I have noticed that while my note 2 is charging then the brightness of the Red LED keeps changing from low to high at very irregular and unexplained intervals. When I spoke to Samsung Customer Service in Hongkong then they also said that it shouldnt happen and I need to brign the handset to the service centre.
Has anybody else experienced similar situation ?
I have noticed it sometimes happens when I am changing the light conditions in the room by switching off and on the room light but that also not always.
Please help as this is very new phone to me .
It has been said that the brightness of the LED changes according to the ambient light source. If you're in a bright room, the LED will be bright and in a dark room LED will be dim.
And yes, mine acts the same way as yours.

Thanks for your reply. Where has it been mentioned ? Why are Samsung engineers telling me that it's not a normal behaviour ?
Mine does the same thing. Was wondering myself if it is designed to do this or an 'issue'...
Same here..
Yes this is the new Jellybean 4.1 feature
Yes!!
It happens with my Galaxy S3 as well after updating to latest Jellybean 4.1, Actually it is Jellybean feature. nothing wrong with your charger or your device. I have checked practically. (Design for humans, Inspired by nature concept.)
Same here as well, nothing worry about I guess
Different model as it happened to my S3 but I guess it's kinda related, the red LED was going from bright to dim when charging. Plus it was in a dark room, so I don't think it's got anything to do with the ambient sensor or anything. Happened for about 2-3 days and then it died. Tried to switched it on, took out the battery and put it back in again, no luck. Unfortunately I never got to know what was the problem as I got pick-pocketed while on holiday and never got to sent it in to a Samsung Service Center :crying:
Went out and bought a new Note 2 though, so silver lining and all that...
Same here
Same here...I can almost say that when led is brighter it charges faster

Hi all,
The title is pretty much self-explanatory. In short, I found that the screen of my Galaxy Nexus tends to dim when it goes idle, then a few seconds before it sleeps, it will brighten and go back to the normal brightness (and then it turns off and goes to sleep). Not that it's too big an issue, but I'm just wondering if anyone else's noticing the same thing with their units?
Regards,
Tin
I've had it happen sometimes but its not consistently happening imo its just another quirky ics bug that will get ironed out in future updates

I realized that if I turn off auto-brightness the issue goes away. Maybe something to do with the light sensor?
All 3 of mine did this. Makes me think i have a message coming through or something..
I`m guessing its a bug..
Yes same problem.
I always think I have a new message or something so I put the screen on...
I've seen it happen only with some fluorescent lighting.
Same issue here. I've had it happen both on the charger and off the charger. Running the ITL41D build on Tmo ...
I don't yet have a Gnex but I have observed this behavior on all 3 of my Honeycomb tablets. It must be something they changed in Honeycomb and it got inherited by ICS.
Hey Guys,
got my new Note II yesterday, but already having 2 problems.
The biggest is the light sensor; the Screen keeps adjusting it's Brightness like hell.
Read out the Sensor data, which is going from 0 to 13 lux when I cover the Sensor with my hand.
Do you experience the same?
Also my USB wire plug is very loose. Also normal?
try turning off auto brightness...
and yes USB wire IS a bit loose

Well, just bought it brand new, I think this shouldn't be on a 600€ device
Does your Light Sensor Value also jump around in same light conditions?
Low-Light mine goes from 0-28, normal it goes from 400~ to 80.000 sometimes, which results in frequent readjustment in brightness.
Thats very irritating for me, cause I use it everytime
Would be nice if someone could give me his values/behavior of the sensor with AndroSensor or so.
Will return this device then

I just got my GT-N7100 and am having the same problems. Very irritating. Need this to work for better battery life. Tried a program from Play Store called Lux, but it works the same, maybe a little better. But Lux is showing the sensor readings varying all the time even when the ambient light hasn't changed at all, thus the brightness fluctuations. I am rooted, but on Stock ROM. Wonder if a custom ROM would fix it, or if it's a defective sensor.
Anyone else experiencing this?

The default auto-brightness should not be updating so fast that it flickers You might want to get it checked out. Or if you use a 3rd party app, reduce the time interval of the update.
And do note, there is a difference say, with your back towards the sun, you face the phone towards you, or towards the floor. So when you are on the move, expect values to change.
Stock auto brightness is woeful in my opinion. It was the same one my Gnex so I have used Luxbon both with good results. Takes a bit of tweaking but brilliant when set up.

I'm not an expert at light sensors, but look at this:

I'm moving phone, holding camera still.
It looks like light sensor problem on galaxy note 2.
Can you check yours GN2?
Use code *#0*# and enter sensor test.

