When i tether my one V and run some webpages from my labtop how much data does it consume? Does it consume the same amount of Megabytes of data as if i had ran the same web page on the phone's browser or does it eat up a lot of data?
It eats a lot more as.the content is more for eg the images lead on a much larger resolution in the pc and some commoners which don't work on android loss on ur layup top causing more download to occur

The tethering app that i'm using actually tells me how much my computer eats up while its on. Surprisingly my laptop can move from webpage to webpage with really good speeds despite only getting 0.6mps of data speeds. Why is it so much faster to load pages when my laptop is connected to my phone's internet than it is on the phone's stock browser?
Cause the 2g/3g speed on our phone phone is really not great but if u connect ur phone to wifi u will achieve as higher transfer rate c

also, is there any way i can use this or another method to increase my data speeds? their pretty bad.
1.yea ur provider gives u a certain limit like in 3g u get about 2 mp/s in ur phone it will use only half or less of that
yea pay more get a faster net

I would also like to know if I find anything out I'll let you know but in the mean time I think it depends on what you are viewing like facebook is an extremely large site with a lot of traffic.

Swyped from Eva running Myn's RLS4!
are you positive it is your internet. many process and apss run in the background so just because you only have internet open at the moment does not mean it is the internet for sure causing the problem.
what watchdog message is comign up when it goes off?
What browser are you using
are you using 3g or 4g
do you always have mobile data (3g or 4g depending on what you are using when the drain is happening) on?
Do yo have a process monitering app such as system panel?
I am going to assume you ahvent gone to that detail yet. I highly recommend getting the paid verion of system moniter if you are having this kind of issue as it lets you run a history of the top apps using cpu/power. it also lets you see a nice battey graph and shows you all process running wether they are active or inactive and how much cpu time they are using.
It makes diagnosing these kinds of problems much easier.
Stop using the internet. This should solve the problem.
Seriously though. Browsing the web with your EVO does all the things that suck the most battery. Graphics, 3G, 4G, Wifi.

It happens in both 3g and 4g. Watch dog pops up and says internet usage is at 71% would u like to close it? I say yes.
I have systsm panel lite...sometimes it works but alot of time it doesnt. Your most common apps just reopen up it seems like. Thank you for your help.

Ahhh this is the answer i was looking for ( fart noise ). Pay$ 40 extra a month for internet usage and to be told not to use it. Thats like buying toilet paper and never wiping your ass.
I no internet speed mainley depends on location/isp but what rom if any would help provide the fastest possible speeds for internet? Im curently on cwm 3 and viper rom
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yeah I don't think there is any way to boost the speed of your internet connection beyond it's stock configuration via a rom (as in, you can not go from downloading 1mb/sec to 5mb/sec). But, you may be able to boost the speed at which web pages are loaded by overclocking the cpu or reducing the amount of crap loaded onto the phone's disk drive.
exactly , the speed is determined by the tower your on, check wifi and see if the speeds are better
I read where some people were having problems with slow Internet speeds and it was because of some Ad routine that is slowing the Internet. Try downloading Adfree from the market and it might help you. This problem I'm talking about was discovered by reading catlogs.

So i just rooted my girlfriends Dinc, an she wants to kno if wired tethering would be free? I already put wireless tether on for her. (Our laptops wireless is on the fritz)
Sent from my GSBv1.7-ERIS using XDA App
You don't have to root to do wired tethering just use PdaNet (free version only has wired tether paid app ads bluetooth). You need PdaNet also installed on the PC for it to work. And yes the tethering is free but Verizon can still track your usage and may throttle your connection if you start to use too much data.

Yep. The anti-throttling mods some people post on here don't do squat either :/
Yeah they throttle heavy users....I personally never noticed a big decrease until I hit around 5gb from Pandora, tethering etcetera.

Root not required for free mobile hot spot. Yes if you want to use the wireless tethering app you will need root. To do without root you can change the profile settings in epst to bypass the way VZW checks for tethered usage and use the stock app by doing the following;
dalepl said:
Have not tried Wireless Tether with 2.2 since I can use the 3G Wirelecc Hotspot that comes with 2.2. All you need to do is this:
1. On your phone, bring up the dialer and dial ##778. This will load EPST.
2. Select EDIT.
3. Enter 000000 for the password.
4. Select SECURITY.
5. Select the username that has [email protected].
6. Edit the username to read [email protected] (delete "dun.").
7. Click the back button to return to the list.
8. Select M.IP DEFAULT PROFILE.
9. Repeat steps 5 and 6.
10. Click on MENU and select COMMIT.
You will not be charged for its use.

