Currently running MIUI 2.10.12 with android version 4.0.4 from (http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/two-roms-miui-dhd-ics-4-0-4-2-11-2-new.18060/).
My battery right now runs out far too quick, doesn't even last a day.
Is it worth buying a more powerful battery?
Any help is much appreciated!
Install BetterBatteryStats; you can get it here on XDA. Look at wakelocks and alarms to figure out what is draining your battery. Although, I think that one day with moderate use is pretty good battery life. I just carry a spare battery and swap it if I run out.
I have the same problem as most of the dhd owners , besides there is no ( more powerfull battery ) , the dhd battery is size-limited , so u can't get a bigger one ( bigger = more capacity ) , and when u read about those golden (2100 mah ) batteries with same size then u are reading nothing but a bull**** .... that's what I think due to the li-ion batteries facts

I agree with bananagranola. Depends on how you use your phone. You can always check what amount of battery your apps use and consider less demanding alternatives (where possible). Auto Brightness and switching to another CPU governor may help, too. Also, if you don't mind having a slower bandwidth, try switching to 2G.
I have two batteries myself and it must be a really "battery-heavy" day for me to have to swap them in the evening.

Has anyone else had any battery life problems with the new Rom by ookba? I have one of those extended life batteries in my excalibur ( it is a 2400 mAh ) and I have found it loses power much quicker after I installed the new Rom by ookba. By the way I love the Rom it is awesome! But I was wondering if there is something I could do to increase the battery life more like it was befor I installed the new Rom. I do not want to take the new Rom off cause it Rocks!
I would like to have the battery last a bit longer though.. I don't know if it is the titanium panels or what that is making it lose power so quick after I have it on all day ( with bt off and wi-fi only occasionally ) it drops to 70 to 60 percent power by nightime. I have the normal stuff set up on the phone to use the best possible battery life but uses a lot more battery than befor I put the new Rom by ookba in.
I am looking for some answers but do not want to take this super Rom off my phone.
Thanks!
Personally my battery life has drastically improved since I moved from one of the Rose's Roms to 3VO's Rom. I had no idea that a Rom could make such a big difference in terms of battery life.
My battery life has gone down since upgrade to "3VO Rom ver 2.50 080809"(But still I like this rom). It only lasts 18hrs without any extensive usage. I will suspect that its radio which is causing this drain.

That is reallly odd. I have a 1550 mAh extended battery, and in one day of decent usage I only go down to 80% on a daily basis.
What I do notice is that once I hit 35-40%, battery usage increases insanely (but i am assuming that this is due to some anti-fail methods used to preserve the phones functions and whatever you may be working on , but i may be wrong). But besides that, i have had no real power issues...

same thing here. i switched back to 2.0 and have been very happy with the battery life...
This has been a well documented issue with the 2.50 version of the ROM. Ookba is aware and has mentioned reverting to an older core but keeping the same UI tweaks and feel of 2.50. If the drain is that much of a concern try version 2.00, 071809. It supposedly has a 'hole' in it but I never noticed it. The icons are a little different and there aren't as many UI tweaks but I had GREAT battery life on it. But if you can deal with it for a while Ookba I am sure will have something for us to try when he gets done over on the Maple page. The Dash 3G needs 3VO too ya know. So its up to you. Try the other ROM that doesn't have as much eye candy but has better life until a new release, or deal with the battery drain like the rest of us and wait for a new release. I just close out my programs as much as I can. I have a 960 maH and I get about 24 hours with regular use. Up to you.
battery life is so good so far
the battery life was good and improved and the mobile changed totally as i feel i got new one thanks for 3vo rom
I have noticed that my battery is also going low very quickly after this rom upgrade. today I'v removed omap clock settings from startup and looking what will happen. I think the OMAP is eating more power from my battery. the battery is 960mah and lasted 3-4 days with previous NRG rom.
well i completely agree i am using same battery and it was draining very quickly so i switched back to kavana 6.1 and every thing was normal again

I improved battery performance by using the OMAP Clock GUI and setting the low-end to 180 and the high-end to 252.
I agree, it must have something to do with the last version because the previous versions didn't drain so quickly...
I disabled omap and nothing significant happened, during the night in standby mode the battery was drained from 60% to 25%. now I disabled titanium panels and changed back to sliding panels. And there is IT! the battery life is much better, I think the "power eater" was titanium panel. You can give it try and post results.
remove check status mscr
its in the startup folder. helped me alot. before with my phone habits i would make it about 3hrs if that.
ookba posted this in his ROM thread.

