[q] need help - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I bought the kids A100's last year for Christmas. I ended up un locking the bootloader because the ICS update was WAY too slow for my liking. Two weeks ago my sons decides that the unlock pattern is not going to work. You can get the screen to respond in a couple of spots and then go from there but the lines are jittery. I figure that it might need to have a hardware reset. Do that and get a screen with the bootloader info instead of erasing cache..
Find the sd card I had all the info on and tried to do a master rest. NO go. Brings me back to ICS and his lock pattern. I cannot remember how I unlocked the bootloader, did not add it to my favorites or anything else. Now I am stuck. If I am looking at this right the bootloader is unlocked and needs to be locked before I can do a recovery? Is that correct and how do I get that done and do a factory hardware reset?
Worried that if I call ACER with this I will void his warranty.

Power off, then hold power + furthest from the lock switch, press and hold power then toggle the lock switch a few times when the screen turns on to reset. It didn't reset if there is still a lock screen there.
Edit: forgot to mention, holding volume - while powering on will boot into recovery which if its twrp or cwm you can factory reset there, install a new ROM etc.

You definetly need to find out what you have done. As in if the bootloader is definetly unlocked and if you have a custom recovery. Just because it is not neccesary to do anything (ie: root, unlock or recovery) if you just wanted to flash a leaked ICS or the official.
Like Pio said, if you have a custom recovery, boot to it and factory reset/wipe data from there, or flash another rom/reflash. I'm not sure how the tab will react if you do a stock factory reset with the button sequence when you are rooted, unlocked bootloader, and custom recovery.
If the screen only responds in a few places, and is gittery in others, it could be a problem with the digitizer. Digitzer problems are reletively common on the A100. It would covered under warranty if you still have one. If it turns out nothing fixes it, I would restock it though with this concern. They may ***** if they can see it was flashed, if it was bricked it would be a different story.

I used a post on here to go from HC to ICS. Basically It was rolling the HC back first to get the update to push from Acer. I tried to find the post but am having a hard time finding it, and my dumb ass didn't subscribe to it.
This was about in April of this year.
Now when I try to do a hard reset (power + vol down + switch lock) it goes to a black screen with USB bootloader info in the top right corner (near the vol switch). I don't have it with me so I cant tell you right now exactly what it says.
I would have posted sooner, but didn't get emails that there were responses.
Thanks for everyone trying to help. I will try to get back on this this afternoon.

I take it you did the process of going back to HC already and now you can't boot? If its saying its boot loader info in the right corner then its certainly not an ICS boot loader, thats in the upper left corner. It also says ICS in it. Let us know what its actually saying when you boot and we can go from there.

I will. I also turned on the email instant notification that I know that there are responses. Can't believe that I didn't do that before.

OK top left of the screen where the volume button reads:
Bootloader v0.03.13-ics: Starting Fastboot USB download protocol
This time I was able to do the erase user data. Got to the Welcome screen with the language and Country. Cant get the screen to respond.I am guessing at this point that the screen is shot and needs to be replaced (under warranty) however I need to make sure that this is set to Factory specs so that I don't have to worry about voiding the warranty.

It sounds stock to me. From what you have said, I think all you did was revert back to a HC version to get the ICS update ( which some did bck when ics came out if their version wasnt getting the update). If you did this a few months ago, you are just running a stock ICS version.

If that is the case is something missing from the ROM that I cannot get it to reconfigure everything automatically? I thought that it should go directly to the recovery information and reflash the entire tablet (may have the terminology screwed up).

If your talking about Google's sync. If you have it turned on and sync'ed prior to a factory reset, and turned on after. It will sync some stuff, it may restore your desktop wallpaper, contacts, WiFi info and some apps. But it will not restore it perfectly. Either way if your screen is still messed up, I think your OK to warranty it. IMO. Verified if your bootloader is locked, and under settings > about tablet, you are running ICS version 4.0.3 with a stock Acer build number.

I cant get there though. The screen will not respobd to input. I was going to try a bt mouse and keyboard but not having screen inputs puts a damper on that.
And about reconfiguring I was refering to the os and stock software not yhe stuff from play.

Ah I think you mean a factory reset. It doesn't flash anything, it erases /cache and /data (not /data/media but that's another story) and let's the system purge any settings apps or data causing issues.
The system itself is left untouched, if its rooted it stays rooted, if something is corrupted or damaged or missing, it stays that way through a reset.
To replace the system itself you'll need to attempt to flash a stock ROM zip named update.zip on the root of your external SD card and powering on holding the volume - key closest to the lock switch.

