I've went through hours of research and to no avail feel as thought I've gotten nowhere.
I bought this phone used, with what looks to be from an AT&T carrier previously (based on start up screen). Did not come with original SIM card. I want to be able to use StraightTalk services with it, and have already bought the SIM and is on its way to my house. I also want the ability to uninstall the factory installed apps that AT&T locked onto the phone.
From what I was informed, getting the calls and texts from StraightTalk onto the phone will be a simple task. Using StraightTalks 3G internet however wont work. That's were the unlocking comes in. Unlocking will also let me uninstall those factory apps as well I hope?
Would greatly appreciate any help I could get on this topic and hope that maybe this will help any future views with the issue.
Thank you!!!
No need to unlock. Your data will work fine as long as you adjust apn. To rid your phone of bloatware however you will be required to root. Not unlock.. The iphones are a little different story, but you don't have that so don't worry about it

Excellent! Will the APN change take place during the StraightTalk transfer when I put in the new SIM card? Manually, Automatically?
Also, rooting could be potentially dangerous based on what I read. Are There any good guides on this?

APN change takes place once the StraightTalk SIM has arived. Details are suppose to be provided within shippment.
What I don't understand is, once I put the AT&T Compatible SIM into my phone and transfer my number over, without unlocking the device this is, will the service be provided over AT&T towers?

No, you will have to go into settings, mobile networks, and search when the new sim card is placed in the phone.
Rooting is not dangerous, installing things on the phone that aren't made for it or installing apps from non trusted sources are dangerous.

As long as it is ATT and not TMO sim it will use ATT towers to deliver service to the phone.

is it possible to use simple mobile on the incredible 2? i know it has a sim card but i am not sure. If i can what steps do i need to take in order to do so. Thanks
You would need to either contact Verizon's global team and have them provide you with the unlock code or you could purchase an unlock code from eBay.

Once you unlock the SIM it should work. I unlocked mine and have been able to use the straight talk Nokia SIM that I had. It works except I don't get 3G connection. EDGE only. Otherwise it works fine. Will come in handy whenever I travel to Mexico next month.

Hi everyone,
So I installed CM10 on my P930. Since then, I couldn't connect to my carrier's cellular network. I can't make calls, receive text messages, or access mobile data. Can anyone give me some advice in terms of what to do?
Thanks.

Hi Rani,
No luck. I flashed every single baseband there was in this thread by drumist (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842763), but none worked.
well try unbrick and don't flash official ics
I tried the unbrick, no luck either.
I just noticed that the lock screen says no SIM card, when I actually do have a SIM card installed.

No, the original carrier is Bell. I unlocked it and I'm using it on Rogers now. I tried another Rogers SIM, but still don't work.
You probably need to put in your APN settings.
does anyone have the Bell stock gingerbread ROM i could restore? Want to send it to LG for warranty repair. I looked at the SIM slot and it looks like its missing a gold contact (top right).
set apn....

Ok SO I could not find a proper thread for this since there are SO many threads. The issue I'm having is I got a Samsung galaxy S III that was unlocked, and after I put my ATT sim into it I could recieve texts and calls but I could not recieve data. So I rooted it and applied clockwork with all my mods and figured I could find some setting that would fix it... well I was wrong. I tried global, GSM and LTE settings none of which would give me data. If there is anything anyone can do to help I would be more than appreciative.

While I agree that you should always call at&t so they can register a device to your account, this will not help his current data issue
OP, is this an international s3, T-Mobile or at&t? What firmware/rom is installed? Again, verify your imei is intact
Ok so this is a verizon Galaxy S3. It is rooted running 4.1.2 JB, Kernal 3.0.31. After I got the phone I did go to an ATT store to register a micro sim because i didn't have one at the time. So the imei is registered to my sim card perfectly. I can get calls and texts without any issue but no data. How do I figure out what the apn settings are and if I have the right configuration?

You do realize you're trying to use a cdma phone (verizon) on a gsm network (at&t), right? Different radios. Different technology. Won't work
Well it was unlocked at the phone has a gsm option so if it wasn't compatable I don't see why they would have the option there to actually use a gsm network.