There's no way that's possible. If anything, HTC Sliding Panels will eat more battery than CHome because it's a loyout no longer native to the OS. checkstatus.mscr is the culprit. Almost positive.
I Do Completly Agree ...
Yes I feel the 3VO Rom Ver 2.50.080809.. makes the effect on the performance of the Battery Life, I would indeed like make a STRONG APPEAL on behalf of all the users of 3VO Rom Ver 2.50.080809, to MR. OOBKA that he should get us some way of it , because we love and admire his hard work a Lot.

Battery Patch
Guys, I built a patch file that makes a few changes in an attempt to help battery life. Please install it and reboot.
Also could be found on the second post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=224547&d=1252178358
well i'm 3 hours into testing the patch.. gonna see if i can beat my normal 24-36 hours limit. i'll let you know tomorrow if i see any improvement
for me its a big improvement almost half day since i last charge my dash and with normal used im on 93%, before it will eat up 20% just texting from time to time.
tomorow i'll post again, before i can used my dash with the newest rom for just 1 1/2 day or less.
*70% left for 24 hrs
im in the middle of figuring out something. Its highly unlikely this is ookba's problem but, i installed the patch and got great battery life for 2 days about 5 hours longer than normal. I fully recharged before i went to bed and woke up this morning with my battery at 38% thats a 62% lose in less than 8 hours... anyone have any ideas. I'm used to running 18-30 hours non stop on this battery
2.50 and 2.60 rom update
i keep getting an error on my phone from time to time
Tmobile Dash 3G Mapl100
error: Cannot find window "DesktopExplorerWindow"
ive done hard reset's and everything still comes up on both roms
Seems it's normal for Android devices to have poor battery life. So us having poor battery life on our Kaisers is probably due to Android and not the porting of Android to Kaiser.

buddy of mine has htc hero the phone is awesome if I were on sprint I would buy one, but I have att. anyways his batery life is terrible thats his only complaint
Yes same here, a colleague at work has a Hero, gets a day's use out of it tops, another colleague has flahsed his with 2.1 and says its a lot better, plus he can underclock ther cpu when in 'sleep' mode to save more power, nice.
How is the app called that can underclock in sleepmode ?
thx in advance
My colleague isn't in today, so can't ask him, but a quick google search suggested an app called 'SetCPU' this you can set max and min frequencies at, not free I don't think, but .99p not bad
Actually the poor battery life is a combination of android's power management and the result of us hacking it into hardware it wasn't designed for, however the point is still valid, and is partially due to the differences in the OS itself, which, being linux underneath, has a lot of stuff ticking away unseen.
Best practice, from my experience, is to just plug it into the charger at night, and use it wisely, putting it to sleep when not in use, killing tasks, and not using high drain functions unless needed.
Yea the battery life is dreadful on the android even whilst running on NAND thingy. Before I went sleep it was 81%, when I woke up (i only had a 7hour sleep) it was 65% :|
errrr, 81% to 65% drop in battery really isn't that bad, honestly, when you sleep, your kaiser does not, there are always a few tasks running.
However I usually put my kaiser on charge while I sleep, and I feel it's a good habit to get into with android....

