I bought this phone off ebay for my wife.
It's stuck in boot loop. I tried RUU and I tried installing cwm recovery.img without any luck. I looked at some similar posts here on xda and googled some results, but no success. I need some help. Thanks.

Your phone was rooted using Revolutionary. CWM recovery was installed by default. Do a search for Smelmus recovery, and follow the directions to get it on the phone. Smelkus is Amon Ra based, whereas CWM isn't. CWM is known for causing issues on the OG EVO, particularly due to not wiping properly. Once you get Smelkus installed you can run the superwipe in the wipe menu from recovery and also do a factory reset. Then you should be good to go.

ok - searched and found 5 different files for PM36IMG - I tried using the one for AOKP. I tried installing via fastboot - still get bootloop when booting to recovery. I also installed successfully from bootloader - but it still boot loops. Any ideas?

Just tried it - same thing boot loop. I tried it in these steps:
- RUU 2.3
- install pc36img v2.3.zip (amonra) by bootloader
All it does is keeps rebooting itself.

Ok so I might be missing something. You said you RUU'd , but you say it's still "S-Off" . Did the RUU not take ? Or are you re-rooting the device afterward ?
Sounds like the bootloop of death that has befallen a few evos over the years. Captain throwback may be of some assistance with this, he's the only person I know who successfully recovered one that I know of.

I bought this phone like this off ebay - I believe it was rooted by revolutionary before I purchased it. It's in a boot loop now. Yes I tried RUUing it a few times. Haven't had a chance to look at it for a few days...but I will over Thanksgiving, thanks all for your advice. I'll try again and report back.

Well you did root / unlock the device correct? Additionally, make sure you don't have a bad download of the file.
Must be "s-off"
Just spent the better part of a week on this one. I also could not get past "parsing". I know how frustrating it is! I wasn't having a problem with Amon RA 2.3, I just wanted the new one!
I am using Nitrous 1.5.3 and posted to that board and got some great support as always. raafeall informed me that I needed to make sure I didn't need "s-off". I did. I had rooted using htcDEV so I was watermarked and "s-on". I followed Captian_Throwback's thread to rool back and rooted through Revolutionary to get "s-off". As soon as it was done I updated to smelkus Amon Ra 4.3!

Yes, you would be able to flash ROMS, Kernels, and 'some' Recoveries with the bootloader unlocked by htc, that is why they did it. You cannot flash different Baseband, Radio, Wimax, etc. unless you are "s-off". And for some reason (I am curious why, now I get something to research!), smelkus' recovery requires that level of permissions.

Yes, if you use Captian_Throwback's thread. It un-roots to a "s-on", "locked", un-watermarked state. Then, you will roll back your radio and baseband, otherwise Revolutionary won't work.
Good luck. The whole process only took me a hour, hour and a half maybe, and I was tip toeing through the whole thing.

Hi let me start off saying ive been on forum for a while so im not a noob with research or reading.
my problem is im now one of the group who are having infinite bootloop (htc white splash screen to black blankness back to splash screen. my phone was rooted by unrevoked method, soff hboot 2.18 radio 2.15.00.12.19.
steps I've tried:
taking out battery and replacing
hboot into recovery. usually takes me out of bootloop.
redoing smelkus recovery which allowed me to get to recovery for 5 seconds then back to bootloop.
then i tried 4.67 RUU for my radio version. 1st time i ran it the only thing changed was my phone is locked however its still s-off? I've tried RUU 3x each time program says successful but still bootloop and still soff.
does anyone see a step i missed? have any suggestions? I've read on this forum and a few others about the bootloop headache. would returning to soff then unrooting work? or flashing to different radio and RUU version?
thanks in advance
i want my og back?

I know you said you tried it but I remember having similar issue a while back when I was trying to update the wimax. I had to boot to windows and run the RUU. You might have installed the htc drivers or htc sync on your computer, reinstall all of them, reboot your computer and run the RUU tool. Good luck dude

*Steps into the fray*
You said in the op that you tried flashing an ruu based on your radio; the RUU you need to flash needs to correspond to you hboot version. I think you should re-examine that step and make sure you flashed the correct ruu to begin with.

I would strongly recommend you NOT update to the 2.18 bootloader...re-rooting after that is a pain, and not worth the headache. 2.10 is nice and simple.

The phone is recognized in fastboot,
ADB does not recognize the phone.
I have been going through the forum, and websites for the last 4 hours.

Recovery does the same.
I also get the USB Not recognized error once the phone comes on. I have installed the HTC drivers, I have also installed HTC Sync and have removed it.
Am I stressing and overlooking something simple? Or, do I need to take this phone out back and lay it to rest.
Thank you in advance

I don't own this phone but how did this happen? I'm assuming your rooted and unlocked if you got s recovery and stuff. And if your recovery works.. just Mount your SD card and transfer a ROM from your PC and flash one.. make sure you flash the kernel too. That or run the ruu

I was given this phone because because it is stuck in the bootloop. Phones come with their own recovery, this isn't a custom recovery. I have tried to run ruus, the error I get is Main version is older. I have also downloaded official stock roms with no luck.
When I hit recovery, the phone reboots back to the bootloader, the recovery never comes up.

Ohh so someone messed it up and just gave it to you for free? Or for you to repair? Either way I don't follow the droid inc2 but maybe im sure its rooted if its in a boot loop so try going into fast boot and go into cmd prompt and try to install a recovery. Look up how to install a recovery through CmD Prompt on the Pc. On my phone can't explain all of it. And then just transfer over a ROM probably cm9 and follow the instructions

Thats exactly what happened, it was given to me to me in this condition, and if I can fix it I will get paid for doing so.
Yes, I am familiar with roms, and kernels, I currently use an Evo 4g with Swagged out Stock X 2.0.9.8
Ive also rooted and flash cm7 on plenty of phones, I even have cm7 on my HP Touchpad.
I can't for the life of me figure this out. It has me highly intrigued. I am known for stressing out and overlooking minor small steps, so I wanted get some input from the community.
I currently have fastboot open, I am not entirely familiar with the Incredible 2, but normal case S-on = none rooted from my experience.
it was devunlocked then relocked i believe, from the error message i believe you are not flashing the right ruu, you are trying to flash an older one, you need the newest one, it was released a few months ago if i recall correctly and it was no big update but thats the one you need, search for it and try it it should work. if you are s on you cant flash a older ruu than whats already on it

Hboot 98 is compatible with revolutionary root method. I would start there, rooting and s-off with a stock rooted Rom...

Your radio is .0312, so you won't be able to flash an RUU, they're all older. Can you recognize it in fastboot mode? Try unlocking again with HTCdev, then flashing a custom recovery and ROM.

Hboot .98 isn't compatible with revolutionary, only .97 is, but that doesn't make a difference anyways because you can't run revolutionary if you can't boot the phone.

Are there any roms that you recommend that run smooth on the INC2?

I would proceed with s-off because it's so much better than htcdev unlock.

Tried to root and flash a new rom. I believe the root worked however phone keeps rebooting into clockworkMod Recovery. Prior to rooting it i tried to downgrade my operating system but that didn't work. unlocked the htc bootloader and i was even able to flash clockworkMod Reocvery v6.0.1.1 touch on the phone. Still everytime that i install the rom which is cm7.1.0.1 it always reboots into CMR v5.0.2.0. I may have flashed recovery reboot onto the phone which may or may not explain what happened. i don't know. I just know that my phone is messed up and I want to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. I can bring up HBOOT and CMR 6 in addition to v5 but thats all i can bring up. Please HELP
You're just S on still. To get S off there are a couple forums around here.