ATT TILT 2 owned since released stuck in Boot Screen

I have a Stock TILT 2 (TP 2) never flashed running basic programs Mobile Shell never had any issues with it, haven't installed new software in a few weeks , but I soft resetted it this morning and it keeps getting stuck in the boot screen. when first turned on it will run through boot screen then load screen for a millisecond then back to boot screen and never advances again , I've tried battery out sim card out Sd card out everything, even tried hard reset , but wont allow me to hard reset with front buttons and power, is there another way to hard reset , is it possible my phone just bricked for no reason ? thanks for any help ?
have you tried to do a hard reset via the pc? the original rom is on the htc website so you can try useing the exe file there. there is also an updated rom you can try to flash there. hope that helps
You might try sending it to the bootloader screen and reflashing. I don't know if it will work, but I thought it might be worth the effort.
I did notice that HTC removed the original shipped ROM for the Tilt2. I'm sure it is floating around here somewhere. If not, I have it and can send it to you when I get home.
Thanks I have original rom and just released wont work.
dod you see anythign on teh screen? if you do, then hard reset may fix it.
Power off your phone (or take teh battery out). Then press and hold teh call and hang up button while press teh power button. it will enter the hard reset mode. (remember hard reset will erase all the info on the phone and rever tot the stock setting).

wow, thank god i dl'd it when i dl'd the updated rom... and they still have the image of the old rom right beside it... lol
as for op, you can try to enter the bootloader with the following steps
Remove the back cover from the phone.
Hold the Volume Down button.
Use the stylus to press the reset hole.
Or if the device was powered off, press the power button whilst holding down the Volume Down button.
and try to flash from there
hope that helps again

[Q] Stuck in a boot loop with HTC diagnostic area (dead volume down rocker)

Hey guys
I'm running MrGarak's fantastic MIUI rom however I've found that the kernel is booting my phone into that white HTC diagnostic screen by default. Unfortunately my volume down button is dead and so I can't navigate the menu; the only way I can boot my phone at the moment is to boot it connected via USB as that makes it boot to Recovery and I can reboot from there.
Any ideas? I think this and another rom I tried both used LordMUE's kernel, could that be the reason the boot preferences don't default to just booting the OS?
Any help and/or pointers would be greatly appreciated
So you can access bootloader and recovery!
So just flash another kernel. What's your problem?
Put a zip on your SD (with a SD reader or ADB pull), then go in recovery, navigate with the 4 keys under the screen (or vol+ and power)... and flash.
What is strange for me is that it seems to happen sudenly... so how do ou know it's the kernel. Anyway...
I have clockwork recovery, and can navigate it using the soft keys (home menu etc). You should also he able to use the vol up key to get to the bottom of the list, (depending on the recovery you're using I suppose)

Unfortunately it boots into the white HTC area (dunno what it's called). The one where you can see if your phone is S-OFF or not.
Also, I'm not sure what is to blame... but I've only just recently noticed that my phone cold boots this way so I assumed it was a recent rom that I applied. Will test this theory later.
Sounds to me like your volume down button is stuck in.
Definitely not a ROM issue, as it has nothing to do with the bootloader.

Hey, i had this issue like a month ago. You can check my previous threads. It's hardware I'm 100% sure. Basically if you're in warranty you need to flash the stock rom with S-On so you can get a new phone. You can get it to boot but it's really a pain. You have to play with the volume up when first turning on your phone. It took me about an hour. Then when it boots you'll be in a "Safe Mode" (no clue whats limited all seemed fine to me). Then do your backup if you wish.
Also note: Flashing the S-On rom is a PAIN, took me about 2-3 hours of rebooting, holding vol up, tapping vol up, to get it to boot right, but with patients you'll get it to go.
Good luck to ya.

Ah, I'm definitely beyond warranty. The thought of vol+down being stuck down makes a lot of sense!
I'll just take it to one of the dodgy Asian repair shops, if it's a hardware issue I'm sure they'll know what to do.
Cheers for your help everyone!

Up for any suggestions/ help??