I also do that sometimes, although I have read many places that charging Li-ion batteries more than they need can lead to shorter battery life. I know the batteries internal circuitry cuts the power off at 100% and recharges again when the batterys discharged a bit but from what I've read the best way to do it is to only charge when your battery is discharged a significant amount. I know they're not supposed to have that memory effect, but so many places with different information and I just cant make out which is right and which isn't. Makes me nervous when I'm unsure about small things like this...
Have heard this also, but never had any issues so far, however everything has a limited life, one day my battery or my kaiser will die, i'd prefer it to be my battery
Ah I think I might just switch back to WM6.5 < my battery lasted for so long even when i used it lots. Though once android has a better battery life, I will come back to it! Lol

I've always read that's your Li-batteries are best when fully charged all the time (if possible). I never had any battery problems in life.
Just recieved my 2400 MAH extended battery, I have had the device running now for 12 hours straight with all connectivity turned on (including syncing, wifi, data) and in that time I have also done some web browsing. The battery is still at 100%.
I know it is an extended battery but still, by now my standard battery would be at 50% roughly.
My concept is that the standard battery the phone comes with maybe faulty or have some problems?
Any thoughts or ideas?

It heavily depends on the ROM you're using... I've tested several Sense and non Sense ROMs and the variation of the battery could go from 1 to 3 days aprox. I'm actually using OpenDesire latest ROM and its easy to get 2 days of battery life with a normal use and 3G/Sync enabled all the time.
Obviously having a more powerfull battery also helps...

Well i've got an unrooted desire and using stock 2.2 rom. The battery life has been so bad, even when i turn syncing off.
I know its an extended battery but still why was the standard battery so bad
Hmm. Not sure. I don't have a bad battery life, but that sounds pretty awesome as far as battery life goes. You wouldn't happen to have a link to where you bought that from would ya? Would be interested in taking a look at it my self. Is it larger then the normal battery, or just higher capacity? I know many of the aftermarket batteries are a good deal larger then the stock ones.

I can't see how your battery could possibly show 100% after 12hrs usage
It's either bad battery stats, or the battery status indicator isn't scaled correctly for your battery.
Regards,
Dave
it is probably because its voltage figure is still higher than that of a standard one.
Hello Champs.. I am first time user to this forum so pls excuse any idiot questions if it may seem.
I tried to go through threads to find answers but got completely confused, so though to put my question in simple words here.
I have Desire HD running task killer and Juice defender ultimate with extreme power saving option set and also optimized settings but still my phone don't last more than a day of normal usage. I just check emails, read news and call.. I do not play games and use any CPU intensive app. Phone is not rooted and running 2.3.5v of android
One of my friends told me after flashing ROM, battery power is improved by 40% in case of his tablet, so I am wondering if there is any suggestion for me to use for my Desire HD mobile. I have tried all options at application and settings level to improve the battery life.
As I am not too techincal in this field, if someone could write me few high level steps from start to end to get better battery life ROM and / or jellybean on Desire HD, I'll try to find out low level details of those steps in this forum and root (and flash) my mobile.
My sole requirement is to get as much battery as possible and if possible, some latest android version (4.1 or 4.2) to avail the new features.
Also, would there be an option to take the snapshot of current mobile setup in case if rooting / flashing goes wrong, I could revert back to the current version without loosing settings / data.
Thanks for your help.
two things, go to settings>about phone> battery
Or something like that. Take screenshots of your battery consumption, and the amount of time for each. Without that we can't know what's really causing your battery drain.
That said, a day of use will pretty much wind down your phone, the DHD has a very poor battery, decent sized screen, and most modern smartphones don't last terribly long anyways. However, you said you weren't using it too hard, so I'm not sure what it could be
As for juice defender, make sure that the intervals are set to no less than 15 minutes. 10 minutes pushing it. if you set it to 5 minutes, your phone will constantly be waking up from sleep (ultra battery saving mode), and constantly enabling and re-enabling radio. That'll cause more drain than it will save. At 15 you'll notice definitive increases, and at greater your battery will only get better.
Get rid of the task killer, or disable autotask killer and keep task killing to an absolute minimum. Never kill all your user apps at once. Kill only very large resource hogs (e.g. after playing a game, kill it). An autotask killer is very bad for your phone, and for your battery. Linux naturally tries to keep as many processes 'running' or cached in the background, using up a lot of your ram- it makes multitasking better, so in linux this is a good thing. With windows, it does the opposite, and if you run out of RAM you're screwed. A task killer will try to ruin that behavior, and in the end both performance and battery life will suck. It hurts battery life because after you kill that app, it'll just restart itself in the background- using more CPU therefore battery. Plus it also wakes your phone up from sleep when it needs it. I would only recommend a task killer for a phone with 512mb of RAM.
If it's an older battery, you could also have lost a lot of it's charge. I recommend installing battery monitor widget, and letting it run in the background. It'll estimate your mAH (battery capacity). If it's over 1,000, you're fine. If it's around 800, not bad, still doable. If it's at around 600, I would recommend going in for a replacement battery. I'm using an Anker 1500 (amazon), and I highly recommend it. Mugen 1600 is very good one, but it'll cost you a lot more money. I would not recommend an original HTC one.
finally, installing a custom ROM may or may not help battery life. With HTC Sense based ROMs, I've noticed a battery increase. In AOSP (unmodded, as google intended) gingerbread ROMs, you'll also notice a battery increase. With AOSP ICS, JB4.1.2 and 4.2.1 battery life is hit and miss, some ROMs will get you better battery, some will get you worse. You'll need to experiment around with it.
Also, yes you can backup everything after you install a custom recovery. I recommend looking up AAHK (advanced ace hack kit) on google and youtube, as well as rooting and S-OFF in general on youtube.
Thanks for your reply... Really appreciated. I'll look at the suggestions and see if it is unnecessary to root if 1 day battery is expected.
Do you think recommended high power battery actually improves usage time or people just compare their used up battery with new high capacity ones and think they hv got more juice in it. If high capacity ones really give another 2-3 hours of browsing as compared to OEM 1230 mah battery, I would rather buy it instead of flashing Rom.