I'm not in the brightest room but I have 2 60W light bulbs above me and my sensor has 0 when the phone is towards me and 20 lux when it is towards the roof. And yes it's stable with the values.
Hi everybody... .Today while I was changing my note 2 suddenly I saw that red charging indicator light was brighter then before... after few seconds it returned tu normal brightness level. .. I Checked charging plug but it was ok. Is it normal or something wrong with my phone ?
SORRY for my english.. and thanks
Probably ok I notice that sometimes sa well and some notifications such as whatsapp uses rather bright blue
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
This is perfectly normal.
Try doing this, place ur finger on the sensors beside ur earpiece and after a while you'll see it go dim and vice versa.
This is similar how your phone screen brightness works when it is in "auto brightness"
So when you place ur finger on the sensor ur phone assumes ur in a dark room and so dims the light (so that the light isn't too bright) and when u take out ur finger ur phone assume the room is bright and the light becomes brighter so it is possible for you to see the light in bright conditions

The screen on my note 3 suddenly showed a green hue color. I took some screen shots to show but after I pressed the power button(standby) to turn screen off then back on again the green hue disappeared?
So thinking the pictures would still prove the issue, no I was wrong the screen captures I took with the green hue are also fine . Not sure whats going on...Perhaps it is hardware related hence why it does not show in the captures. Basically all the blacks had a green hue to them / in fact were green .
Today is the 14th day for me to return or exchange the device at t mobile. Please advise. I did install some dark wallpaper apps but deleted them yesterday, was using normal stock wallpapers. I am not rooted.
Do you think it is hardware related? I believe if it was software related then the screen captures ( which I took when screen went green) would also show the green hue.
Had the same problem here but mine had a pink hue.Try to reset the colors. Just type *#0*# on your phone dialer and use the 3 colors for 5 minutes each, it will reset the pixels.

It went away when I pressed it on standby and back again.
What gets me concerned is that when I took a screen shot when it was green it didn't show on the picture after it remedied itself.

So have the problem gotten worse since then?
I have seen it now and then. Often happened when I was on the phone and closed and opened the lid.
Happened now that I opened the lid after attaching it to the charger.
Should I expect it to get worse, and therefore return it for a new one or will it be a rare bug now and then?
Reading mode enabled?

Hi,
I bought mine in October 4th 2013, has occurred twice so far. Taking screen shots does not show it. I am thinking it is a software glitch.
Reading mode was not enabled. All dark areas of screen goes green.

If you are doing a screen shot, it is reading the state from the device and saving it. So later if you look at that screen shot and it looks okay it most likely is not software. If you look at the screen shot while the unit is displaying the green look and it looks right, then you most likely have a software issue.
Sounds like a hardware issue or perhaps some weird mode being set by software. I still think it is hardware though.

I perhaps hoped that you had answered my question when I first posted as this occurrence first happened on the 14th day of my purchase, so I had a choice to return to T Mobile store for swap out. Either way, only occurred twice so far, so I am not worrying too much about it. Shelf life for phone for me is approx 12 months max, so all is good thus far. Pressing the standby button afaik cleared it up at the times it occured.
I too have had this happen twice now and months in between. Happened after mj5 update could that be a cause

Doubt it, as mine is stock N900T that has no updates as of yet.
The first time I rebooted and it went away. The second time it was only like that for a few seconds and cleared up on its own. I'm on the at&t version

Mines does this once every few days apart, if I just turn off the screen and turn it back on it goes away. I also took screen shoots but they show fine in the gallery. I only seen it once on my wife's note.
I have exactly the same problem, the green hue appear, and turning off the screen or dial *#0*# and select one of the color to test the screen can clear that away. it happens once per one or two weeks for me. I'm worried that may be a hardware issues and that is a symptom before the device fail. Does any of you have this happened then your phone became not working ?
btw, It's seems happens after I changed to a magnetic flip case ,not sure if that's related, will try not using that case and see if that will gone away. Are you guys having this problem also using a case with magnetic flip ?
Hello guys,
Well it's all in the title... my AOD turns green, and also when I charge my phone.
I just made a clean wipe and flashed a boot image and clean os 4 V2.1. This is the only issue everything else works well.
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance !
Is that the only thing effected?
If so I wouldn't worry about it, green is more visible to the human eye anyway.
If no one else has it, you could reflash to the same version, a minor firmware corruption.
If it persists after the reflash it may indicate a hardware failure. One or two of the millions of semiconductors may have failed.
If that's all that's effected... I wouldn't sweat it.
If it progresses to new issues then I would be concerned... or if you just hate green

Ahahah thank you for your answer I tried reflashing yes and everything else works fine. But yeah il bothers me because the whole screen turns green/Brown snow (somewhat like old TVs but green and Brown instead of Black and White) and AOD is not usable at all. I just deactivated it for now and like you told me, i didnt sweat it.

^Sorry to hear this!^
I see you're point. If under warranty have it serviced. The new variable refresh rate displays are failing at a higher rate than they should across the board. Maybe the display or the mobo... if you send it to Samsung, take detailed photos the day you box it up. Double box it securely and insure the box.
I don't trust Samsung and neither should you! Too many stories out there to be just a coincidence. Strikingly you never hear these kind of stories about Canon factory service for cameras...

Maybe I'm too late....I realized this issue a few days ago on my Note 20 Ultra. It received OneUI 5.1 recently and it didn't occur immediately, at least I didn't notice it. What I found out is you must turn OFF "auto brightness" in AOD settings and put it manually on the highest level or one below... then it won't go green(ish). And that part when charging, happens also when the AOD is OFF or when ON and auto brightness ON and it's dark. So basically, the lower brightness levels are the problem.
For now it's just the AOD, but I had some experiences with other Samsung and OnePlus phones generally when you are low in brightness the screen goes green or partial green...so for now it's just AOD on this one and it's still usable when you do like I said above. Cheers
