Won't charge/won't boot!? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

So my wife got her note 2 about 2 weeks ago and just this week it has had a hard time charging. So after a reboot it went to a battery screen and boot loops to it till its plugged in. It already had about 30% left. After a little searching I found that some s3's had the same problem and just blowing into the USB port on the phone after a battery pull will fix it. It worked to boot it but won't help charge it while the phone is booted. Lots of plugging and unplugging but nothing only a restart/shutdown will let it boot. We have only used the factory charger and USB cable. Any ideas?

bought a new galaxy nexus for 599.99 on febuary and already there is problems with losing signals and biggest problem of all is that my phone wont charge the only way to charge it is to turn it off and charge and that sometimes works and sometimes doesnt i have to keep unplugging and plugging back the usb.
i read alot about this issue on google and samsung is not doing about it.
so i called samsung i dont know where thier call centre is i called from canada. and spoke to a manager to send my phone for repair and told him can you make this quicker cause he was slow and my movie at theatre was gonna start in 10 mins and already been talking to this manager for 15 mins. and he puts me on hold and comes back after 6 mins and ask for my email. and i told him my email and i wanted to make sure he got it right and got him to repeat it for me. OMG THIS GUY WAS STUPID AS HELL I SWEAR TO GOD HE GOT IT WRONG MORE THAN 12 TIMES. so i told him i have to go to movie and im not gonna repeat myself so you better get it right this time. and he got it wrong again im 100% sure he was doing it on purpose so i told him . LISTEN repeat it again and say it correctly and he said IM SORRY BUT FOR SECURITY ISSUE I HAVE TO HANGUP THE CALL. and the guy hangup on me im soo pissed at this and at samsung that i will never ever buy a samsung phone or recommend it to my customer. i went to samsung galaxy s3 training and told the canada head manager she didnt even acknowledged me thats bs.

LOL.
Well let's see.
#1 did you get your USB port wet? Because I had the charging issues you describe with the fantastic combination of a wet USB port, and a crappy, cheap USB cable.
#2 The signal issue is a pretty well documented 4.0.4 issue. You're on xda, ffs. Upgrade or downgrade your radio.
I never understood why people say "I will never buy a product from this company again!!" after having a bad experience with one of the products / representatives. It just sounds like you got a lemon and a bad representative to speak to.
Yeah well if you get uppity with customer service people they won't react well, you get a lot further by being polite. You were poetically the 27th person he spoke to that morning and he was probably busting for a leek and his lunch was probably getting cold and the last two people he spoke to were probably jerks as well and its not really his fault your phone is faulty but everyone yells at him as if he broke their phones personally.
I am in a customer service role and when people start yelling at me for things which are beyond my control, I loose all interest in helping them. Sometimes if they're really annoying I will deliberately lead them astray, put them on hold or transfer them to people who can't help them. On the other hand if people approach me in a more respectful way I'm more than happy to go the extra mile for them.
Maybe if you grew up and showed a bit more compassion you might get better results. Customer service people are human beings and have needs and emotions just the same as you do so you have no right to treat them like punching bags on which to vent your frustration.

I had damaged USB port on Galaxy S II and to avoid all that hassle i simply went to Samsung service center and asked them to repair it as out of warranty product. Two days + 30€ and i had my phone back.
Also this happened to my GNex, but this time it was enough to plug in my wifes charger (from Desire S) and it started to charge again. Since then i always use HTC charger

dude i don't restrict my Girlfriend to use my phone since she has a ****ty one.. just didn't realize that one apps that she would install would #[email protected]$ it up ... but hey **** happens and i wont blame her for that. and i also some other people that got there S3 not functional like mine.
so i will keep searching for clues on maybe a fix. or will contact MobileTech..
not the first time to root and ROM other androids.. just bad luck..
and that App also add something to do with he Bootlaoder that i found.. so ya not sure if that had to do something with it.
My past experience with MobileTechVideos has been absolutely superb! When I hardbricked my Captivate I shipped it off and within a week it was back in my hands. The owner, Josh, even offered to flash the newest version of the ROM I was on(Serendipity 6.4 I think) for free! They are professional and have great prices.
Also, what does every single person always say? READ, READ, and READ AGAIN.
Best of luck.

Here's what I would do.
1) Try to get into download or recovery mode: hold either down or up volume key, home key, and then power key and see if you get anything at all.
2) Try a jig to get into download mode (you can find one for sales through mobiletech.
3) Try launching Odin and plugging in phone to see if Odin sees the phone.
4) Worst case is mobiletech for JTAG.

Did Samsung fix it under warranty? I'm in the exact same situation.

[Q] I fracked up, hard. Bricked.

I hardbricked my S3. I messed up, I know. It was my fault that I didn't notice that the Slimbean was only for the international version. I have been looking online for a solution, but all I'm seeing is that I have to get a new phone. I cannot access Recovery or Download mode with or without the battery in while or while not plugged into the computer. Though, while the battery and SD are out, the charging/notification light will light up when plugged into the computer for about one minute, but that's it. Is there anyway to turn it into Sprint for a new one? It's been under a month. So...any advice?

did you mean to quote me? i was just commenting on him saying he didn't have a soldering gun... i'm not saying if it will work or not, but if he did want to try it, it's a fairly simple object to make, with very simple and cheap tools. i don't have to search to know that it's just a few resistors and a male micro usb plug, maybe 15 bucks for everything including the soldering iron.
if you have insurance you can go to a sprint repair store and get it replaced for free... it usually takes about 2 days for your replacement to come in..

