It doesn't have anything to do with rebooting, I just checked it, it's been on since yesterday and I rebooted this morning and it's still on.
I'll be going through the day, and then I'll go to scan something and I'll find out the hard way it's turned off. It's a pain to have to go into settings and turn it back on.
Looks like S-Beam might be turning itself off, too. I don't ever use that but it's off right now and I know I had it enabled at one point.

I know it turns itself off on my S 3 after there has been no activity for a while and it may also on the Note 2.
That's really frustrating, the thing I like about nfc is it's quick and easy. Is there any way to tell it to knock that off?

This is something I'm seeing too. It's annoying but easy enough to turn back on.
I'll look into tasker or something like that. If anyone finds a better way to keep this from happening, I'd love to hear it!

Mine does same, randomly turns off NFC & S-Beam.

Did anyone find anything?! Solutions, ideas?! Hacks?! Nothing since mid-November?!? What the hell?!??
I've had the problem on the official TMO rom also. I've solved my problem by flashing the stock 7105 4.1.2 image on top (which also comes with some additional features such as NFC notification toggle). I used the stock image created by teshxx.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072453
Seriously? There is no way to fix this annoyance outside of flashing to a specific rom image?

My wife has a Galaxy S3 and she DOES NOT seem to experience this annoyance. I have the Galaxy Note 2 and I am CONSTANTLY having to turn my S-Beam and NFC back on.
Has anyone figured out what exactly causes the auto-off of these features? My random guess, using the test case of my phone and my wife's, is that it has to do with turning your wifi on and off. I am constantly turning my wifi on and/or off depending if I'm in a known wifi area. My wife never touches the wifi setting, just always leaves it on.
Anyway, hope to hear from someone soon with a solution to this annoying little glitch in the use-case of these great features.

NFC turning off randomly...
Having the same issue as well, using the stock ROM, rooted, I'd rather not have to flash another rom to my device, as everything else appears to be working just fine for me.
At any rate, I home someone can find some kind of info here...

First of all, a battery pull fixes the issue
What i am trying to figure out if what causes the bug and whether other people are having the same issue
As you can see from both images, there is no cell signal but WIFI is on but somehow the phone thinks airplane mode has been turned on
This is the 3rd time is past few days and i have missed loads of calls as a result.
From what i can see from my apps, there is nothing that should be causing the issue.
Also, there doesn't seem to a root cause, It has happened while i was charging the phone and while the phone had been on constant use
Any ideas?

I'm usually in low signal areas and when I move into an area where I know there is signal, it sometimes takes the device 30-60 seconds to recognize there is a signal.
This makes me think the radio polling interval is set fairly slow, perhaps in an attempt to save battery life.
I've used the airplane mode to toggle the radio and "wake it up" quicker than waiting the 60 seconds for the radio/phone to recognize the signal.
By any chance, are you in or around a low signal area when this occurs? I wonder if our two experiences might be related.
Just a thought. Have you flashed a different radio at all? Maybe its crashing?
Not that this helps you, but the one thing I noticed from your pics is they spelled "aeroplane mode" wrong... lol
Why is your Android Build #?
I had this happen once before, but it was before I upgraded.. so not sure if that is related or was just a coincidence that it has worked fine the times I used it after updating.

This happens on my Galaxy Nexus too. I can leave the phone somewhere with a very good 3G signal and come back to find no signal and that I'm unable to toggle the radio on or off. Restarting fixes the problem.

I have had a similar issue, except that I am able to enable connection again by selecting to turn airplane mode off. I sometimes have to do this 2 times, but the phone does not freeze during this process. I have not been able to determine a cause as it happens in use and idle. This happened using stock 2.3.4 Samsung ROM (with being rooted) and with a recent flash to VillainROM 2.5. Through that I would assume it is deeply embedded bug that is being carried over with ROM's or, perhaps more likely, one of the apps I got is causing this.

well, my nexus experience just keeps getting weirder. the phone just restarted itself and hasn't gone past the google logo. it restarts (hear it vibrate) at that point and wont go past that screen. no idea what could have caused it as phone was right next to me and i wasn't using it
past the point of caring to be honest. i will try a factory reset when i get home tonight
I haven't had this issue since I flashed a new build of the stock rom, here:
http://android.modaco.com/topic/349407-odin-firmware-i9250xwkk9-itl41f-newest-build/
I've been using it for the past 8 hours and have had a consistent 4-5 bars. It's supposed to be a later build of the ITL41F firmware.
Unforturnately, it's got compatibility issues with most of the mods. If you flash mods on top of this, you'll lose the the status bar and the 3 buttons.
Will continue to monitor and update.
I can confirm that the problem happens to me on a completely stock phone - no apps installed (just the ones included with the system), no root, no tampering whatsoever. It has to be a Android 4.0 and/or SGN problem.
Here another victim of the sudden loss of signal. Toggling airplane mode on and off does solve the problem, but what worries me is that I am incommunicado in the period just prior to the moment I discover that the signal is lost.

