hey all anyone else have this problem. Voice actions (or even the crappy voice comand) does nothing but search the web.
I can't dial, or lookup contacts, or do anything else.
Also the app appears to be out of date and cannot be updated or uninstalled.
This is a serious showstopper. I use voice actions for everything...:crying:

Basically there are a lot of people with the same problem.
When we hold down the magnifying glass and say "Call someone" the person isn't dialled and instead a google search page is displayed. The search terms on this page are "Call someone"
Its almost as if the phone recognized the word call, but ignored its responsibility to actually call the person, and instead just thinks we want to search google for these terms.
I have a hunch it down to some of us installing the android keyboard to obtain voice input, before another method to obtain the feature was realised.
So my question to you suffering with this....
How did you enable voice input on your desire?

I have this problem too its very annoying

Sometimes it works for me, sometimes it ignores me.
ie sometime I say "dial xxx" and it calls them, other it does a google search. Sometimes I say "directions to xxx" and it opens directions/maps - others it google it again.
Unfortunately saying "what can I say" doesn't tell me anything - what I really need is some documentation on the keywords / commands required but I can't find reference to them anywhere.
Anyone know of any?
Thanks, M1
Press the magnifying glass and say nothing and it brings up search. Say something and the same happens.
Fixed
Maybe it has something to do with the local settings? I can choose the language and country > English(Netherlands), but not English(UK/US) or something..
So yes, I can't get it to work either..voice search 2.1 and android keyboard installed..
Have you actually installed the voice app? You are long pressing the mag key? The voice app mike is coming up?

Is Voice Search 2.1 a more recent version than the one pre-installed in the Desire? When I check my applications I get 'Version 140' under Voice Search....
It isn't pre-installed at all on the Desire, or wasn't on mine. The reason it doesn't work is because it isn't installed (in UK)
What needs to be changed to be able to use Voice Search as the default dialer app instead of Voice Dialer over bluetooth? The Voice Search app does a much better job of performing actions, but it requires me to touch the screen to activate it. When I press the MFB on my Q2 it only launches the Voice Dialer and gives me no options to change the app.
I found an issue report for this on Google, but thought maybe the devs here could do it better/faster.

I already filed an issue back right after Voice Actions came out:

Thanks for the response. I starred your Issue as well. Hopefully this will get addressed quickly.
Bugged Cyanogen about this possibly being rolled into CM6.1.

Hey guys,
I'd love to make use of the text response feature when someone calls me but there doesn't seem to be a Google Voice intent or option anywhere is there?
I heavily use my Google Voice number to the point I don't give out my cell phone number! I just tested ignoring a call with the text option and the text came from my cell phone number.
Has anyone figured out how to get it to use Google Voice? I have successfully configured texting from contacts/people and even voice actions because both had intents that popped up but nothing for the decline call feature.
Same issue here. Searched around, haven't been able to find an answer yet. I apologize if I missed something - Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This may be something I'm interested in for future use.

Anybody?
Sorry, just trying to bump this thread. It seems ridiculous to me that Google would release a flagship Android device that doesn't allow full integration with another major product so naturally related, Google Voice - especially considering how hard they've been pushing integration with Google+. (I'd love VOIP to be activated too, but that's another can of worms...)
Plus, this seems like a pretty simple issue since GV can be made the default for SMS quite easily elsewhere in ICS (and Gingerbread, Froyo) as the OP states. Hopefully I'm just mistaken, thanks for the help!
So Google Voice doesn't work reliably with the P6. If you try to make a call through Google Voice (official app) the dialer gives the error "Call Not Sent" and the phone instead makes the call through the SIM card's phone number. This must be due to some customizations Huawei have made with the dialer. Sometimes if you hang up quickly, the call will be completed through a Google Voice phone number, but this is rare.
It also might be related to the permissions manager, but disabling it still didn't resolve the problem. I tried different dialer apps, but that also didn't fix it. Any ideas? Making GV calls over data (Groove IP, etc) isn't an option for me.
I've emailed Huawei a couple of times without any response and contact Google Voice through their support page, and basically there is little hope that this will be fixed anytime soon. Unless CM or MIUI are ported.
i already asked this ques few days ago and noone replied... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2435521
I'm actually talking about the Google Voice app:

Hi! I recently acquired a Samsung s20+, after years of having an iPhone.
I use voice assistant to make WhatsApp calls quite a lot since I have to talk to people abroad, while I'm driving.
I never had issues with iPhone doing this, but now with Google Assistant it hasn't been possible. Whenever I try to make a WhatsApp call or videocall, it just uses the built in phone app. So far the only thing the Assistant can do on WhatsApp is sending text messages.
I contacted Google customer support , but they weren't helpful at all. Thought I ask around here.
thx a lot in advance
Why dont you try using Bixby?
Bixby is better at doing in app actions on 3rd party apps. You frequently call one particular contact on whatsapp then make it a bixby routine by telling bixby what to do exactly. Call out that routine while you are driving.
yep thats solution but not much useful, what if he have 1000 contacts... 1000 routines??? on firsr version on bixby on my old note 8 it worked, i can speak make call(or videovchat) by Messenger to.... or WA.. but now...
what do you even tell Google Assistant? Hey Googl, make a call 'to someone' via Whatsapp?