For checking email and occasional browsing they will never notice as it just shows up to Verizon as if the phone was doing it. My typical usage never exceeds 2 GB per month. But occasionaly I do stream music from the siriusxm android app and it uses a lot of data. If I'm listening to it I can easily go over 6 GB per month. At one point I was using it daily and I called Verizon at that time to upgrade my phone and the rep checked my account and told me I had extremely high data usage. So I cut back.
Just to be clear. after rooting, can the stock HTC sense Rom does the 3g hotspot become free? Or is the free tethering another thing? I'm confused.
i believe unless you make those epst changes, you would need wifi tether from the marketplace (or other sources)

Yeah i dont go over a few gigs myself, an i use my phone for everything...an ive been downloading a bunch of gb roms for my eris lately and i use pandora occasionally too.
What are people using for tethering since root isn't available yet?
Ive used the method described in the following thread. The best part about how it works is that it offers infrastructure mode, so I can tether my Galaxy Tab without any problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079340
Note: See post #6
I heard that doing the ##778 edit causes a loss of phone data while tethered to the PC. Meaning data on the phone is dead but the pc has data. Is this true? After the edit do you just use the stock 3g mobile hotspot app?
Yes it's true, I've tried it.

But do you lose data on the phone while tethering? Also do you use the stock vzw app?
The answer to both questions is yes. I actually hadn't noticed it before but on my Dinc2 the signal meter only shows 1X instead of 3G when I activate the hotspot option. I guess I don't find that all too terrible as the only time I'm tethered I'm either using my tablet or my laptop.
Once the change is made, the hotspot app functions like it would if you were subscribed to the service.
What why would you do the hack if you only get 1x when tethering, that would be crazy slow.
Oops, My mistake. It appears my earlier reply was a load of crap!
3G is still clearly visible with hotspot enabled. Just ran a speed test on my Galaxy Tab. Downloads ranged from 473-329kbps with uploads between 303-193kbps.
So just to clarify. You did the following edits.
-in edit mode you will open 'security' and 'm.ip default profile' in turn. each time you look for the only entry containing "dun", as in:
<your actual phone number>@dun.vzw3g.com
edit out the "dun." so it looks like
<your actual phone number>@vzw3g.com
And you then use the stock 3g mobile hotspot app. After you enable the hotspot can you browse using the phone also? Or does internet on the phone stop working.
I think you're right, clarification is certainly in order.
Yes I simply removed dun from both of those locations and now use the standard, VZW included, hotspot app.
The phone cannot access the internet while tethering is enabled. Certainly a sacrifice, but from what I've seen so are the apps available with a rooted device which from my understanding cannot create an infrastructure hotspot, only ad-hoc.
Yeah the phone data loss kinda is a downfall. But I have an infrastructure connection with wireless tether on incredible 1 just for your info. Some apps are lucky and give good connections. well loss of data is probably a sacrifice I will make. thanks
Seems to me that the only time this would really matter is if you're sharing your connection with friends while still using your phone for data. Is there something I'm missing? I can see it being a minor annoyance but something I'd personally never run into.

If the detection is at the app level (unauthorized), like the article suggests, the hack may still be under the radar for the time being since folks are probably using the authorized app pre-installed on their phone.
Just transferring say one music album takes like ten minutes. I have a good router, I put my phone one foot from it and it's still going at a snail's pace.
Tried using ES Files Explorer and X-plorer and the same result. Is it a problem with the phone do both those apps just have sh*tty wifi transfer speeds?

I kinda ruled that out because I can copy to from a Windows laptop WAY faster, like 4MB/s compared to less than 1MB/s or god knows what on this phone.

I have this issue too. I use SSHDroid on my phone, and connect via SSHFS from Linux. I get around 1mb/s average this way, when my computer is on Ethernet (slower if it is on wifi). I'm running CM 10.1 nightly on AT&T S3. I'll give it a try on Windows at some point, but so far I haven't found anything that helps. I tried reformatting the card with different cluster sizes too, with no noticeable change.
Airdroid is fast enough for me