I have this issue as well. Toggling airplane mode does not work for me.

I also recently encountered this issue. My phone was working fine while rooted and bootloader unlocked until today. Usually when I wake up, I check my email and I'm usually on 3G because I don't get 4G at home. Gmail had not refreshed, couldn't get on browser, had to reboot. I left my phone alone for about two hours or so, turned it on to check email and again, no signal in a place I typically get 4G. Had to reboot again to get signal. It doesn't look like my phone is going into airplane mode like some people are reporting as I don't see an airplane icon or notification.
I have not tried toggling airplane mode yet to get signal back. My phone does not run custom roms or themes, only has some root apps. I have the Verizon version.

its real nice to finally have some ICS goodness on my phone, but i have found some issues.
my Motorola Roadster 2 bluetooth speakerphone does not work well with this version of ICS. will not let me use the call/text button.
i am finding some apps not working correctly, i.e. Pushover - the notifications do not make a sound. Not sure if that is an app issue, or an ICS issue.
*edit* ok so it seems that i am not getting any notification sounds. sms, voicemail, etc...
also the volume in general does not seem as loud as the 2.3.6 firmware was.
anyone else find any issues?
*UPDATE* after wiping within cwmr most of my issues were no longer present. the only problem i had still was that notification sounds didnt work after a couple hours. i dont know the cause, but i used audio manager widget and set the profile to loud, and restarted phone. havent had them go out since.

atleast it is not me.
i am going to reflash my phone to see if it may be an issue with not clearing out the phones memory and storage first...
My wifi didn't work for a while. It would see my access point but wouldn't connect. Reset the router and everything went back to normal. GPS works, Stereo BT/OBEX works, 4G works, camera works. Those were my big items, as I'm sure they are most people's.
My only issues are that I can't switch to 2g (At&t rom....) and how friggin Touch-wizzy everything is. I was expecting them to embrace the whole holo thing a lot more, but all the buttons feel like they belong in GB, same with the notification menu and the settings icons.
EDIT: I am on rogers, in case any rogers people see this so they know that everything works on our network
i wiped via cwmr and reflashed the ics rom. notifications work again. have not rooted yet, wondering if that may have been an issue with it...
Changing the lcd DPI causes the rom to corrupt i guess, since when i do it, after the reboot, i get to the samsung "logo" and then black screen, and it feels like the device has shut down. The only app that would say "success" when i change the value is Lcd Density Modder.
- i had the notification sound bug, but then i changed the notification sounds to my likings, and then i used Audio Manager widget to set the volume loud, no problems ever since.
ok rooted and all is fine. maybe i just had a bad flash. my bluetooth speakerphone still doesnt work, but that is an issue that i will have to research
For me, i had the only issue with ICS (excluding the known thing with the keyboard not flashing) - timezones from 2011 year with wrong summer times.
Luckyly fixed it with timezone fixer from google play.
Tethering doesn't work, seems to be broken and results in a blackscreen.. Both Usb and Wifi Hotspot give this issue.. Anyone else getting this
One weird thing my phone does is when it's been asleep for a while, the lockscreen clock will fall behind and when I wake it up, it'll catch up a couple dozen minutes at a time.

I've rogers version but unlocked and working with a local carrier. Wifi is not a problem at all, i'm getting the same speed and used wifi continuously for over 2 hrs to download all my apps back after the update.
When typing with the keyboard, pressing the alt. Key once makes it select all the special characters. I liked the older one where if you press it once, it operates just once when selecting the special character, and pressing it twice makes it select more than one. Not that big of an issue but to some people it may be.
Also, the brightness thing. When I turn off the screen, and turn it on again, it flashes from the highest brightness to the current.

On AT&T here, and having wifi issues as well... Once the phone drops wifi at idle, it doesn't want to pick it back up unless I turn wifi off and back on again. Setting the wifi to never sleep has been my only workaround.
Also having some issues with the button backlights. If I don't touch the phone long enough for the button backlight to turn off, touching the buttons won't turn the light back on. Touching the screen turns the backlight on again, but it's slightly annoying.
I haven't noticed any wifi issues and I use my Glide exclusively as a wifi device. I'm copying my backup of Inception v2 back right now though because the battery drain on the ICS ROM is definitely an issue. Losing like 10% an hour with my phone just sitting there with the screen off.