Uhm, long story short My Evo crapped out on me with the endless booting. Now before I get trolled. Yes, I have research this issue for several days now yielding little to no results. I went from only seeing a black screen to the constant reboot after the "drag to unlock screen". The phone has a mind of its own only working when ever it wants to. But after a reboot or a battery pull the cycle begins again until it decides that it wants to run again. So the cards are on the table, I'm up for any suggestions, tips and so what you want to throw at me.
What I've done:
flashing the RUU as a .exe as well as .zip file
OTA Update (gave me the black screen)
Thanks, Don
boot into recovery and wipe all the data then install the rom again?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I was NOT rooted. But, I tried that through the stock recovery (holding volume down+ power through the recovery screen) ANd nothing. Same results. This phone will not defeat me!!
I don't know if this would help. I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302172
You could download the PC36IMG zip and use the bootloader to restore the phone.
If you are not on Sprint, you could do a search for a stock unrooted ROM for your carrier.
Ok if your not a rooted user, which as you say your not, hold your volume button down and power button (after you remove your battery and put it back in), then let go when your screen turns on. You should be at a recovery, find factory reset. All this will do is put your phone back to factory defaults. All your contacts are automatically on your gmail, and will sync to your phone as soon as you sign in with it after your factory reset

Tried this too. I ended up rooting it yesterday using the revolutionary method, hoping that flashing a custom rom could possibly fix the corrupted file or w.e could be causing this, but nothing. This is ridiculous, is it possible that it could be a hardware defect?? If I ever get it booted again, ill post the hardware specs.
Thanks once again,Don.
Update:
currently I managed to get Myn's twopointtwo ROM functioning properly for the time being at least.
Software:
android 2.2
baseband 2.15.00.05.02
kernel 2.6.32.17
hardware 003

no sound

i flashed Acer_AV041_A100_1.014.00_WW_GEN1 on my tab and now i dont have sound. i came from some custom rom when they returned my tab from a factory service.

I'll do it....did you fully wipe first? Also some more information would be nice. Like..unlocked bootloader, custom recovery, etc. What you're running directly affect the steps taken to do anything.
i sent my tablet off to acer to get serviced because it would not boot up. when i got it back it had honeycomb. i got the ota upgrade to ics but it had "1.0014_cus" on the end of the ics version. im all stock, stock locked bootloader. i didnt want to go through all the rooting because this is my wife's tablet. i knew that it was a new update and the stock rom i had did not update. i just download the 1.0014_gen1 and renamed it update.zip and did the stock recovery update. thanks for replaying.

Ok, have you done a reset on it yet?
Power off tablet
Hold volume UP (furthest from lock switch)
Press and hold Power
Once it gets to the acer screen let go of power and toggle the lock switch a few times while holding Volume UP
should do a reset
reboot and report back.
Theres videos on youtube if you need a visual aid.

Thanks it worked. I did notice some sluggishness when doing somethings. but the sound works. i also noticed that when you are runing a app sometimes it jumps back to the home screen when just holding it. but thanks for the help.

The jumping to home happens to my wife almost constantly, but never to me. I think it's part of the hyper sensitive issue these have, combined with how it's being held at the time. I guess the way I hold it doesn't trigger it, but my wife does somewhow.
The sluggishness thing happens on occasion anyways, I've seen it alot on Acer and Acer based ROMs, but I don't seem to run into it on CM9 or Jellytime. Occasional reboots will also help with that.

I747 Screen Freeze with 2nd Samsung Logo - AT&T - Any Solutions?

My phone is hanging on the 2nd screen that just says Samsung.
I bought this phone as *locked* and it had a custom ROM on it. <----- didn't know that part of the deal.
I needed to unlock it.
Purchased a unlock code, didn't work.
Seller pointed me to a website to flash the OEM ROM, but it wasn't OEM. It was a rooted version.
Is it bricked? What are my options?
Please point me to a thread, if this has been discussed before.
Need more details? Just ask, cause it's money down the toilet at the moment.
Thanks.
What bootloader and modem are on the phone?
What Rom is on the phone?
It is not bricked at this point, it should be recoverable with a bit or work. Was it running when you purchased it? If you have spent a lot of time customizing it, I would suggest going into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik-cache. This will be an option on custom recoveries. If your device has a custom ROM it should have a custom recovery. To get into the recovery, turn the phone off. Then press and hold the Volume Up, and Home buttons. While holding them, press and hold the Power button. Once you see the small text at the top of the screen, release the Power button. At the next image you can release the other buttons. What you do next depends on the recovery. It will be Wipe if you have TWRP, if you have a sub-menu you could select only wipe/clear cache and dalvik-cache.
If for some reason you have the stock recovery, your only option will be to do factory reset. This will clear a bit more, but should also get you up and running.
Hello, I think to me its look like you get stuck in boot process. Is it ATT phone?
If it is... First you will need to download original ATT ROM. Then using ODIN you will have to install it. When you use ODIN, you will have to use appropriate option. That is "SECRET". Remember that))
99% of boot hang ups such as yours can be solved by factory resetting. If it's a stock recovery it will wipe ALL user data, including internal SD, but should get you running like dawgdoc mentioned.
