Hi,
I haven't used my Xperia Play in ages... It's literally been in the dock used as an Alarm Clock for the past 6 months or so.
I rooted and unlocked the bootloader ages ago and installed ICS and DooMLord's Kernel, Currently on 4.0.3 and Kernel 2.6.32.9 but as I say this is very outdated.
I would like to update my Xperia Play today and start to use the device for portable gaming again.
Which ROM is best? I believe that GB offers the best Gaming performance / Compatibility as the Touchpads work on all games?
Like I say I've not been on here in ages and really want to use a ROM which offers good speed / performance for gaming.
What are my best options? Pitfalls I need to look out for?
Any help would be great as I want to update and clean this phone up today if possible if not over the next couple of days.

Anyone?
Go for a NXT rom.
Whats that? A gingerbread ROM? ICS?
If I'm downgrading from ICS to gingerbread what order do I do it in? Concerned about the Kernels missmatching and bricking
I'm pretty sure if you ftf to stock 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 the kernel gets reflashed too (but i might be wrong) and you can just ftf to stock no matter where your at

Cola???
For GB Roms i suggest this two, you'll get a good performance:
HERE NXT light Ed
HERE Dixperia 2
And for ICS Roms, there is a big difference in performance but this one is really great, i can run 95% of the games with virtually no lag:
HERE MIUI Australia for Xperia 2011 by CosmicDan
That MIUI one also has a plus! you get an enormous(really big believe me) internal storage so you can install a lot of games
As for JB Roms, there are several now that have a good performance but still on Beta state so i can't recommend any of them just yet.
If you follow the instructions on the threads you should be fine with the kernel flashing and all, for most of them i prefer LUPUS kernels by wedgess just(except for MIUI which has it's own kernel).
Have fun!

god day all you happy xperia play owner.
i will soon getting a new phone and i wont have any need for the xperia play as a actual phone. so this will be only a gaming device.
what im looking for is the perfect kernel and rom to give me as much quality gaming as possible.
currently on ICS++ and a ICS beta kernel from doom and am realy happy with it. only downside is emulators not working to a 100% (SNesoid. gameoid, n64oid and nesoid.) the issue is sound on = lagg and n64oid lags / reboots phone.
so what im looking for is a ICS rom (for the touch pads working) that gan give a good gaming experience.
I decided to go back to a stock 2.3.4 on my r800x. All custom roms and any that are ICS gave me lag in games, and low fps for some reason.

Jokawild isn't ICS.
I think that if you want everything to work like it should, you should go back to stock.
ICS seems to be more demanding overall over Gingerbread from what ive seen.
Xperia play is pretty dated Hardware wise so a really trimmed down version of Gingerbread might be the best option for gaming
Ive seen a few threads point to use either DiXperia, Jokawild, or TruAncestor
I'm using the Xperia S Style ROM and man games run faster than they did before. V6 Supercharged of course.

I can confirm this!
I just swithed to DiXperia (on of the many Xperia S roms) and i have seen a huge boost in performance with a full 200MB of Ram free while running.
The nice thing about DiXperia so far is that its completely barebones and you add what you want to it.
Definetely get on the Xperia S Roms
Agreed with above, im actually switching my phone over to an xperia S rom.
JokaWild is the best custom ROM that I know.. definetly great!
touch?
i can live with going back to GB since SE are not releasing official ICS. but is there anyway to have GB with touch pad support on emulators?
DarkForest Roms is a not bad options

I second this.
My poor Xperia Play is getting on a bit and I think it's time to put it into retirement. I'm hopefully getting an Nexus 4 soon, but I want to hang onto my Xperia Play as a pure gaming device. Mainly emulators and such, but also supporting the touch pads if possible (particularly FPSE).
I want to give it the best ROM for this purpose, with a good balance of speed, stability, and support. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Any Gingerbread rom with a custom kernel capable of overclocking will probably be fine for gaming. ICS and Jellybean are more resource-intensive, thus decreasing the in-game performance on such roms.