Have you ever took note of your battery life with a custom ROM or kernel? When I picked up my Glide it had a stock ROM but I only had it for an hour before I put a custom on it. I didn't mess with the stock one at all so I can't compare to stock 2.3.5/6. But with Inception v2/ardatdat, it was definitely better.
I was going to restore my backup but copying it back to my phone made me realize how painful it is to copy backups with CWMR 6 compared to 5. That new blobs folder makes so many files that it took 3 hours to copy 3 of my backups over USB. Ouch.
But since last night, the battery life seems to be behaving better. Its been sitting here and not just dying. I'm wondering if it could be the battery stats file. Maybe I'll try wiping it. I'm sure once we get a lower voltage kernel and I can underclock with profiles for the screen-off and stuff, it'll be fine again.
Unrelated but has anyone taken a screenshot with the ROM yet? ICS is supposed to have it built in, power button + volume down at the same time for a few seconds from what I read, but didn't seem to work.
Edit: Its home + power button at the same time.

well just posting to say iI have the same problem, haven't found a solution yet. Basically makes using NFC tags worthless because you have to turn it on every time you want to use it.
I've been experience some rather hard locks on m'phone. I'd wake up, expecting the alarm to go off and noticed that the phone's screen is black and the buttons on the bottom are lit and unresponsive. I'm able to power down the phone and bring it back online after a quick reboot but it doesn't really answer the questions... What's going on with it? and How do I check to see what crashed it?
Are there any programs/apps out there to see what's crashing the phone... I tried some log readers however, they seem to only read what's going on in real time or the logs that are there during that boot, not past logs.
Any information would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!

Try flashing an alternative kernel and see if that resolves the issue. The reason that happens is that if the governors/schedulers are not working properly, the phone will tend to stay on it's lowest voltage when not in use which causes the phone to not be responsive.

I could definitely give that a try and see if the group I got this one from, has pushed out a 10.1 rom yet.
1) When I plug it into a USB, the screen turns on.
2) When I unplug it from a USB, the screen turns on.
3) When the 15% and 5% battery warning occurs, the screen turns on.
4) I would give $50 for a solution that records every call automatically whether it occurs over Bluetooth, speaker, or just the regular phone.
5) I use GPS with navitagion. I turn off GPS. I go about my business. I turn GPS on again later, and it can't find a lock. I check using a GPS tool. No satellites. I reset the device, and the satellites come back and I get a lock. This is really annoying.

Frosty rom is already closed. You need to update baseband too.
For no 1 and 2 ) its inbuilt feature of s3. You cant disable it; I have use all cm aokp and aosp roms and this is on on every roms.
3) you can disable those notification by editing somthing ; check mods on android development section.
4) you cant record sound using bluetooth ; enabling record breaks bluetooth.
5) I guess our s3 has native gps problem. You cant not lock in quick like other phone.

Frosty is old.
1. and 2.) Problems 1 and 2 are easily disabled inside the framework-res.apk on 4.2 and up. Only problem 2 is solved on 4.1.1 with the framework-res.apk mod.
3.) On CM10.1 i do not get my screen woken when the low battery occurs. Just a notification sound.
4.) This is partly kernel related and security issues come about with things like this. There are apps that do it but some don't work, because of the security issues.
5.) Download Faster GPS from the android market. My S3 locks within seconds of acquiring location.
Many of your "issues" are not pertaining to the device itself, more so the choice of your ROM and kernel combinations.

4.) This is partly kernel related and security issues come about with things like this. There are apps that do it but some don't work, because of the security issues.

I think this is something more serious. When it works, it locks in RIGHT AWAY. But when it doesn't, it never does. But then when I reboot the machine, it locks in right away. To explain it a little clearer:
1. Time to drive somewhere. Turn on GPS, open nav. Bang. Locked right away, drive to destination.
2. Arrive at destination. Turn nav off, turn GPS off. Go inside, attend party, have a good time.
3. Get back in car. Turn on GPS, open NAV. Does not lock. Wait 10 minutes. Still no lock.
4. Consider throwing phone out the window and buying an atlas.
5. Reboot GS3. Turn on GPS. Open NAV. Works immediately, like Step 1.

Many of your "issues" are not pertaining to the device itself, more so the choice of your ROM and kernel combinations.

No doubt. You recommend CM?
I use to have that on my HTC vision but last time I looked, it wasn't ready for prime time on the GS3.
I have Nexus 4 and liquid smooth rom has options for 1 and 2 in settings, check if GS3 version has it

Why turn off GPS. It only comes on and uses power when an app calls for it.

That's not the point, we should be able to turn it on and off as we please and it should work.
I've been having many GPS problems on this device as well, you're not alone.
I've heard reverting with Odin fixes GPS but I haven't tried it yet because I'm lazy.

Well then the problem seens to me that turningbitboff and on causes something to fail. Maybe maps cache. I have always left gps on from the verybfirst android phone ive had and never had problems with battery. It seems more time consumi ng to turn it off and then back on.

Maybe turning it on and off is placebo but it's just force of habit to me, I feel dirty when I leave it on and it's not in use lol.

Not sure about via the speaker, but automatic call recording through Bluetooth & handset is definitely possible... Clear as a bell... And costs considerably less than 50 bills.
Edit: yep! Perfect through speaker too!

Hyperdrive ROM pretty much does all that from the instant you restart the phone after the first flash.
I'm. Running the latest pac man 4.2.2 and it has options to disable the light turning on whenplugging the phone up

I always keep my gps on all the time doesn't drain my battery at all unless I use it a lot and its locks on for me to find my way home As for the screen lighting up just dont look at it will turn off eventually
