vibrating or s voice accidentally talking.

On my (stock) phone, there are at least three ways to mute the phone.
(1) Press the volume-down button until the volume goes to Vibrate. Then release the button and press it again. It changes to Mute.
(2) Swipe down on the notification bar. There's an icon that cycles among Sound, Vibrate, and Mute.
(3) Long-press the power button. The pop-up menu has Sound, Vibrate, and Mute icons at the bottom.
The last two options work even when the phone is locked.

I was wondering if there is anyway to make the htc's single volume slider to include the ring and vibrate profile. If I change the phone's volume say to vibrate, I cannot get back to ring and vibrate unless I go and change that in the ring settings. It would be nice to just press up on the volume key until it went to the profile, or make the top "volume" turn on ring and vibrate.
Hope this helps:

Thanks for the help, but that program also doesnt let me go back to the vibrate and ring profile just by turnign up the volume. My end goal is to be able to turn up the volume and have it hit the "vibrate and ring" profile by doing that.
Im having trouble figure out a good way to silence the EVO when its ringing. Flipping it over doesn't work. On my iPhone i could just keep hitting volume down while it was ringing to lower it until it eventually went off, or i could flip the vibrate switch. How can I do it on the EVO without rejecting the call? Assume the phone is locked when its ringing so a screen widget is no good, plus I want to do it with the power button or the volume rocker so I don't actually have to look at the phone. Any tips? Thanks!
edit: i guess you can silence the ringer with the power button or the volume down button. the problem is im using an app called "say my name" which says the callers name, and pressing power or vol down doesnt silence the app. damn! don't want to get rid of say my name... what to do what to do...
If I listen to it where I select it, its the correct volume. When my phone is just sitting there, and a txt comes in, its at least twice as loud. This is with my ringer volume set one click above vibrate.
you have to manually set notification volume in settings. the ringer volume doesn't set it like every other phone. one of my pet peeves with this phone.
One thanks button for you
I use Volume Control from the market.
Very, very easy to set the volume for System, Ringer, Notification, Media, Alarm, and In Call.
Cheers
Is there a way to link my phone ringtone and notification volume together?
On my G2x, under Settings > Sound > Volume, there was a checkbox to make the notification and ringtone volume the same. So when I pressed the volume down button to turn my ringtone volume down, it would also turn my notification volume down. But on the GSII, I can bring my ringtone volume down low, but my notifications will still blare. The only way to adjust the notification volume is by going all the way into the sound settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a newborn at home, and when I'm home, i want my sounds low, but when I leave the house, I want everything back all the way up. I don't want to have to go into the sound settings each time I need to raise/lower my notification volume.
Maybe an app?
Thanks!
Get Quick Settings from the Market. It has that option. I only get that app for this exact reason.

nice! works fantastic!
thanks!!!
When I first got the phone it was hit-or-miss if the volume keys would adjust the ringtone volume, then there was a software update and everything seemed to work right. Then there was another update and now, no matter what I select, the ringtone can not be adjusted just by pressing the volume buttons...I have to press the button (which adjusts the media volume) pull down the media notification to expand the volume sliders, adjust the ringtone volume manually.
In SOUNDS AND VIBRATION, the "Use Volume keys for media" is unchecked.
I'm stumped. Has anyone else seen this?
BTW, this phone is from Sprint and is still bone stock.

There is also a toggle for that option under the volume sliders of the actual expanded dropdown when you hit the volume button, not sure if these two are linked, I would imagine so but toggle it on off anyway

Thanks for replying, but I just as I finished writing this question, there was a software update. I installed that, and guess what? My volume issue was fixed. I guess I wasn't the only one with this problem.
Oh, by the way, that toggle you spoke of was off in both places.
TL;DR: Volume rocker only changed media volume no matter the setting...ended up being corrected with latest software update.
