I remember when I had my first sprint phone, I think it was called the the samsung a900. knock off of the razr but better. A friend of mine had the 6700 at the time and I was very jealous.
I remember when the 6700's predecessor the mogul came out, and that became my first smartphone. I loved that thing. I had owned PDAs before, such as some of the first palms and a handspring IIRC but this was the first time I had winmo, it was awesome.
Ahhh my first phone was a Nokia. It had snake on it. By far most addicting game to ever hit a mobile platform. Oh and it had a calculator screen (or so it seemed) then I had a Nextel i530 all rubber same calculator screen then I upgraded to a Nextel i860 then again to the i930. It was a windows phone. It was terrible. But that was my first "smart phone" then I had a stint in blackberry and now 3 Andy's later I'm on a nexus s 4g

I have this exact same phone downstairs in a 'junk drawer' right now, from when I lived in Austin years ago. I'd love to find a charger for it and check out all my old contacts/numbers. I loved that little phone because of how slim it was: fit perfectly in a jeans-front-pocket.

stop it with these dumb a** posts!! this has nothing to do with our device!!!
Why can't we just have a compare, contrast, and opinions. The reason this type of thread happens over and over is because of all the trolling and flaming back and forth which leads to lock. Be better if it was just one nice clean thread with good input and actual comparisons.
I went with the Evo because of the kickstand, screen, and camera button. I'd be able to get more feedback once I get the phone.
By the way, I had a thread like this Monday and it was shut down because people were bickering. Wish people could lose their "e"-go and just converse normally.
I'm leaning towards the Evo as well, for better camera w/button, kickstand, nicer design, and superior screen. I'm just afraid it'll have quality control issues down the road whereas I have no such fear with the SIII.

While i want to believe htc has gotten better, i was one of the unfortunates that got an original EVO with the screen separation issue. The faceplate/screen was detaching from the phone and it took weeks for Sprint to accept it was an issue, it was separating right in front of one of their techs at a corporate store and they said repeatedly "sorry, dont see it listed as an issue", even though 2 seconds of google searching at that point showed it was widespread. After weeks of stress and a plethora of phone calls they finally accepted reality and said they would swap my phone....with no promise it would be a fixed "new batch/fixed" model. It was truly unbelievable the way it was handled, on HTC's and Sprint's part.
So while i loved the evo, once I FINALLY got a decent one, the heartache of the experience makes me say....Samsung all the way

A good example post of reasons of why you choose one over another by "ExtraCrispy"
SGS3
1. TW over Sense - can someone tell me exactly what is so great about Sense? The chief virtue of Sense 4 everyone seems to be raving about is how much less obtrusive it is (removing the corousel, quick settings etc). It has zero new features, except for the coverflow style task list. The new TouchWiz has a ton of features, some of them may end being gimmicks, but may be useful. And Sense is a heavy skin - even in the E4GLTE, you can sometimes see the dreaded 'reloading Sense' when you press home.
2. Better buttons - I don't need a dedicated task list button when long press on home does the job. I do mind my screen space being taken by the menu bar for tons of legacy apps and any app which is marked compatible with GB. GS3 made the right decision with a menu button
3. Root - S-OFF on new HTC phones is very hard, gone are the days of simple rooting like with the Evo 4G. HTC's dev unlock is crap. Galaxy phones are much simpler to root. And cutom roms/kernels are a big part of Android for me.
4. Hardware differences are basically irrelevant. In the US both will have the S4, the screens are close enough and both have microSD support. There are endless debates about plastic vs aluminum, build quality, looks and so on which are all down to subjective opinion.
5. Audio/Video - The Evo will probably do better in low light due to the better aperture (f/2.0 vs 2.6) but the picture quality is probably same on both (GS3 has a newer sensor, Evo uses th eone from the GS2), they both have the same software features (Evp uses a separate ISP, but GS3 does the same stuff in software), and video recording is definitely better on the GS3 (full bitrate HD video). GS3 also has the better DAC, though most likely US versions won't have the Wolfson.
6. GS3 comes with 50GB vs 25GB Dropbox.
I say skip both and get galaxy nexus for now if not wait for galaxy note im getting galaxy nexus first for the lte and then galaxy note buying both retail price

Wow, I am kinda thinking the same. Having 2 lines (one with a Nexus series, one with a Galaxy series) is a lot of fun. Having the ET4G and S3 would be nice but I just don't know. If a phone comes along that is truly mind blowing I would buy it off contract. I still don't know what the hell I am going to do with my June 1 upgrade. I am going to be researching like crazy the next few weeks though
Im leaning more towards the EVO at the moment as well.
so are all the NOTE II's going to be "physically" the same externally like the S3's are?
this was an awesome move by samsung since it means more accessory support !!
just wondering if its the same for the Note II

Not quite the same dude's..
On the front view, you can see that the screen is slightly larger than S3.
The Home Button also different with S3 which the S3 Home Button is curvy and looks like wedges but not with Note 2 where the Home Button is more to rectangular shape.

