So I used the original Note for a long time and I am used to being able to just hit Menu then Edit on photos to crop or write on them. Am I missing something here or does the Note 2 just lack this ability? I used it quite a bit and I would love to know if there is a way to get it back. I thought I could get it from Samsung Apps, but I see that isn't an option on this phone either. I have tried ones from the Play store but none integrate the same functionality and ease of use.
Any one have any ideas?
View the photo your waiting to edit push your s pen button then tap and hold on screen it will take a screen shot of what your viewing and place it into edit mode for drawing.
A downside to the screen shot method though is that it doesn't save the picture in the sam high quality over what the picture was taken in on max settings with the phones camera.
On a side note I also went onto Samsung apps and was able to get the photo editor app to download, not sure why it wasn't letting you Oo

Samsung Apps isn't even installed on the AT&T version. I downloaded it from Samsung and it says limited device support.

Sorry I don't have a direct answer for your question, but I do have a suggestion. I use PicSay(Pro) for all my editing and it's awesome! Of course I have not used others for comparison, as with PicSay I have not needed to look elsewhere. It is super-easy to use as well as share. I think it has a really nice selection of options. I'm not certain what the differences are between free vs paid version but I can tell you the paid is WELL worth it. I think I saw it on sale via Amazon not too long ago, you may be able to catch it again sometime for a cheaper price? If you are not looking for a seperate app then kindly disregard my suggestion.
Here it is:

Came from original Note. I'm 99% sure this is the one you want.

Is there no app, utility or whatever to make a hardware key take a pic? Wow even the iPhone now "allows" you to use the volume up key to take a pic, much more aesthetically pleasing and easier to use.
So can an app do this, I would prefer it integrated into the norma camera interface, e.g. say the volume up, you don't need to use the volume up when taking a pic normally?
Does Google Android allow this as such? if so, I might try to right an app/utility, even though I can't code!?!

darn need a rooted device and ROM, I'm more of a stock man myself. Why if this can be done, do Samsung not include it? even as an On/Off option?
lern 2 live with a stock-phone and use another cam-app, or... u know

Procapture on play store does this,it has the option to change zoom key into capture key , sry i dont have a link right now, free version works ok but will only let u take photos in 3mp not 8mp
Yep, "procapture" camera is absolutely the best camera app ATM, no other camera comes even close to the quality of "procapture" but free version only allows 3 MP and that sucks. Buy it and try it...Don't like it? ..return it within 15 min return window..
ps. Use "photo gallery"(fish bowl) app, best gallery on market.
Have you tried the built-in function to take a pic by swiping your palm across the screen?
Whats wrong with the palm across the screen are you that lazy? lol..
Dannybuoy and meemo need to read better... Anyway, I find that using the built in timer is very handy. 5 second timer for example can work even better than having a hardware button.

There's one app that completely turns your phone's camera into a webcam, i had one where the cable had to be connected but now a days might even be wireless. Something like this might work for you. Then have your computer record the webcam feed using a recording software like manycam or Cyberlink or something like that.

You know what, there are a lot of cool apps like the one i posted. here is the entire search list i did on the play sstore.
It's not going to work. Any phone camera won't pick up enough light in the dark to get a clear picture. The easiest way is to buy a webcam and USB extension cord and just use the computer.
Another method is to make a Skype name like dkdhsbj18374 and set it to auto accept video chat. That's for survelliance from a remote location. You can also start the Skype video and use a screen recorder on your PC. Still the quality will be garbage in low light though.

i do appreciate the first set of info u gave. would you happen to remember the app name you were referring to? as for the play store search list thanks but i had already tried that approach only to find so many and it seems as if the user comments never correctly reflect the apps rating. that's why i figured it would be good to ask here and get a more xda-ish recommendation as we seem to hold way higher standards than average joe in the market with a comment like " f#c#kn sucks! Fc on ny G1" or "eh, its ok. best freakin app ever! FTW!" but thanks for your help.