That is what I'm planning on doing tomorrow.
UPDATE: I did get it replaced yesterday. Told me it'd take thirty minutes, went out and got lunch. When I came back, they said they have no clue what happened to it to cause it to fry like it did, so they swapped it out for a new model. I'll root tomorrow when I have more time. I'll stick to what I can find here on XDA now on. Any recommendations for a good AOKP ROM?

I know, foolish. Coming from the OG Evo, I didn't have to worry about seeing if it was American or International and which carrier it was for. I'm being more careful this time.
Call samsung say the phone died and won't come on. They will replace it as long as there is no physical damage. One year manufacture warranty is still valid use it f sprint don't waste your time. Samsung is fast at sending you a new or refurbished phone. I had several phones replaced. They send you a new phone or used phone and a box to send your old one. They don't check for rooting or nothing they just install new software on the phone and send it out to the next person. Now ups is my issue with the entire process, they Just leave it on your door step even if your not home it happened twice thank god no one stole my phone, I thought we were supposed to sign for it but I guess not.

Ok, guys. I typically know what I'm doing, but I wasn't paying full attention when flashing my phone while I was doing a mock fantasy football draft. I went into recovery and flashed a ROM that was for the i9305. Obviously a different phone, but I wasn't paying attention.
The phone does not boot. I plug it in without a battery and it shows the red LED, but that is the only response I can get from it.
I'm not sure where to go from here and that's why I'm wondering what to do from the wonderful members over here.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

This happened to me couple of weeks ago. JTAG is your only option. I used another guy who was cheaper ($25 for JTAG + $5 for shipping and $5 for me to ship the phone over to him). I mailed him the my phone on Friday and it was back in my hand the next Thursday. If your phone is not under warranty, that's your best option. Here's one of his eBay listings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unbrick-Sam...653?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item417592da4d
Just bite the bullet and use an old flip phone for one week

If your phone is still under warranty, you can walk into AT&T and play dumb. They'll give you a refurb replacement.
I played dumb when I did the exact same thing worked for me. Lol

Haha, I hope it works the same way with me! I'm heading over tomorrow morning. Did they give you a refurb in-store, or did they mail it to you? And I'm guessing you had to give them your old phone?

Go to a warranty and repair center if you want a refurb, the stores are just sales reps who will point you in that direction.

One small problem with that, there isn't one close to my location at all. So, I'll head down to my usual store and see what they say. Thanks for the input though. I happen to be the 1%...
There is also a whole thread how to restore after flashing another phones ROM.

If i could actually get into download mode that would be helpful, but my phone is dead.

Sometimes you can get into DL mode without the screen on... You will see Odin pick it up... Or you might need JTAG. There are a few videos to do it yourself on you tube.

:/ I've tried tons of ways to try and get into download mode. I read that if you are hard bricked, a jig wont work. Odin doesn't want to pick anything up.
I'm heading to ATT in about an hour when they open and hopefully something good comes out of it. I'll be sure to update you guys on what happens.
To every story there is an ending, and here is mine.
I went to the ATT store and played dumb, I tripped when walking into the store and pretended to hurt my leg.
Ok, not really. I walked in, talked to a nice lady and explained how the recent update to 4.1.2 made my phone stop working. Perfect timing, I know, haha. She tried the usual, removing battery, plugging it in and putting in a new battery. Didn't work.
She was very nice and basically said, well, we'll replace it for you for free. I was ecstatic(on the inside). She called up some higher power from the phone and talked to them for a bit. She explained the situation to them and then to me. The device was still under the 1 year warranty from Samsung and they'll replace it for me. I should be getting my new phone in the mail in a few days and just have to mail the bricked one back to them. So happy!
Thank's for the everyone and if anyone finds this story later on, this method works. It's not the most morally acceptable method, but if you look at the big picture, we should technically shouldn't be paying hundreds for a phone plan anyways.
Thanks again, cheers.

Sprint Note 4 wont charge although shows charging icon.

Hi,
My Note 4 will no longer charge although it shows the charging icon when plugged in. No fast charge either.
Tried all the usual trouble shooting tricks.
Different batteries , charges and cleaning out the port...
Am pretty sure a hard reset wont fix this... seems like hardware.
Anybody had this problem with a fix?
Self repair or something of the sort. Dont want to spend money on repairs when the note 8 is due out Aug 23rd.
Am currently externally charging the batteries... which is a pain.
Had to clean the contacts at the battery. Don't know if that's the fix for you but, it worked here. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply...
tried that... no joy.
have several batteries, no difference.
what bites even more is that i bought the phone seller refurb off ebay along with a square trade warranty. didnt realise it was listed as new on ebay, so square trade wont do anything until a year is up claiming it should be under manufacturer warranty... so have to wait till October before square trade will allow a claim.... *sheesh*

Sorry to hear that. Amazon here, battery that came with was iffy at best but the phone has been flawless. Might be the port I know amazon sells a charging back pretty cheap. Works great here.

yeah, im guessing hardware failure.
this is my second note 4, the 1st went into a bootloop...
im currently managing using an external battery charger and rotating my battery packs.
will send in for square trade warranty once the note 8 is released on sprint.
i've tried just about everything i have gleaned on the internet,,, and no joy.
heres an odd thing, my first note would occasionally get into the bootloader and it shows dm verity failed. it was bought new from sprint and i never messed with it. was stock. no rooting etc... but after a couple of minutes it would hang and start boot looping again even while in bootloader. go figure.

Seems sometimes you just end up with a bum unit. Maddening but then like you say, you're just waiting for something better.