You need to read more.
this phone only supports GSM with EDGE data.* This essentially means that you'll get 2G data speeds (unless you have a WiFi connection) because it doesn't support UMTS/HSPA+ which is required for international and U.S. 3G data. the 4G LTE frequency supported by this phone is only used in the U.S.* For those who don't know UMTS/HSPA+ is the 3G technology used by GSM carriers internationally (and used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S.) which is different from the CDMA/EV-DO 3G technology used by Verizon and Sprint.*
This phone IS unlocked, that part is correct. But only for gsm carriers
So its preventing me from recieving ANY form of data possible?? It is a Verizon phone and I have ATT so you mean it doesn't support GSM then right?

You're in an at&t s3 forum with a verizon s3 that has zero data. If you really want to pursue this issue, you should start looking around in the Verizon S3 forums

you have a Verizon S3, that is the FIRST place you need to go. always go to the forum for the device you have, bro.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1708
If I'm not mistaken, some Verizon devices will not work on US gsm networks even if unlocked, only foreign gsm networks.
Saw an article about this, although it might have been a different phone that was being discussed.

If you are going to stick with AT&T, that is the way to go if you want to have data. No worries. Stupidity is only if you didn't learn anything. You had ignorance of the situation and now your don't. Do some research on any phone before you buy next time (especially if branded from another carrier). This can save you a lot of headaches as you have just learned. Just remember some basics from this forum. Good luck.
hello, everyone. I bought L900 from ebay, then when i got it, i began to change it,i use the i605's sim chip to take place the default, then i began to use note2 tool kit to flash the insecure stock lj1 to the phone, then the recovery, and i use the recovery to flash the ljc moden and an avkp8's rom,now I use dfs to set the ruim config to ruim only and the set the data pap an ppp account, last change the mobile ip.then reboot the phone (I have successfully change the five l900s to adjust our country's mobile network, this time i do the same job) but i found it could recognize the gsm and wcdma‘s network, i counldn't see the cdma's signal only when i insert the cdma uim card, the signal display like a circle and rod.but in phone's info i found the esn and sid prl could be read out( i have set the network automatic),just like sth prevent it to connect the mobile network.
then I use the root66's stock alj1's rom to restore the phone use ##786#, then i use cdmaworkshop to write cdma parameter to the phone, still no cdma network, the signal display like before, I have check the TOP Q&A,and sb no network connection’s way they always say stock rom restore, but it doesn't work, what can i do now?:crying::crying::crying::crying:
1. this is illegal and cannot be discussed on xda.
2. why dont you just buy i605s in eBay instead of a phone that isn't designed for international use nor sim card use

l900 cheaper than i605 but configuration is same.so the reason is very simply.
may i ask how can i reset all NV item. and why i see sb say change the meid and phone lock?
No promises on whether or not it'll work for your situation but you can try ##72786# in the dialer. And this isnt illegal. And I'm pretty sure sewing as how there are guides here showing u how to do this that its allowed to be discussed

Unlocking bootloader (rooting phones) is actually illegal. Since last year. So we all kinda "broke the law" by unlocking our device's. Read itt on flipboard last year. I dont know if it still applies

I have read nothing saying rooting saw illegal. Only unlocking. Unlocking being carrier unlocking.

hi,I don't want to talk about how to hack the phone,I just want my phone normal using. so i really want to know how to recovery the nv item ,i just want the network connection come back when i use cdma frequence (800-900 mhz). And why the mobile network gone, even if i write back the first parameter.
I am pretty sure this was asked before but either the search in here nor in Google gave me a proper answer. Is is possible to make this phone work on AT&T? It uses Sim cards and is able to be used in Europe. But I also know American carriers like to block the Simcard use on those phones within the USA. So is it possible to use this phone on AT&T?

Yeah kinda. But I was thinking it would be easier then that. So when u take it over to Europe u couldn't even put a simcard from Europe in? That kills the function of being a world phone.