hahah yeah thats true! I blame the market, they dont allow you to type a lot.
But i cant remember the exact name, not to mention the quality was horrible. This was maybe like 4 years ago when i had my Touch pro 2. But i just downloaded DroidCam last night and its freaking awesome. Love the option to have the light on, plus the quality is phenomenal!
Just tested out IPWebcam and its really cool. Best feature: being able to turn screen off and still use it. Its browswer based, you can put the URL into a media player and stream the contents, or you can right click and click save as to record the contents. Live latency is really horrible but might be because of my wifi. But once its recorded its all synced up. Actually am going to use this to see into places i normaly cant, like when working on my car Thanks for having me discover this
Camera and lighting issues aside, iSpy will do time lapse recording on a schedule (very configurable), and it is free so long as you don't need their online features (remote access, sms/email alerts upon motion detection, etc). It has by far the most options of any PC based surveillance software I've found.
Hey everybody
One of the most useful mods I have performed on my Note 2 is a PPI adjustment, which effectively increases the resolution of the screen. I'm not sure why this isn't more commonly discussed, because I think it really takes advantage of the phone's size and tablet-like qualities (especially with the new MultiView update, if that appeals to you). I know many users of the original Note did this mod, which is how I found out about it. I suspect that many other Note 2 users may not be aware of this trick...
WHAT IT DOES
It has the same effect as increasing one's monitor resolution - more content is able to be displayed on screen. If all the icons, text, menus, etc on your Note 2 just seem really BIG to you, this is the antidote.
Look at the two before and after screenshots attached. I would have posted them in line, but as a new user I am prohibited from doing so.
REQUIREMENTS
ROOTED Note 2 - there are other Howto's on XDA that cover this
ROM Toolbox Pro (other apps may work too, possibly including the free version of ROM Toolbox, but this is what I used)
HOW TO DO IT
Root your phone and install ROM Toolbox Pro. Go to the performance tab, and click "build.prop" editor. There will be two entries called "ro.sf.lcd_density"
Within each one, change the property value and the default value to 240. That's four numbers you're replacing. On the last change, go ahead and reboot. Done!
OTHER NOTES
With the original Note, it was common for this mod to break the Market. This is no longer the case. But, there are a few things that break to varying degrees. They're easy to fix though...
TouchWiz: The default launcher will not adapt to the new settings, and you will have a lot of blank space. Fix by installing another launcher. I use Nova.
The Clock app breaks completely. I replaced with Alarm Clock Plus.
The dialer, like TouchWiz, will remain small. You could replace with a custom dialer, but I actually left it as-is because a side effect is that it's really easy to use with one hand.
The Camera app has the same problem. Camera Zoom FX makes a good replacement.
the Samsung keyboard breaks, thus taking down handwriting input with it. Swype works fine, as does s-note.
Aside from those minor issues, everything has worked fine, including all the 3rd party apps I have.
Hope this is helpful to some of you guys.
Seriously, this phone is amazing at 240

This is great. One other app is the email app only takes half the screen on portrait. Really need to figure out how to install the AOSP JB Email app on here....
Another benefit is Swiftkey Tablet keyboard now does the split keyboard on landscape which is easier to type on.
The only problem is that you can't use the handwriting mode with the stylus with the ppi set to 240 because the Samsung keyboard keeps fc'ing. That's my only complaint so far with this phone is that the handwriting mode is tied to the Samsung keyboard.

The market is probably filtering since at this resolution it is probably now considered an x-large device.
Really like this resolution, will need to use for a while to see which apps decide to crap out.
you can also edit the build.prop with root explorer. If you edit the it to be =160 it switched to tablet mode, but crashes a lot
=170 i think its still tablet and doesn't crash

To be honest, with jelly bean letting us choose "tiny" text now and the screen size being so big, I'm not as inclined to change the Res on this thing anymore... in the past with my S2 that was the first thing i would do whenever I flashed a new rom.