I thought people were just exaggerating (i still have hope that i'm exaggerating) but man, i just got this phone and holy hell is the battery getting destroyed by "android os"
It won't even last a day with minimal/medium usage (some bluetooth and hotspot use here and there)
I'm coming from a galaxy s3 (which had better battery life).
I've tried installing a 5.1.1 rom but it seems to have no effect.
Has anyone figured out how to 'fix' this? Or can recommend a good rom (or kernel?) to get battery life representative of what i think a 3000 mah battery should be?
Thanks.

Greenify and the .97 OTA seems to provide decent battery life. Getting about 5 hours+ of SOT. Try using a separate app to see which apps are consuming the most battery and disable all the system apps you don't use.
I installed a barebones rom.
What concerns me is i had the same set up on my Galaxy S3 (5.1.1. lollipop with same apps), and the battery life on this zenfone has just been atrocious (leading me to believe 5.1.1 is not the problem, per se).
Am I wrong, did they not optimize this phone properly or something?
I do not have any issue with batery life. Mine last one day easy with medium to heavy use. Just do some charging cycles
I usually get a day with 4 to 6 hours SOT, without doing anything special to save battery
Do 3 drains to 1 % - you may find it stays longer during the lower 20% range so use a youtube film or sommat to blast it down,
then do a factory reset on the latest build.
Did this at the beginning when was only getting 10hrs max ugh !
Now easy 36hrs decent usage
I get a full days use (medium/heavy) with mine, not rooted not custom rom. I usually have about 20% left before it hits the charger. I have noticed small increases in battery life at every firmware update. I can't really complain, came from a Galaxy S5 and battery was about the same if not worst, but S5 had removeable battery. I've used a lot of smartphones and honestly, most will get your through the day and evening but that's about it, yeah, you might have some for the next day but most will through it on the charger by end of the night. My wife has the Iphone 4s and yeah, the battery lasts longer but the screen is almost half the size of mine, screen size makes a big dif.
