Unable to change default Voicemail? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was about to type this up when I found a nice help file on Google site.
If you get the note2 and it says 'error forwarding' when you change from AT&T Voicemail to Google Voicemail, do this:
1. Go to google.com/voice
2. Settings (gear top right)
3. Phones
4. Under Mobile (or whatever you called your 'real' cell number), select Edit
5. Choose Show advanced settings
6. Under Forwarding Options, choose Activate
7. You will get a code that looks like *004*your_google_voice_number#
8. Hit call or 'dial' that code.
Done, when you check your phone, it will say "my carrier" under voicemail

You can also manually change the voicemail number to your google voice number in phone settings along with the call forwarding numbers. This way the voicemail button on your keypad will dial in to google voice services.

They pushed out an update for Google voice today that fixes this issue.

Google Voicemail from Call Logs (AT&T GN2)
I thought Google voicemail was supposed to be integrated with the dialer (voicemail messages should show up in the call logs). There is an option in Google Voice settings to turn this on, but even when I turn it on it doesn't work for me. Does this work for anyone else? BTW, I have the AT&T version.

Google Voice voicemails in Phone app

During the Nexus/ICS unveiling in Hong Kong it was mentioned that while using Google Voice, all voicemails would be shown in the Phone app (alongside missed and recent calls).
They made note of a new API that allows all voicemail services to "plug in" to this functionality.
Have they not enabled this yet for the Google Voice app? I can receive voicemails through the GV app, but they do not show in the Phone app.
Maybe it's something wrong with my setup?

I didn't even know they announced that. My voicemails certainly do not show up in the call log. Although, it would be pretty cool if they did.
hey that's a good question, what happened to that feature? i watched it at the event and it looked awesome. your voice mail played right inside the call log. i havent even heard anything about it since then...

wow. that look awesome! I would love to have that. The google voice app is not very pretty/user friendly. This method is much more elegant.
Yeah, the GV stuff really could stand to be more fully integrated with the OS. For example, wouldn't it be SWEET to receive SMS via GV and then have an option to just send those messages to the default SMS application on your phone? At the moment, there isn't really any good/friendly way for 3rd party apps to interact with the GVApp. +1 for more GV OS integration!

Kinda like iMessage where it is all integrated...
I read somewhere awhile back that they were totally redesigning the GV app...maybe that's what they're waiting on?
Still waiting on MMS support. I hate that when someone sends me a picture message it simply goes into a black hole with no bounce notification to the sender or notification to me that one was sent

True, but all replies to the original incoming SMS will be sent from the cell number and not the Google Voice number.
From what I understand the ability to integrate voicemail into the phone app exists in ICS already but the carriers or an app has to write code to make it happen. So yes if google chose they should be able to use the API they wrote into ICS for GV and integrate it...I for one hope they do, having to go to GV for voicemail suks.

Remove text messaging limit

How do you remove the error message "A large number of text messages are being sent. Press OK to continue or Cancel to stop"
Is this gone with custom ROMs (I'm on stock). This is really frustrating and coded really poorly. I have to send a text message, WAIT, and if I click anywhere other than "OK" it auto-cancels my message. I have to repeat this for every text message until my rate of texting slows down. Aarrrggghhhhh Google!!!!!!!
Surely this must be the 1000th thread on this but I just spent an hour searching on my phone and couldn't find a definitive solution. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is completely different than what the OP is having troubles with.
To my knowledge none of the custom ROMs have removed the built-in limit on sending text message rate.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Ah so the custom ROMs dont' have this problem? How do I turn it off on stock? Drives me crazy.
You'll only be able to override this limit if you can build your own
version of the Android platform with updated settings built-in, or can
get root access to the devices you're using in the field.
Either way, you can alter the SMS rate-limiting as follows:
# sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/
settings.db
To increase the number of SMS messages allowed per period:
sqlite> INSERT INTO gservices (name, value) VALUES
('sms_outgoing_check_max_count', 101);
Or, more simply, to remove the period check altogether:
sqlite> INSERT INTO gservices (name, value) VALUES
('sms_outgoing_check_interval_ms', 0);
However, I'd be more inclined to find a way to not send so many SMS
messages (assuming you can't simple use a data connection). Surely
you can batch multiple answers into a handful of SMS messages? If
it's a simple multiple choice questionnaire, then you could even fit
the entire session into a single SMS.
Anyway, hopefully that helps.
Regards,
Chris

How do you stop Direct Dial from using Skype?