On the rear view, you can see that the camera is side by side with flash like the old Note where the speaker is down below near the S-Pen.
The Note 2 is more similar to the previous Note but I think in terms of physical compare to S3, you can differentiate it by just looking at the Home Button from the front view while the difference from the rear view is of course by the camera where S3 camera is side by side with the speaker and flash but not with Note 2 where only the flash side by side with the camera.
Hope this help. :silly:
ok I apologize I must not have been clear enough
any accessory made for a sprint S3 will fit a verizon S3 will fit a tmobile S3 will fit an orange S3 will fit a german S3 a russian S3 a japanese S3
NOW if I get a Sprint Note II and a Verizon Note II and a T-Mobile Note II and an International Note II
WILL THEY BE PHYSICALLY the same to each other? ie all accessories will work among them (cases etc..)
NOT S3 to Note II
but ONE carriers Note II to another Carriers Note II
ie S2 each one was different. but S3 they all the same
same with Note II ?

Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
yep I kind of got that. tmobile att and international will be GSM VZ/cr/met/sprint/boost will be CDMA
that is "INTERNAL"
if you buy an otter box for the internation S3 it will fit "ANY OTHER" S3 in the world
if I buy an otter box for a sprint note II will it fit ANY OTHER note II in the world?

i smiled after feeling the frustration you had after all the comments misunderstood you
to answer your question, yes they are all the same (except this disgusting verizon logo on the home button on its version)
so lets enjoy the amazing and over whelming accessories support,NOT!
it seems like all accessories makers are in deep sleep everyone was like just wait few days before the american release you will find all kind of stuff for the note 2
but so far,nothing,nada,zip,zilch,zero,nix,rein!
Sorry that was over the top am just a bit pissed for the lack of accessories >_<
hehe
well its not looking TOO bad for such a new device. there are already some variety of cases including a stitch case which will be my first order if I get a Note II
so I am hopeful. hopefully the bamboo cases will come along shortly. I don't expect the note II to get the support the S3 gets but it should get MORE Since they are all the same
trying finding neat stuff for the S2 from sprint. it was the Best S2 (larger screen) but all the "cool" stuff was made for the international style S2
What do you guys think overall?
I had a One X. Couldn't wait to get a Samsung device. My reasons are:
No locked boot loader
Much larger community on XDA
MicroSD slot
Samsung's "cheap" plastic is far more durable than people give them credit for
I like Android updates (faster)
LED notification light that can be seen when not staring directly at the device
Multitasking
TouchWiz >>> Sense (whole other rant could be inserted here)
I actually want some of the kitschy TouchWiz features like smart stay, pop up play, codec support up the wazoo, and S Beam now that I am the only one in my extended family without a S III
These reasons geared me to the Note II vs the GS III
The silly-huge battery
5.5" screen isn't that much of an adjustment, but nice for pictures and videos
Multi-view (two apps simultaneously), but rumor has it GS III will get this on JB
S Pen
AT&T price matched $199, so price isn't too different
It boils mostly down to a bunch of little personal preferences. I've used plenty of devices by different brands, and Samsung keeps reeling me in. This could change in the future, but for right now, the Note II is the only device I want.

i had to try out the X+ so i bought it (full price) to compare against my SGS3 & GN2. (READ: mitigate my disappointment of not getting a Nexus 4 at launch). IMO, the SGS3 and GN2 features/benefits (replaceable battery, battery life, call quality, in-call volume, etc.) were more appealing to me. the X+ is sexy as hell (all black looks friggin hot), has the HTC build quality and a lovely screen. it's fast, fluid and feels good in the hand. but...
battery life did not meet my expectations.
call quality was not good (to my ears) - there was a noticeable hiss
call volume was much lower compared to the SGS3 and GN2
i could easily manage with #1 but not in conjunction with #2 and/or #3. that's too much of a compromise for me. i'm on the phone 2-4 hours a day and call quality and volume (especially the Samsung volume boost feature) is important and better on the Samsungs.
as always, YMMV; this is my subjective view on the device.

