C'mon, son! It's a Nexus! You root it the same way as always, there's no cat and mouse game with Google.

I think I'm stupid, because I flashed zip file for rooting, but superuser doesn't gain root access, why?

Ok i've got the file i have to flash to get root access. But what if i dont get into Recovery? There's just a green laying android with a red sign...
That's stock recovery. You need to flash a custom recovery to flash a superuser zip

use fastboot and push the recovery image.
Questions like this is why before you use a tool box you should understand what it is doing first. The same method should work regardless of the version on nexus devices.
The way to do it didnt change at all...

Same here
"su" in termial throws:
"Permission Denial: broadcast asks to run as user -1 but is calling from user 0; this requires android.permission.INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS_FULL or android.permission.INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS"

Solution: Flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.97.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 via CWM recovery.
I cannot gain root access with superuser 3.1.3 also, it fails to get root...
Existing 3.1.3 binary isn't working. Superuser app shows up, but no apps can get root, this happens: http://imgur.com/a/KePvc
Can't get Superuser 3.1.3 to work either... But it works without problems when using the SuperSU binary.

Where is that found??
If you want superuser and not superSU..
Superuser 3.2 RC3 works.

Since I coudn't get it to work with Superuse 3.1.3, I installed SuperSU (0.97). Everything works as expected... As soon as I switch back to the Superuser binary, root access is broken again.

The same way you root any other Nexus device.
Flash CWM recovery, flash SuperSu zip file. Takes about 10 seconds.
Thread with the link to the flashable SuperSu zip file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
And CWM in case you don't have that yet:

I don't know which stock ROM you used, but Jellybean (4.1.1) gave my superuser app fits. I used Chainfire's Supersu.zip file instead of the superuser.zip the second time, and the phone has been fine ever since. I think I you should use it instead of that superuser.zip file if you haven't already.
i worked it out,i wiped the device and flashed the same rom that come with root in it.and everything fix now.
thanks to all of you that tried to help me.
by the way this is the rom- http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...747UCDLK3.7z&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13593235906782
Note that it has the same Supersu app that I uploaded as a zip file. That other superuser.zip file can sometimes cause you problems.

Yep. But if you install cyanogen or some other custom rom you will have permanent one.
Woke up this morning to notification of new software update from att. I'm already on the official KK update from couple of months ago. Anybody else get this? What is the update?
http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB420581&cv=820
From the above link...
"Update to android 4.4, including improved security".
So what does this mean? What exactly in 4.4 has been updated? What security updates? Anyone know?

Thanks for reply rom
But i actually meant did anyone know specifically the differences much like Andy's question
The update forced on my phone, crashed it because I had a custom recovery, so I had to flash back to. Jelly Bean and now I can't obtain root after re-updating.

Have you tried it on a device thats had the new ota update installed?
Also I thought there was a security concern with the kingo root method, something about it being from China and contains malwares that sends files back to its home server, supposedly these files are the ones necessary to clone the device.

I haven't seen a clear answer on this, so does anybody know what root methods still work after the new update? If they all still do, is there anything I should do differently in the rooting process?
You have to wait till one of the methods gets an upgrade
BAD ASS G3
Well seeing as how the d851 boot loader is shipping unlocked from T-Mobile I think it would be pretty safe to say that once you manage to properly install the 10m OTA, you would simply flash TWRP from purpledrake in fastboot and from there flash supersu.

I used Stump root and mine is rooted again. I had to use the brute force root to get it done in Stump. After that I installed SuperU, TWRP and Busy Box.

Purpledrake probably replaced the M boot.img with the C boot.img. If it did that means your back on the C kernel and if it didn't you no longer have the modded disabled root checker.
