Okay so I'm in love w/ my g/f's M. Giving up my S3 to come back to the Moto side of things. With that said, I want to get a dev edition.
I'm very familiar with Hash, P3, Dhacker etc being an old Razr owner. With that said not sure if the $200 price difference (ebay used retail vs. new on ebay or Moto for dev edition) is worth it.
Sucks that Moto is somewhat based out of Illinois as to buy the dev edition from their site I would have to pay $77 in taxes...
So I found a couple dev editions on Ebay for $579.
What are your thoughts. I normally stick to AOSP roms, although the new JB OTA is pretty good from Moto after installing on my g/f's M.
The one thing I can't help but notice is the slight lag, which feels like taking a step back from the S3. Chalk it up to the extra gig of RAM I suppose on the S3. Thus, brings me to my main reason of wanting a developer edition. Kernels and OC'ing.
What say you XDA'ers?
The Razr M (Not Droid) - model XT905 - the Aussie Retail Razr M is unlockable just like the Dev Edition Droid Razr M. So for us over here in Oz this is a great thing, but if you need CDMA then maybe not so much. It's a great phone, though.

Matt, where are all you guys hanging out at for this phone? AOSP.US? Noticed Droidrzr isn't active much for this phone, nor is DF. This forum doesn't have much either.

I'm hoping to build some kernels for this phone on the dev edition at least. I know my S3 will handle at least 2100 stable. So it shouldn't be too much of an issue with the M. And now that plenty of kernels have been put out there on the S4 processor, should be relatively painless.
W/ that said I don't know the first thing about ROM'ing. Would love to learn but working 50-60 hour weeks around inmates, I value to my time off to not stress myself over building rom's that would no doubt be buggy and then trying to troubleshoot. Who knows, maybe down the road I'll build up the courage.

A kernel should be easy, if and when they release kernel source. As for roms, that's where everything will happen lol. I have a retail model, sadly but this is one beast of a device. I'm curious about the "around inmates" part of that post lol

It hasn't been officially announced. It is possible but highly unlikely considering they are gonna wanna entice us incredible users to upgrade phones and spend more money with them

Droid DNA all the way. I want one so bad. The question is really wether you want sense or AOSP.

Just my opinion....go Nexus. No more waiting for mythical updates :/
I would expect the DNA to be just like the Inc2.....the best device upon release, but a year later its a forgotten device. Nexi are guaranteed 2 OS version updates.

The thing i want the most is alot of dev support like the inc2 had but i heard that the DNA might be like the Rezound on the support end.

Well they both don't have microSD slots so you would have to spend more for the 32gb nexus
I'm so fresh you can suck my nits...
I ended up buying a Nexus. I never have really cared about the latest or greatest spec'd phone, but updates and roms are what make a phone in my opinion. I previously had an OG droid which was awesome for that. I was kind of let down with the inc2 since I got it late in the game and most developers had jumped ship already. The Nexus has a great community behind it with fast updates. Feels like home again.

I recently had a Dinc2 and bought a GNex outright for 200 new. Best decision ever.
I wont buy HTC ever again, just because they dont update phones as fast. I dont know how much longer the GNex will be supported, but at least it officially runs 4.1.1 and there is no need to hack bootloaders and such.
I also prefer AOSP and love that there is minimal bloatware on the phone.
The DNA is new which is nice, but no sd card (probably all phones will go to this setup) and no removable battery. On a 4G phone? No thanks.
Oh, and I kept my unlimited data...which I dont even use that often (maybe 1 GB) but I dont like Verizon telling me to spend more and get less.

This screams me. I just wish there was a newer phone like the Galaxy Nexus.
I could go on and on about how I feel about Android phone hardware...but that is for another place, another time.

I've started a thread over in General that is similar to this.
It can be found here:

I would appreciate if you could post your upgrade decisions there.
I want to 'index', if you will, upgrades from the Incredible 2.
This may help people with their decisions.
Also, congrats to OP on his/her new phone!
Thanks,

I just made the exact same transition. No firmware to match with ROM's, just have to match up the radio.
One of the biggest differences for me was just how thin the phone was compared to the sensation. It's tough to hold the Sensation now.
Just make sure to back up your IMEI number as soon as you get the phone and have fun there's a lot of stuff to flash here. Your in luck too, cyanogen him self owns this phone and is getting ready to release 4.2 jelly bean nightly soon.

