A friend of mine told me that iPhone has something like sleep mode where it almost turns off the phone to increase battery life. Does desire/android have this functionality too? If no, has someone tried to insert the sleep mode into the kernel? Are there any H/W limitations?
I guess the Airplane mode on the desire is similar like the one you're talking about on the iPhone. Don't know exactly, never had an iPhone.
If you click the little black button atop of your device it'll go into "sleep mode"
It uses less resources and spare the battery.. true story ;D
I have a desire. What do you mean? Was that a joke?
I think he wasnt joking.
When you lock your phone by pressing the top button, the arm cpu actually clocks down to (erm...?! somethin lower then 1ghz). This is the Sleep mode you might ment.
You can "check" this for example if you transfer a file over wlan to your phone with swiftftp (a App, that enables a FTP Server on your Phone) an look at your transfer rates. When your Phone is active the rate is very high, but when you lock it, it drops. That is due to the downclocked snapdragon.
To addition: There are some Mods/Kernels out there that clocks the cpu even lower than HTC designed it(or does Arm designed the clock settings?)
Anyway, i hope i could help und you can understand me (i am german )

Welcome to the forum,
no this is not sleep mode. On lock it goes down to 245Mhz, but it doesn't go sleep. On sleep mode it would take weeks to empty the battery. It would také a sec to wale up to také call and gsm module would be on just for a while. That's how it'e behave on sleep mode.
i know what you mean about the iphone/ipod sleep
if i put my ipod to sleep the battery actually doesnt drain, not at all
it would last forever
i guess this cant be done with phones as its always looking for phone calls and texts etc
then again the iphone doesnt last long so maybe htc are using the best they can?

No. Airplane mode & locked (screen off). That's it.
airplane mode = no GSM? Well, still cool!

Airplane mode = No wireless communications.
= no wifi and no bluetooth and no gps and no GPRS and no EDGE but GSM?
NO wireless connection. 100% offline
airplane mode = isolated device, so no signal will come from or too the device.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
!?
hey, huh!!!
well... could be obvious, it turns off the sim card/GSM module. when you turn off airplane mode it asks for pin code

The point of the screenshot was to illustrate that you can use WiFi with APM enabled.

I noticed that the alarm does not sound when the phone is switched off. This is disappointing seeing as with every phone I have I usually use it as my alarm clock.
I could leave my phone on in sleep mode but don't want to drain the batteries. *Seeing as I'm having problems with the battery life*
Is this the same with you or is there a setting I need to enable for the phone to wake and the alarm to sound?
Or, is there another alarm app that will allow the phone to switch on when off?

This is not a phone, it's a pocket pc with phone function. Every other phone drains power when it's switched off -so it's nothing more than a standby.

Nope, no alarm can do this. If it's switched off it IS really off. There is absolutely no power usage and the only way to get it back on is manually by pressing the power button.

No big deal, use the "flight mode" for the night (long press endkey --> flightmode). Every data and phone connection will be switched off and the phone is only using the power for the clock and the alarm -it's nearly the same as a switched off common phone.

Then it may be possible to have a 'Wake on Alarm' function, similar to a PC.
Anyway, I downloaded G-Alarm and it does what you say, turn the phone on flight mode automatically.
I have my Experia set to go in standby mode after a minute so the screen goes blank. But I noticed that every few minutes (around every 5-10 minutes) the phone is still in standby mode but the screen lights up for a few seconds. I think that because of this also baterry runs out sooner. Can anyone give me any suggestion hov to set or too repair this problem so that the screen woudn't go on in standby mode without any reaso.
you can do a hard reset
These kind of things happen at many phones when you have Cell Broadcasts or Area Info enabled.
It's under Start menu, Settings (control panel, whatever) Personal tab, Phone, More tab, Broadcast channels (Enabled).
I'm not using English rom so the names could be different than the ones I used, but you get the idea of where you should look, right?
i guess the thing with windows mobile when the Cell Broadcasts or Area Info enabled it always turn the phone screen on whenever the phone receive new or updated cell info
so i advice u to disable this service plus turning ur phone on 3g or Hspad Mood will solive the problem but whenever the 3g service its not avilable the phone will go to gprs mood that means the phone will receive cell info again ,so just turn Cell Broadcasts off and the problem shell be over