I have no idea how to stop this and its driving me nuts.
I have direct dial short cuts on my home screen and when I press them Skype turns on and it trys to call with Skype. How do I get it to use the phone for my direct dial shortcuts?? If I uninstall skype the shortcuts work fine so its obviously some setting somewhere Im missing..
Anyone know how to do this?????
I think you may have a Call Out action associated with Skype. Normally this does to the phone dialer but can be bound to Skype. Try going to Settings > Application Manager and then hit Menu > Reset App Preferences.
Applications manager> Skype> clear defaults.

It does seem strange that you are getting Skype for a Direct Dial shortcut event though it is not set as the default...
I was able to get the Direct Dial shortcut to bring up Skype and then Skype showed that it was set as the default action. I was then able to clear it and the App chooser then allowed me to set it back to the Phone app.
Maybe clearing all the app preferences will correct the problem. Go into the application manager and hit menu (before you select an individual app). Then select Reset App Preferences. I am showing the screenshot from Jelly Bean (LJ7). It might be different if you are still on ICS.

Uninstall the dial app, install Skype and install dial app and make call. You be promoted what to use Skype or dial app, each one has remember this box. You probably did that at some point that's why is default now. Hope this helps.

Well, add that to the list of "didnt work" things. lol I unistalled skype and the dialer and it still calls up skype when they are installed back.. Amazing.
I also never got a choice between the "phone or skype" when using the direct dial shortcut.

i am having a similar problem with myphoneexplorer contacts folder. if i tap a phone number, skype launches. this is a tablet. phone numbers shouldn't activate anything. iac, i don't want them activating skype.
i have "launcher" . don't see a "go launcher" in apps. is "launcher" the same? and if so, what was "going on" with it? how did you modify it?
(btw: i tried the resetting all defaults. this didn't help the skype problem, but it did re-enable all the disabled apps)
also, settings>all>skype: clear defaults is greyed out. can't use it.

So there is no way to see which contacts are online using this right?
If you're on a computer, go to Google plus page and turn hangouts on, there is a green line under the picture of contacts who are online. My list of contacts that show are just frequently used ones though. I know this isn't the same but maybe it will show up in the app soon.

It doesn't show status messages, status, nor does it allow you to set either one. This is a terrible step back from Google Talk. Not to mention it forcibly lumps all of your Google+ contacts in with your GTalk contacts.
That doesn't help me. I don't talk to those people. I use GTalk to talk to a select few people who have limited SMS per month and one person who uses a tablet with mobile data and a dumbphone.
Google really dropped the ball with this pile of junk app. The new iteration of the Music app isn't any better. They've been cocking everything up since the horrid 4.2 lockscreen abomination.

[Q] Touch Tone not working

I am running [AOSP 4.3.1 Stable [DanKang] Slim + optimizations] and my touch tone isn't working on calls. For example, when I call a support number it asks to press 1 for department A, 2 for department B and so on. When I press a number there is no response at all. I have tried a few different support numbers and it never works on my phone. I have a stock GS3 that I tested with the same support numbers and touch tones are working.
Dial pad touch tones is enabled, what could be causing this?

Must be really dilapidated old exchange. Switch to pulse instead of DTMF. Can't remember the process right now. It will come to me.
Can you even enable pulse dialing on a cell phone? IIRC pulse dialing works by simulating the hanging- and picking-up of the phone in quick succession, and that can only be done with landlines.

When certain numbers are dialed I can not select the extension. Other numbers work without incident. I am currently back to official stock, but have tried the 4.3, full stock, slim, and deodexed;
same issue. I have also tried various apps- no avail.
can any one explain how to set the pulse dialing in the dialer to see if that works?
or any other suggestions? another phone is not an option at this moment.

DTMF is enabled by Keypad tones on my AOSP 4.3 Rom. I believe for Touchwiz stock roms its under
dialer>menu>Call Settings>Ringtones and keypad tones>Keytones
On some S3, under Call Settings > Other Call Settings > DTMF Tones
EDIT - Just realized. If you had Bluetooth on and connected, then I know for a fact these touch tones don't come over bluetooth. Best if you try without bluetooth on.

I have the SGH-T999. I have contacted t-mobile and they say there is no option on the SG3 to set or adjust the DTMF.
Do you have this same phone?
