Using Adw launcher, when you push the menu button, where is the notification tab? There is an edit tab now. I downloaded the one from the market, but I could've swore the notification tab was there before. Is it maybe a newer version, or am I just missing something?

I believe it is gone. My ADW no longer has it.
Hmmm, I guess ill try to find an older version? I know you can swipe down on the top of the screen, but its easier to just push the tab. Thanks for confirming.

I would do a Google search to see if there are any old articles with a download link.

There are several other functions you could do like set the home button to go to home page and if on home page drop down notification screen or to just drop down notification screen. You can also use the swype up or down function to access the notificaion screen. I have my home button set to drop it down but nine out of ten times i just drag the notification down and because i gott get my finger up there anyway lol I know its a stretch.
i personally cannot find the option to add more home screens in ADW launcher version 1.1.3 . Don't know why it's gone. The option used to be there. Does anyone else know why i can't change it from 5 screens to whatever i want any more?
Hit menu, then the edit button, then click on one of the green plus signs. That's what I did, and I have 7 screens now.

thanks, just got confused because i remember the option being elsewhere, but not i see the light.
There's no way to disable this is there? I can't stand having icons in the notification bar and it's quite annoying to have one every time I need to type.
I already tried freezing the android keyboard in TB but couldn't find the Japanese IME keyboard to freeze. Don't think it would have worked anyway cuz even with the android keyboard frozen it still showed up in the choices...

I'm not sure you should/could get rid of it. Isn't it the only way to change keyboards "on the fly"(apart from menu)?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Yeah as far as I know.. I just wish they had made it the way it normally is.. Which is long press..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Could you not leave it to system default for no keyboard symbol and then just hold down the mic icon on the keyboard to change it in the fly?
Edit: Ha, AdrianE46 beat me to it

I guess you could "skin" the keyboard icon in framework-res.apk (or wherever that icon is) into a plain black or transparent icon so you can't see it lol.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
You can disable it completely. There is a boolean value in framework-res called show_ongoing_ime_switcher. Some people like it apparently so I've made it toggle-able

I don't have the settings key on my Nexus. When I was using an ICS beta on my Desire it was there, but I didn't even realise till now that my Nexus doesn't have it.
I just mucked around with a few settings and found what brings it up, and therefore what takes it away. In the Android keyboard settings menu, the very top option 'Input languages', if 'Use system language' is ticked, then the keyboard icon won't show up. As soon as you untick that and select more than one language at a time, the icon will be there.
That's what brought it up for me, I don't know if there's another option that can make the icon appear, but hopefully that helps someone?

there is still a hold to switch keyboards wihtout pulling down teh notification bar
hold onto the "space bar" on the stock 4.0 android keyboard and the keyboard switcher will pop up
I discovered that by accident just now
Yea its annoying even on honeycomb. I don't need an icon every time I use a 3rd party keyboard.

Apps with an status bar icon will get high priority. So keyboard icon to make sure the kb got the response it needs?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Oh... must be talking about third party keyboards... stock doesn't do that.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Stock would do it if you had more than one keyboard enabled..
The idea of blacking out the icon is a great idea.. I just have no idea how to do it lol...

To get the keyboard icon off, you have to delete the keyboards that you aren't using. When you delete these keyboards the keyboard icon should go away. You have to have a file manager like root explorer. Go to /system/app folder and delete openwnn.apk for the Japanese keyboard and Pinyin.apk for the Chinese keyboard. After you do that, the keyboard icon should go away, it did for me.
Never noticed the keyboard icon until I chanced on this thread. At times this forum can seem a little like the hypochondriac flicking through the medical dictionary to see what's wrong with them. But then again if you are I'll..
I think the reasoning behind it is they want it more user friendly for folks that arent hardcore like you'd find on here. Basically, a long press is a "hidden" function compared to having it show up on the top for switching inputs. I kind of like it that way anyway, besides, it only shows up when you are typing anyway so It really doesnt bother me much.
Annoys me too. For the first few days I kept checking it assuming it was an action item, then finally figured out it was just there in case I needed it. If I could disable this notification, I would.
The problem with changing the bool to hide the ime switcher is that third party keyboards no longer switch. Only the stock keyboard seems to be enabled.
I am using the stock keyboard and am going mad at the fact that I don't have the commer sign available to me on the keypad unless I hit the symbol button or keep my finger on full stop This is crazy.i would of thought if I change the settings to double tap space bar the full stop would then be a commer sign.
Can anyone help. Am I missing something really simple here
Update: Stock keyboard has a custom button.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
No, you aren't missing anything, that's how weird the stock keyboard is. Use Swype man.
That's how the stock keyboard functions. You long press on the period button on the right to get the symbols. Pressing space bar twice will get you a period (if you turned it on in settings)
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, a dedicated comma key would be great.
I prefer the way that the period button functions on the Swiftkey keyboard. You long press and more punctuation options come up, once you select the one you want, it disappears and you can keep typing. It's unobtrusive and doesn't interrupt your flow.
I like using the Samsung keyboard though because I can switch between typing and swiping without changing any settings.
I find common words quicker to swipe, but uncommon words quicker to tap out, in terms of not having the prediction engine insert the wrong word.
But my stock keyboard has a customizable key, which has the ability to be made into a comma button?

Ah! I didn't even notice that. I had just been using it to switch voice input on and off
But I use the comma a lot more :good:
Thanks.

Good tips.. I was having the same frustration. Too bad there isn't 2 custom buttons as the question mark is used quite often too.

somtimes my phone switches to one handed and im not sure how im doing it, but it does. I wanted to know if there was a way to put it back to dual hand without having to go into settings.
I would also be interested in this. I would like to be able to easily toggle from full to one handed keyboard without having to go in to the settings, if possible.

thanks, that will have to do for now, but i've accidentally switched to one handed mode a few times while handeling my phone with the screen on...there's gotta be some sort of gesture, i just dont know what it is. I never set one anyways.
You can pinch to zoom (make it one handed) and spread (opposite of pinch) to make it go back to full keyboard. I hope this helps.

Same here. Stock Unrooted after 4.1.2 OTA. No access to Google Now Menu. Flashes briefly then disappears. Tried to clear cache but won't clear. Tried to uninstall updates in application manger but hangs on uninstalling screen.
Click on the bar at the top to bring up your keyboard and now the menu will stay open.

Menu won't stay open whether keyboard present or not. Using Swiftkey.
Finally got the Google Search update to uninstall and the menu opens normally when not updated. Hmmm.

I have the same issue. Re-updated and menu flashes and disappears.
Add me to this list also. It's a bug in the new search update. It really sucks. Thankfully I don't need to use the menu/setting that much.
If I do I can get into it via settings.

Quick update. Still happening.
Workaround (based on previous posts and trials)
Open Google Now.
Type a space (or any placeholder text in the search bar.
Close the keyboard and retry the menu key. The menu should now pop up and float there.
The search bar seems to have to have something in it for menu to not instantly close again. I've put as little as just that space and it works.
Wonder how Google missed that?

I would hypothesize that this is a Samsung Twiz ROM issue, rather than a Google oops...Trying it on my PACMan 20.1 install I fail to get the bug.
Anyone in this thread so far not using a Sammy TWiz ROM?
Uninstall and re-install Google Search. Clear Google Talk data in App management. Reboot.
It'll work after that.