I made this same change just a month ago and I love the s3. One of the biggest difference is changing radios is MUCH easier, no more going into the bootloader and flashing the radio, with the s3 they are called "modems" and you flash it just like you do with a rom. Bigger screen obviously, but also better sound and volume through the speaker. WAY faster in general use, even rooted and overclocked my sensation was still slower than my underclocked s3. There are just as many if not more custom rom's for the s3 and everybody makes accessories for it.
I'm getting the GS3...just waiting to find a good holiday deal on it

as did i. but i did get pretty good resale value out of it, paid 250 and sold it for 200 after 9 or 10 months. was a really good phone but honestly, if you enjoyed your sensation you will LOVE the s3:good:
I meandered on to the development section and was quite surprised to see such recent ROMS and developers working on a cell phone that is turning 3 years old in 5 months. Many EVO buyers have had their contracts expire and are able to upgrade to a new phone. There are much faster phones out there, with better specs that are possibly more interesting to develop for, because you might reach a larger user base. My question to the Devs is why are you sticking to the original EVO? Don't get me wrong, I am a current original EVO owner myself so by all means, keep up the good work, just curious as to why you stuck to such an old device.
Simple answer is its fun! Its a great way to get practice and many devs have friends in the forum. So why walk away completely? If you still have it, you can test away on things you try to build.

Sure. Since you don't have service on the phone, it's basically a really small tablet. All the basic functionality will work, and there is always WiFi.

It's actually SDX Developers...and yes the Moment was the "Evo" of it's time, sadly however, it's time has passed. I'm a new convert over to XDA from SDX, having to give last rites to my Moment a month ago. Really only one active ROM still being worked on (UberMoment 1.6 - props to TheTehk17 for hanging in there :good: ). They never got a GB Rom fully functional (CM7 was close), all dev was, and still is, Froyo. Major hardware limitations and lack of support will probably keep any further ROM upgrades forthcoming.
Inherited an OG to use for now - great to see all the work being done! Waiting for the arrival of the S4 or M7 for upgrade, until then enjoying the plethora of ROM's available!
Upon upgrade, I will be passing the OG on to any dev here who will continue to put it to good use!

Yeah, I never thought the Moment could successfully run Froyo, unless there was a hybrid Froyo/GB Rom. I dev'd a nice ROM for the Moment, but I think I took all the links down a few months ago.

The devs did a pretty good job porting over Froyo ROMs from the Intercept and Transform, and got those pretty functional. Otherwise, the phone would have been stuck on 2.1 Eclair! As mentioned, they have a somewhat working CM7 - buggy, but it does boot up.! The dev that ported that moved on leaving no one to work out the kinks.
So, for me, I'm like a kid in a candy store with not only GB Roms, but ICS, JB, AOSP.......and Sense too! Hell, I'm in hog heaven

I have been going from Forum to forum looking for people to comment on ROM's for the LG Optimus G edition phones but most of them are pretty dead. Is this phone just not that good? Im looking at getting the Verizon LG G2 but i am going to be weary if there is minimal software support for the phone
Went through that with HTC, not doing it again.
This phone is incredible but currently has limited support. We will get some Roms but nothing like S4 or HTC One.

This phone is amazing, support will grow as more countries get the phone. I have been personally reading and watching everything I can find on how to build ROMs, I code websites so I am trying to take that knowledge and apply it.
I say buy it, and that's coming from a S3 that went through hundreds of ROMs, this phone is already better.
The G Pro and G2 are heavily rumored to be on VZW.
If flashing roms (on a daily) is your thing, I'd suggest you don't get either.
But if you're looking for performance, you really can't go wrong with either.
I love the G Pro stock. Its way faster and has more useful features than my old S4.

But why are there almost no roms although it is out in the US and Asia for quite a while?
In all honesty, this phone does not need ROMs, just root and CWM will give you the ability to add mods.
I have every Rom imaginable available to me.on my Note and use to flash daily.
I haven't touched it since I bought this phone.
I agree this is hands down the best phone i have had since the og x, im coming from the note 2 and have no regrets but the fact is its LG and lg has gotten a bad name the past few years. its a sad thing but i doubt much development will happen. Id rather have a few good kernels than a boat load of roms tho. So if your looking for a phone to go crazy with flashing this isnt it.