All my games have ran perfect since switching to NXT Light Edition.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into the ROMS suggested so far.
What's the situation with the touch pad controls in FPSE these days? Last I heard, a long while ago, they worked provided you were on an ICS ROM?
FPse touchpads work on GB/ICS now. Probably JB too
Just read my signature... No lags any more!!
I tested all roms for locked BL and that's the ONLY ONE that gave me the required performance!
Just thing what can you do with an unlocked BL!!
Cheers mate!!
Cola rom. Not sure if it works with 800i but if it does you'll love it.

Hi!
I'm bored with GB in Play. I'm looking for best ICS ROM, which is stable, without laggy and most looks like stock. Is there that ROM?

In my opinion Mark python's Xperia Play Z ROM is the best ICS ROM. v1.1.0 is the most stable at the moment, no lag, the interface looks like the stock Xperia Z, and is getting constant updates.

it's hard to tell what is the "best"
i've tried xperia z by markphyton, hybrid rom by krissdee and CM10.
xperia z is kind of overblown for me. it's fast enough for games etc but for everyday usage it couldn't stand the GB performance.
hybrid rom and CM10 has an overall very good performance and i was very satisfied with it.
my preference hybrid rom or CM10. but both don't look like stock. they look good
wanna still play games in the very best performance? stick to GB.
There is no such thing as a best Rom, each rom suites diffrent people in diffrent ways, best advice try some and see what is best that way.

I've been wondering. I've tested at least 30 xperia roms. From GB to ICS to Jellybean. And while the developers on this site have done a excellent, the majority of the custom roms, in my experience start to lag after a few weeks. Yes I know apps like Facebook will cause that but somehow I've only experienced none/little lag with the stock rom. So I can't help but wonder, in the long run are the Stock Roms provided by Sony the best? When it comes to the stability factor.
Yes ofcourse, thats how sony made it and they know best for our device.

Sorry to say man but none of JB ROMs can be stable. Even yours. You can only achieve smooth UI and partly smooth gaming (not in heavy games of course) but performance will never be same as GB. And the big pain in the ass is random rebooting when big workload. You're right that JB have better options but that's all.

I agree. A Question can kernels mess up the stability of a stock rom? Cause I've flashed a stock rom on a Lupus kernel mainly for overclocking and I think the stock kernel works better...
Is there a stock kernel available but only with overclocking added on it?

I dunno but LUPUS has no problems with stability. In what aspect stock kernel is better?
You can try DoomKernel. It's probably closer to stock than LUPUS and has overclocking ability of course.

I am pretty sure there LOTS of ROMS like that throughout the forum but I would recommend Close2Perfection and Gin2KitKat. Try them both if you can and see what is good for you. BTW, both of them are GB ROMs.

Well, I used the Gin2JellyBean Rom 2.5.2 (not a fan of the kitkat 3.0.0 look). It's very stable, has great battery life and it's also extremely powerful when it comes to gaming. Also, I haven't found something which is missing. Everything is working great and it's without a doubt, one(!) of the best Xperia Play GB roms you can find here.
But for now I'm using IceCreamSpeed V12. I like the design and it's an incredible good ICS rom, with full Touchpad Support (and if it doesn't work for specific games you can use the Touchpad activator, coming with the rom).
Alright so
I tested almost all "gaming" roms on gb for the xperia play for 1 year now..... And i have to say that NXT Light or Auroraplay is the best choice for you if you want to game
I am now on auroraplay and i have to say i can play everygame without overclocking and withotu lags
Btw: The GB Roms are much faster then the ICS roms so dont bother you use gingerbread for gaming
The best kernel for gingerbread is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849536
So use that with auroraplay and your xperia play will fly!!!!
Edit: No that roms hasnt any bugs and of corse you can use your touchpad
1. I have tried many ROMS too. but the SuperLite JB is one of my Fav's .. I used it as a daily for 1 year. Totally customizable because of AOKP settings.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2357756
and then I switched to MIUI.. ohhhhh.. MIUI is the real Beautiful Face of Android.. the usual android is soooooooooooooo Boring.. MIUI is a please to the eye.. Totally Customizable.. Loving it from within 5 mins of Installing it..
2. You have the Gaming Edition GB here .. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2201338
3. and also the newer.. JB edition here .. http://en.miui.com/thread-3182-1-1.html .. the JB one is amazing.. and newer.. a totally fresh change.. but still ANDROID.