Technically the Galaxy Note II does have a higher screen res than the Galaxy S III since the Note 2 does not have a pentile display. Paranoid Android in the future will also let you completely customize the size of everything on your phone without messing up the market due to DPI issues.

anyone with issues sending MMS? I had taken a pic and tried to send MMS but got a unsupported file type or something like that and wont attach the picture. reverting back to 320dpi works.
hopefully the samsung keyboard will work with this in the future, it looks sooo much better with the dpi change .. specially with multi-view (although the menu and border of it doesnt stretch all the way across the screen).
bala gamer is hopefully going to take a shot at FIXING the bits that don't work right at 240dpi !! I especially hope he can fix the keyboard as I LOVE the keyboard.
for the multi window just drag the menu to the TOP OR BOTTOM edge and it displays correctly at 240dpi (the separator is not wide enough but thats not an issue)
Zoom FX is no good since it uses "smaller" images (really small) in burst mode NOT 8mp. I found that out the hard way after I shot some really nice shots and later discovered the res was so small it was useless to me
Hi all, I'm wondering if it's possible to take a screenshot of a specific area on the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. Like say I open a Kindle book and want to capture a specific image or diagram and paste that quickly into OneNote. What I usually do is take screenshots of the entire screen and crop those images in the photo editor, but it's a little tedious if I have lots of screen captures... I played around with the Microsoft Surface tablet in a store today and got a little spoiled with the stylus and ability to import screen captures of specific areas so effortlessly into OneNote lol.
I don't believe there's an app that will do that, yet anyway. Would be a nice feature though.
But keep looking and post back, as I'm sure there's many that would like to use such an app.
We are just stuck with cropping for the moment

Hello All! I currently own an LG V20 and am getting the Pixel XL in February (allegedly). One feature I will need a proper replacement for is the Capture+ app. If you have never used it, it essentially allows you to easily capture partial screenshots with ease. It pulls up four "handles" in the corners of a rectangle, and defaults to a full screenshot size. However, you can move the handles smoothly and quickly to form a smaller rectangle and any spot you'd like on the screen. It was much like the Note 5/7 in that you can get screenshots of only pertinent parts of the screen.
I believe in LG, it's a system app that cannot be downloaded. I'm fine with it being a normal app I need to pull out from the app drawer to accomplish this, but I cannot find any apps that do something similar. Does anyone know of any apps that do this? Any other suggestions for quickly getting partial screenshots? Maybe the Pixel XL has something built into it that I'm not aware of...?
Can't speak for LG, but I'm missing this feature too coming from a Note 4. Since getting this phone I am forced to take full screenshots only, even though most times I needed a small portion only. Would really like to know if there's an app or something for this.

What was it called in the Note? Like "Smart Capture" or something? That was really handy. LGs implementation is possibly even better. Both have their pros and cons.

Yes, Smart Select.
So I found a couple that are sort of nice... Not perfect but will do the trick for now. One is free. One is a paid app. Unfortunately, the paid one is much slicker (comes with 48 hour trial). I attached a screenshot with the two apps shown on my home screen.
Screenshot Crop and Share (Free)
Screen'it (Paid)
Other exciting screenshot capture options

I too wanna port of an app called "Smart Select"【https://youtu.be/OWcAeMXUuS4】 in Samsung S8 which can capture a small rectangular portion, capture in different shapes (predefined or using lasso tool), LONG CAPTURE and a GIF CAPTURE with various pro editing options.
If someone finds any app with all the above features, please reply!!!
48 hour trial would be worth it.
I know you can edit your screenshot and crop after, but be interesting to see what people find/recommend for a non native app
For those unaware, you can do this in Lineage without an app. Just add enable screenshot option in the power menu and then long press it and it will let you drag and select an area to screenshot.

The thing about the Samsung version of it is that the selection area let's you reposition then capture. Also has settings to share directly and cancel without saving. I believe right now the rom that does this natively is RR. It even scales the whole screen down so you don't have to drag to the very edge.
Did anyone ever find out about or port this app