Update your Xperia's firmware on Sony Ericsson's website. This should fix it.
Hello, i want to have WiFi turn off when i press the power button on my One V and have the phone got o sleep but when i click the "never" option in wifi>advanced options>Keep WiFi on during sleep>never it doesn't turn off the wifi when the phone's in sleep mode. I can tell because when i press the power button and my lockscreen comes up it still shows the wifi bars. Why is this, and what mistake am i making? How can i get this to properly turn off wifi when my screen's off (sleep).
Is there a time limit as to when it'll shut off? Like does it have to be be screen-off for a certain time interval for this to shut off wifi?
Which rom are you on ??
Lol dude when u switch it back on Obvio it will turn on the wifi
The statement speaks for it self
Wifi is of only during sleep

but no way wifi instantaneously turns on that fast. that's what i'm saying. when i have it off for about 3-4 minutes then i turn the screen back on i can see the icon slowly searching then connecting to my home internet. So does that mean that it has to be off for a certain time for the wifi to shut off?
Right but it will appear that it is turning on.... not on as it was when the screen was on ...sorry for the confusion

So basically, all i'm asking is, how long does it take to turn off wifi. Like, how long under sleep mode? Cause if i turn my phone on and off in a matter of seconds then it doesn't turn it off. Which i guess is good. So i guess there is a certain time interval involved in this.
Why do you even care ?? If you said it worked in 4 min that means its happening from 1 min or higher ....but the importance that its happening under 4 mins
This has been driving me crazy and I must be doing SOMETHING wrong because I can't get it to work on my Wonder.
I select Daydream and have it set to either or when plugged in, but the Daydream scene will not start, no matter which one I select.
In fact, here's what happens. I plug my Wonder in set the Daydream to Clock (or any other), and the screen will just stay on. It will refuse to sleep until I press the power button, but it will sleep (screen off) if I turn Daydream off.
So I assume something is blocking Daydream from working? They are both running stock 4.2.2, unlocked and rooted.
I've also changed the sleep time to something different (currently set at 2 minutes) and it still doesn't do it.
Anyone know what might be causing the problem? Does anyone else have this issue?

Really, load mode and moved to him after a long waiting period (2 minutes) he went into daydream. However, I can not make it work in docked mode.
As I understand it he would play the role of screen saver when the phone would be at rest .... sorry if I'm wrong understand application functionality

Can't find another question like this one... so here goes:
Just got a Moto 360 for 149.99 USD and its great so far.
Did that force update to 5.1.1, this one worked for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/moto360/comments/3ahj1l/a_surefire_way_to_force_the_511_update/
Now I look into turning off the screen when its charging, only to run into a very strange issue...
In the developer options, which you can enable using 10 taps on the build number in about, there are two options:
1) stay awake while charging
2) burn-in protection
Burn-in protection will NOT save the check when your restart, so in essence, is useless.
However I found that using stay awake while charging DOES indeed turn off the screen, but here's the catch: you have to set it to ENABLED.
Don't believe I have ever seen a setting on android that required it to be on, to be off...
But hey, it does work, on mine at least.
Also the whole "just hit the button to make the screen go off" ONLY works in Theater Mode! And I personally dont like pushing a button to check the time.
If Theater Mode is off, it will just brighten the screen for around 2 seconds, then dim again.
Here's my question, what does that burn-in protection do anyways? Just pixel shift over time? Why can't it be enabled?
Hope this helps some people!
that setting does nothing for me
the screen stays awake regardless of ENABLED or DISABLED
funny how motorola hasn't fixed this yet
just put watch in "Theater mode" before charging
and it would switch the screen off on charger too

It started on mine, in the dock. Every few minutes everything on the display jumps in size from small to large and vice visa
The staying awake feature is backwards. Crazy
Sent by entanglement.
I restarted mine after setting to enabled, also ambient / theater mode are both off.
Hi,
as ShadowVlican wrote: just enable the theater mode to switch the screen off during charging. It is also important, the you undo any changes you did in the developer menu ("stay awake while charging" and the "burn in protection" as well).

Yeah, no. My screen turns off for 10 seconds then just becomes dim black with backlight again.
Is there no damn working solution?!
