Hello, i want to have WiFi turn off when i press the power button on my One V and have the phone got o sleep but when i click the "never" option in wifi>advanced options>Keep WiFi on during sleep>never it doesn't turn off the wifi when the phone's in sleep mode. I can tell because when i press the power button and my lockscreen comes up it still shows the wifi bars. Why is this, and what mistake am i making? How can i get this to properly turn off wifi when my screen's off (sleep).
Is there a time limit as to when it'll shut off? Like does it have to be be screen-off for a certain time interval for this to shut off wifi?
Which rom are you on ??
Lol dude when u switch it back on Obvio it will turn on the wifi
The statement speaks for it self
Wifi is of only during sleep

but no way wifi instantaneously turns on that fast. that's what i'm saying. when i have it off for about 3-4 minutes then i turn the screen back on i can see the icon slowly searching then connecting to my home internet. So does that mean that it has to be off for a certain time for the wifi to shut off?
Right but it will appear that it is turning on.... not on as it was when the screen was on ...sorry for the confusion

So basically, all i'm asking is, how long does it take to turn off wifi. Like, how long under sleep mode? Cause if i turn my phone on and off in a matter of seconds then it doesn't turn it off. Which i guess is good. So i guess there is a certain time interval involved in this.
Why do you even care ?? If you said it worked in 4 min that means its happening from 1 min or higher ....but the importance that its happening under 4 mins

Does it drain alot of battery if the edge isnt turned off?
Any radio process (WiFi, Bluetooth, Edge/GPRS) will drain battery life. If you are not using it or downloading something, you should have it off. At least that's what I do.
hey
But how do you turn it off? it's on everytime i turn on the phone, and it'll not only drain the battery but it looks like it's connected and wears my account
Tap the power button key...go to connection manager.....hit the 5 key to turn off data
Keep in mind that also turn off direct push!

Yes yes! This is also very important....otherwise plan on keeping your charger nearby come evening time lol
how do I setup the End key to disconnect the connection to EDGE ?
i've got the E showing up also... I don't have data at all... it won't let me turn it on or off.. also, how do i turn off direct push?
A friend of mine told me that iPhone has something like sleep mode where it almost turns off the phone to increase battery life. Does desire/android have this functionality too? If no, has someone tried to insert the sleep mode into the kernel? Are there any H/W limitations?
I guess the Airplane mode on the desire is similar like the one you're talking about on the iPhone. Don't know exactly, never had an iPhone.
If you click the little black button atop of your device it'll go into "sleep mode"
It uses less resources and spare the battery.. true story ;D
I have a desire. What do you mean? Was that a joke?
I think he wasnt joking.
When you lock your phone by pressing the top button, the arm cpu actually clocks down to (erm...?! somethin lower then 1ghz). This is the Sleep mode you might ment.
You can "check" this for example if you transfer a file over wlan to your phone with swiftftp (a App, that enables a FTP Server on your Phone) an look at your transfer rates. When your Phone is active the rate is very high, but when you lock it, it drops. That is due to the downclocked snapdragon.
To addition: There are some Mods/Kernels out there that clocks the cpu even lower than HTC designed it(or does Arm designed the clock settings?)
Anyway, i hope i could help und you can understand me (i am german )

Welcome to the forum,
no this is not sleep mode. On lock it goes down to 245Mhz, but it doesn't go sleep. On sleep mode it would take weeks to empty the battery. It would také a sec to wale up to také call and gsm module would be on just for a while. That's how it'e behave on sleep mode.
i know what you mean about the iphone/ipod sleep
if i put my ipod to sleep the battery actually doesnt drain, not at all
it would last forever
i guess this cant be done with phones as its always looking for phone calls and texts etc
then again the iphone doesnt last long so maybe htc are using the best they can?

No. Airplane mode & locked (screen off). That's it.
airplane mode = no GSM? Well, still cool!

Airplane mode = No wireless communications.
= no wifi and no bluetooth and no gps and no GPRS and no EDGE but GSM?
NO wireless connection. 100% offline
airplane mode = isolated device, so no signal will come from or too the device.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
!?
hey, huh!!!
well... could be obvious, it turns off the sim card/GSM module. when you turn off airplane mode it asks for pin code

The point of the screenshot was to illustrate that you can use WiFi with APM enabled.

Hi guys,
What I need is a app to turn off and turn on (without PIN code) my cell phone on specific time.
I mean, schedule my phone to turn off at 2am and turn on at 8am, this way I would save battery during night.
Some of you may say, why don't you turn it yourself? A: Cuz this way I would schedule my phone to turn on before I wake up, in case someone calls it would wake me up.. Or in case I forget to turn it off!

Use airplane mode, buddy. It's don't drain your battery, and there's a lot of apps to schedule it for example: Timeriffic.
Airplane mode turns off all radio connectivity, so if someone calls you it will act, like your devices is turned off.

it is technically impossible. Phone can't turn on by itself..even android hasn't the alarm auto wake like symbian..
I havent come across any way to do this, havent researched about it that deeply though.

And yeah, symbian is able to do that, sometimes my phone died during the night but it would have enough energy to start my alarm and then die again xD
Didn't knew that... And what if I set an alarm and my phone is shuted down, it wont ring?
I guess I'll try the one kmarci told.
Thx!
won't ring!

There are also Smart Profiles by Antutu.
I' ve got a strange problem: regardless of any brightness settings, my phone dims down the brightness after 30 seconds. When I touch the screen it goes back to normal, but after 30 seconds it dims down again. It's annoying. Anyone got a solution for that ???
TIA

This is normal behavior when autobrightnes is disabled.
o.k. - but I got this behavior with auto-brightness on !

settings - display - sleep is "never go to sleep"
and still I got this annoying dim-down ...
That is also normal HTC behaviour.
The screen will stay on, but it will dim regardless of your time-out setting.

No, not that I'm aware off.
Even with Tasker, the screen will stay on, but it will dim...

You might want to try Screebl from the play store.
Firmware B111, kicking out of wifi when screen goes off. Wifi is set up "never go off", but still it goes.
I see it on "Smart Profiles",(tried "Profile Flow" also), as I made a rule based on home wifi to switch BT off, when I'm at home.
After some time, when screen goes off, it turns BT on. When I take the phone, it "see" wifi and switches BT off again. In log file of Profile Flow I can see, how the "HOME" profile goes on and off every 5-10 or 15 minutes.
So, the problem is- why WIFI does not keep on all the time. All the possible battery savers are taken off, but still no constant wireless network connection during phone sleep...
And my wifi based profiles don't work as they suppose to...
double check power save option?

I had a similar issue but when I switch Power Plan option from Smart to Normal in Power Manager, it seems it's ok now