Lack of Micro SD is not that big an issue since the X+ has 64GB internal storage, but still no match for the Note 2 though. N2 FTW

I was in the same boat when deciding which quad core phone to pick up.
First I was set on the one x plus... but no removable storage is kind of a setback. That's one of the better things about android devices is that option. Then I read about the Optimus G. Reviews came back negative and reading about LG phones turned me off.
The note 2 sold me on these things:
1. At&t left it alone. All they did was add LTE chip.
2. Samsung devices rock. Loved my GS2. Blackjack before that was awesome (for the time).
3. Battery life. Not having to worry about it dieing before a full days use is nice.
Now yes the size is something to get used to... but once you do you won't go back lol.
Just my 2 cents.
On a side note if the GS3 was a quad core phone on AT&T like international version I would have grabbed it.

got mine at the beginning of the month.
haven't looked back, absolutely LOVE this phone. everything about it is perfect for me, i use the spen almost every single time i use the phone and multi view is awesome (can't beat texting while watching netflix)
if you have to pay full price, then maybe check around just to be safe and make sure that this will be the phone for you, but i doubt you'll regret your decision if you do take the dive.
Its funny I visit all different device treads and I never hear anyone switching from note2 to n4,, its always n4 to n2 lol...this phone is top shelf.. had mine from november 2 ,,, nice ride

I'm coming from a note and I'm having a hard time getting past the physical home button. Do you get used to it?

The battery on this phone is a beast. I watch movies and browsing net at the same time (with %60 screen brightness). I do this for a good 4-5 hrs. Play Myth Defense for an hour or so.
Guess what? Battery drops %20-30 only. This is pretty amazing.
Compare to my Note 1 this device is much more perfected. You wont regret it.
I sold a brand new Galaxy S3 and used the money to upgrade to the Note 2. Best decision I've made and the absolute best smartphone I've owned. You won't be disappointed.
I have the international unlocked S3, international unlocked One X, Galaxy Nexus, AT&T Optimus G, and a few others... got the Note 2 as my second line and it smokes them all. I have paid full retail for a couple of devices. The Note 2 is one that's worth it!!

I've owned a few devices -- an iPhone 3G (several years ago), an HTC Raider (defective, replaced with an HTC EVO 3D), a Samsung Galaxy S II LTE (Skyrocket), a Galaxy S III, and now the Galaxy Note II.
The Note II is by far, without a doubt in my mind, the best device I've ever owned. The user experience and battery life on the HTC's were dreadful (and I'll never buy another HTC product again). The S II LTE was a great phone that I managed to go almost two months without restarting, and the S III was a great device as well.
However, with that being said I tend to use my phone quite a bit (increasingly more than I even use my computer now I find) -- whether it be streaming audio when I'm walking or commuting somewhere, browsing the Internet, managing e-mail and calendar appointments, texting & making phone calls, the list goes on. I was hard pressed to get a days worth out of a single charge before I'd have to run somewhere and plug my phone in, but with the Note II, I can easily manage a day and a half or even two days and not have to really worry.
I've also played with the original Galaxy Note, which offered a decent experience but found that the S Pen was uncomfortable to hold and that outside of S Memo and a few apps on the Play Store there wasn't that much to differentiate it from the Galaxy S II. While many may think that the Galaxy Note II is just a blown up S III, it's not -- there's a lot more functionality baked into the software to take advantage of the S Pen (stuff like Air View, Quick Command, etc.) And you can hold the pen with a lot more comfort and use it accurately.
I've never been happier or more satisfied with a device than I have been with my Note II. Buy one, you won't regret it.

Battery life on this phone is insane. Normally get anywhere from 6-8 hours of screen on time. One time I got 10 hours of screen on time
Got it yesterday.
Sitting at 71% with 1hr, 50mins screen time. My other phone would be around 10% battery left after that screen time.
Amazing.
The Note 2 is PEERLESS!

I used a lot of phones and this phone is the best. Used a one x, xperia s, iPhone 5, galaxy nexus, and galaxy s3 and note 2 smokes them all. My biggest issue with all previous Android phones was battery life. Other then iPhone 5 all other phones had crap for battery until I got the note 2. This phone is the best phone I had so far.
